My son is 13 and he plays football

I can honestly say that I see a change in him. He is going to be a freshman in H.S this comming Sept. He has played since 6th grade. I can see what he is learning...he first played because his friends were playing...He now plays because he wants to play. I dont try coaching him because that is his coaches job. He works out everyday without any proding along with running track.

What he has told me: "football is like a clock, every moving part is important and all moving parts must opperate as intended in order for a play to work"

When I asked him why he is working out so much he responded " I want to be the strongest link on my team"

I cant argue with that.

and If I can upvote you I would.

that is all.

Working on locking down Ann Arbor

We will be at our new location. South U and S.State this comming August :)

Introduced to the Beastie Boys

Slow and Low back in 86. Love this one and No sleep till BKLYN!

When they first came out

I did not think they were going to last, especially when 3rd Base hit. Im glad they did. Classic music!

We set up on Hoover

Where the band collects. (Red tents)..We are normally set up by 8:00 serving our students who get an "early start" on the day. Im out there looking for Brian but he never comes around our parts I guess.

Expect

Us serving these At 9:00am in the morning

And a Victory!

GO BLUE!

Ever since the spring game..

My son told me he needed to be a "big play maker" if he is wearing number 16.

YAHTZEE!!!

We have a winner folks! I totally agree with JD_UofM_90!

Guys/Gals

If you walk down Hoover street on your way to the game. We, No.9 as well as other vendors, sell cold water for one dollar. The same bottle of water is going to cost you $3.00 in the stadium. Hey, I am all for making money but I dont believe you should rob people blind!.. come'on...$3.00 for a bottle of water!!!!

The only security issue here is the security of their dollars. s

If they were so concerned about you, they would GIVE you a bottle of cold water for FREE if you asked for it, not a @!%# cup. Especally with the price of a ticket these days!, Also, where is all of this "free" water comming from, is it filtered. I have lived in Ann Arbor for MANY years, Ann arbor does not have the best dringing water from tap.

Although I do groove on JB

I was actually listening to the EMPD instumental version 1989.

If you listen to this version then look at the picture it will see to folw toghether.

And the other

Enjoy

I posted both pictures for anyone to use as they wish. The MgoBlog fam is pretty cool so concider this my contribution

Enjoy

The team!

I think of our team as a machine...one unit. Each part of that machine is an important as the other and all must perform to specs..special team pieces, starting pieces, depth pieces. All parts are critical to our success as a team.

GO BLUE

IMO

If there hand looks like that, they should not be serving food period.

The reason they have all these food codes....

...because somebody, somewhere, and some point and time did something REAL stupid!

Never had one healthcode violation

Knock on wood!

Its so hot

I saw a racoon picking up acorns with pot holders!

Lets call it what it is.

You said "Poor folks in the south had to learn how to eat everything they could...so they have recipes for pigs feet, chicken feet, chicken livers, chicken neck, etc."

I think you may be getting things a bit mixed up. Pig fee, pig ears, pig intestines (Chitterlins) was given to the Slave because it was seen as unfit to eat. So they did the best with what they were given.

Chicken Livers and gizards were used for holiday stuffing (even today)

Note: you must clean chitterlins before you cook them. Pigs feet, Ears and skins...must be held over an open fire to burn the corse hair off of them.

I make my own marinade.

Remember, BBQ is low and slow with indirect heat.

Items you will need.

Charcoal Grill: Webber or Green egg. Not so much for the name, but look for something with a dome design that you can control the air flow from the bottom and top of your unit.

Charcoal: Hardwood lump charcoal. It is much more stable than briquettes for a heat source.  If you need them to, they also burn hotter. It is also easier to incorporate other hardwoods for flavor.

I can provide more info but it all depends on how serious you are about your BBQ.

Who else has ever "jerked" the machine?

This involved taping a thin string (sweing string) to a case quarter and slowly lowering the quarter in the machine while still holding on to the string.

Once you would hear the quarter register, you would keep pulling the string back to let it register again until you had an insaine amount of credits, you pull the string and the quarter drops in.

If you got away with it...you played like a king, if you got caught you were kicked out, banned from that place for a very long time!, sometimes worse!

good times, good times!

Who remembers the unspoken

Who remembers the unspoken rules of  vido game etiquette?

I remember spending countless quarters at the pizza shop

and this..the first cheat book,

Hey! I take offense to that

I grew up in Marcy Projects (Bed Stuy) and I made it out just fine....I think...(twich, twich) /sarcasm.

I agree with what you are saying but

I give him a choice. I never played football so I dont care one way or the other if he plays. I stress academics above all else. I would rather him find the cure to cancer than play in the NFL.

I also let him know that it does not matter if it is sports or academics, the competition is fierce and always there so he has to prepare to compeat in anything he chooses. So there is work involved.

As a parent of a child that age that plays football

As a parent I show up and stay for every pratice. Quietly in my lawn chair. But since you asked I do have some ideas.

Chalk Talk! Chalk Talk! Chalk Talk...just as important as field time. My son is a RB that ran out of a spread offence at age 10. The major issue was the front line. It not that the kids did not know HOW to block, it was knowing WHO to block and in what direction to block.

Every kid is important to the team. If they miss their assignment the whole play can get blown up. Everyone is a moving part of one machine. Every kid has 24 hrs...what they do with that time is what will seperate them from everyone else.

Coaching I give my kid (reasons why I am not a coach)
Dont waste my time or yours...when you get on that field or any field..leave everything on the field.

I paid the the oppertuntiy for him to play...he must earn the right to play or he sits the bench...as it should be.

You cant show up to August pratice and expect to "get in shape"
There is no such thing as the off season .

Note: Football and Track and Field go hand and hand

100 push ups and 100 sit-ups daily. (not old enough for weights)

M,W,F Track (10) 60m sprints, after that is done 400m, 300m,200m,100m sprints with 3min rest in between.

T,Th speed ladder, cone and ball handling drills.

After that is done 3 60m sprints on empty German sled on the grass.

My son started playing football last year

my 2 cents

On the 1's and 2's

I will preface this with this statement: I don’t know much about football. Adding to that, I don’t know if this has been brought up. There has been a lot of talk about how Denard is practicing with the 1st offence and second defense and Tate vice-versa. On the face of it, one can look at this and say Denard has made some strides and Tate has fallen off a bit.

I may be wrong but this sounds like a smart move. If you put DR with the first offence and the second defense, it slows the defense down so DR gets used to
1. Reading the defense (in a slower pace than the first defense)...maybe.
2. Learning to make the decision to hand off , run or throw the ball

Tate the exact opposite, he would have to think quicker with a ( presumably slower offence) and quicker defense. He would have to make decisions faster and get out of trouble more that if he was protected by the 1's

Just a thought

Or The Art of War

On the field of battle
When you are far, make them think you are near.
When you are Near, make them think you are far.

I have a Ford Van (Cargo)

655,471 miles. Some cars you luck out on...some you dont.

Thats why I look to the coaches

When running drills, the coaches should be able to see what a kid can and cant do. They kid...alot of times dont know what they can and cant do until put in a position to perform.

I feared my son would not know how to hit so...

I made a leap of faith and brought him his own gear..helmet...pads etc. (figured I could resell it) I also bought a heavy bag. I showed him the right ways to get low and "wrap up". Had him run full speed into the heavy bag repeatedly so he would get used to taking somthing down that weighed more than he did and the cracking sound of pads.

Once he got used to it...he loved the contact! Doing it when it was raining and muddy helped with having fun with it.

My son is 11 and started playing last year

I took him to his "two a days" had the coach look at what he could do and how he would help the team.

When all was said and done, they had him starting at RB, FB and ILB.

Im not a coach and know enough about football to be dangerous and dont want to tell them how to do their job.

Long and short of it, if you trust the coaches judgement...let the coaches decide the best fit.

Thanks!

Got the email...will let you know how it turns out

I appreciate all of the input!

We may even show up for the spring game...maybe do something with the mgoblog community.

My grandmother opened a small...

I would love the recipe if you wanted to pass it on. I will make sure to protect it. You can email me at [email protected]

It seems that anything fried is a good bet?

Right now, I have a deep fried apple pie in development. I had to take one for the team and gain 5lb doing it. I always have to remember to let it sit for about 20 minutes because its like biting into molten lava.

So if everyone had their choice...

Would it be wings, fries or O-rings

The only bad thing...

is I have to pick one thing because I cant have...lets say...fries that taste like Oreos, thats just nasty.

Fried Chicken sounds like a good idea

I have my Grandmothers recipe from South Carolina. I'll have to do some testing to see if I can mix the old school with the new. "Buffalo wing sauce". Fried veggies also sound good.

I understand...

I am from the projects (Marcy Projects) BKNY. I know what these kids see, I know the challenges and still it is not enough to help by talking to them. So how did I do it?
1. Being poor sucks so...I could either use it as a motivator or a crutch...I saw the results of the ladder on a daily basis and chose to use it as a motivator.
2. I knew these were my options, Sell drugs/Death, Prison or School. Choosing school will give the opportunity to be successful and I would not have to watch my back.

Lessons I teach my kids
On life:
Nobody owes you anything; (not even me as their parent) if you want something...work for it.
I’m not here to be their friend or their buddy, I’m their father. My job.. to give them the lessons of survival, tools to be productive members of society and to push them to go further than I went.

On School
Good grades are like keys. These key are keys that open the door of opportunity. Get enough bad grades...you may lose your keys. Bottom line, it is better to have many keys that open the door of THEIR choice...not have only one key left and they have no choice.

They have a job and that is being a student. They have to get as much from their teachers in the short amount of time that they have with that teacher is possible. Homework reinforces what you did in the classroom; Studying is when you make the knowledge yours. When you fail to study you only cheat yourself. If their teacher is not doing their job, the teacher and I will have a problem, If my kids are not doing their job...well...they have a problem with me.

Education is the only way out. But it hard to get this message across to someone who is in “survival mode”

+1 to you Bouje

I cram to understand it!

I guess I am just getting old

But didn't these guys realize how lucky they were?...and to throw it all away doing some outlandish stuff...all in an effort to “keep it real”. I just don’t understand.

Wow...This is what happens when you post without all the facts..

I did not know that this was the second time there was a crew of people that did this. It is my falult for not checking.

"The first time a group of his guys posse’d up and set out to knock some heads (off the field), Dantonio was not really accountable. The second time a group of his guys posse’d up, probably the exact same group, sorry Dantonio takes heat for that."

Thankful

I am thankful for the health and well being of my family, thankful for the roof over our heads and the food we eat. ..and no...I don’t mean burgers (laughing)

Michigan

comes out to play like they've got nothing to loose. Michigan wins.
