Jane Is No Plain Jane

Prior to this well-written and entertaining piece, I'd never heard of you or read any of your missives. While some compare your style to Brian's, I'd say your style and substance is a finely textured combination of Mr. MGoBlog and John U. Bacon's. Perhaps it's premature to say, but maybe it's more accurate to observe that Brian's and John's writing styles resemble Jane's. Truly looking forward to more postings from you Jane. Thanks for brining her onboard Brian.

I'm new to the board and a novice in the world of BB's,

so I'm not sure if this is proper, but:

+1

Magnus' Zingerman's comment rocks and makes me hungry!  Off to my local deli in the Detroit 'burbs.

Ummm, that's twice you've posted

Jabrill Pepper's PR of 10.51 being "a full second", and  again "almost a full second" slower than the State of Florida record of 10.01.  Really?  Looks closer to a half of a second, right?  Also, the top two times in the nation for high school boys this year are 10.27 and 10.28.  Both athletes are from Florida, and being that they are competing now, it's more relevant to say he's just over 2/10 of a second behind the top 100 meter sprinters in the country.

False, True, No and Yes, MGS

Let me explain: as to the false/true dichotomy, Devin Gardner and Jabrill Peppers are better athletes than Braxton Miller, not just Jabrill Peppers; as to the no/yes dichotomy, one needs to incorporate DG as the superior QB/athlete into the equation with JP in order to see the 14 point  victroy Michigan will post against the Buckeyes come this November.

Spot on tedheadfred

Michigan by 14, with a predicate of the OL gelling and the overall 'D' being more consistent.

No Bando, BH wouldn't just go back to the 2001 season,

he'd go back to the 1985 season to demonstrate how the series is somewhat cyclical.  In that year, the Wolverines began 15 years of domination over the Buckeyes which exceeds the current OSU streak.  Michigan won 12 games from 1985 - 2000, with the men from the Snakepit posting 3 victories.  Further, from 1988 through the 1997 seasons, OSU managed just one victory during those 10 seasons which is similar to the Ohio streak from 2001 through 2010.  Finally, Brady Hoke would remind the players that each game against the arch rival has very close since he's taken over; although 1-2, the average difference in the score of the three games is only 4 points.

It's really hard to make the case that Urban Meyer has demonstrated superior coaching vs. Brady Hoke when you understand that - as other's have duly noted - the OSU roster was filled with a greater number of talented players when Urban came on board when compared to what we had available....it's true we had some great recruits, but as prevoius analysis shows most of those great recruits ended up leaving the program thus leaving the mostly cupboard bare.  In fact, given the talent superiority of Ohio State the last three meetings, one could argue that Brady's done more with less and Urban's teams have underperformed.

For additional perspective, consider the following -

Jamaican Usain Bolt bolt owns the top two fastest 100 meter times of 9.58 and 9.63.  After that America Tyson Gay and Jamaican Yohan Blake join Mr. Bolt in being the only humans to run under 9.70 as each has recorded 9.69.  Being a second behind in a 100 meter dash equates to about 10 meters.

American Florence Griffith-Joyner, affectionately known FloJo, shocked the world in 1988 by demolishing the former women's 100 meter record by 2.7 seconds; from Evelyn Ashford's 10.76 - the first woman to break 10.80 - to an amazing 10.49.  However, at the time of the race, the wind was blowing well above the legal limit at 4.4 meters per second (m/s) as recorded the triple jump annometer merely 10 meters away from the race.  But, the Olympic official monitoring the trackside anemometer said there was no wind, thus the time stands as accurate.  FloJo's next best time was over a second higher at 10.61.

Wolverine Jabrill Peppers ran a 10.51 last year - 17th fastest in the country for boys compared to the girls fastest of 11.34 and the boys at 10.27.  This year's 10.52 mark is the 22nd best mark.  Further evidence of his national class speed is his 200 meter times: 21.13 was good for the 24th among all prepsters.  Suffice it to say, there will likely be nary a soul who can catch Jabrill or few that he can't catch from behind.
