Gosh, MLive is still around and a few people are actually reading what remains? Who knew?

08/26/2017 - 8:00am Ann Arbor Wedding

We did, but arranged for the ceremony to be held in Ann Arbor a few hours after the game ended. Of course, that was back when all games kicked off at 1:00 p.m. and you could actually make plans months in advance.

10/12/2016 - 8:36am Doc Losh would be thrilled

Doc Losh would be thrilled.  Hint: Google Dr. Hazel Losh, kids.

09/26/2016 - 6:27pm You're not old!

Speaking for myself, LSA '68, season ticket holder since my freshman year in 1964.  I'm the guy that stands at the last home game of the season when Carl asks if there are any 50+ year ticket holders in the House.  And yes, I stand for a good portion of the rest of the games as well.

Still miss Whiskey and Brandy at halftime.  Google it, kids.

12/09/2015 - 1:23pm Bahamas Bowl 2015

Western Michigan will probably lose at least $500,000 to go to the Bahamas Bowl on December 24.  About 70% of the $25M athletic budget at WMU is already subsidized from the general fund.  Very few of their fans will make the expensive trek, even if they have passports.

Lots of heads are being scratched in Kalamazoo, particularly within other departments at the university who are being told to tighten their belts as tuition, fees and room and board costs continue to rise.

11/08/2015 - 9:56am Tributes are great--but

These tributes are richly deserved and much appreciated but let's remember that veterans need and deserve much more of substance than flyovers, songs, words and standing ovations.

Rates of unemployment, poverty, homelessness, hunger, mental illness, physical disability, divorce, suicide, etc, are far too high among those who have served our country so nobly and unselfishly. Access to help, particularly medical care through the VA system, is inadequate.

Lobby your elected representatives, donate to charities serving vets, get involved yourself.

As John F. Kennedy said so aptly, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

10/27/2015 - 10:26am Right in front of us in Section 4

Lawrence Reid intentionally fumbled the ball out of bounds to stop the clock and set up the winning play.  That's what infuriated Corso since it was perfectly legal at the time.

10/26/2015 - 2:28pm Hello Simeon Smith!

MLive reports (I know, I know) that Kalamazoo Loy Norrix wide receiver 6'6" Simeon Smith has accepted a preferred walk on offer from Michigan.

He carries a 4.4 GPA and is taking AP Physics and AP Calculus in preparation for engineering studies.

10/26/2015 - 10:38am Your Favorite Moment?

At last, someone on this board older than this old alum!

10/18/2015 - 12:07pm I said "most effective"

No question Mesko had the stronger leg, but any team, college or pro, would rather have the ball inside the 10 than watch it soar through the end zone and come out to the 20.

10/18/2015 - 8:35am I've been watching football

I've been watching football at the Big House since my freshman year in1964 and Blake is by far and away the most effective punter we have ever had in terms of game strategy. The only unfortunate thing is that we will only be able to appreciate his unique talents for only one year. Hold your head up, young man, we're proud to claim you a a Wolverine.

08/03/2015 - 12:15pm October 30, 1971

We were living on the east side of Detroit in 1971 when we scheduled our wedding for Saturday, October 30--Homecoming against Indiana.

No problem.  We reserved the beautiful chapel of Concordia (then) College on Geddes Road for a 7:00 p.m. ceremony.  Kickoffs then were all at 1:00 so we had more than enough time to change clothes and make it to the church for our own personal kickoff.  Spent the night at the Holiday Inn in Windsor on the river with a balcony view of the Detroit skyline.

Oh yes, Bo and the boys thoroughly thrashed the Hoosiers 61-7 (that lone tochdown being the only disaapointment of the day) and we will celebrate our 44th anniversary this year.

07/16/2015 - 9:41pm Whiskey

That would have been first Whiskey in 1968 and then a couple of years later joined by her daughter Brandy (not to be confused with a certain former lineman).

07/16/2015 - 9:19pm Annie Green Springs

Annie Green Springs was popular also.

04/24/2015 - 4:10pm It's Meaningless

Since most of our home games kickoff off at 3:30 and the lights are usually turned on at some point nearly every game could be called UTL.

01/24/2015 - 10:42am Free Sam Webb?

Didn't know he had been captured.

11/28/2014 - 10:09am Emulsification

Big word, I know, but I did graduate from THE University of Michigan.

At 190-195 the fat will emulsify and permeate the meat.  Result: very moist and tender.  Same process if you smoke a brisket.  The grill temperature is low enough to prevent the meat from being overdone.

11/13/2014 - 10:04am Saw them all

Anyone else present in the Big House for all 10?  My favorite has to be the AC touchdown in 1979 because it happened right in front of us in section 4.

11/11/2014 - 7:10am Section 4

The scouts were sitting on the steps in Section 4.  Seemed to be having a great time.

10/29/2014 - 11:35am To Paraphrase Rumsfeld

Is that the same as knowing there are unknowns?

08/07/2014 - 1:36pm Easy

The rich get richer and the hell wth the rest of you.

07/16/2014 - 10:14am Turn 2 Foundation

I was disappointed that no one mentioned Derek's Turn 2 Foundation and all the great work it does with kids.  Far too few superstars give back to their communities like Jeter has.  He will retire but the foundation he created will continue to make this world a little better place to live.

07/04/2014 - 7:43am George Washington Quote

“As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality”

— George Washington

06/20/2014 - 7:57am Internationall Pride

Sporting the block M in my travels all over the world and being greeted with "Go Blue!" everywhere I go.

06/04/2014 - 11:36am 1969 OSU

It's the one that has made me renew my season tickets ever since.

04/08/2014 - 11:41am Cap of 50!

Individuals could purchase up to 50 tickets and the promo code was apparently widely available and would work for anyone.  It's already a near sellout.

03/17/2014 - 12:47pm I take exception

This "older alum" would enjoy a few Two Hearted's rather than wine with my hot dogs at the game and as for enthusiasm we're in the stadium for the warmups and always stay until the end--win or lose.  How many students can make that claim?

01/18/2014 - 7:40am Raoul Wallenberg

Raoul Wallenberg without question.

01/17/2014 - 12:50pm Even Here

Anyone remember Doc Losh?  Grading scale:  A for athlete, B for boy and C for coed.

01/16/2014 - 3:27pm You must be old!  I've had

You must be old!  I've had season football tickets since my freshman year in 1964 and  have only missed a handfull of games in that span.

01/16/2014 - 2:51pm Yost

1.  Attending a hockey game at Yost and remembering watching Cazzie and company play basketball under that same roof.

2.  Attending a hockey game at Yost and joining in the chants.

12/21/2013 - 10:19am Agree

If they don't pour Two-Hearted find another restauant.

12/19/2013 - 10:32am Much Overdue

We've come a long way since the Michigan Marching Band first admitted women in 1972!  It was about that same time that we had our first women cheerleaders as well.

11/28/2013 - 7:57am Deja Vu?

I'm feeling exactly like I did before attending the 1969 game.

11/27/2013 - 11:10am Perspective, Please

As a season ticket holder since my freshman year in 1964 it seems to me that too many people are taking the whole sports culture far too seriously.

As we go around the table on Thanksgiving has anyone ever heard another say "I'm thankful that Michigan won __  games this year and is probably going to the ____ Bowl?"  I didn't think so.

In 1969 after that huge win over Ohio Bo suffered a heart attack on the eve of the Rose Bowl.  No true Michigan fan really cared whether we won or lost that game against USC--our thoughts and prayers were with Coach and his family.

Let's focus on those things that are truly important this week.  You'd be surprised how much that lowers your stress level.

11/26/2013 - 12:51pm 1973

1973 says it all.  I had to watch them tear down the banner.

11/25/2013 - 3:48pm Exponentially

Since 1964?  You bet.

11/11/2013 - 4:33pm Will Probably Renew

My audiologist has three kids in college and hopes I renew my season tickets.

11/04/2013 - 11:45am Those were the days

1:00 kickoffs, TV time outs only at a couple of games a year--and an offensive line made up mostly of 5th year seniors.

10/15/2013 - 7:00am Season Ticket Holder Since 1964

The '69 game against Ohio remains among my top 5 victories and I'll be there again for IU on Saturday.  Age might not bring wisdom but it does offer perspective.  I've learned to acccept the good with the bad and not fret too much about those things which I can't control--like who's coaching the team and the play calling.  Enjoy it for what it is and try not to internalize sports.

Life is simpler that way.

09/11/2013 - 2:06pm It was a compliment

They should be honored that we consider them members in good standing of the Irish Society of Poultry Fanciers.  They have a noble Mission Statement:

"The object of the Irish Society of Poultry Fanciers is to encourage and promote the preservation, improvement and protection of all breeds of poultry and waterfowl in keeping with breed standards, through advice and education in the use of good genuine poultry practices and disease control."

09/06/2013 - 3:01pm Drum Cadence

It's an amplified live drum cadence right up until the snap and I found it very annoying after a while.  They even did it when we had the ball.  I'm surprised it's allowed after a team breaks the huddle.  "Adds excitement" I guess.  If it didn't rattle CMU it sure isn't going to affect ND.

I miss the old days when the crowd noise forced Ohio to take repeated time outs!

09/01/2013 - 12:49pm Actually, No

Alumni not only paid full price (in addition to their "donation") but were there to watch the students arrive and wonder why so many of them were leaving early.

09/01/2013 - 8:53am Ouch!

Apologies if this has already been noted, but I just read that CMU's big tailback (and best offensive player) broke his ankle on the 3rd down play after Gardner's early interception at the 6 and their starting QB broke his collarbone shortly thereafter in the 1st Q.

Big price to pay for a big paycheck.

08/22/2013 - 4:21pm Just call me old

Been a football season ticket holder since my freshman year in 1964.  Do the math.

07/24/2013 - 11:27am Finally!

A post on this board about something older than me!

07/23/2013 - 4:26pm One Small Correction

As one who watched all of his home games from Section 4 (think Indiana 1979--catch was right in front of us) I can tell you that the crowd's "anticipative stirring" didn't just begin when AC touched the ball--it began as soon as he lined up wide on offense or waited for the punt or kickoff to fall into his waiting arms.  You just knew every time that you were probably going to see something special.

07/22/2013 - 9:31am Never Leave Early

I made the mistake of leaving that game at halftime because the weather was miserable.  Johnson went wild in the second half and I missed seeing it live although the game was televised and I watched it at a friend's apartment.  With rare exceptions, I have always stayed until the final gun since then--win or lose.

Sadly, Johnson has Alzheimer's and last I knew was living in a care facility in New Jersey.  Truly one of Michigan's leaders and best.
