|08/09/2018 - 8:16am||Schmidt's, Thurman's Cafe,…||
Schmidt's, Thurman's Cafe, and Hofbrauhaus are my personal favorites.
As good as Thurman's is, it is a hole in the wall sort of place and you will have to wait quite a while depending on when you go there due to the very limited space.
Schmidt's is also very crowded depending on the time but does have plenty of space so it moves through people quickly at least and they also own and run an excellent candy shop next door you can kill some time in.
Hofbrauhaus is a German-based outfit that is starting to put some locations in America, one of which is in Columbus. Food is decent to good and the beer is excellent. I have been told that they import the beer for Oktoberfest straight from Germany rather than make it locally but I have not been there at the right time of year to confirm.

I never used Reddit before this and when I signed up I got the thing for bot detection, filled out the survey, and the warning went away, however my vote page shows "0 turns played" even though when I click on that link I get a list of all the moves I have made. The "links explored" counter did update properly when I did some of that at some point early on, but even clicking the update buttons does not change the turns played counter. Display bug or bug with my moves counting?|

I have been in Japan for the last week and a half and can confirm they have collectively lost their minds over this hit.
It has been on the news every day and got more coverage than the latest North Korea/South Korea slappy fight. There have been press conferences, interviews, a media chase of the coach, etc and yet they continued to blur the players number and not mention his name.

I'm in 39 higher up and can confirm they are mostly terrible sitters. Yesterday I even got yelled at for standing during the halftime show, which is usually the only time I get to straighten my back out for more than a couple minutes.
Also, I have the worst row in the history of football. I'm on the aisle and I put up with a constant stream of people coming and going all game. Doesn't matter if it is during play or not. Many of them are usually plenty late for kickoff too; I even commented to my dad how shocked I was the whole row seemed to be present for kickoff.
|10/08/2017 - 12:41am||I literally cannot find a||
I literally cannot find a single nice thing to say about the offense. We've done a lot of seizure enducing things on offense this year, but we tended to have some variety in the other games. Today I think we checked all the boxes:
Stupid, unneeded penalty that killed a big play and ultimately the drive.
Critical drops by wide receivers; especially McDoom's that cost us a chance at several reasonable endzone shots.
Turnovers like Oprah is handing them out.
Play calling so bad you wonder if you're watching a Pop Warner game. I'm still shaking my head at the 3rd and 4 play we called that killed our second to last drive.
I can barely wrap my mind around just how bad our offense is. We've found more ways to fuck ourselves on offense this year than the Lions have found to get themselves screwed out of wins and I just don't see how it is going to get any better. There are so many problems to correct I don't even know where we begin without at least an offseason and some job turnovers, but considering we just came off a bye week, I'm not even confident in that.
It is criminal that we are wasting defenses this good. I would be confident sending this defense out angainst anyone, maybe even the Browns and the Dolphins, but as we saw today they have to actually score as well or they don't get rewarded.
|09/07/2017 - 2:13am||I'm in Ann Arbor.
At the time
I'm in Ann Arbor.
At the time I switched I was hoping I could get them to ballpark AT&T's offer because it was more convenient to stick with Comcast, but as it turned out, Comcast was offering 75MB for the same price as AT&T was for 50MB. (both 10MB upload if I recall)
Comcast usually doesn't play ball with you for "new customer" deals and indeed when I called to cancel they wouldn't do it, so I cancelled both. A cowoker of mine mentioned that they tend to be more friendly in the Comcast office in town so I made sure to turn the cable box in there so I could try my luck. Took a little nudging and winking and dropping "switch" and "AT&T" in the same sentence but I eventually for it for the new customer rate of $40 for the full year and I didn't even have to agree to the contract like the website said.
|09/06/2017 - 4:36pm||Good thing I pitched Comcast||
Good thing I pitched Comcast TV two weeks ago in favor of YouTube TV.
Ironically, since I still have internet through Comcast, this move actually benefits me and helps ensure I get maximum TV. Comcast amazes me by consistently showing what a downright garbage company they are. It was really tempting to switch to AT&T for internet too just out of principal, but I founf it ulatimately impossible to turn down an extra 25 Mbps at the same price and with no need for new equipment or installation since I already had Comcast and own my own moden.
Maybe next year when they jack my rate up again.
|09/03/2017 - 12:25am||Saving $40 from what I was||
Saving $40 from what I was paying with a Comcast promotion and $70 from what they wanted to jack it to at the end of that. That's a lot more than a couple bucks; I can buy one of our ugly maize jerseys in just a couple months with those savings.
|09/03/2017 - 12:19am||Sounds like a lot of people||
Sounds like a lot of people with a streaming service used the login to use the ESPN app, which has me a bit confused. Why wouldn't you just use the main app for PS Vue or Sling or whatever you have? Especially if the ESPN app isn't working for you?
BTW, just cut the cord last week and am using YouTube TV. Worked wonderfully for me. (using website stream via Chrome)

Nothing right now on TV, but the Chromecast has other functions that is relevant for (Netflix, YouTube videos, etc) and will only gain more as time passes.
|07/23/2017 - 10:16am||Was just about to switch to||
Was just about to switch to PS Vue, but this might be a game changer if it includes Fox Sports Detroit. Heck, even if it doesn't, you get a free Chromecast for signing up for a month and it looks from the picture like the 4k version too. Hockey doesn't start until October anyway.
Edit: I was mistaken about the Chromecast; I didn't know they changed the basic one to look goofy now too.
|07/07/2017 - 11:27pm||Thanks for the tip on that; I||
Thanks for the tip on that; I didn't think about maintaining broadcast channels via Comcast. If Comcast wants to charge me a lot for internet I might switch to Uverse anyway since I live alone and don't necessarily need the extra speed even with streaming to account for. I'll have to check with them both and see what the options are.
I guess for the occasional Michigan road game on ABC I could just come up with an alternative, although I enjoy watching other big games throughout the season as well, so not being able to get those would be a bummer.
I guess I technically could check if I can stream ABC national stuff live now since I have a Comcast login. It'd be the same difference with Vue at that point, so I'll have to give it a shot with a similar sort of event between now and switching time.
|07/07/2017 - 11:23pm||Yeah, it says it has FSD,||
Yeah, it says it has FSD, which is great for the Tigers, but nothing about FSD+, which is frequently where the Wings end up when the Pistons are also playing. I know FSD has their own streaming service which you can login with Vue just like you would Comcast, but I'm not sure whether I could get access to the FSD+ feed that way or not since the channel doesn't seem to be included with the Vue package.
|07/07/2017 - 10:29pm||Baked Potato||
|07/07/2017 - 10:11pm||This is extremely unfortunate||
This is extremely unfortunate news, as I've been counting down the days until September when my Comcast contract was up and I could ditch their cable for Vue.
Now I will at least consider trying to get another deal from Comcast, but I think I might switch anyway. The extra $10 will probably leave about where I am paying now anyway, but it means less money to Comcast and I get the added perk of easier streaming through the Vue app when I'm on the go.
On the other hand though, I believe Vue lacks FSD+, which is important for nights the Red Wings and Pistons are both playing. I am also a little fuzzy about the ABC situation, since a game is likely to pop up on there at some point. Can any SE MI Vue users share whether they can get football games live with ABC On Demand somehow, since we lack the local ABC feed? Really don't want to get a stupid antenna just for that.

|06/15/2017 - 1:45pm||I have heard on the board||
I have heard on the board before that PSU basically flat out doesn't want you to bring your band so they do everything they can to make it hard to accomplish that short of telling you "no" explicitly. Last I recall, it was said they only allow a very small band portion and they basically charge for every band member like they were attenting the game as a fan.
If that is true, then I wonder why in the hell we or anybody else let's them bring their band to their stadium? As far as I'm concerned, if they don't return the favor in kind, they can leave theirs at home too.
As far as Wisconsin goes, I would guess that might have something to do with the reputation of how their fans treats visting guests?
|06/09/2017 - 1:58pm||I suppose that is a fair||
I suppose that is a fair enough assessment, although the things that turned out well for him as a result were definitely not a sure thing at the time of the suspension. I think a 1 year suspension is still pretty hefty, even if it does ultimately turn into a redshirt year, but kicking him off the team is also not really a whole lot more of a punishment by that same token. If that happens he just transfers and the same thing happens anyway playing time wise, although perhaps his future would have been more damaged than it ended up being if his landing spot was significantly inferior to a program like Oklahoma's. Maybe from Oklahoma's point of view that is more the "right" thing to do even if another program is willing to associate with him, but I don't think it is a moral imperative to dissociate with someone who's mistake was born of being racially harassed and pushed, either.
To be clear, I certainly don't disagree that Stoops is as soft as too many coaches are on this sort of thing, and the OP article mentions those. I just don't think Mixon belongs as part of that discussion since I think the punishment for that is inline with what a coach who genuinally was trying to do the right thing would do.
|06/09/2017 - 11:12am||Again, nobody said he||
Again, nobody said he deserved to get off for this. When you are that much bigger than someone, a push like that does not warrant that kind of KO punch; only in cases where a shove like that is a credible physical threat.
What you seem to be missing is that he WAS in fact punished for this, and the punishment was not trivial, and yet you seem to want the punishment for this to last forever as if he had hit her right out of the clear blue sky for no reason at all.
|06/09/2017 - 11:07am||I didn't say he was justified||
I didn't say he was justified in punching her, I explicitly said he deserved the punishment he got specifically because he had a significant physical advantage. However, I feel that the punishment was just and he has served it, so Mixon should be allowed to move on with his life. As far as Stoops goes, you can believe whatever you want about his motivations, but a one year suspension IMHO is reasonable and he doesn't deserve to be called soft for that one regardless of what he's subsequently said to quell the public hyteria over it. If it had been York in Nixon's scneario at Oklahoma he may very well have been kicked off the team, but you don't know that, and even if he had, I would still believe that to be excessive under the circumstances.
It absolutely does matter what the other person is doing. If you harass and shove someone, getting punched for it is frankly deserved. In other words, if Joe Mixon was an average sized person for which a racially charged verbal salvo and a push from another average sized person isn't as trivial, then I don't think he deserved any punishment.
You don't get to play innocent victim because you target someone and they finished what you started. You reap what you sow. You can feel free to believe that retaliation is never justified if you want, but I personally disagree with that philosophy when you are maliciously, individually targeted physically or even verbally if the words are heinous enough. I won't go into life story details, but that feeling comes after many years of doing things your way and seeing exactly how that doesn't work.
I guess I will add too that while sucker punching warrants punishment regardless, if the guy York knocked out was throwing racial slurs out, York shouldn't have been kicked off the team for it. Suspended for a while, absolutely for blindsiding, using more force than necessary on someone he has a huge advantage over, and frankly punching him at all in absense of him making contact first, but nobody should have to sit there and take that for nothing. If the "crap talk" was making fun of his position on the depth chart, or if York provoked it to begin with, then yeah, he deserved to be kicked off.
Fact is though that only the participants and a handful of witnesses ever know the full, true story of how anything went down, so we're left to judge based only on what we can reasonably know from collective testimony that has been reported on, so my opinions of the two cases can only be based on that.
|06/08/2017 - 5:31pm||York's was caught on tape too and he straight up||
York's was caught on tape too and he straight up sucker punched the guy from what I recall. We don't know what was said before that, but I certainly don't recall the other guy pushing him first regardless of what he was saying.
If York's situation were truely the same I have no problem saying he didn't deserve to get kicked off the team.
And I think the reason nobody remembers York has more to do with his not being the starting RB.
|06/08/2017 - 4:07pm||Joe Mixon||
I don't know anything about the first two he cites in the article, but I'm really not sure I understand why Joe Mixon continues to get so much coverage.
Someone correct me if I have something incorrect, but the incident between him and girl he hit started with the N word being directed at him and also involved a shove on her part before the infamous punch from what I recall.
Being a D1 running back, he is responsible for knowing that a normal human being is not a credible threat to him just for a shove and he absoltuely deserved the punishment he got for escalating it to that extent, but he was suspended for an entire year and received a criminal punishment for it as well, so frankly, I don't see what the problem is with him being allowed to move on with his life.
This is only still talked about because she was a woman, and while that is certainly relavent to many of the sorts of violent and sexual cases around football lately, I don't think the circumstances here make that fact weigh nearly as much. Doesn't matter if you're male or female, if you throw racial slurs at someone and then shove them, I don't generally feel sorry for you if you get punched for it. Its really the fact that Mixon has such a huge physical advantage over anybody save another football player that makes that level of escalation unacceptable, and he did pay quite handily for it as it is. From a purely football standpoint he was suspended for a year, which is way more than I recall anybody else ever getting for far, FAR worse than this, unless you want to count Ray Rice as lifetime just because he was cut and never resigned after only officially getting 2 games.
|05/31/2017 - 4:42pm||I'm not familar with the||
I'm not familar with the rules on how these things are decided, but does anybody know when we might know the time for the Wisconsin game?
As fate would have it, I will be in the Wisconsin Dells that weekend and I am going to be all over that road game if it's a noon kickoff. 3:30 or 8:00 and it'll interfere with my other happenings that I am out there for in the first place, but if its noon I'd be back well in time.
It is sort of too bad the hockey games are at night or else that would be tempting too.

|02/20/2017 - 8:38pm||I've never understood why||
I've never understood why people are so against night games. The arguments against them are pretty lame and pretty much apply to any game, not just night games.
In genreal I'd rather not play OSU at night just because it is so late in the year and if it is going to be that cold, I would prefer there are least be the possibility of some sunlight, but for a #1 vs #2, I would take it and I would like it. On the other side of the coin, I really likied UTL 1 and 2 because it was early in the season and it was still plenty warm and without the sun beating down on what, in September, can sometimes be a rather hot day.
In a year where our only major non-November candidate is MSU, I'm all for it, particularly when they are so early on the schedule like this year. I'd also be cool with Nebraska, PSU, and probably even Wisconsin in a night game under similar circumstances, but looking ahead to when our better OOC schedule starts kicking in, I would say I would rather hold the big night game for an infrequent opponent, like Texas, Oklahoma, UCLA, and so on. File ND under that category too if that continues to be an every once in a while deal.
|02/01/2017 - 6:22pm||In Defense of Brian||
While I agree that at least publicly acknowledging and addressing the problem would probably be appropriate by the staff, I am not surprised that upgrading the site is not moving anywhere.
Me and my groupmates tried to use Drupal for our senior design project, and it kind of sucks. It's neat for Average's Joe's Website Nobody Cares About but it is definitely not for something of this magnitude and it wasn't particularly useful for us and what we wanted to do. We ended up just hackig the daylights out of the database schema and writing completely other stuff for most of our project, leaving just the login piece of the original Drupal stuff we started with. To some extent or another I'm guessing that is what MGoBlog is at this point too, but it predictably doesn't work so hot for a site like this. In fact, if I recall, I emailed Brian about the points system because we wanted something similar, and he replied that he had to patchwork the original system to even get what we have and that if we managed to come up with with something useful to let him know (sorry Brian, it didn't work out of for us either...)
Admittedly, I was brand new to web development then and am still new/bad at it now, but I think "upgrading" at this point probably really means building it brand new from the ground up. I'm not sure where Drupal is at these days, but I'd bet a paycheck it'd be just as efficient to redo the whole thing. That is going to take quite a lot of time no matter where the money and the labor comes from, and then there's the migration to consider too that would require coming up with a conversion plan from scratch too.
TLDR: The website is a ptachwork of hacks on top of Drupal because Drupal actually kind of sucks and doing something about it is significantly harder than throwing money and a few volunteers at it, and even with sufficient amounts of those would take a long time. Sorry guys, but I think we're just going to have to deal with it.
|11/26/2016 - 4:47pm||Not happy with the way they||
Not happy with the way they got away with defensive holding that we got called for every time, but we still win easily if we don't do bonehead stupid stuff.
Running into the kicker AGAIN, drops, the facemask on the big run, etc. Every time we had a chance to put the dagger to them we put them right back into it.
It's frustrating that we finally seem to have a better team and we gave it away to them.
|10/11/2016 - 5:29pm||This||
Not sure if you were the guy who recommended it before, but somebody on the board recommended this like 4 years ago and I found this to be a perfect option.
The lot is isolated from foot traffic and the people running it are not the type to let people walk in and look for cras to destroy. Plus, its reasoanbly priced and the cost is for a good cause.
The Alumni Association also had a thing going in one of their buildings and the building was very close to this lot. It was extremely convenient for that and reasonable walking distance from the stadium.
Also, I personally have never had a big issue in Columbus despite all the horror stories. I have never been egrigiously mistreated and have had plenty of good conversations with the people around me. Never had much trouble at MSU either, but definitely more so than in Columbus. In fact, I think I've had more trouble with VISITING Wisconsin fans than I ever had at a road game. I have no desire to go to Madison lest it be for a game against someone else in which I can be a neutral observer.

One day I'll accept I'm alone forever and drop my extra seat, but it was not this day...
Also, good luck with that house. I'm doing pretty alright for myself and I still think it'll take me at least another 7 years to be able to afford one of those in this town.

26 year old recent grad here. Got real adult tickets starting last year thanks to Brandon and other factors tanking the wait list and making it easy to get them.
I intend to hold onto them for the next 80 years if I live that long. (although even I must admit, when we have all our first 3-5 games at home in a row, I appreciate that first road game to kick back and relax)
Ditto for hockey.

|08/10/2016 - 10:36am||I just joined the list and I||
I just joined the list and I got them first year, but that was convinently during the transition period to Harbaugh when everyone got offered tickets because Brandon had chased everyone off. Now I'm sure the list is back, but its tough to know how long it might be, especially if we have another big year and the hype train goes off the rails.
I'd get on that list when you can for the seasons to come, but if you're looking for this year, I have an extra I'm getting rid of that's on the MGoSpreadsheet.
I chose to get 2 hoping to need it for a significant other some day and just to bring friends in the mean time (and also because I figure it'll be hard to increase the number in the future and not get sent back to the top of the endzone), but that proved stressful and annoying to get rid of them all last year so I'm trying to just offload it in whole to whomever last year.

It isn't just her. Kristen Wiig's characters also went to Michigan. Their characters were best friends growing up, so I suppose it makes sense that they went to college together. I only noticed the degree during the movie and did not catch that the other character went to Michigan too.

I was actually looking forward to this, and then I went to download, and oops, sorry, we didn't bother making an x86 version for people like you who have a Zenfone 2.
I have never had this problem before. Every single app I've ever wanted, be it a large, multi-gigbyte mobile game or a simple utility app has rupported both ARM and x86 without issue, but somehow a multi-billion dollar company like Nintendo can't be bothered.
Same reason they can't be bothered to release a console with decent hardware and either no or completly optional gimmicks I guess.

Honestly though, I doubt very much the out of state is about diversity, it's about that bigger number in the tuition column. =P

Really kind of hope the rumors he is turning pro are true. All three years he has reminded me of Burlon and Llewellyn, guys with measureables and ability but so stupid sometimes I almost find it hard to believe they are still academically eligible. Its too bad, because he had started to do better in the second half until they inexcusable cross check in the B1G tournament. He has reverted back into form quickly.
|03/26/2016 - 8:28pm||To hell with our defense and||
To hell with our defense and our goaltending. It is embarassing the way we bleed goals for both reasons when we are so good at the other end.
I just don't get how, after the entire reasons, guys STILL all watch the puck, STILL constantly blow their assignments, STILL give up odd man rushes so often, and STILL turn the puck over so much like at the end of last period.
Completely inexcusable to be able to handle the puck so well on offense and then do it like garbage in your own end.
Really don't see the defense improving without a coaching change, but we do at least have a blue chip goalie and some fresh defensive blood coming in that might at least be able to fix the obvious stuff on their own that we can't get right now.
