Someone got it :-)

11/18/2017 - 1:39pm “We Are The Wolverines”

That quote was my nod to Pop Evil. One of my pregame rituals is to pump up to that song.

Nice job with the parenthetical comments on the lyrics :-)

10/14/2017 - 8:22pm Today’s hotel story

I went to the game with my friend Mike from Cincinnati. Our plan was to go in for the game and return this evening. On the way, Mike unhelpfully drove to Indianapolis rather than Bloomington as we were chatting. I marveled as he maneuvered his Porsche Panamera GTS* on back roads to get us to the game on time. We got to the stadium area just before kickoff but there was no place to park. We saw no signs for parking - not one. A cop told us to drive four miles south to a parking lot and take a shuttle. We headed south but were dubious. Mike pulled into a Super 8 and was prepared to pay for a room so we could park there, but hesitated to pay the $200 fee just for a parking space. The sympathetic desk clerk let us park there anyway and we hoofed the mile and a half to the stadium.

That may have been the best Super 8 experience ever.

*Mike is by far my most successful friend. And a really down to earth guy.

10/07/2017 - 2:51pm Little Brother's Poster

Can you post a pic? Would love to see it!

Yeah, we gotta knock the swagger out of Sparty.

09/23/2017 - 2:05pm Night Gallery

After Twighlight Zone went off the air, Rod Serling hosted sort of the same kind of show called "Night Gallery." My reference was to one of the more memorable episodes, "The Boy Who Predicted Earthquakes."

09/23/2017 - 2:04pm Clarification and response to #29 et al .. "taking glee" comment

My day job is a civil rights lawyer fighting for workers. I fully comprehend the devastation that corporate decision-making, and bankruptcies, often wreak on workers and their families. My point was bafflement at the bizarro-world that rewards failure. I take no glee in job loss. Cut me a little literary license/schadenfreude slack here!

Brandon said he won't close stores, and I hope he's right. Chapter 11 is a reorganization that allows them to keep operating. He needs all the cash flow he can get to pay down those debts. I just don't understand how people like him keep getting rewarded.

09/16/2017 - 2:48am Thank you EGD

for the education!

.... or should I say "warning?"

09/02/2017 - 6:04pm This is why he slept in a tree ...

... to recruit this beast!

02/25/2017 - 9:08pm Thanks ...

... who else redshirted this year? Maybe Austin Davis? Anyone else?

02/25/2017 - 8:41pm Dakich

Anybody know why he didn't get his senior moment at the end of the game, especially with Pops here broadcasting for ESPN?

11/19/2016 - 3:18pm It was the security lock

... it somehow flipped open when we left for the game. I tried to go back in for my phone charger but the door only opened 2 inches, then hit the security plate, and stopped. I alerted the front desk person as we were leaving for the game, fully expecting it would be taken care of when we returned. However, although they have a simple tool to take care of this problem, they apparently neither had it available, nor the maintenance person, nor a manager on duty to authorize getting a sawzall from the local hardware store, so they gave us three separate rooms where we had nothing but the clothes on our back. They comped everything, paid for a meal, and send me some gift cards, apologizing profusely the entire time. It was a very nice hotel, and I will omit the name of the chain because they did step up after screwing up.

11/12/2016 - 12:27pm I missed out too!

J., I tweet/taunted Silver with #twosixtynine in the primary season, after looking it up and seeing no prior use. I should have been more proactive and jumped on it then! Ah well.

10/22/2016 - 1:18pm I Stand Corrected!

I bow to your superior fact checking, Alton. Thank you for educating me.

I was also wrong on the spread, which is in the 38-40 range!

10/09/2016 - 7:43am Wow

Wonder what the "skeptical" prediction will be for Illinois? And can either one of us in good conscience predict a Spartan victory in three weeks?

09/18/2016 - 11:53pm Lucy GoBlue

Ha, You've got some mad photoshop skills!

09/11/2016 - 8:02am West Coast Wolverine - Roumel relatives

Probably not related to you, Harry, Ted and Nick. Most Greek Roumels shortened their name from Roumeliotis (as I did). It's not an uncommon name. I grew up in PIttsburgh and there are no Roumel(iotis) left there. There is a Roumell (two ls) clan in Michigan, lots of lawyers as I am, but despite also being Roumeliotises we are not related either.

There is an unrelated Nick Roumel in Chicago, and I kept accidentally getting his email, and we ended up being friends on Linked In.

Thanks for asking, hope you see this!

02/25/2016 - 12:43pm What was up with NW's half court shot?

With about 1:07 left in the game, I was only half watching, someone from NW heaved a half court shot. Did he think it was :07 left? Was the shot clock down? Was it a Harlem Globetrotter trick? i can't find reference to it in any news story...

11/14/2015 - 12:30pm Vera

11/14/2015 - 11:50am Nighthawks at the Diner is a classic!

(n/t)

11/14/2015 - 11:49am Yes and it sparked an NCAA rule change.

But it was legal then to fumble purposefully out of bounds to stop the clock...

11/14/2015 - 11:48am Big Joe!

Mr. Simon is a good friend and one of the best criminal defense attorneys around. Everyone in his firm is top notch.

10/03/2015 - 11:26am Bashful Driver syndrome?

I was actually a pretty good golfer then. I'd never whiffed in my life and then did it twice in a row. I was totally freaked out by all those people watching!

10/03/2015 - 11:23am It's all good, BL...

Plenty of room under this  Maize 'n' Blue  tent.

Go Blue!

09/19/2015 - 8:52pm I have only 49 points and

... yet I write a weekly column during the season.

At this rate I'll have 500 MGoPoints by 2050.

09/19/2015 - 8:40pm Absolutely remember Ryne Duren

But thanks for posting that article. I hadn't realized how his career spiraled southward with his drinking.

I think he was the inspiration for "Wild Thing," Charlie Sheen's character in Major League.

So I did consider Duren, as well as "Wild Thing" for my cultural reference, before settling on Dock Ellis. I am sensitive to the average age of readers on this blog (in fact just saw Brian's survey in that regard, vast majority in their 20's, then 30's), and I was a small child for Ryne's career, so I went with something that would have more familiarity.

Not that a lot of my cultural references still aren't head scratchers. Today it was Fellini's movie "Amarcord."

Appreciate the feedback.

09/19/2015 - 6:03pm one mystery solved

I'm impressed that you know that, Mizo.

Still don't know the significance of the faculty ID card.

09/19/2015 - 11:03am By 2009 ...

... the wave was an adult with two kids, in his second career, in the throes of a midlife crisis, and driving a Maize and Blue convertible.

09/19/2015 - 10:18am Yes EGD!

I was remembering the movie in general - what a bonus that the movie poster was also so spot-on.

09/12/2015 - 10:19am Thanks "Twice!"

...

09/12/2015 - 10:00am I missed it on a correction

Ha! I knew it was '97 - I'm not that senile yet. I originally had 1998 Rose Bowl as the highlight and changed it to the undefeated season but forgot to change the year.... thanks for catching the error .... not sure if Brian can make the correction at this juncture.

01/24/2015 - 4:23pm beautiful story

very moving, well done.

11/23/2014 - 9:07pm Thanks W2 but...

No joy in a loss to Maryland ....

11/22/2014 - 1:52pm Thanks Don

That piece blew me away when someone played it for me in college. To that point, I basically listened to album rock. Then I heard Gil and my jaw just dropped. Whitey on the Moon was another. Yes - Gil is still relevant.

10/04/2014 - 2:19pm From the 9/24/13 Michigan Daily

(after Brandon took over the Athletic Dept.) "After an initial reduction of staff from 275 to 190 upon replacing Bill Martin, the former athletic director, the number of department employees has expanded to 308." That's a purge of 85 people - and a change of 0/275 that he hired to 118/308 being his own hires in just four years.

10/04/2014 - 2:10pm That's the toughest one to give up.

Which means its the most meaningful statement. Thanks, BlueHills.

11/16/2013 - 1:32pm Nafplio, Greece

There is an old fortress overlooking the Aegean and you climb over 1000 steps. My daughter and I were taking photos of each other mimicing a toy monster she had. (my more normal profile pick is from that same photo shoot). I was wearing my #7 jersey. I have to lean towards Ricky to rock that one, over Chad Henne, Chris Floyd, and that guy who played for a while in Columbus.

08/18/2013 - 10:06pm I don't normally read interviews but

The questions were good, the answers were respectful and he seems like he'd be a great kid to have in the locker room. Confident and thoughtful but not boastful. Not a chance in hell he's coming to Michigan, though. Didn't even know whether he was coming for an official visit?

02/06/2013 - 2:20pm Craft's Foul on Robinson and the noise level

(1) What I saw was Craft look upcourt, see the breakaway, then turn to Robinson and cold cock him. I firmly believe he did that on purpose to stop the breakaway dunk. If the refs have the guts to blow the whistle there to stop the game winning basket, then they should have had the guts to get the call right and call it intentional and/or flagrant.

Maybe the subsequent late no-call on Craft was their way of making it up, but the no-call for such light contact was consistent with their officiating the whole game.Did you see Motta put that giant #30 on Burke for a few minutes? I think he did so for the very purpose of hammering Trey into submission, after realizing how lax the game was being called.

That being said, Craft's a hell of a competitor and a great defender.

(2) As season ticket holder since the first year of the Fab Five, the crowd last night was enthusiastic early but generally subdued at many key spots down the stretch as OSU frustrated us time and time again in the second half. It has been, and can get, much more electric.

02/03/2013 - 11:47pm Mike and Johnny Robinson

I worked at the old IM building in the 70's and recall Johnny Robinson and his brother Mike often playing pickup games. I was trying to convince "Punt" that Robinson's brother was on the team at one point and he doubted me - now I have found this thread to prove him wrong (which gives me great pleasure).

Does anyone recall if they were twins?

I know Johnny passed away recently.

01/01/2013 - 9:49pm although

I realize that is completely lame to take GmoMie into bars.

01/01/2013 - 9:49pm GnoMie ...

... he is not even in the honorable mention category of embarrassing M paraphernalia! Also if you take him into bars with you, girls will kiss him for luck. Try doing that with your telepathic dog driver cover.

11/10/2012 - 4:38pm Eloquence inspired by victory.

You've captured the collision of arbitrary events and raw emotion very well.

10/27/2012 - 3:06pm Read again ...

... perhaps I wasn't as clear as I could have been. My point was it would have been convincing had the game ended there, without  WSU's final 80 yards (77 plus the three they got back after the penalty) and the scary ending. You are correct that after all that, it was not a convincing victory.

10/27/2012 - 3:02pm True.

The Valverde part was an inside joke with Brian. I agree he needs a break. I don't want him to have a Donnie Moore moment and I don't think Leyland will put him in a key spot anymore.

10/27/2012 - 11:55am Ken, you ignorant Punt.

Michigan does not have 10-12 home games per year. Our consecutive sellout streak goes back to 1975, a total of 37 years. Then again, math was never your strong suit.

09/08/2012 - 8:20pm Only in MGoBlog ...

... would I find the word "Ezeh-esque."

And the last sentence was solid. Cold, but solid. Like an ice cube.
