No, he's still interested in WSU--and is visiting Pullman this weekend. FWIW, CougCenter thinks Houston is the favorite to get him, though having Roy Manning at WSU helps the Cougs.

06/05/2015 - 1:43am Yes

According to his Scout profile, he was offered and visited in September 2007. He would commit to WSU later that month, but remember that was back when Tony Bennett was WSU's coach, pre-Ken Bone.

05/10/2015 - 9:44pm Not only did that building

Not only did that building not exist then, but my friend who works there and sent this to me was in elementary school in 1998.

Sorry had trouble with uploading it

05/09/2015 - 1:05am I lived in Pasadena for 3

I lived in Pasadena for 3 years, so that'd be my vote. Still my favorite place I've ever lived. Very expensive, but most places in the LA area are. Reasonably close to everything: 35 minutes from Chino (and you're against traffic each way if memory serves), 15 from downtown, 45 from Anaheim, 60 from Newport Beach/OC.

My sister lived in Claremont while she went to CGU and now lives in Irvine. Claremont is definitely a nice place, but it's quiet, so if you're looking for more things to do Pasadena is probably better. Irvine wouldn't be a bad place if your wife gets something down in the OC.

Do you know where I could buy that picture? I would love to put it up in my new office!

04/21/2015 - 3:25am Not to nitpick but it

Not to nitpick but it was Shavodrick Beaver (not Shadovrick). I only remember this because, if memory serves, someone made a Shav'd Beaver t-shirt around the time he committed (and then decommmitted).

01/14/2015 - 12:22pm Turkey

The Ducks refuse to eat turkey on Thanksgiving. It started under Chip Kelly because he believed the tryptophan would weaken the Ducks on the football field. So apparently they wait until after the game near Thanksgiving to eat turkey. Instead, they eat crab on Thanksgiving (according to what I've read on The Oregonian and what I've heard from a friend who played for the Ducks).

01/07/2015 - 3:00am I live like 2 blocks from

I live like 2 blocks from that RR. Go PDX Wolverines!

11/28/2014 - 8:41pm True

He did technically win at his previous stops. 47 times. But he also lost 50. RR before and post Michigan is a wee bit better than that.

11/19/2014 - 11:57pm The tiny D3 college I went to

The tiny D3 college I went to is supposedly 438 points better than Alabama. Sure.

What's up my West Coasters? 2:00 am? More like 11 pm amirite?

11/03/2014 - 12:38am I have a buddy who was part

I have a buddy who was part of a Pac-12 staff for a few years, then he decided to try and network by spending a year traveling around the country visiting college basketball practices.

He also said that practice is very cerebral. Fewer reps, more thinking and understanding what's going on and what they're trying to accomplish. He also said they have their own terminology for basketball actions and areas of the floor. That's a little inside look from someone who has spent time at over 100 different colleges around the country looking at practices. As you can imagine, he said practices are very organized, and that Stauskas made it rain (shocking, I know). He said he personally saw Stauskas hit 47/50. It was fun to pick his brain about Michigan and other programs.

10/31/2014 - 12:37am "His classes rocked the star

"His classes rocked the star rankings"

I think you're thinking of Hoke. We called RichRod's recruits the 3 Star Mafia for a reason right?

(Per Scout)
RR (3 classes):
5* - 4
4* - 29
3* - 36
2* - 5

BH (4 classes):
5* - 6
4* - 40
3* - 40
2* - 1

I look at those and don't exactly think "RR's classes rocked the star rankings." Not bad, but his guys won a BCS game.

09/30/2014 - 2:30am In that sense...

I feel sort of bad for Hoke. He was set up to fail by his superior, and while Hoke should deservedly take some of the blame, it seems to me that this was a systemic failure which starts at the top.

09/22/2014 - 2:00am Thanks goodness.

I was checking back every few minutes while watching the Breaking Bad marathon. I now resume my regularly scheduled Sunday night MGoBlog reading.

06/16/2014 - 1:57am I know you got negged...

But you are right. I actually know someone else they contacted about the position (another D1 top 25 coach) and DB offered to double his salary. I wouldn't doubt Steinberg was offered the same thing to lure him from Malibu.

Either way, like OP said, it was a slam dunk hire. He has an incredible track record and he is (by all accounts I've heard) loved by his players and community. With the #4 recruiting class in the country coming in--plus returning four of their six starters in Petrone, Rossi, Sefan, and Wong--I'm excited to see what Steiney does. Incoming freshman Runhao Hua from China made it to the round of 16 at the 2014 Australian Open Jrs tournament, and Cameron Norrie is a leftie currently 638 in the world. Plus the other three American incoming freshmen are all top 50 recruits. Should be good times at the VTC in coming years.

01/09/2014 - 6:17pm I bet it took place

Somewhere between Decembeard and Januhairy.

12/31/2013 - 1:58am Agree with that

I feel like, as a special ed teacher too, that my answers would probably be different than most teachers. I didn't know whether to answer the question or leave some of the questions blank.

08/04/2013 - 2:36am Fellow Sounders supporter

Can't wait for our starting XI to be: Gsuprning, Yedlin, Traore, Hurtado, Evans, Alonso, Zakuani, Rosales, Dempsey, Johnson, Martins. Plus Neagle and Leo can add to the lineup in various ways. Can't wait to go to the Timbers game on Aug. 25.

07/27/2013 - 5:55pm Hello: George Campbell

https://twitter.com/GeorgeCampbell0/status/361242955182379008

06/14/2013 - 1:47pm Exactly

Just like Kelly Olynyk did at Gonzaga. Redshirted his junior season because he wouldn't get much playing time, then came back his RS Jr. year and dominated.

04/04/2013 - 5:35pm We went to the same high

We went to the same high school an his brother was my homeroom teacher my sophomore year. I used to watch him practice during the summers at a local college. Classy guy all the way around and always made time for people. It's cliche but true: he was one if the good guys in sports.

10/17/2012 - 5:05pm FWIW out here in Oregon it

FWIW out here in Oregon it seems like the Ducks are still the favorites to get him, but he just wants to look around and make sure. Can't really blame him for wanting to make sure. UCLA seems to be the main threat and word is that former Washington QB Marques Tuiasosopo, who is now on the UCLA staff, is the catalyst behind the decommitment. As some of you know, UW and Oregon are bitter rivals, so I'm sure Ducks fans are not thrilled to hear about this for a few reasons.

06/10/2012 - 1:02pm A set is to 6, win by two (so

A set is to 6, win by two (so 6-0 through 6-4). However if it's 6-5 that is not by two, so you can win a set 7-5. But if they tie it up at 6-6, you go to a tie breaker which is playing to 7 points (counting normally), win by two. The only time they don't play a tie breaker is in the 5th set at certain Grand Slams, where they play until someone goes up by too (see: Isner/Mahut at the 2010 Wimbledon).

06/07/2012 - 1:20am I studied for only about 48

I studied for only about 48 hours before the test, and focused on verbal strategies and math with a Kaplan book.

Just FYI though, not sure if you know this (you probably do, but I didn't): they changed the scoring system not too long ago, so when numbers in the 160s showed up, I thought I had failed miserably. Turns out it's out of 170 now in each section. Crisis averted, but for about three hours I was freaking out.

01/26/2012 - 12:55am Fed's backhand

This match boils down to tactics, adjustments, and Federer's backhand. Against Del Po, Federer was obviously trying to pick on Del Po's backhand. Fed was realling opening up the court by running around his BH when he could and putting his inside-out FH's cross-court. This kept Del Po from hitting his monster FH, pulled Del Po off the court (opening up the court for Fed), and lastly, kept Del Po off balance.

Nadal moves much better than Del Po, so Fed will have to expect more balls coming back. But the match will probably come down to how well Fed can pull Rafa off the court in a similar way and exploit that by cranking his one-handed BH up the line. If Fed gets down early, I wouldn't be surprised to see him step inside the baseline and take the ball earlier, and then follow a few balls in to try and end the points earlier--though it's dangerous if he follows the wrong ball in, since Rafa has some of the best passers in the game.

Should be a fun match, though I'm dissapointed I won't be able to see it because it's so late (I live on the west coast) and I don't have DVR. Also I have Sharapova over Kvitova.

11/30/2011 - 4:44pm Ever since Leach was

Ever since Leach was reportedly on the sidelines for the spring game last year, he has been rumored to replace Wulff. I guess Leach and WSU AD Bill Moos (former Oregon AD who served there until 2007) must be good friends. Bellotti was also rumored for the WSU gig, but it looks like Leach is their guy. It makes sense: the Cougs return virtually eveyone off this year's injury-ridden team that was one special teams blunder (SD St.) and literally five yards (Utah, UCLA) away from 7 wins--all without their stud QB (who also returns next year). They have two very good QBs on their roster and an NFL-ready WR. Their running game is not very good, nor is their defense. Sounds like a Leach team to me.

11/30/2011 - 4:35pm He has a few things going for him:

Name recognition, the upgraded facilities that you mentioned, two excellent QBs (Tuel who will be a senior, Halliday who will be a sophomore), and an NFL-ready WR (Wilson who will be a junior). Though Pullman isn't easy to bring in the top prospects, many coaches have walked into worse situations.

11/08/2011 - 3:50am Is it just me...

Or does it seem like Scottie Reynolds has been at Villanova forever? And he's still there.

10/16/2011 - 12:28am I posted it above, but here

I posted it above, but here is the link for the Narduzzi quote.

10/16/2011 - 12:26am I think you're onto

I think you're onto something. I think Dantonio did tell his team to rough up Denard. Heck, his DC Pat Narduzzi said after the game: "That's what we try to do. Sixty minutes of unnecessary roughness. I'm just happy it didn't get called on every snap." Link

Any chance you have another to spare? My email is cstorm07 (at) gmail (dot) com Thanks!

04/21/2011 - 7:53pm Nobody has mentioned them yet but...

IMHO, Hot Rod and Zoolander are up there along with Dumb & Dumber, SuperTroopers, Wedding Crashers and some of those other classics.

04/15/2011 - 4:08am Fab Five days

When I was four my family moved to Grand Rapids and I'm sure like many of you, those early days of the kindergarden-ish age is when I became a huge sports fan. This was during the Fab Five era, so naturally I became hooked on Michigan basketball (and then football). I think I was six when the C-Webb timeout happened...and I know I shed a tear. Okay, I shed a lot of tears. I remember I had a Michigan basketball hoop set up in my garage and practiced on it for hours imitating Jalen, Chris, et al. My family then moved back to eastern Washington (during the Drew Bledsoe days) so I grew up a fan of both Michigan and Washington State. To this day, those are the two teams I follow very closely/borderline religiously.

I hope there is no footage of the throttling Miami in a bowel game.

01/29/2011 - 3:05am What a great week to be a

What a great week to be a Michigan Wolverine. Hell, it's always good, but especially this week. Beating Sparty, getting some good recruits, the Great Pos-Bang of January 2011. I can go to sleep easy tonight.

01/17/2011 - 11:42pm Me too

I thought the In Rod We Trust and The Rebellion were my two camps, but I can certainly see aspects of the Fierce Pragmatist (thought RR deserved one more year, but rooting for Hoke to succeed) and Decatur Clan (loved RR, rooting for Hoke, but had him about 5th on my list). Those four, in some respects, kind of blend together a bit.

01/09/2011 - 4:14am Interesting that Saban used

Interesting that Saban used the pitch that they "need running backs" because Trent Richardson is a senior and Ingram's leaving. But what about the other four and five star running backs they've signed in the past few classes (1 5-star, 3 4-star, and 1 3-star) plus Dee Hart in this class.

Just another example of Saban going for the next great player at the expense of another player he probably said the same thing to a few years earlier. I don't want to hate on Dee because he probably felt that this was the best decision for him, and I wish him luck (except on that one 2012 Saturday in Dallas), but it's hard for me to see how these kids keep falling for it. Sure, some do make the cut and play for an outstanding team, but the ones that don't are left behind.

Sorry, just a little 1 a.m. rant. Been a frustrating recruiting day.

01/03/2011 - 1:05pm 2008 recruiting class

Not to mention that the recruiting class from three years ago is barely his, with the exception of some late snake oil. That's what I don't get about the whole situation. Sure, this isn't what we want, but look at who is playing. I'd love to see what RichRod and Co. can do with a secondary not full of freshmen and an upperclassman at QB.

12/30/2010 - 6:30pm CC update

Colorado College lost to my alma mater in men's hoops last night. There's a CC update for you!

12/25/2010 - 4:05am Merry Christmas to all and Go

Merry Christmas to all and Go Blue! May your holiday season be one to remember.

12/05/2010 - 11:00pm Pretty much any David

Pretty much any David Halberstam book is solid. Personally, I liked Playing For Keeps and The Breaks of the Game the most.

10/12/2010 - 8:27pm WSU

Paul Wulff has put a little more of an emphasis on recruiting Florida and, I believe, has four FL commits in this class (including two from Orlando). That doesn't really answer the question of why WSU other than perhaps he sees Wulff recruiting hard down in Florida and a few others have signed with the Cougs, which might give WSU a little traction with some players down there.

09/28/2010 - 11:23pm You went to Linfield? I went

You went to Linfield? I went to Whitworth. The best non-Michigan game I've been to was the Rose Bowl (Oregon/OSU) last year, but the second best was a Whitworth/Linfield game when we beat you guys for the first time in like 60 years or something. I think that was 2006 or so. You guys were always so good (and continue to be) at football among D3 schools.

09/13/2010 - 3:24am Cyrus Hobbi, etc.

Thanks as always, Tom! As a west coaster, I always look forward to reading your late night bits. That way I get my mgoblog fill at night too. Any new updates with Cyrus Hobbi? I remember he visited a few months ago and seemed to enjoy his stay. Just wondering if there are any new developments in his recruitment.

08/26/2010 - 10:46pm -

All helmets have wings.

No more meh controversies.

Finally: Football.

08/04/2010 - 1:38pm Half-Marathon

I'm training for the Disneyland Half-Marathon (boo-yeah) on Sept. 5 so this is a good way to help me stay motivated. Count me in!
