03/03/2018 - 11:04am Dumbing down the game

Just another way to take the edge out of what is supposed to be a CONTACT SPORT. If a player doesn't want to get nailed while handling a short kickoff DON'T CATCH THE BALL. This will eliminate many exciting kickoff return plays ala Ted Ginn. Why not just wrap everyone in bubble wrap while they are at it?

02/25/2018 - 8:52pm Item 3

I agree- BO was not a “Michigan man” when he was hired.Think outside the box like in 1969.

02/25/2018 - 1:02pm Lake Erie

is downstream from Lake Huron. And Ohio doesn't have Flint or Detroit.

So what happened to the winning?

02/09/2018 - 12:48am bricks and mortar

Can't buld a wall without bricks.

02/08/2018 - 11:38pm he ain't winning

Yeah, well he ain't winning and hasn't beaten OSU. He's 1-5 against OSU and MSU. 1-2 in bowl games. UM's top 2018 recruit would be #14 at OSU (look up the top 300 recruits for 2018). Should I continue? (drop the mike). Sure he's a "Michigan Man." But it takes more. Bo wasn't a "Michigan" Man - just a "kick ass" man (from Ohio).

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck - IT'S A DUCK!!!

02/08/2018 - 10:27pm The problem is the coach

The problem starts with Harbaugh - quirkiness may get you in with recruits - but not the parents. Its a journey - not a roadtrip to some funky destination. Or creepy sleepovers. Successful coaches are like father figures, not  frat buddies. Can you see Meyer, Saban, Swinney or Smart doing a sleepover or other gimmicky stuff like Harbaugh does? That is what success looks like.

Harbaugh may be a great coach but his recruiting needs to improve. At Stanford the school sells itself to a certain type of player and does not need the strong recruiting effort, so Harbaugh was able to focus more on coaching. And in the pros there was no need for him to recruit. Most schools are different - its a lot of work. Harbaugh needs to get on board and get serious.

02/08/2018 - 10:06pm What a loser attitude. You

What a loser attitude. You wearing a smoking jacket and puffing on a pipe when you wrote that? The fact you think you can't have both means you have already checked out. Put on your big boy pants and get to work!

02/07/2018 - 7:31pm hand me downs

UM hiring Warinner is like wearing your older brother's used jockstrap.

02/07/2018 - 7:26pm Recruiting technique - parents too

Read the articles on the NPF recruiting. Meyer and Schiano provided him a complete, professional outline of his academic, starting football, and post-college tracks. This was not just for NPF but for his mother as well. UM needs to cut out the gimmicky sleepover crap and show the parents what the school can do for their son. Harbaugh may have a great football mind, but some of his quirkyness just doesn't sell.

02/07/2018 - 6:41pm rivalry

I really was hoping JH would turn things around the bring a spark back like Woody v. Bo. Hasn't really been a rivalry since the 2006 game.

02/07/2018 - 6:38pm chances

His chances are not good. Needs more sleepovers on the recruiting trail.

02/07/2018 - 6:35pm no life

and that is why you post on this blog? Given UM's recent lack of success in critical games your implication may be right that football has less importance for UM.

11/27/2016 - 12:45pm Is Ed Martin still living?

Is Ed Martin still living? He's the UM money man. Ask Chris Webber.

11/27/2016 - 12:35pm Agreed - The Game is back

Agreed - The Game is back thanks to Harbaugh. Now an OSU  victory means so much more than in years past - and I mean that in a good way. I hate to say it but UM will start having its share of wins over OSU with the H-man at the helm. Watching him rip off his headset reminded me of Bo - refreshing!

11/27/2016 - 12:29pm Like Ed Martin

You mean like the $616,000 banned booster Ed Martin gave to the Fab Five during high school and college?

11/27/2016 - 12:21pm 1badman bad mouth

You must be a UM journalism major - stay away from the toluene - it is rotting your brain

11/28/2015 - 10:29pm I understand the hate

Well, hate me or not but UM fans have every reason to be proud of the turn around this year. Greater things are in store for you. But I do admit liking to see that smartass look on D J Durkins face disappear.....

11/28/2015 - 9:32pm Envy not hate

I've never seen such a bunch of self-indulgent, self-absorbed crybabies. Waaaaaaaah! The word you are searching for is ENVY, NOT HATE!!! Crunching a nut on a grave don't get the job done folks. Come down to C-Town for another whuppin next year. In the meantime Go (be) Blue for another 365 days! Go Bucks!!!!

09/08/2015 - 12:37am Back to prominence

Agreed.

09/08/2015 - 12:29am Injured QB

If he was playing for UM he would have been put back in!!!

09/08/2015 - 12:17am pulled away

You called it!

02/06/2015 - 1:02am Hoke too!

Hoke also thought there were things more important than winning  - how did that work out for you?

01/15/2015 - 1:41am Cold weather

Agreed. My Mom and Dad attended the 1950  "Snow Bowl" - talk about cold weather!

01/15/2015 - 1:29am little jimmy

Because until he is in the same class as Urban Meyer, he will be "little jimmy" - kind of like being "little brother" to Mark Dantonio.

01/10/2015 - 5:23pm Travel Reimbursement

Just a matter of time. The NCAA money citadel is beginning to crumble. The power 5 conferences will increasingly dictate the outcome of these issues or they wiil take their conferences (and their revenues) elsewhere. This is where the NCAA is most vulnerable - follow the money. There is no legal requirement to belong to the NCAA. It's only power is the ability (and willingness) of its member institutions to self impose the NCAA rules and sanctions. The NCAA has no separate legal enforcement powers. That is why individuals can refuse to cooperate with NCAA investigations - the NCAA has no legal ability to issue subpoenas. The NCAA is increasingly becoming a paper tiger.

very true

12/28/2014 - 12:32pm The Game is back!

This is great news for the Big 10. A win over a strong UM always means more.

09/28/2014 - 12:36pm M(al)aize and Blue

I was born in Columbus and come from a long-time Buckeye family. We did move to Ann Arbor when I was young (in the 1960s) and I attended John Allen Elementary and Scarlett Jr. High. I attended many UM football games. I even wore an OSU tshirt to the first summer football clinic Bo put on in Michgan Stadium (noticed by Bo but I lived to tell the tale). I was at the '69 game.

The OSU-UM game was always the highlight of the schedule and usually determined the Big Ten Champion. Beating UM was always a thrill because they were great teams - it meant something. It gave you a good feeling that carried over all year until the next Game. Being a Buckeye in Ann Arbor was never easy, but it was fun. Woody vs. Bo.

Things have changed since that time. The UM program seems to have lost its way. In his post-game interview Coach Hoke seemed lost, unfocused, unsure what to do. Dysfunction in the athletic department. The Coke ticket debacle. I have read that many former UM lettermen have weighed in that AD Dave Brandon needs to go.

Michigan recruits great players year after year. Sure, that the program has not turned around starts with the coaches. But I can’t help feel that the problem goes deeper than the coaches and is more systemic - meaning the Athletic Department as a whole. That starts with Dave Brandon.

It is my sincere hope that UM gets some new blood in the Athletic Department and turns things around. I would like nothing better than beating a UM team that is top notch. Meyer vs. Harbaugh, Meyer vs. Miles - kind of has a nice ring, doesn’t it?

09/03/2012 - 12:18pm Why blocking negative posters? Orwell's 1984 revisited

Why is this an issue? Do you want to live in a Pollyanna world? Ever read Fahrenheit 451?Only good news? Sounds like what you have in China and North Korea!

09/03/2012 - 11:46am Ohio State?

What does the fact that OSU can't play in the title game have to do with how good they are? After the first quarter OSU looked very good both on offense and defense (especially against a first round NFL quarterback who will break Ben Rothlisberger's school passing record this year). UM on the other hand looked unprepared.  Not what you expect from UM football.

I was watching an ESPN video a week ago that took you into the OSU practices. The coaches were lean and intense. Like Bo was in 1969 (I was living in Ann Arbor then and I remember his intensity - I am probably the only person to wear a OSU tshirt to a UM football clinic in front of Bo and live to tell the tale). Bo had players quitting because the practices were so intense.

Later I watched a ESPN video of the UM coaches - some were tired-looking Pillsbury Dough Boy types (Mattison, Borges)(Really - that was my impression. Not trying to be unnecessarily unkind). I did not see the same level of intensity. Also, you can't have an offense that focuses so heavily on one player  - Robinson. Once he gets banged up there is no one to step in for the offense.

Unless UM pickes things up a notch, last years victory over OSU may only be a temporary interruption of UM's version of OSU's "Cooper Years" with UM. Lets hope things pick up at TSUN so that THE GAME is still THE GAME (like it last was in 2006 - I was there for that one too.).

12/16/2011 - 4:45am Dymonte Thomas is next

The title says it all. Then Hoke will be offered an assistant job........

12/12/2011 - 2:02am Math?

2003 and 2011 over the last 10 years - my math is good. What you talkin' about Willis?  If you want I can add in 2001 to make it 9-2. Feel better now?

Cracks me up that you get a negative rating on a comment on this site and its gets kind of hidden. You Bozo's are way too sensitive, can't take the heat. But then again, it is UM.....

12/11/2011 - 12:15pm Focus on Michigan Talent

Why all this whinin', complainin', hand wringin'? UM should focus on in-state recruiting. The 2011 UM roster is only 37% in-state recruits (41 out of 111) compared to OSU 66% in-state recruits (77 out of 117). OSU only had 3 Michigan recruits compared to Michigan having 21 Ohio recruits. If both schools stay out of each other's back yards, there is no problem, right? Or are all of you worried Meyer will stop the Ohio recruit pipeline (must be hard to admit how much UM depends on the state of Ohio for its football success).
