I lived in Switzerland for a bit and maintain a passing familiarity with their team, it would be a much bigger upset than the Mexico game.

06/17/2018 - 1:13pm Great result Mexico.

Great result Mexico.

The Wells Fargo ad for suspicious card activity with Landon buying the Mexico jersey is sublime.

I speak Spanish and the woman doing the translation is comically bad.

you clearly don't know anything about the degree, nice hot take.

06/15/2018 - 6:00pm I recently dumped comcast…

I recently dumped comcast/xfinity TV in San Francisco for YouTube TV and I have to say it has been a pleasant surprise.

When Comcast cut Big10 Network (it was already a low def channel) that was the last straw for me and I dumped their TV service. I thought I would be trading down in terms of picture quality and reliability, but quite the opposite was true. YTTV has MUCH better picture quality and thus far (3 months) has been completely problem free. This is dependent on having good internet and the comcast build out in my 'hood is above average and consistently gets me 250Mbps down, which is more than enough. I also connect the YTTV/Xbox/chromecasts I use in the system via wired connection via powerline adaptors, so no dependnece on wi-fi at all.

I'm not the biggest sports fan though, I mostly only care about M sports and the major events of pro sports, so that was not any part of my criteria for switching. If it it weren't for M sports, I wouldn't do live TV at all and would just sub to Netflix, Amazon Prime and the n Showtime and HOB through Amazon.

Comcast for internet is still a necessary evil where I live, but the moment Sonic builds out gigabit access in my neighborhood, I'll dump them for internet also. Can't wait.

Attacking Northwestern felt good, I got a cushy assignment, sort of like fighting the Italians in WWII.

How can I get more stars?

06/13/2018 - 11:35am I got a BGS degree from M…

I got a BGS degree from M and looooved it. People knock it as being easy because many football players choose it, though that is mostly because it avoids the foreign language proficiency requirement. It can allow you an easier path if you opt for that, but for the most part it is designed to be more intensive than a typical LSA degree.

It encourages students to attend a disparate range of classes in different schools, without having to necessarily concentrate in one or two. I took classes in chemistry, computer science, cosmology, film, literature, poli sci, law school courses, business school courses, math, statistics, american culture, communications, history, psychology, creative writing, etc. etc. Beyond allowing for a much more varied curriculum, it also requires that 60 credits be completed in 300/400 level courses, which are typically more intense than the 100/200 level prerequisites. The upper level courses are typically not huge lectures and are more focused and interesting by far than the intro courses.

As far as how it benefits me career-wise, I work in SF/Silicon Valley tech/media start-ups doing strategy, product and business development work and I use all of it. Writing/communication skills, some law, computer science and an understanding of technology, etc. Way more useful (to me) than getting a computer science degree (was never going to be a programmer) or something like a literature degree.

What is the weird…

What is the weird black team with the strange symbol? It doesn't look like any college football team I know.......

05/29/2018 - 5:08am I don't necessarily agree with the logic in terms of the

effect it would have, but if losing a certain game that we previously won would avoid the Dark Ages and keep the game results more typical in the following years, I would give it up in a heartbeat.

That would give us about 6 more wins against OSU since then, likely many of the contests people are wishing to reverse elsewhere in this thread, plus probably 4 more wins against MSU, also games likely mentioned here, not to mention App State doesn't happen.

05/29/2018 - 12:15am This is my answer excluding

all OSU/MSU games.

05/26/2018 - 9:57am I think Seth mentioned

in another thread that the switch would be flipped "when we can all be together", not sure who/what they are waiting for, but perhaps someone is out of town?

05/25/2018 - 7:35pm But you're only referring to monetary help

While obviously a major component, money isn't the only advantage of growing up middle or upper class.

Middle/Upper class kids still go to better schools, have a peer group who are more than likely also going to college, grow up on a community filled with role models and overall have higher expectations about where their lives should end up.... Not to mention a better network of references and or job opportunities once they're done with school.

05/24/2018 - 8:28pm Debbie Downer

the devil's advocate says:
1. A young untested QB is pushing the veteran QBs.....maybe veterans not that good?
2.There is no guarantee line will be better this year, transition in coaches and players, no real proven lineman. It is also possible line gets worse......
3. Don Brown's defense also practiced against last year's

05/04/2018 - 2:26pm I'm not even sure there is clearly any corruption

I read this earlier, and what it seems to be is a dispute between two departments on how audits are conducted and whether the standards applied would be the same for any University of Michigan department vs the standards for an independently run $11 billion fund.

On one hand, you have the internal compliance group at M accustomed to looking at academic departments and bodies and conducting a standard accounting audit of what is essentially a huge, independently run investment fund and I think Lundberg's contention is they aren't the same.

Schlissel clearly states that they are not the same and clearly admits that they have taken too long to resolve the issue. Big deal.

The gifts in question are a set of Timo luggage, some expensive clothing and a few business class flights. Meh.

It also mentions the potential for a conflict of interest for the fund manager, which I think they did already address fairly quickly by establishing a new and separate oversight committee to address that. I don't think there is any actual accusation of wrongdoing here.

The only even partially troubling item is the possible funnleing of investments to people that donated large sums to the university. Not sure if there is actualy a crime involved in that, or just bad optics and some potential for bad decisions without oversight.

I can't believe you actually tried to equate this with the MSU situation.

04/29/2018 - 10:39am The problem is...

Shea Patterson won't be all that effective if he is on his back.

I realize we didn't have the most stellar of quarterbacks last year, but I still think a large part of them not being serviceable was the fact that there was zero pass protection. Part of the problem is that our quarterbacks were injured most of the time, and if we can't protect Patterson he isn't going to be nearly as effective as we wanted to be.

04/28/2018 - 10:17pm Awesome!

Congratulations to both teams.

04/28/2018 - 6:46am This 100% x 100

Absolutely true and why I would always go to Costco, no matter what..

For the toilet paper alone, which is the product that first made Costco wildly popular.

But their strategies also differ quite a bit in product/vendor selection. Costco is famous for setting really high quality and utility standards for any product they put on their shelves. They have an entire lab that tests and approves toilet paper for instance. Rather than have 7 different types of ketchup, they have vendors all compete to provide the best product/price combination and that is the 1 type of ketchup they sell and what you get is an organic version of Heinz ketchup that is great-tasting, healthier because it is devoid of unnecessary additives and chemicals, way lower in sugar than other ketchups AND just as low in price. At Sam's/Walmarts, all you get is a ruthless focus on price, resulting in having 7 ketchups to choose from, all of which are adulterated in whatever way possible to make it a fraction of a cent cheaper to make.

Also consider:

Costco CEO Craig Jelinek earned $5.4 million in compensation in 2013, compared to $26 million that year for Wal-Mart CEO Doug McMillon.

In 2014, Costco pays hourly workers an average of $20.89 an hour, Businessweek reports. That compares to $12.67 an hour for Walmart. And about 88 percent of Costco employees have health insurance from the company.

"I just think people need to make a living wage with health benefits," Jelinek told the magazine. "It also puts more money back into the economy and creates a healthier country. It's really that simple."

About 15 percent of employees are unionized, but you don't see the same type of battles that other companies have with unions. "They are philosophically much better than anyone else I have worked with," a Teamsters executive tells Businessweek.

04/28/2018 - 6:17am Congrats!

It is fun. Get to your first vesting day after a year and Cha ching!

I've been through an IPO, and IPO/acquisition and am right now in the middle of my first ICO/crypto token offering and thus far it is smashing it. Lots of failures also, those aren't nearly as much fun.

I got hooked on start-ups in the early 90s and have worked at them almost exclusively ever since, a short stint at Microsoft cured me of ever wanting to work at a big company.

How cold was it at AT&T?

04/21/2018 - 2:52pm Agreed...

I went to tune into the lacrosse game and saw Nebraska spring game live, M lacrosse on Plus and just thought "eff you BTN" not going to drop money on you for that line up choice....ever.

I wish corporations in general had some idea of the effect their money-grubbing tactics have on customers overall. So many time I have been turned off to a product or service that I might otherwise consider purchasing were it not for stuff like this that just make them look kind of greasy.

04/21/2018 - 10:15am We had a labor researcher/consultant come speak to our

start-up about process and scaling up in size.

He went off on a tangent about the number of jobs that could/will be replaced by robots in the near future. It was a lot. Robotics is a growth area no doubt.

They have a term for the actual people that are currently doing those jobs: meat robots

04/18/2018 - 4:51am Allegiant is by far the worst

Not worth risking your life to save a few bucks.

04/17/2018 - 7:52pm As long as we are making baseless, wild-ass guesses about what

might have about:

1. Back in November, player began acting erratically

2. Player talked to, given options

3. Player continues to act erratically, leaves when told not to, breaks team rules, whatever

4. Player dismissed from team

5. Player continues to unwind on their own, acts more and more erratically, starts to cause more concern about him coming completely unhinged.

6. Team sends someone over to check on him and player loses it, calls police and spirals downward by acting out, posting threats, etc.

Here we are.

Could happen at any company, church, organisation, team, gathering, whatever at any time without it meaning there is any kind of circus or waiting scandal, expose to be had.

By all means, keep looking and hoping for one though.

04/17/2018 - 4:46pm hardly the time to be

throwing shade at MSU.

Just sayin'

04/15/2018 - 3:23pm Unfortunately plausible

Though I would put MSU as a W, you can't remain snakebit in that game forever.

WI could be an L though.

Switched today when I found out.

I have been on the edge for a long time and this was just the final straw, didn't realize other options had Big Ten Network in HD.

What is weird as I kind of expected the HD picture to be slightly inferior on the streaming services, but I'm looking at it and all the channels are better, much better. Totally.

04/11/2018 - 11:36am And...

04/09/2018 - 4:26pm right, but....

It is his interpretation of that situation and the position that the company was not liable that IS pertinent here.

Very hard to draw a specific conclusion without knowing all the facts (in both the Brown and MSU cases), but one could take the position that:

A. the man was found guilty of muliple instances of sexual assault at the workplace (I'm making two assumptions here; 1. due to existance of multiple reports of harassment that enough time had passed that at least one investigation had concluded 2. there was the conclusion that a sexual assault had occurred, or there wouldn't have been much of a case to hold the company accountable.

B. he was retained as an employee AFTER repeated sexual harassment

C. same man subsequently rapes the woman he harassed AT the place of employment

I think the whole point is that the company kept an employee who was repeatedly reported as an abuser and created a situation where a rape has (or should have) nothing to do with the company's track record in dealing with sexual assault OR their ability to discern whether the reported harassment was likely to result in a rape. Creating the expectation that there is any discretion on the part of the company is a terrible precedent to set. More clear to have a decision that indicates "you better fire known sexual predators, or you're responsible what they do at your workplace."

Not to mention, he has a track history of supporting these opinions, if it was just one time....maaaaybe.

I don't find it the least bit irresponsible to characterize Young as overly-sympathetic to an organization and their liability, nor do I buy the argument that because courts absolve sexual harassment cases at high rates that he gets any kind of pass for the opinions he supports in those cases.

Think about it.....isn't "courts absolve sexual harassment cases at high rates" part of the problem that we are trying to address here any way?

Sure...MSU is not trying to hire a neutral party and I guess should get someone that shares their slant on company/government responsbility, but as being someone that worked on the supreme court in the state where the case is being decided, it is undeniable that influence and access to the legal and investigative entities at work here is part of what they expect in retaining his services and in that respect, the bias is dangerous.

Putting aside any potential for bias of influence from Young, it is STILL unbelievably obtuse on the part of MSU to retain his services.....the optics alone are incredibly bad. This is he ONLY candidate you could find for this role? There isn't someone out there that either doesn't have a clearly slanted history of opinions, no opinions, or better yet, a history of being supportive of and sympathetic to the victims of sexual harassment, rape, abuse, etc.?

Is MSU's primary role in all this to fight as vigorously as possible and mitigate damage to the university and those that allowed the abuse, without any regard for the victims? Or is it to assess and assume a level of responsbility and change the culture that allows the abuse? So far it seems much more like the former than the latter, and that is reprehensible.

Checks out. ;)

"I don't mind standing every so often at Michigan Stadium"

Contrast that to this response at the very idea of sitting down in Ohio Stadium that caused an 8 hour debate/non-debate in Columbus where they emphatically support "stand up, cheer, do as much as you can"

Honestly, there exists a compromise solution where some sections can be reserved for people that do not wish/cannot stand and others could be tagged as "spirit" sections where anything goes, but AD has never attempted any sort of solution. Yes, I know people have ad their season tickets/sections forever, so perhaps some type of system gets implemented slowly over time.....the sooner we start the sooner tis goes away.

No one wants to force older fans to stand when they can't, or interfere with their enjoyment of the game in any way. Big love for all M fans, but if everyone gives a little we could solve this pretty easily without harming anyone's experience in any way.

This is only an issue at M stadium.....nowhere else does this occur and this debate has raged for the entire 50+ years I have been a fan and there is no end in sight.
