01/29/2017 - 10:53am Good kid, good family

I met the kid and the family when he was in 6th grade - good people all around. I know his dad is a Michigan alum, so he's continuing one family tradition. (Just wish he had gone to his dad's high school alma mater, but that's another story...)

12/18/2016 - 1:57pm As demographics show for

As demographics show for Metro Detroit for at least the next 6-8 years, the number of school-age children drops considerably, so everyone is going to be experiencing an enrollment decline very soon, regardless of location. I know that all but one Detroit-area Catholic high schools saw a dip in their freshmen enrollment this past year.

12/18/2016 - 2:46am Don't tell that to former

Former basketball coaches Bernie Holowicki or Rick Coratti would disagree.

12/18/2016 - 2:44am This move really doesn't make

This move really doesn't make any sense, especially for a coach who was putting his own stamp on the program. This year's varsity team rebounded from a horrendous 2015 and the lower levels seem solid as well, and it seemed like the program was still in line with the Rice football tradition.

The entire power structure at Brother Rice has changed in the past couple years and it almost seems like the school wants to redefine itself, but doesn't know how to do it. The president and principal are in their first year at the school, and the AD (who is an alum) is in his second year. Several veteran faculty members have also recently retired, adding to the "identity crisis". While the overall athletic program is still very good, the school has seen a decent drop in enrollment to under 600 kids and very small freshman class this year. Firing the football coach could be a bit of a tipping point for the school, especially with alumni who are not happy about the move.

12/07/2016 - 7:41pm To add some fuel to the rumor

To add some fuel to the rumor fire, his high school football coach, Paul Verska, now works for the CMU football program in an administrative capacity - http://cmuchippewas.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/paul_verska_1024096.html.

08/26/2016 - 4:49pm Mike Gill!

04/29/2016 - 5:56pm Maryland/Michigan 1989

That was the first Michigan game I attended and as a seven year-old, I sat in the student section with my brother. Needless to say, it was an eye-opening experience.

04/14/2016 - 7:33pm What? Are you saying

What? Are you saying Nebraska/Texas from 1996 isn't a classic B1G game?

I presume that Curtis Blackwell sent out this tweet from Dantonio's account (though with Dantonio probably approving the language).

02/06/2016 - 6:08pm Ummm

Who did MSU supposedly pay in their most recent basketball recruiting class?

02/06/2016 - 6:04pm Then...

Then why do keep you posting if you could care less about what random posters on MGoBlog believe?

01/14/2016 - 2:01pm Extra days

They still get extra days at Thanksgiving as well.

01/14/2016 - 11:53am Dress down day for exams

Students were allowed to dress down for semester exams if they brought in their quota for "Pledge Detroit", which replaced the Walkathon five years ago.

01/14/2016 - 11:48am Interesting...

Boston College has offered Scotty Nelson out of U of D, I believe, as a defensive back - I wonder if Harbaugh is seeing him on a recommendation from Don Brown.

On a side note, my nephew is the kid wearing the red sweater in the photo - he picked the wrong day to wear red.

12/17/2014 - 9:31am A certain local flamethrower

A certain local flamethrower (Brian's words) tweeted this out earlier today, though he did say it was, in part, because of the comments he made regarding the "Block M"/Denard Robinson. I know there were several football alums who were not happy with what Lochmann had said.

12/16/2014 - 11:34am BAHHHH!!!!

11/11/2014 - 9:41am Welp...

Thankfully, Schlissel is no Gordon Gee.

11/10/2014 - 10:42am Yikes

That's some scary stuff - hope he gets better soon and is able to continue is very promising career.

11/07/2014 - 11:47am I would need to smoke some

I would need to smoke some opium to understand what MeanJoe07/BalsamicVinegar is saying.

11/06/2014 - 2:57pm I think

MeanJoe07 is actually a band of monkeys on computers, trying to come up with the next great American novel.

11/06/2014 - 1:09pm Wow

Keegan Michael-Key is from Southfield - he went to Shrine High School, home of John Wangler and Paul Seymour.

11/04/2014 - 10:20am Or this, but with Brandon's face

11/02/2014 - 9:59am Culture Change

Me thinks this is a prime example of the Athletic Department-wide "culture" Pres. Schlissel is looking to change and try to eliminate or at least reduce the "us vs. them" mentality.

10/31/2014 - 3:39pm Salary question

Wasn't his salary escalating up to $1.1 million by the end of the contract? Looks like the school saved a little with the buyout.
