Devin Gardner knew what he was doing in this situation. He knew the cameras were on, so he went out on the field and made the moment about him. He took attention away from THE TEAM and we lost the game. That's the type of person he is and that's why he lost so many games at Michigan. A real competitor and sportsman doesn't do this. They seek the injured player out after the game and send their condolences in a private manner. It's the same idea for Gardner posting thousands of pictures at the hospital. That's great, he should visit the hospital. You know what? Hundreds of other Michigan athletes do the same and don't post hundreds of pictures, because they understand why they are at the hospital: not for promoting themselves but helping the kids. Stop glorifying Devin Gardner
No question. But he's kicking ass on his way to another ring and you guys are glorifying a guy on a 2-10 team. And then you guys wonder why this program is in the shitter. Figure it out
Yes, there is a problem. It's the same reason of linemen on both sides of the ball haven't lived up to potential. There is a significant difference between Big ten and MAC athletes
I have posted about this before, but Under Armour would be bad for John Beilein and the basketball team. AAU basketball and recruiting is dirty and Nike runs the top flight of AAU. As a basketball fan, I want Nike
Bob Griese getting choked up in the booth when Brian Griese is announced as most outstanding player in the 98 Rose Bowl game (97 season). I was watching the game with my dad. My best Michigan memory, no doubt
I've posted about this before. We need to get back to Nike. It hurt us big time with Booker. Nike pays AAU coaches more/less depending in if their featured player goes to a Nike school. Most top AAU programs are Nike. There were a few articles about how surprising it was that Kam Chatman chose an Adidas school. There are some other exceptions (Wiggins), but I wouldn't count on those consistently. It's dirty, but you have play the game.
The Maize Rage core (or whatever they are called) owes an apology to those students. That's what it comes down to. Student basketball seating is first come, first serve. This looks like a pretty obvious attempt by the group that has enough time to meet on Monday nights to ensure the best possible seats for themselves and they should take ownership or be reprimanded.
I can also see some beef with the AD as they did not make it clear that camping out would not be allowed, when it has been in the past.
Crean's defensive gameplan was extremely unique according to Beilein. I don't see how you can say they used the same gameplan. Again, I'm not saying he's a bad coach, just didn't have it today. Not sure why that's wrong...
You are correct sir. Beilein echoed all of this in his press conference. Defense was bad, but it hasn't been good all year. Poor offense cost us the game
That's fair. Probably should have worded it differently. I think you still need to give credit to Crean for his defensive game plan, because Beilein admitted that he couldn't make adjustments to counter it
Listen to Beilein's press conference. He says for himself that Indiana was doing stuff on defense that he didn't know how to solve. Doesn't mean he is a bad coach, just means he couldn't get it going today and I'm sure he knows he can't let it happen again
Crean's coaching came on the defensive end; we scored 52 points on offense. Our defense wasn't really the problem. Beilein said all this stuff in his press conference.
He might know everything there is to know about basketball, but you have to admit that his end of game management (usually the most important part of the game) is sloppy. Calls a timeout for Pitino and then lets them get an easy shot. Good coach, but there obviously needs to be more time devoted in practice to end of game situations. You shouldn't have to call a timeout there; your players should know how to defend in that situation because you have practiced it repeatedly.
Wish I could upvote you; because yes, that was unforgivable. That stuff loses games. You have to practice those situations, so there is no need for a timeout
Remember though, Blake Griffin sat out his entire first year in the NBA with an injury. But it does happen quite often. Kevin Durant is the next most recent I believe.
Ridiculous because it's true. The highest level of AAU basketball is completely run and funded by shoe companies. Nike sponsors the most tournaments and teams. Adidas sponsors as well, but Nike is the biggest player. You think inner city Chicago kids have the money to fly to tournaments across the country every other weekend during the summer?
John Beilein is a good coach, not sure he is a hall of famer like Pitino.
I'm not saying you can't get good recruits with adidas, it's just a lot easier with Nike. For example, Anthony Davis played for an AAU team called Mean Streets, coached by our own Tai Streets. Tai would have loved to pitch Michigan to Davis, but didn't because his team would have lost a good amount of money from Nike (complete speculation on the number but I'm guessing around $10,000 maybe even as much as $20,000 if you consider what Streets' team gained when Davis chose Kentucky). Tai is a true Michigan man, but AAU is a dirty business and you have to play the game with your sponsors if you want to stay at the highest level.
Michigan needs Nike for basketball recruiting. All top AAU programs are Nike. AAU coaches gain/lose money from Nike based on whether or not their players go to Nike school. We got lucky with guys like McGary, Robinson, and others because they didn't play on the Nike EYBL circuit. I am convinced that Nike played a big part in us losing Booker. Under Armour would be the death of the basketball program..
They also led Big Ten title teams. I guess I'm just old school in the fact that I believe a legacy at Michigan is defined by conference and national championsips and not much else. Denard did a lot of great things, but its hard to compare him to those two

DAVE, DON'T SCREW UP IN 2017
You get it. Mitch is not coming back - too much risk. I think he and Glenn want to go out together. Nik is definietely going, as he should.
A ton of people camped out before Indiana last year, including the Maize Rage core

Get it right in the future.
Great game. Go Blue!
Luke Fickell. LOL. Hope they keep him around

Make him 2 stars for all I care. The kid is a good football player and seems to have toughness. What else matters?
Didn't mean to take anything away from Griffin. He was the last to attain both. Guess I was just pointing out his situation was somewhat unique.
Remember though, Blake Griffin sat out his entire first year in the NBA with an injury. But it does happen quite often. Kevin Durant is the next most recent I believe.
The expectation is on the position not the player. - Bo Schembechler
This is Michigan. No excuses. Next man up.

Anyone else. I'd happily take an idiot like Lane Kiffin at this point.
