10/07/2018 - 9:26am This moment was so…

This moment was so delightful! Not sure if I like this pic better or the one at the top of this post.

09/21/2018 - 3:37pm Thank you, Seth.

Thank you, Seth.

09/21/2018 - 3:25pm No.  "Unrivaled" is their…

No.  "Unrivaled" is their tag line.  If we declare them a rival, it would be pathetic on our part.  At least that's how their fan base would take it.  I'm not dealing with that BS, and I certainly can't care enough to fight about it with them.

09/14/2018 - 11:28am Yeah, watched the game with…

Yeah, watched the game with a PSU fan (I know) who said about the dropped punt attempt, "I don't see how that could have gone much worse."  To which I replied, "REALLY????!!!???"

08/29/2018 - 2:55pm These tweets make me want to…

These tweets make me want to go straight to an Alanon meeting.  Also waiting for him to say "Fake news!!! Witch hunt!!!"

08/01/2018 - 12:41pm From MLive, 9/7/16:

Seconds…

From MLive, 9/7/16:

Seconds after making his first tackle as a college football player, the former No. 1-ranked recruit in the country caught himself listening to more than 110,000 fans boom in unison shortly after public address announcer Carl Grapentine said the magic words.

"Brought down by Rashan Gary."

"That felt so good, I'm not going to lie to you," Gary said with a smile Tuesday evening. "When I made that tackle, and they said 'Rashan Gary' over the (loudspeaker) that was one of the greatest feelings I've ever felt.

"It felt so good. That's like the best feeling. I've never played in front of so many people and (heard) so many people have so much energy."

I would bet every person who has heard Carl Grapentine announce their name to that crowd has felt the same way.  I'd guess about 200 names per season.

07/11/2018 - 9:42pm Please don't denigrate…

Please don't denigrate wrestling that way.

03/18/2018 - 3:20pm Casey Cunningham?

If not Cael, how about trying to poach someone from his staff?

03/18/2018 - 10:33am Couldn't hurt to try...

gotta at least ask. Whoever the new coach is, it would help to have lots of strong PA and OH connections.

And, thanks to the silver fox for a great run!

03/06/2018 - 2:17pm Grandfather

My grandfather was on the Lexington.  His handwritten account can be found here: https://wp.me/p3RzvV-rZ

This is the first of 7 pages:

02/22/2018 - 12:06pm Ewww

Can't unsee.

02/16/2018 - 4:31pm Bleh

It's only February.

02/12/2018 - 8:57am Nope

There is not.

01/20/2018 - 12:29pm Best wishes to him

Every time a recruit picks OSU or Alabama over UM, it's obvious that he is not meant to be a Michigan man.  This may be definitionally true, but also the choices could not be more different, in many ways.  As soon as I heard TP say "THE University of Ohio State," I was relieved that he had made that choice (well, after I got done laughing).  It's not sour grapes to say that if the recruit really feels that Michigan is not the best fit, then it's not.

It's only a disappointment if it comes out later that they made their decision based on information that is incorrect, for whatever reason.

Good luck to him, and may he never experience a win over the wolverines.

11/29/2017 - 4:10pm Unless

Unless you start with the assumption that the Michigan datapoint is not from the same distribution.  In which case the average is 19.8, std dev 3.1, so average minus 3 sigma is 10.5.

11/23/2017 - 8:06am Thanks

Thanks for these one play one-on-ones. The questions really clarify how the game "slows down" for the players. The description of the tackling process almost lets you feel it, as Don Brown might say.

11/14/2017 - 12:20pm MAGA hats

Are there photos of the players in MAGA hats yet?  Or the Ball family?

11/13/2017 - 2:49pm Great!

Happy for all the healing going on!  Great news for WS.

11/10/2017 - 8:06am Total Domination

It wasn't the opponent, or the score, or the players.  It was being comfortably in charge for the entire game.  There was no chance I could leave the room and come back 5 minutes later to find Michigan had lost the lead.  I expect (or at least hope for) a handful of games that feel this way each season.  This has been the first this year.  After playing such close games against so many inferior opponents, it was highly satisfying to totally dominate.

11/06/2017 - 12:42pm Also the "NO CHASE" photo

The other players in the photo look concerned.

11/05/2017 - 7:35pm Ugh

That would be horrible.

10/29/2017 - 5:26pm This exactly.

It's hard to imagine how one might even make a comparison. It does imply that the top criteria are football related. But whatever that process looks like, best wishes to him!

10/25/2017 - 11:53am Sweet

Can't wait to see these guys compete with Penn State.

10/02/2017 - 12:12pm Love this!

Thanks for posting these pics.

09/25/2017 - 5:20pm That's crazy.

Seems like a safety issue for Purdue players, too. How can there be no ambulance on site? What if someone in the crowd has a heart attack or heat stroke? Or did all the people inyellow park their minivans nearby?

09/18/2017 - 8:06pm Great!

Congratulations to the wrestling team and to the young man.

09/18/2017 - 12:12pm great idea

Thank you!

09/18/2017 - 12:11pm Conversely

I will be mad that one of them won.

09/09/2017 - 5:44pm Oops

Double

09/09/2017 - 5:43pm Me too!

Best way to listen to Brock Huard is not to.

09/07/2017 - 7:05pm No

Never. Under no circumstance.

08/01/2017 - 12:19pm Not simple

True.  But the current Title IX system too often results in false, or even worse, partly-true accusations resulting in substantial pain and cost to the accused.  No number of wrongs can make a right.

07/17/2017 - 2:17pm Hahaha!

I think even Penn State fans get sick of that one!

I would add another sound, and it's a "feel" also, when the horses fly by at a steeplechase race.  Or any turf race.

07/17/2017 - 2:11pm Yes!

This is the most Cleveland thing ever.  And the flats still look like a scooby doo ghost town.

07/16/2017 - 9:39pm Glad to hear he's for real

Agree it's PSU again. But glad to hear Silvia can live up to the hype. You just never know with kids from less wrestling-intensive states.

06/16/2017 - 8:40am Exactly

Very best wishes to him.  Finding the best fit is far more important to the individual than it is to the institution.

04/05/2017 - 8:15am Will be missed

John was also a football fanatic.  He coached the women's IM team for MMB back in the day and kept meticulous stats.  He also starred as Professor Brown in the band's Back to the Future show.  As noted above, he was incredibly talented and hard working, as well as fun and kind and genuine.

03/28/2017 - 5:18pm Big House

Grew up in PA, during the JoePa heyday, but I wanted to go to a better school and to the Rose Bowl, and loved the campus on my visit.  Felt like home.  The real game changer was walking into the big house for the first time.  There's just nothing like it.

03/19/2017 - 9:46am Good

Good observations but it can all change by next year. Especially with freshmen. If we can avoid injury we should be in contention next year.

02/27/2017 - 12:13pm Harbaugh's assistant

Would love to watch it all happen up close.  Plus would know (or find out) where to get the best fresh whole milk at every B1G school.

02/07/2017 - 12:10pm Dual outcome = two teams

Duals means that the results are measured on the score of one team versus another.  So "team duals" is a tournament where entire teams wrestle.  Most tournaments (including NCAA) are individual tournaments, with teams assigned points for individual outcomes.  Here in PA HS wrestling there are team championships and individual championships, and by using the individual points a team will also come out of the individual championships with the most points. These are rarely the same teams.  In NCAA tournament, this is how the team champion is decided.

By definition, all the matches of one team versus one other team are duals.

01/30/2017 - 9:13am Yes, Wrestling >= Football at many schools in PA

Last year nearly 20% of NCAA qualifiers came from PA alone.  Almost half from PA plus states that border PA.

01/06/2017 - 10:53am A shot of

A shot of penis-cillin?

12/30/2016 - 12:41pm Us too

We let the 5 year old name it. "Kitty."

12/30/2016 - 8:42am UConn women's basketball

4th consecutive championship, top 3 WNBA draft picks, win streak still ongoing.  Pretty dominant and impressive no matter who you root for.

11/28/2016 - 3:31pm Yes this

A statistical analysis would be telling and also unbiased.

11/21/2016 - 9:55am Yep I saw it too

He's going to be a great dad someday.

11/10/2016 - 6:23pm Agreed

Still smarts.

10/10/2016 - 8:59pm Simpsons

Simpsons already did it.
