|05/03/2018 - 4:32pm||Saw him once...||
Probably around 1998? I was living in the white apartments across from the bagel factory. I think he went in to get a fragel. I thought about running out to try to meet him, but never did. I regret that.
|05/03/2018 - 9:43am||Are you in Denver?||
If so have you heard of the Denver carp slam tournament? Looks like a lot of fun. I haven't tried for carp, but it seems to be the new thing around here. Weird fly fishing in the middle of Denver though. Snagging hypodermic needles etc.
|05/02/2018 - 7:46pm||I've done it a few times...||
I used regular flies, even nymphs, so not "real" tenkara with a tenkara style dry fly, but whatever... I went back to a traditional western rod and reel though. I snapped one expensive tenkara rod after a light snag. Also, any amount of wind makes it really hard to cast. The "fly line" is super ultra light weight and won't carry a fly in the wind. It must be less windy in Japan than in Colorado. However, it is awesome for backpacking. You can just take one with you on a bike ride, hike, stop, telescope the rod and fish. Super convenient. Very minimal gear. Would be good for overnight backpacking etc.
However, if you are going to drive out to the river and fish, I guess I don't see the point? In a small stream with really light wind it would work great though because the super long rod allows you to reach out and just drop the fly into the hole then follow it down stream with no drag.
|04/29/2018 - 11:03pm||Been awhile since I've been to a game.||
I'm deeply saddened that the donuts and cider have gone away! Sacriledge!
|04/25/2018 - 5:11pm||My take...||
MSU knows it can't do anything to stop the hit on its reputation amongst the general public. They are only worried about their fan base, alumni, future students. The "fuck the victims and ESPN" narrative keeps their pride intanct. Sparty nation is drinking the kool aid and they will keep buying tickets, proud of the rebilious defiance of Mork and Izzo. Their plan is working. Sad but true. This will be old news in a year and Sparty will be riding the gravy train again while Engler stuffs his face with BBQ in a mansion in Florida. Crime pays. Ask Penn State.
MSU's strategy is working and it is brilliant in a lot of ways. Disgusting, but brilliant. If Sparty beats us again this year, the slappies will build Engler a statue.
|04/25/2018 - 4:53pm||No one cares.||
Sad but true. MSU will be fine. It will continue to happen. God bless America.
|04/24/2018 - 4:24pm||I hate to even bring this up...||
Aside from MSU being buddy buddy with this guy (not suprising at all... we are talking about MSU here), why was he allowed to coach girls volleyball? Are there no adults left in the world?
|04/24/2018 - 4:19pm||Exactly!||
Best response I've read in quite a while canzior.
|04/24/2018 - 4:06pm||This culture is pervasive in our society.||
I think that is the really scary part of all this. Deep down, many people don't care or think it's girls crying rape. I think the "they don't represent us!" faction at MSU is mostly a farce. Beat Michigan. If that means some girls get raped, so be it. The stadium will be full next year with people rabidly cheering on a team that they damn well know has several future rapists on it. They of course will rationalize this somehow, but I just can't see it any other way.
Dantonio is still a hero even after he recruited Auston Robertson to the team. I'm sure he has a few more questionable characters getting ready to suit up. I'm also sure they are going to sell a lot of tickets and merchandise to an adoring fan base.
Penn State is back riding the gravy train with famous comedians supporting the program. The NCAA lifted the sanctions and gave back the wins. The same thing will happen at MSU. Jackson will go in the top ten in the NBA draft, think he gives a shit? The lesson to be learned is clear: pay off the victims and carry on as usual. It's very depressing to me at this point.
People will go to MSU because they think it is in their best interests to do so. They will live in blissfull denial of the sick institution they are supporting. Athletes will do the same. It's human nature.
God I'm so over all of this. What sick joke it all is. Sorry for the rant.
|04/23/2018 - 3:21pm||How is Dylan's mobility?||
Seems like he must have a bit of his brother's talents to work with?
|04/23/2018 - 3:19pm||All good points...||
I think the coaching and QB play was, unfortunately, less than mediocre? Of all the things you mentioned, those two issues stood out to me.
I'm hoping Patterson will be elligible because I think his play could have an effect on the coaching. It would almost force less reliance on late developing passes, or at least it would provide a viable "out" for plays that take too long to come together.
One problem, and maybe this is my inner fanboy talking, is that the NCAA seems to hate Harbaugh. I see them denying his elligibility out of spite. The NCAA is that big of a joke. They may see this as Harbaugh "taking advantage of loopholes" which has already drawn ire?
|04/21/2018 - 5:00pm||He also appeared on the signing of the stars thing...||
Really a shame. Seemed like a good human being.
|04/19/2018 - 2:27pm||I really wouldn't be shocked.||
They don't care about being fair and would enjoy sticking it to Harbaugh if possible. Choose the right thing to do, do opposite. NCAA mantra.
|04/18/2018 - 9:30pm||That quote coud be from Satan himself...||
It would still be 100 percent accurate.
|04/18/2018 - 9:29pm||That quote coud be from Satan himself...||
It would still be 100 percent accurate.
|04/18/2018 - 6:27pm||I think this sums it up for me...||
Quote from the victim's attorney:
"MSU personnel have molested her, threatened her, lied to her, bullied her, silenced her, called her a liar and now the office of the president of the university accuses her of purveying 'fake news' because she dared to speak the truth," Manly said. "There is apparently no depths of depravity or dishonesty that Engler and his minions will not sink to. They clearly loathe survivors."
|04/15/2018 - 11:26pm||That article...||
He wrote another great one last year. No kidding, i think the dude is a really talented writer? I wonder if he has thought about that? Really impressive. I'd no shit like to read a monthly column by him.
|04/14/2018 - 12:23pm||That Player's Tribune article he wrote was fantastic...||
What a cool way to go out. Made me proud. I hope we get to see some of the quotes be re-quoted after he wins an NBA chanpionship.
|04/14/2018 - 11:45am||Yet another Beilein "project"...||
Great work by Moe to make the show! Great work by the coaches in helping him get there. Another quality kid comes to Michigan as a relative unknown and leaves as a legend and possible first rounder. Simply awesome if we all take a step back and think about it from the perspective of "did Michigan do this kid right."
As a Wolverine, I wanted him back, but it's about doing what is right for him. I honestly think the time for him is now. Kill it in the league Moe. Thanks for the memories and for doing Wolverine nation proud.
As for Mathews, I think another year would serve him well. I guess we shall see. Either way, go blue!!!
|04/14/2018 - 5:22am||10-2||
Depending on the losses, that could still buy us a trip to Indy. Hope we go undefeated, but a lot of tough road games. Undefeated will take some good fortune, but we are due for some I guess.
|04/14/2018 - 5:05am||This shit fell in Denver last year.||
Total armageddon. Destroyed my house. The sound of the storm approaching was the creepiest thing. My poor dogs tried to jump through the windows. Fun times.
|04/14/2018 - 4:59am||I can remember a few nasty ice storms in oakland county.||
Maybe late eighties and early/mid nineties? No power, heat, water... I actually remember it being kind of fun as a kid though. We camped out in the living room in sleeping bags by the fire and played board games. We went sledding at mach 5 on the ice snow...
Now, as an adult, I would probably hate it? Michigan weather is only for the brave/insane among us.
|04/13/2018 - 6:23pm||I was just reading the latest posts...||
The special counsel to the President already tipped their hand... Per Mlive report already posted:
"I said again, it's not about money," Lorincz said. "[Special Counsel to the President] Carol Viventi said 'Well you're in civil litigation, aren't you? That's what a civil case is about, money."
I think this is the explanation for all of this. MSU is trying to portray the victims as ambulance chasers at any cost. They must have some insight that it is working? At least for those already sympathetic to MSU (Alumni, fans)? I'm sure they realized early on that they weren't going to win the hearts and minds of most rational people, so they might as well focus on the irrational people that will back MSU and it's money making machinery even as the ugly, unhideable, facts keep coming out.
No PR firm is this bad. They must have data suggesting that a lot of people are on board with the money grab defense.
|04/13/2018 - 5:50pm||There has to be some explanation...||
There just has to be? Doesn't there?
They have employed $1000 per hour lawyers and this is the strategy? Is Engler just ignoring the advice of counsel?
I can't wrap my head around this.
|04/12/2018 - 7:50pm||Good luck to the kid.||
Hate to see anyone go, but I can see why. The roster is stacked next year.
|04/12/2018 - 7:45pm||I tend to agree...||
God himself couldn't coach the Lions effectively. I don't have an issue with it. I liked some, not all, but some of what I saw from him and his staff.
|04/12/2018 - 4:24pm||So, what is MSU's actual stance here????||
MSU: We all need to listen to the victims and not blame them... Unless they sue MSU. If that is the case they are all liars. We also don't comment on pending lawsuits, but now that she screwed us, here is enough information about the accuser to hopefully blow her annonymity. Act appropriately towards her everyone... You hear that boys? Any team pride left? You gonna let this slide?
So, which victims are we not to beieve at this point? It seems like this is the first one that MSU has publicly accused of lying. Is that true? Anyone keeping a tally?
|04/12/2018 - 4:12pm||My greatest fear is that this is a farce.||
If Sparty really wanted them gone, they would be gone. With him there they can blame Engler while saying "he doesn't stand for us" while buying season tickets to watch next year's rape squad that Engler is doing his best to protect. The stadium stays full, the merch sells, you have a plausible "bad guy" doing the dirty work so you don't have to look dirty yourself. Everybody wins.
The world is a sick sad place. MSU is too big to go down. Ask Penn State. Their biggest mistake was accepting responsibility. MSU's fuck the victims approach might actually work for them. At any rate, I'm 100% certain they will have a full football stadium and Breslin next year even if people have to walk past 100's of victims telling them not to enter.
|04/10/2018 - 1:31pm||"Smoke surrounding the athletic programs"||
I still suggest "glowing nuclear fallout" surrounging the athletic programs.
|04/10/2018 - 1:19pm||I will forgive the good sparties||
As soon as they manage to do something about the dispicable behavior of their representative leaders. They won't. They will say "Engler doesn't represent us!" while buying season tickets to watch their rape squads. Pillow talk...
|04/10/2018 - 1:14pm||she was asking for it anyway.||
All 300* victimims were. They dressed sexy. Happens everywhere. Just say it.
|04/10/2018 - 1:12pm||100 percent worse.||
|04/10/2018 - 1:03pm||Where are the "this is political" mods remove whiners????||
I was able to make it through almost 10 respones without anyone: 1. bitching about the person that posted this for breaking the no politics rule 2. defending Sparty and their sick as hell institution 3. Waxing poetic about the soundness of MSU's legal strategy 4. asking the mods to censor the post.
You're sleeping at the wheel Sparty. Keep fighting! We are all counting on you!
On another note. I'm over this. I'm not apologizing to my Sparty friends anymore. They want a fight, lets give it to them. This is absurd. Burn it down.
|04/09/2018 - 5:29pm||So... A female reporter walks into the locker room...||
Tell me if you've heard this one guys...
|04/09/2018 - 5:27pm||Yup. Lmfao.||
Every school has an Autson Robertson, Nassar, Strampel, Fegusson, Payne, Walton, Appling, continue as if calculating pi...
Speaking to my Sparty friends has become an excersise in futility. It's hillarious. I'm just mocking them in a similar fasion to your post moving forward. If I were to become as delusional as they are I would want them to call me out. It's just common courtesy. Like pointing out a piece of toilet paper to stuck your friend's shoe.
|04/09/2018 - 4:42pm||He is there to protect MSU at all costs and by any means...||
He is doing just that. I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I'll say it again. His role also could be seen to serve a dual purpose. He can be the "rogue" bad guy that protects the university and it's revenue generators by any means necessary and the "good spartans" can claim, justifiably so, that he doesn't represent their true values as an institution. Best of both worlds... MSU gets to fight the victims and the "ambulance chasers" - as Trustee Joel Ferguson refers to them as - without gloves while still appearing to give a shit about them and the other girls raped by athletes under the ever vigilante eyes of Izzo and Mork. The University saves money, the alumni can still show their face in public... Win win situation...
As an alum of the law school, I'm now simultaneously disgusted and filled with admiration for the stragegy.
They are winning. Incredible job. I'd hire Engler in a second to defend my company if something this awful happens on my watch - it won't btw if anyone knows my true identity on this site... Sad but true. Spartans will.
|04/09/2018 - 4:39pm||Eureka...||
I think you are on to something there poseidon. Perhaps a compromise? Surely a super thread to be used by those wishing to discuss this wouldn't offend anyone? To fight against that could only be percieved as a fight against rational oppinions, not the forum in which they are being expressed.
|04/09/2018 - 4:35pm||Point taken...||
See my post above regarding forum vs content... I'd still err on the side of non-censorship. I guess I don't see the horrible wrong you are seeking to prevent by suggesting the mods put a stop to these discusions on the blog.
|04/09/2018 - 4:31pm||I want to know...||
Is your objection to the content of this speech or the forum being used to communincate it? You are asking the mods to make a difficult decision. Is this a public forum subject to the norms of reasonable disucussion or is it a private forum subject to a more stringent policy on discussing anything remotely political in nature?
I agree that this is skirting the no politics rule for this sports blog, but I feel very uncomfortable with the idea of censoring anything having to do with current events affecting the athletic programs of the institution we refer to as little brother. It seems relevant to me.
|04/09/2018 - 3:42pm||Section...||
Why does it bother you so much that people want to talk about this? Don't click on the link? Seriously, what is your agenda here?
|04/09/2018 - 3:33pm||Next appointment...||
Harvey Weinstein as director of media relations... lmfao. What a joke this all is.
|04/08/2018 - 8:44pm||See my comment above regarding the scripted QB chatter.||
It did seem a little cookie cutter to me as well. To each his own I guess. Hate to harp on something like that. Nit picky... Harbaugh also seemed like a genuinely good guy. I was impressed by the way he handled the losses as his availability to the players.
|04/08/2018 - 8:40pm||It just seemed strange...||
To have a quarterback ghost writer... I would find it odd in the same way I would find it odd if I, as a player, learned that Harbaugh's pre-game speeches were actually written for him by someone else and he memorized them and played it off as if they were his own.
If you were a player, and you found out that all the inspirational words of encouragement your QB gave you on the sideline were actually scripted from a coach but your QB pretended that they were his own words, wouldn't you find that odd?
Maybe Speight misunderstood Pep's intent when he quoted him verbatim without crediting him?
I dunno, maybe I'm making it a bigger deal than it is...
|04/08/2018 - 8:28pm||When you really think about it...||
It's kind of silly that we care as much as we do about any "sport." Bunch of dudes chasing a ball around vs nerds at computers. Don't get me wrong, I'm addicted to Michigan athletics, but I've never really understood why I care so much? Go Blue. Way to kick ass at LoL.
|04/08/2018 - 3:04pm||I'm sad...||
That nobody got this joke...
|04/08/2018 - 2:58pm||Man I hope you are right...||
Her story is actually pretty incredible. It would make for a great movie. Maybe "Public Enemy Number One" as the title. Only, to MSU Rachael is the enemy, not Nassar. Hear that Oliver Stone??? If you steal that I want my cut!
|04/08/2018 - 2:23pm||My God LDD10. You are making my point for me.||
You sound like a lot of Spartys I've talked to about this. Not all, but an allarming number say the same things.
A tape of Dantonio cheering on a rape could surface and you still wouldn't see anything. Your loyalty blinds you to something that is horrifically obvious to outside observers.
Dantonio recruited a known sexual assailant to campus and he proceeded to rape another girl at MSU. That's what sexual predators tend to do....
Dantonio passed the buck to the admissions people as if that absolves him of any responsibility. Worse yet, he actually feels no remorse!!!! What a fucking saint he is... What if it was your daughter that Robertson raped on campus? Is football and beating Michigan that important to you? It obviously is to Dantonio.
Autson Robertson was one of at least 17 other sexual assailants that have played and raped under Dantonio's watch. There is more "smoke" - if you want to call it smoke, flourescent glowing nuclear fallout is probably more accurate - suggesting that Dantonio and Izzo have some blood on their hands, but I don't have the strength to re-write the laundry list. It wouldn't matter to you anyway if I did. I'm horrified by people like you and your ability to deny what has/is happening at this school you so identify with.
It is a horrible look for Michigan State and its alumni. BTW, I am a part of that Alumni...
You - and I gues me by association to the school - are the Iraqi army in my previous analogy. Engler and his talking heads are the Iraqi press guy. Michigan Statee's plan is working. Keep drinking that Kool-Aid. The BOT and their $1000 an hour lawyers are counting on people like you to carry the torch. I wouldn't want to carry the torch, but then again I'm not a part of the cult.
|04/08/2018 - 2:15pm||Thanks Detroit Blue...||
You supplied the laundry list for me... I swear to god it is a fucking cult. These people are nuts. I swear on my grandmother's grave, if Beilein had done that, I would want him gone. Maybe that is the real "Michigan Difference?"
|04/08/2018 - 1:23pm||Pep scripting QB sideline chatter???||
Lot's of replies to this post, hope this hasn't been addressed ad nauseum... Did anyone find the scripted sideline chatter from to Pep to Speight wierd?
I could see saying "Wilton, we need to take this bull by the horns. Communicate that to the team" But not something like "Wilton, tell them that we are going to have to go win this game. We are going to have to go and take it. Can't change what has happened, just move forward" Then Wilton going to the team and saying "Ok guys, we are going to have to go win this game, we are going to have to go and take it, Can't change what has happened, just move forward..." as if he had come up with it on his own?
That comes off as scripted and incinsere, because... it is scripted and incinsere? Can't blame Wilton for that, but not a good motivational tactic from my point of view. I guess it works for politicians, but not good for football. A leader has to be allowed to become a leader on the sidelines, the coaches can't manufacture it. Even if he is just a dick, let him be his own dick.
Lot's of awesome and inspring stuff in the series. Also some things that make me say, hmmm, I don't like that. Guess that is good TV?
|04/08/2018 - 11:09am||Ughh.. It's making me crazy. I can't remember...||
Maybe i dreamt it? I'm going to go on a mission to find it. Maybe a different show??? I can't articulate it exactly, but the point they made was profound to me. It's a good system. You elect a government, the government can run roughshod, then when people complain or implicate you, you say "it's not us, it's them!"
I remember noticing this while traveling in Europe. Many europeans would say "I hate your government, but I love Americans."
It will be interesting to see what happens when the next election of the board of trustees comes around. At some point you have to take personal responsibility for the actions of the people you elect to represent you.
