It does seem like NIL has stepped up, particularly very recently (holding the roster together during our portal window). Maybe its just that little bit of BPONE that Houston some how didn't eradicate, but I'm still not entirely sold considering we just sent 18 players to the combine. Last year's NIL focus was keeping guys out of the draft, this year is to keep them out of the portal I suppose.
Maybe NIL was not a factor in all 18 + Sabb, and everything is roses. But... let's see.
My name is not Matt, but at the time of my promotion from lurker to rare commenter on MGoBlog, I was convinced Vogrich would be what Stauskas eventually became
Became clear noone was going to give him a shot with Reid pulling the strings. You can understand what he tried to do by taking the reigns over a bad offense to try to prove himself HC material... but yeah, that bet didn't pay off.
Seth talking about Fritz Crisler and Brian interrupting him to say that's not relevant while the recruit reads a brochure titled TRANSFORMATIONAL NOT TRANSACTIONAL with an appendix covering the acceptable and unacceptable versions of the block M that can be used
Exactly how I feel. To go further on the risks of B) - is the next guy/staff able to spot and develop talent at the same level as Jim and anyone he takes with him? If not, is he able to turn the NIL story around enough (on top of being more committed to M in January) to recruit a more translatable level of talent here? I have my doubts. Not saying its impossible, but I have my doubts.
Jim with his warts + the bench of coaching talent and churn of good coaches into good job opportunities elsewhere (that eventually could come back home) is the best situation for Michigan.
Not really sure Spanos' rep for being cheap matters. They'll talk numbers probably pretty early via agents and Harbaugh will know that answer quickly - cheap is not a long term concern for an NFL owner like meddling or not caring is.
Many have shared this sentiment but my guess is any other concerns are out-weighed by Herbert for Jim. He's going to have immense confidence in his own abilities to right the ship elsewhere, so long as he is given the power to do so.
How much more does he need to do to anoint Sherrone than making him the acting HC against Penn State, Maryland, and ohioSt? I don't understand this coach in waiting prospect. Let's say Jim comes back and next year Smart is off to the NFL and Georgia wants to hire Sherrone. Does he pass that opportunity up because he's the coach in waiting at Michigan? That's crazy. There's an obvious successor unless the athletic department goes rogue and that's enough.
This 100%. My seats were in that corner and the sideline was losing their minds trying to get Semaj to come off the field. JJ in particular was jumping up and down almost on the field trying to get his attention. He didn't do anything wrong on this one.
truly sad to see what was such an iconic venue sink so low as to not offer 2 kids in big inflatable balls run at each other for the chance to take home a $5 chili's gift card. More corporate greed from the bowl elites.
Coaches offer a lot of guys and never tell us how they rank them. Simple as that, if we had the Harbaugh recruiting rankings handy, you wouldn't see composite scores on this site
many in the walk-on category are benefiting from this too though. Is it even - of course not, but covering tuition for the 2nd kicker probably means a lot to him
and THIS should be the narrative for this championship game, not signs or burger adversity. 2 teams with outstanding coaching and development, running programs in a way the powerhouses do not.
For all the complaints about modern CFB with conference realignment, NIL, portal, etc. - ultimate success from the way Washington and Michigan have constructed their rosters gives the sport hope.
Perhaps seems obvious now, but I definitely felt this way (as did others here, namely Brian) prior to this run. Looking at results, it felt impossible for a Michigan team recruiting the way they do to compete with the rosters of Alabama, Clemson, ohiost, Georgia, etc. that had dominated the CFP era. They were littered with 5 stars, we were lucky to grab 1 or 2 per class. Therefore, high 4 and 5 stars seemed like a prerequisite.
Clearly Michigan has shown another path, one defined by recruiting a type of player that needs to sit in the program a while, developing them well, and getting more college production with them vs. them having some peak pro potential.
No buyout, no NFL clause. The no flirting thing is only on the table if we'd prefer no Harbaugh to a Harbaugh with his eyes on the NFL...
3 straight B1G titles and CFP appearances, I am completely happy with this Harbaugh. Pay him whatever gets it done and don't put any strings on it. If he leaves, I'm not worried about a buyout to pay Moore's salary.
I'd even go so far as to add some protection for him against the 2 active NCAA investigations. UM does not have some leverage to hold over him, but if they offer enough love I think they can get him to look past the Chargers this offseason and get 1 year closer to him being too old for the NFL :)

eh, not too worried about the portal. This shit works, after all
Who does Harbaugh slap in this scenario? Also, are the Harbaugh children willing to block? We need answers.
Lest we forget, he did not serve as head coach for the Phil Martelli Charity Classic

Hardaway Sr and his barely-on beanie were a Crisler staple

Josh Wallace was a spring transfer, wasn't he?
Never forget
Different language, same program
even a broken clock is right 6 consecutive times
Good point, the trajectory of this program would be entirely different had Juwan not undergone major surgery four months ago.
It's Feb and we love content, I'll allow it

Have we reached a new low on sources? No, no... we're just getting started
Wile E Coyote year 0. If there's a drop-off in staff, I doubt it's super evident on the field in 2024
wish granted, he just did
Only in death may we consider a statue (please), but this man has earned a hypothetical statue.
This board has been stuffed with nonsense since 48hrs post-championship. But this, this is a worthy CC
By this logic a 30+ loss should bring Jim back from LA
All of the UFRs and game recaps included IN PRINT TO LIVE FOREVER would be so sweet
Unless he has some guarantee from Jim, if you want to be an NFL DC you probably don't want to depend on Jim getting/taking a job to get one yourself
Sort NFL teams by best to worst QB room, then filter out teams not hiring a head coach right now. That's what puts LAC on top
Vrabel is an elite get, Belicheck probably has another 6 rings left in him, and Minter is wildly overrated. Am I missing anything?
Don't forget it's a real conference championship game now too. 3 game schedule!
Many men have taught us this lesson. We need a baseball hall of fame type rule... No bronze until 5 years after retirement (from earth)
With how the D is shaping up on paper (pending coaching carousel), elevating the floor at QB is a big deal. A 2021 Cade would do just fine here

Did you click the link? With this fund specifically they're trying to raise $10m, just $1m of which is crowd sourced like this.
+1400 Any other NFL or NCAA team

this is fine, put Sanderson on rowing team duties until Juwan is ousted and bring him back
we could win 5 straight championships and load the NFL draft every year, and there would still be the take that he just couldn't recruit
QB, WR, RB all checked off in the off-season wish list.
Lane Kiffen sitting by his phone waiting for Bama's AD to make it to the Yakich Line
Have to imagine it's more about networking with scouts and coaches rather than a competitive senior bowl championship
$18.99 on wish, Stalions may have his before the players
Stalions should get a statue next to Jim's that can only be seen in certain light at certain angles

Agree with you here, I'm really only a fan of Moore taking the reigns if Minter is the DC. That's the retain the culture play.
Yes, this fund is actually for Jim

Quick google and I see him in some NFL mocks for early day 3, top half of the 4th round
