A note was left that said "we have you you lost and know what you did". We were terrified. Ended up just being able to get the phone from lost in found the next day. No questions asked. Everyone was freaked out that night that we would get in trouble though

Despite how poorly we used Nico I’d still have him over Ronnie imo. Maybe Darboh too

Nico made many big plays and in big games. He looked like he belonged in our outmatched games vs OSU for example

comical how bad the WR stats are in general. Thankful Gattis has that on the up and up. We spread it around now but I think if we have a legit nfl 1st rounder they’d put up big numbers under this new offense. We scheme pretty good talent open as is

With NFL WR talent look out. Maybe Anthony can be that

NIL is going to save CFB imo

dilute the super teams (Bama, UGA, OSU). there will be 5stars who take a $300-500k endorsement and stay home in FL, TX, CA vs going to them

Really just need FSU and Miami to get with the program. Best team in FL can’t be UCF if we want to stop super teams

Both teams brought tons of…

QBs ability to handle and make plays late was great. Bryce Young made big throws but his WRs dropped them imo

UGA schemed nice stuff. Great coaching and execution by UGA QB late

Different skill set for sure…

Different skill set for sure

But better UM career:

Peppers or Dax?

Both were great and I think will stick around in the league. Heck I wish we had both at the same time! That’s what we need to hang in the CFP

think I would give the slight edge to Peppers but it probably depends on what D scheme you run

We definitely better ball

We definitely better ball

handling from the wing players and 3py shooting. Watching the final four there were several good Defenses but they all had at least a couple capable 3pt shooters on the court. Almost at one time.

Dont think you can grind out elite 8 and final 4 type wins consistently. Need shooters so you can go on mini runs at least or keep up frankly when the other team eventually knocks down a couple in a row

DDJ needs more minutes at…

DDJ needs more minutes at the expense of Simpson (certainly Brooks). Unless Poole or Iggy turn into facilitators next year we need someone with an outside shot that can create offense.

there is no room to operate in the paint with D sagging off Simpson so much.

DDJ has the skill set if Coach will play him.

Craft >Burke is not a given and I'm sure Belien would not trade

I think this comparison is pretty even (and thats Frosh Burke vs Soph Craft). While Craft does bring A LOT with his on-the-ball defense, Burke's ability on the offensive end and his ability to get others involved whether is be by asts or sucking in defenders is superior to Craft. Burke is also not a bad defender either, its certainly not a weakness in his game

I'd consider it a wash right now even with Craft having the benefit of an extra year. Burke is also not a bad defender either, its certainly not a weakness in his game

i saw this too

I think its interesting that they basically never tackle in spring ball. I think it helps that they play in the Big12 which is basically flag football / 7 on 7 league. I mean Neb was known as one of the toughest teams with great D and they bolted for the Big Ten. After them nobody really hangs their hat on D in that conference. I'm sure someone will through some Big12 D stats at me which is fine, but that conferences Defenses don't pass the eyeball test thats for sure.

From what the coaches have done this year and the tackling job that our D has done (which leads to forced fumbles) I say i like Hoke and Mattison's preference for hard hitting practices. It can lead to injuries but thats why we need to recruit at a UM level (top 5 top 10 nationally).

Mizzou will be OK IMO

Looking at their conf schedule I think they go 4-4. I'm assuming they play nobody OOC and will go 3-1 which would get them at 7-5. I think a lot of the middle pack of the SEC will have similar records. ~500 in SEC followed by 3-1 or 4-0 OOC(depending on the Cupcakes).

3 straight posts

trying really hard to find stuff to complain about huh? Dig a little deeper I suppose. Or take a step back and realize that a lot of this is coachspeak. That and the few tactical things mentioned all appear to be good for the returning O players: ie lots of shotgun

Great post Brian

I think you got it right this time. RR meddling with the D as his ultimatel downdall. PSU this year, Purdue the year before are great examples. If he let his DC actually do their job he would still be the coach. Hell, even if he did the same thing all over again but just didn't muck it up by throwing a monkey wrench into things for the PSU game this year and Purdue game the year before UM wins an extra game each season and he;s still here.

RR had plenty of chances. He blew them. Not its time to move on. As you mentioned it appears Hoke won't make the same mistakes. Who cares if he's not a genius as long as he knows how to run a TEAM. Offense and Defense.

double post.

double post.

Its obvious that RR had

Its obvious that RR had to leave.  Brian understood that.  no one is arguing that he be brought back.  No one is "still mad" that he was fired.  It is accepted.

^^^This is completely false. I see numerous post stating:

"why couldn't we just keep RR and bring in a top notch DC like Mattison".

"we are returning X amount of players on O. Just make some field goals and we win 11 games next year"

"our YPC was better in 2010 then any group Carr ever had. Our offensive was explosive and if we can just hold the other team to 50ppg we'll win"

blah blah

These people did NOT want RR gone. These people were the majority on this blog...but thats slowly crumbling away. After watching the bowl game in person this year I had had enough too.

You are obviously not too bright because you can't see the difference between wanting RR back and wanting to keep a good portion of his plays (which were non-read option).  THAT is what the press conferences sound like.  That is what is being railed against

What part of of Borges comments talking about Drob rushing for 1000yds do you or other stat junkies not understand? He wants DRob to run. He just wants our RUNNING BACKS to run too. You know so DRob can do that passing thing and keep D's honest and keep DRob HEALTHY.

Borges goes on about of his athletic ability, comparing him to Vick. He has openly said they ran quite a bit of shotgun last season at SDSU. How do you not like any of this? Have you seen SDSU's RB from lasy year? Have you seen their games? I'm guessing all the sky is falling stat junkies have NOT.

And yes I spit on stat junkies arguments that take moral victories in "racking up 100 more yds on OSU last year then they allowed on average". Who gives a fuck!?! What was the score.

Our how about another moral victory about how many more yards we got on Iowa then their season average...again. Who gives a fuck?

Call me an idiot thats fine. I'll call stat junkies what the are...probably people who never played a legit sport (let alone football) in their entire life. Frankly I don't know why we spend so much time takling about offense at all on this site. With the dynamic players we have (DRob is the best athlete at UM in generations) the O will be fine. We should be spending every post talking about the terrible defense. We don;t do that though do we...Why? B/c that makes RR look bad.

great post

great post. I hope Brian is just getting this whining out of his system now because if every other sentence is going to be talking about - what ifs - regarding RR then this blog is going to be terrible next season (regardless of the teams peformance on the field).

Everyone just needs to move on. RR stats are in place in UM football history...the good and the bad. We don't need to rehash them in every single article.

are you fucking 12yrs old?

Everyone, if I'm ever on the same side of an argument as this idiot please shoot me. haha. I'm not gonna reply anymore to you b/c I don't want this turning into some stupid internet argument. PLus you literally sound like your 12.

Anyways, I just felt the need to call out Brian and others who continue to cling to meaningless stats. We all want to win, lets give the new coaching staff a chance. Even if you don't want to b/c your still mad about RR....I know some hear me other think I'm crazy for accepting the fact that RR was gone.

I challenge anyone that was at that bowl game last season vs. Miss state (in person) that left and didn't see the need for change. UM and RR had nothing left. Time to move on.

cling to meaningless stats if you want

its just annoying. I'm glad plenty of people in this thread are tired of hearing Brian's complaining like a jilted lover. RR is GONE. Time to move on.

Make as many charts as you want about how great his scheme was but it didn't get the W's. PERIOD.

UM had great YPC thats nice. I bet there were plenty of years on that chart that had more than 7 W's and 7 points vs OSU. I'll take that over great YPC any day of the week.

You stat junkies can't see the forest from the trees. I bet if you look at the combined stats for the UCONN game and the OSU game you get some pretty nice numbers...well news flash. The yards and pts vs. UCONN don't count for shit against OSU...so lets stop beating our chest about OOC steam rolling of inferior squads. Lets stop acting like bad luck was all that was in the way of endless 64-42 victories for UM from here to 2015.

great post

I agree. Time for everyone to move on for RR. This coming for a diehard supporter. I went to the miss st bowl game hoping for a convincing win tha twould give RR another year. I sat through the whole game and took it ALL in.

By the time I got back to my hotel I had excepted the fact that changes was needed. RR was dealt a crappy hand but it was time to mix it up. The defense had no clue and the offense often stalled when it was needed the most (to extend a 7pt lead or come back from7-10pts down).

enough RR whining. lets move on.

Brian can you quit your whining and wait at least until sept?

Brian,

We had RR for 3 years and he put together one of the worst coaching records in UM history. I don't give a crap what our RB YPC were last season at the end of the day all that matters is W and L's....and we had WAY too many L's. I don't care if RR wasn't given a fair shake. RR is gone, so lets stop beating the dead horse and move on. PLEASE.

Lets give the coaching staff a chance before you climb to the roof of the building and start yelling about RB YPC in a 7-6 win season that saw UM get DESTROYED vs. OSU and in the bowl game. Borges has REPEATEDLY said he is going to work with the talent we have and has lauded Denards running ability. He's said he wants him to have 1000yds rushing. Whats wrong with that? Why do you care if Denard gets 2000yds rushing or he gets 1000 and another back gets 1000???? again lets give the coaches a chance to work with the players. Sure RR wasn't given this chance BUT YOU CAN'T GO BACK AND CHANGE THAT. JUDGING THIS COACHING STAFF BEFORE THEY DO ANYTHING ON THE FIELD ISN'T GOING TO MAKE IT ANY BETTER EITHER OR SUDDENLY MAKE EVERYONE FEEL DIFFERENTLY ABOUT RR.

Finally, games ARE NOT WON AND LOST BASED ON YARDS. Stop clinging to the stats that make you feel good. The only stats that matter are Wins and losses. I'm sick and tired about hearing about these gaudy stats that UM had last year.

good info

We should compare your estimated sizes to that of some other screen in college football. Auburn comes to mind for having a state of the art big screen. OU has some big screens as well.

If UM gets these screens in I will definitely go to a game next year. Right now I'm thinking maybe the NE game.

jax local info

I've heard from UF/UGA people that Jax wasn;t too great. They had a good time b/c of the game ..etc but didn;t say much about the surrounding area. The Landing for example was dismissed as pretty crappy. Similar to Underground Atlanta which we have here and that place sucks (tourist trap, shady, and crappy nightlife).

I'm probably going to spend the 30-31st down in St. Augstine (I'm headed on this trip with the GF so gotta through some romantic stuff in haha).

That being said we will spend pretty much all day/night in Jax on the 1st. What do you recommend for after the game in Jax? You said st john towncenter was good? Would that be a good place to bar hop on the 1st? any info would be appreciated. thanks

FWIW, we'll probably be staying near Southpoint (half way btwn Jax and St. Augustine). Thanks again. Go Blue!

Soony Saaad led the country in scoring as a frosh this year

He is getting called to u20s national team after the cup. He makes a name for himself their he could play in the u20 world cup then maybe the olympics..

Would be pretty cool to see a wolverine on the national team.

the gator bowl article implies that we will NOT play UF

reading the article it seems to me that UF might not get chosen.

Jacksonville is primarily a Gator town, but some worry Florida fans won't travel, won't spend the night and won't help the economy. The Gator Bowl Association will weigh that in its selection process.

Jacksonville is primarily a Gator town, but some worry Florida fans won't travel, won't spend the night and won't help the economy. The Gator Bowl Association will weigh that in its selection process.

"Still trying to get that balance," Catlett said. "We're not about college football. We're about economic impact."

"People would love the Gators because this is a Gator town," Clarissa Laster said. "However, the economy, such as it is, would benefit greatly to have other teams -- teams from out of state -- come in to help with the local economy."

sounds like UM fits the bill. UF not so much. perhaps, UM vs. UF would be the right combo of locals and outsiders though

bring on tough teams. no schedule padding for a shot at MNC.

UM has one 1 title in the last 50 years. Lets not act like NOT winning the title or being in the hunt makes your program a failure. If we have a couple  seasons with multiple losses then so be it.

I'd rather see UM play a great OOC every year then play all cupcakes and roll the dice in Big Ten play and a shot at a MNC. Then you are no better than Wisc. How many of us ridicule their joke OOC year in year out. And b/c of this WISC MUST go undefeated to play in the title. A one loss Wisc will never play in the title. And don't think that can't happen to UM (see 2006).

UM should set the standard for others. Kids want to play in BIG GAMES. not just national title games. You tell a kid we have Bama ,USC, UF, OU lined up over the next 10 years they will want some of that. You win some you lose some. If you win you spring board a big year. You lose you know what to work on and move on.

Losing 1 OOC to a legit power will not be looked down upon in the polls. If anything it will help when you are later piling up wins and that team you loss to is cruising along too.

I say 1 super power. ND. 1 mid tier BCS squad(historical 7win team). 1 cupcake every season. If we can't beat ND or a mid tier BCS team(maryland, texas tech, ASU, Pitt, s carolina) then we don't deserve a shot at the title anyways. UM could still lose to teh superpower and still play in the MNC anyways.

and since most superpowers won't sign up for home and homes I say we do neutral site games. The pay day can be generous at the right venue and the right team. most importantly like DB said its like an early season bowl game.

awesome

I love how the majority of the bowl is still dark since the bright lights are focused on the field. Reminds me of the Lakers gym where you can barely see the crowd past the first 5-7rows and the court just exploding with light.

I love it.

yds are nice. points are better.

lets not get carried away with yards.

Solution for those that like to stand

I think a simple strategy for us that want to change the atmosphere at UM (ie actually be loud like other hostile stadiums) is for us to actually try and buy seats lower in the bowl.

If we get get people in the lower bowl to stand (and they usually do) then it will trickle up to the masses. Hopefully the DOWN IN FRONT types will get the message and stop coming to games. There are plenty of people willing to come to UM games and actually cheer. Other UM fans will take their place and the gameday atmosphere will be better for it.
