Damn Shame!!

06/18/2018 - 3:27pm Yeah, that penalty was awful…

Yeah, that penalty was awful, but I feel like England is just not sharp enough in front of goal right now.  They're creating chances, but nothing comes of it.  Interesting to see if Rashford makes an impact.

06/17/2018 - 7:49am What a weird year for in…

What a weird year for in-state recruiting and what terrible timing for it to be a weird year for in-state recruiting.

06/15/2018 - 9:17pm I'm okay with darby as that…

I'm okay with darby as that's about the only way most Americans hear it and so they'll have a better chance of understanding what it means.  Otherwise I agree on the pronunciation.

06/15/2018 - 3:47pm That Free Kick was amazing.

That Free Kick was amazing.

06/15/2018 - 3:06pm The Volkswagen ones are…

The Volkswagen ones are great, too.

06/15/2018 - 1:06pm An Own goal off a set piece…

An Own goal off a set piece in stoppage time....

Think you got what you wanted.

06/15/2018 - 10:03am Yeah, when the goalpost…

Yeah, when the goalpost becomes your best defender, the goal is coming.

06/15/2018 - 9:22am Well, yeah, that's the only…

Well, yeah, that's the only path forward for them.  Personally I hate this as it slows the game down and turns it into a slog, but it's the strategy that will work for them, hoping for that Uruguay goal to crack the game open.

06/14/2018 - 12:24am Recruiting news? On Mgoblog?…

Recruiting news? On Mgoblog?

When did this become a thing?

06/12/2018 - 8:42am Yep, entirely reasonable…

Yep, entirely reasonable perspective for them to have.  Sucks that Tressel lived to beat Michigan and ran up against late era Lloyd Carr and then OSU lucked into Urban just as OSU looked like they were about to actually hit a rough patch and Michigan were still stepping all over their cranks.  Once we beat them the Game will move back up the list real f'ing quick.

06/11/2018 - 12:30pm I was so excited for "The…

I was so excited for "The years of Rice and Salt" and thought it was such a great premise and for about the first 80% it was great and then the endgame got extremely boring and I couldn't finish it.  A fascinating mental exercise.

06/10/2018 - 11:57pm Co-sign, The Codex Novels…

Co-sign, The Codex Novels have an intriguing premise, but the characters just don't crackle the same way they do in The Dresden Files.  The Cinderspire novel he wrote was okay, but also not Dresden.

06/10/2018 - 11:51pm Just read A Confederacy of…

Just read A Confederacy of Dunces and loved every single page.

Highly recommend it if you haven't read it already.

06/09/2018 - 11:57am Hope so, I used to live in…

Hope so, I used to live in Saline, so would love to see a Saline Hornet do well and graduate from Va. Tech.

Plus a lot of friends from the Air Force are Hokies and I would prefer for them to be happy rather than sad.

06/09/2018 - 11:55am Oh, that wasn't ironic.

So…

Oh, that wasn't ironic.

So you weren't being funny, just being an asshole.  Got it.

06/09/2018 - 11:39am You have a good point, but…

You have a good point, but it's probably not going to change anything for a few reasons:

1.  The in-state recruiting shenanigans that happened during the Rodriguez era left an impression on folks that most local Detroit coaches have an in-built anti-UM bias, or if nothing else that they have grudges against UM that MSU staffers have easily exploited in the past.

2.  Wheatley is gone and there really isn't a local Detroit-UM guy on staff to keep up that connection and so people assume that everything is going to go back to what they consider normal.

3.  We all love Sam Webb, BUT his job depends on access and so he is going to spin things as positively as possible, so him defending the Belleville coach and program and painting it in the best light possible is hard to take as an exoneration.

4.  Twitter, outside of the breaking news aspect, exists for two reasons, virtue-signalling and ass-covering, so a Twitter explanation seems suspect as well.

For what it's worth I don't understand why a high school coach would want to develop a reputation for turning a kid against the local powerhouse and so I go with Occam's razor.  In this case the razor says that UM football isn't exactly a compelling value proposition right now and so all recruiting, including local recruiting is going to be harder until Harbaugh proves that whatever Gremlins make the team play like shit on the road and keep the O-line from being any good are gone.

06/09/2018 - 11:11am I believe you mean the ping…

I believe you mean the ping pong balls being dictated to go their way to keep Gilbert happy and engineer Lebron going back to Cleveland.

06/09/2018 - 11:01am That's my thought.  Golden…

That's my thought.  Golden State is a franchise that hadn't had much success outside of the Run TMC era and they built themselves up with an entertaining style of play and, with one notable exception, a group of easy to root for players.

I was on a project in the Bay Area years ago and my co-workers and I  went to a Warriors game and I remember being enthralled by both the enthusiasm of the crowd and how much fun to watch the Warriors style of play was.  If I didn't already have a pretty strong NBA team allegiance, I could see myself rooting for this team.

As it is, as long as Warriors fans don't rise to New England levels of obnoxiousness, I'm happy to have them be a dynasty.

06/09/2018 - 10:41am Steve Lorenz seemed to feel…

Steve Lorenz seemed to feel it was inevitable, looks like he was right.

It's always tough to pull a guy that far away from home and the April visit was going to get further and further away in his memory as time went on.

The Spring visits are nice to at least get the exposure, but I almost think of it as bring in someone plausible who can go back and tell his buddies how much fun he had and pique THEIR interest for a fall visit is likely the best outcome.  With a spring visit commitment that isn't LOCAL-ish actually staying with the class being an unanticipated bonus.

Bad Ass, On and Off the track!

Congratulations Mr. Flanagan?

06/04/2018 - 11:34am One(or even two) loss(es)

One(or even two) loss(es) between Nebraska or @ Northwestern.  Nebraska is going to be fired up in their first year under Frost and will want a big scalp for that first year, either that or Michigan's insane luck against NorthWestern finally runs out.

Something stupid happening against one of the other three Big Ten teams.  Michigan's luck against Indiana is eventually going to run out, and Maryland and Rutgers may just have a big day.

06/04/2018 - 10:46am The luck is eventually going

The luck is eventually going to run out against Indiana and NorthWestern.

Nebraska is going to be fired up for their first Big Ten Road game under their own hot new coach who came home.

There's space for something bad to happen.

06/04/2018 - 9:24am Not a big gambler, but

Not a big gambler, but appreciate the internet tough-guying.

06/04/2018 - 9:22am Fine, a lack of self-belief

Fine, a lack of self-belief led things to spiral the moment anything went wrong in a crazily pressure packed year, see Maryland game.  Along with teams figuring Michigan was vulnerable and then playing at an elevated level of play, see Rutgers game.

Either way, the parallels right now aren't my favorite.

06/04/2018 - 9:19am They've really improved the

They've really improved the last couple years, but are completely one-dimensional, whereas Air Force and Navy will both pass the ball every once in a while.  So in a sense, they're still the least threatening of the option teams, but they have improved from where they were.

06/04/2018 - 9:12am I admit, it may be a little

I admit, it may be a little out there but this is how I see it.  The Notre Dame game is critical for the team in terms of narrative and pressure, if they come out and lose that one, then I see the season spiraling down as a lot of other teams will smell blood, much the way they did in Hoke's last year and the team can't respond every week to the various do or die scenarios.

I just need to see this team play a road game where they actually look settled, the offensive line able to pass protect against a wet sack being blown down the field, and for someone, anyone on the team to make a big play when it matters.  Without those things, I see 5-7.

06/04/2018 - 8:04am Good, Bad

Good: Defense and an immediate ability to take advantage of the talent on the roster.

Bad: The team remains fucking awful on the road, I was really surprised that that remains a thing. It's the whole reason my prediction for this year is 5-7, insane pressure plus an inability to find their asses with two hand and a flashlight while on the road, WITH this road schedule and it all looks like rough sailing ahead.

05/31/2018 - 4:16pm Seems like a high-floor type

Seems like a high-floor type player with size and strength from a strong program.  i like this pickup and I like they pounced on him before Clemson could.

Nice work on the O-Line, now let's get some D-line and skill guys on board :).

Great news and Great video!, but let's be honest the pink shoes were a dead giveaway on the decision ;).

Dumbest! Goal! Ever!

05/25/2018 - 10:43am As far as the DB's question

As far as the DB's question goes, two points:

1.  I don't think this was solely about slot fades, the coaching staff has always liked tall DB's, so over-reacting to one very speculative data point doesn't seem quite right.

2.  DB wasn't exactly a position of striking depth last year.  An injury to either Kinnel or Metellus would have been a big problem and cornerback really only went four deep at a position that often plays three guys on the field at the same time.  I know everyone wanted O-Line and D-Line last recruiting cycle, but just because you think a position isn't a need, doesn't mean it isn't one.

05/23/2018 - 8:26pm Usually it refers to an

Don't follow Ace(or anyone else)on twitter and generally could care less(people get to have interests outside their job and can express them however they like, don't like it change the channel) but from what I understand, Virtue Signalling refers to an unprovoked expression of a position that will get a lot of applause on social media without much of an inspiration beyond, "Hey look at me, I'm a good person, too." adding nothing to the conversation, beyond the pile-on of "approved" opinions. So it seems pretty far off from what you're hearing.

That one is a GREAT twist on the monster under the bed idea. Cracks me up every time I see it, just wish it wasn't tied into a commercial with F'ing Flo.

05/17/2018 - 2:16pm Even in the modern era.

Even in the modern era:

They have two titles when they not only didn't win their conference, but didn't even win their division and basically got in because voters were afraid to piss off the SEC commisioner.

He's a dick, but he's got a point.

05/16/2018 - 4:57pm The question was unpopular

The question was unpopular opinions, not asinine opinions.

05/15/2018 - 6:27pm It's holding up really well

It's holding up really well and I love it.  Very comfortable and spacious and three and a half years in and regular use and no sign of any issues.

Very happy with it and looking forward to putting my son in it in five and a half years.

I am with you on how hard it is to get at anything in the engine anymore, but given how everything is run by computer, does it even really matter, save for when you have to jump it?

Absolutely not with you on the crumple vs. rigid thing.

My advice: Just bite the bullet and get a mini-van.  Trust me you'll be glad you did.

05/14/2018 - 3:46pm Quibbling,
Their last regular

Quibbling,

Their last regular season game was a 10-1 blowout at the hands of Ohio State.  So with that and then the 7-0 loss to Michigan State in the BTT, Brian's correct to say that's not an expecially encouraging lead-in to the NCAA tournament.

05/10/2018 - 1:19pm Generational thing for me,

Generational thing for me, but team MJ.

He could do it all and had a maniacal desire to win that resulted in some crazy dominant teams that showed up in the Finals.  Can't say that about all of Lebron's teams.

Hope so, D-Line is a huge need in this class if everyone's trajectory maintains.

Right, I didn't mention that because that was called practice.  I was talking about the extracurriculars.

What's the Lucas question about?

Icy Hot in.the jock as a prank one day and having to carry the tackling and blocking dummies out to the field during summer camp was it as far as any sort of "welcome to football" that we got as a freshman, this was back in 1991, have to imagine even that is smashed down now.
