Plus 1. Succinct.

10/31/2018 - 3:37pm I think you meant egregious…

I think you meant egregious. Bad spelling is never okay either, although I do take your point on hypocrisy.

But what sports fan isn’t a bit hypocritical?

10/25/2018 - 10:59am Maybe the fellas could work…

Maybe the fellas could work with State and Liberty to do this. They make high quality athletic fit clothing and are owned by 2 M alums, including former hockey player Lee Moffie. Golden fits me better but I understand the sentiment. State and Liberty. Check them out online!

disclaimer: I am not affiliated!

07/19/2018 - 10:22pm And I think South High would…

And I think South High would have played home games in Uncle Jerry’s day at South Field, located on Madison south of Wealthy. Ford no doubt would have played at Houseman Field as well, in away games against Central and Creston and, possibly, Catholic Central.

06/15/2018 - 4:57pm Tony Boles was incredible…

Tony Boles was incredible. Absolutely top 5. That injury was gruesome and heartbreaking.

03/01/2018 - 8:17pm Jai Alai is delicious

I brought a bunch back from Florida.

They have a limited edition “White Oak Aged” version out in a white can. IMO it adds little to the original, and I wouldn’t bother with it.

I think I will drink a Jai Alai right now.

02/22/2018 - 7:49pm Hmm

Nice use of “iniquity”

02/08/2018 - 9:17pm In any event

Good luck to all - I hope it’s the usual overhype and not the real deal.

02/08/2018 - 9:15pm Fortunately

It was also not necessary for most of my career. Words, man, words.

02/08/2018 - 6:23pm Oops

Low 72. Math is hard.

02/08/2018 - 6:22pm Thanks, but we are safe.

Picked a good couple of weeks to be in the Keys. High 79, low 82 all week. Glad I just retired!

02/05/2018 - 4:28pm Understood

Been there. Especially with a young family. Hope you have a great trip - Go Blue!

02/05/2018 - 3:46pm Stay at a downtown hotel if you can swing it.

I have stayed recently at the MGM and the Doubletree and both were very good. It was easy to either walk places or get an Uber. Doubletree is close to Campus Martius I believe.

IMO that is the way to experience Detroit instead of heading to the soulless suburbs and an airport hotel.

Caveat: can be pricey and parking ain’t cheap. Cheaters tip: park at a casino ramp for free and Uber to hotel.

01/29/2018 - 2:07pm No can do

But appreciate the offer. Very generous, and sounds like a great outing, but I am too far away.

Another bald man of a certain age

01/23/2018 - 2:49pm Too many signatures needed

Yep, they are subject to recall, but the number of signatures needed to recall a statewide office holder is prohibitive without a very well-funded backer.

01/23/2018 - 2:41pm I was wrong

In a thread the other day I called Mitch Lyons the worst of the bunch. But he is actually at least smart enough ( or a good enough politician) to call for new leadership, so he is clearly not the worst of the bunch. Reading these comments from Ferguson makes it pretty hard not to bestow that title on old Joel.

Remember to vote on these offices in the years to come. Don’t forget the bottom of the ballot!

01/18/2018 - 8:20pm No primary for these seats

They are nominated at party conventions. I guess this means voting for the Democrat candidates. With the built-in advantage of incumbency, a vote for a minor party candidate wouldn’t help much.

01/18/2018 - 6:24pm Vote!

Let them know what you think at the next election. Don’t forget to get down to the bottom of the ballot and vote against the incumbents. And, yes, Mitch Lyons is the worst of the bunch.

01/18/2018 - 6:14pm Keep it up

We raised our kids in a suburb of Lansing and knew families with girls at Twistars. Our boys were friends with some of these girls, and they want to burn MSU down for this. Metaphorically.

09/14/2017 - 7:27pm Need proof

Pics of your wife at the game or it didn't happen.

04/14/2017 - 3:09pm Coincidence?

I also had a lot of Domino's pizza right around this same time period (1975 to 1981) and thought it was delicious. I also had usually smoked a lot of weed just before ordering pizza during those years. When I had only smoked a little weed, I was able to walk over to Pizza Bob's.

02/21/2017 - 2:12pm Late starts

I hate 9:00 starts and will not go to a game that starts so late. But I am old. That is all.

02/16/2017 - 2:12pm Interesting

What does the Mrs. think when she wakes up and finds your pants are off?

01/24/2017 - 3:21pm agreed

Perhaps this should have been in a Festivus thread, but I agree. What really pisses me off is when they air a game that is being played in the Central time zone at 7 and then air a game at Crisler at 9. I think BTN has done this at least once this year. I am old and have to get up early. And I am on a diet and really, really want a cookie.

01/06/2017 - 10:24am This is silly

OP is talking about crootins. They make any salad better, IMO.

10/15/2016 - 12:39pm Craft show

Helping her sell mittens at a craft show. Do I win?

08/12/2016 - 12:58pm But I want him to be on team USA

Doesn't that count?

Plus, I don't read good.

08/12/2016 - 12:12pm Track still to come

Usain Bolt, anyone?

08/11/2016 - 4:09pm Essentially true

Some of this is a bit hyperbolic, but the essence of it is pretty much correct.

Also, pay and benefits for new public school teachers in Michigan are nowhere near what they were or what some politicians would lead you to believe.

08/11/2016 - 4:05pm Michigan noncertified teaching

If you want to go straight to the law in Michigan, look up MCL 380.1233 for the general law on teaching cerificates and then see MCL 380.1233b for exceptions for ceratin subjects. Essentially, it allows a public school to employ a noncerticated individual to teach in grades 9 to 12 in  math, computer science, biology, chemistry, physics, robotics or other shoratge areas as long as teh individual is enrolled in a program leading to certification. Also, the recent reform legislation for DPS allows DPS to hire nonceritifcated teachers. See MCL 380.1233c. Maybe Cass Tech has some need?

Generally speaking, Michigan law requires nonpublic schools to employ certificated teachers to the same extent as public schools.

The state legislature's website is a good simple place to look up MCL sections online.

I can't speak to the job market, and it is possible that some districts would not realize that they could hire a noncertificated teacher. As another poster mentioned, it is possble that districts won't do it anyway because of the "highly qualified" teacher provisions in No Child Left Behind. However, with your wife's qualifications and experience, if anyone could do it in Michigan it would seem to be her.

Did a tour this afternoon on HandleBar pedal pub in downtown Detroit. That was a blast!

07/17/2015 - 10:37pm Actually saw Soupy do stand

Actually saw Soupy do stand up at a comedy club in GR in early 80s. He was profane, obnoxious, and hilarious. It was awesome. It was like seeing Bob Saget stand up after Full House

Also shows you are from Southeast Mi. We didn't have Soupy on the west side of the state

07/15/2015 - 12:27pm 1970 Camaro

Learned to drive a stick on my Dad's 1970 Camaro, which I bought from him for my first car in 1975. Drove it until 1984, when the floor was so rusted out you could see the road in spots. Drove it to Florida with a Michigan buddy in 1978. That car was so low and wide that my favorite thing was to accelerate into turns - that freaked people out. No power steering and not even rack-and-pinion, so parallell parking on Sybil Street in a tight spot was a challenge. Great car, except it was a shade of baby-shit green that never should have been used on a vehicle.

Wild turkey tenderloin with jalapeños and cream cheese wrapped in bacon and grilled.

05/19/2015 - 3:44pm It took me a long time to

It took me a long time to reply becuase I forgot how to get on this interweb thing. Damn it!

05/19/2015 - 10:38am Absolutely

I agree with Magnus 100% on this

05/19/2015 - 10:36am I am 57 years old

and this kind of stuff is exactly why I like to read through the comments. I don't lnow what this says about my maturity level, but well-done!

05/14/2015 - 3:23pm 1977

M 14, OSU 6. I was on the field after the game, and suddenly there were all these people swarming toward me in roughly a u shape, and I was inside the U. Took me a second, but I realized it was the goalpost being carried toward me and I had to turn and sprint out of the middle and around the edge to avoid a trampling. Was actually kind of scary, mostly because I ain't and never was fast. On the way out of teh stadium I grabbed a nice blue folding chair that was on the field and carried it out past all the cops and everyone ese. Still have it. Was also there for Indiana in 79 but don't remember it as clearly, just remember AC's touchdown.

05/13/2015 - 8:03am Jackson Browne

Fountain of Sorrow, The Pretender, and a whole bunch more.

04/16/2015 - 2:53pm It's ok

I sleep very soundly. I'm pretty sure nothing happens while I sleep and that none of you people exist except when I see you. I am a lot like a dog.

04/16/2015 - 11:23am She is clever, that one

Thank you. Her Michigan degree helps, but a lot of innate craftiness. We can't even drive by that statue, it makes her too furious. I know I must hate Ohio, and we do with a passion, but when you live among the Sparties it stokes those fires like you woudln't believe.

04/16/2015 - 10:20am might have been my wife

she has been wanting to do that ever since we moved to Lansing 30 years ago.

04/15/2015 - 1:29pm I have never taken it,

but if I were to take it, I'm sure I would get at least a 38.

04/10/2015 - 8:51pm Gin

Having a gin and gin. Been a long week.

04/01/2015 - 12:40pm Bad dog!!

You rascal!

03/28/2015 - 8:10pm Me too

I really don't understand the hate for Bucky. To me, they are our kindred spirits. They really have a lot in common with Michigan. That said, I love it when our teams beat them.

03/13/2015 - 4:21pm Why not?

They wear hats, too.

03/13/2015 - 11:17am Quinn and Tuiites is great

Love Conor's as well. And by the way, Grand Rapids has at least 20 people
