|06/12/2018 - 1:29pm||Got it yesterday at work,…||
Got it yesterday at work, knew I'd typed my beloved (and rememberable) password correctly, changed browsers, same thing. But of course that made the statement true: two failed login attempts is too many. Two more failed attempts at home (at night and this morning).
But lo, back at work, and no problem.
Best of luck in the de-glitching.
|05/03/2018 - 11:13pm||Not a parent, but I've been a daughter of two||
So I can imagine what you're going through. Perhaps I'm fortunate that I didn't read this thread until late this evening and got to your good news 2/3 of the way down. Continued good wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
|04/28/2018 - 1:08pm||Mo was listed as #1 undrafted on ABC's list until now...||
Just looked up to see he's been moved down to #4 after an hour. So the guys who moved ahead of him weren't yet drafted but somehow became better bets? Maybe because they figure he should have been drafted earlier and since he hasn't been...
|04/05/2018 - 10:43pm||Guess I tuned in just in time.||
That was fun.
|03/22/2018 - 3:52pm||Legend of Poole||
We come to play school.
Among other things.
|03/18/2018 - 2:51pm||Metaphoric High-Five||
2 arms, 2 legs and... Oh, all the rest. Or maybe 5 scores counting in each event. OK, a bit of a stretch. Of course they also do that very well.
|03/12/2018 - 4:58pm||I'm not a doctor, but I played one at the Word Processor||
(Yes, that long ago.) Worked for the Neurology Dept. in "a major NYC research hospital," and I remember a review paper by the Chief of the Pain Service about alternative treatments for pain. What I remember [besides a negative of appraisal of the use of controlled drugs because their addictive qualities outweighed their benefits compared to other available modalities] was mention of acupuncture, with research beginning to explore why it seemed to help some people. The placebo effect? Possibly something about release of endorphins?
So I was curious about the current state of research. Here's the summary paragraph at the NIH website:

Hmm. Now I'm going to have to revise my based-upon-absolutely-nothing conspiracy theories of why Wheatley left.
|03/03/2018 - 1:23pm||After what he's gone through and what he's given...||
Hard to think positively, but better to know than not to know, and it's his hard work & dedication that put him in the position of finding out now, when whatever it is can be taken care of. We're all pulling for you, Mo!
|03/02/2018 - 2:37pm||Hmm... My computer said 2:33 just as I read this...||
Now 2:34 and the audio hasn't started yet. (MGoBlue.com) The ad played a while ago... And the graphic has been showing "The event is starting..." for many minutes... (Keeping up their elipses...)

|02/28/2018 - 10:51pm||True. Also tix are sold for a 2-game "session"||
And most won't go to both games. So there will be empty seats even in the high-demand games. Picked up my ticket at StubHub this evening and they actually had a young human who was happy to listen to my problems with their website last night. He said I wasn't alone, and it wasn't my browser (I tried two). Said the site was running unusually slowly because of the high ticket demand. Lots of Michigan fans/alumni in the NYC area, and I for one am thrilled I get to see this group live.
But I can certainly understand the oddness and inconvenience for most of the fan base.

competing (I think even in the event when he tore it), and was known for his incredibly high energy/enthusiasm whether injured or not, it's understandable the entertainment world might come calling.

Will now add your greeting.
Mentioned in the article:
One of his Music School buddies plays contrabassoon at the Met. (Not that I know if there's a contra part in the score...)
|02/11/2018 - 12:53pm||Adding a Men's Gym Update||
First, thanks, WD for giving this full report on the women. Losing Olivia Karas last week was a major blow, collapsing near the end of what seemed like a perfect floor routine with a ruptured Achilles tendon. (She was 2017 Big Ten Champion on the event.) But this week she was seen rooting her teammates on from her wheelchair, heavily wrapped leg extended. Thought I'd use this opp. to catch up on the men's team, off this week in preparation for next week's national Winter Cup event, the watch-meet for naming the US senior & junior teams.
The men have had to deal with a slew of major injuries, but the injured are gradually working their way back and the highly ranked freshmen are stepping up, enough so that after starting the season #7, they've already upset Ohio State (last year's #2) and suprising (defending and current) #1 Oklahoma the week before by leading for the first few events before falling (literally) on both bar events, M is now #3 nationally and #1 in the Big Ten. (Against OSU they stayed on both bars. Convincingly.)
The men have had to deal with a spate of major injuries to many of their top performers over the last couple years, but the injured are starting to make it back, and back into form, only to have 2-time NCAA vault champion Anthony McCallum go down last week in his first routine. Fortunately, like the women, they have highly ranked freshmen who are getting a chance to step up. In only his second meet, freshman (and Michigan native) Jacob Moore won NCAA & B1G freshman of the week, setting the season's highest floor score in the NCAA so far this season. (Nice to read that fellow freshman, #1 recruit Cameron Bock, is known for his skill on bars.)

|01/16/2018 - 1:57pm||It's a very common mistake||
Both effect and affect can be verbs as well as nouns. And both as verbs and nouns they mean different things, but related things, which adds to the confusion.
Autocorrect can probably screw up one's intent, but I think most of us who know the difference still have to stop and think about it before we effect a boo-boo. Still shouldn't affect your appreciation of the article's subject matter. [Did I do that right?]
|01/16/2018 - 1:42pm||It's actually nice to know you DIDN'T know the history||
Encouraging to think that what was once such a good, specific, and complimentary word for someone who was able to put words together spontaneously and cogently (assuming intelligence, but something more) could re-enter normal usage. It was always meant to be a compliment, but its "code word" usage turned that around, implying an element of surprise.
It would probably say something about the growth of our society if we could use it again as a good old-fashioned expression of admiration.
|01/16/2018 - 1:06pm||But you can teach it and coach it||
Whether or not he gets back on the game field, he's already been such a positive mentor, and having him dressed on the sideline and ready to go if needed has got to be good for the team as a whole.
|01/15/2018 - 12:21am||Just heard on the local NYC sports report||
They implied that he turned down the Giants. Sportscaster lead-in something about spurning a three-time Super Bowl winner for Detroit. According to them, he’s good friends with somebody at the Lions. [Sorry, wasn’t taking notes, so not sure who.]

|01/11/2018 - 1:40pm||Named both you and a dear friend/fellow CFS traveler||
...so a cause that means a lot to me. And thought I brought you over the top! But came back to see your update at the bottom. Now someone else has a chance to bring you over the new top. And someones else to pass over the next.
I've watched my buddy's frustration with the many doctors (and even former roomates) that think it's all in her head, and whenever I send her links to articles of new research and (almost as important) new acknowledgment of the reality of the disease, she sighs, knowing that it still doesn't change the reality. As her upstairs neighbor, I see her on her good days, walking her dog and smiling, chatting with the fellow dog-walkers, or on her good evenings when she might come up to chat and join me in watching a DVD. But when I want to invite her to join me as my guest for something at a date in the future, she can never be sure how she'll feel that day and doesn't want me to waste an opportunity I could share with someone else.
Was just going to call and see how she feels today so she could join me for a film I know she wants to see. It's warmed up a bit here in NYC, so maybe she'll be in the mood to venture out.
All my best to you, Ace. I've paid close attention to your situation, whether or not I knew the full diagnosis, because I have food intolerances that I didn't know about or understand during my childhood. A much lesser problem than yours, but I understood the feeling that it had to be all in my head, because I was the only one in my large family who got food poisoning after dinner. Of course we didn't talk about the symptoms in those long-ago days, and the major mystery culprit was a very common bland food that you eat when you HAVE a stomach ache. Thanks to UofM's Allergy Clinic, I finally figured it out. My college roommate had "normal" food allergies-- i.e., histamine reactions that are more obvious, with rashes and danger of anaphylactic shock, rather than the prostaglandin reactions that cause "digestive distress." She came back from the clinic once to tell me she and the doc were talking about unusual food allergies, and he said "I have a patient who's even allergic to potatoes!!!" How nice to know I was special. And even nicer to know it was something so easily fixed. Stop eating potatoes. (And the other things I eventually figured out.) And knowing that it wasn't all in my head.
CFS is so much more complex and debilitating. Here's to spreading awareness and, of course, finding a cure.

Heard only part of the Lions game this afternoon, but they showed a shot of Jake on the bench, and I could've sworn they said he was calling the Michigan high school championship. Did I hear correctly?

|11/13/2017 - 11:28am||Add in some Special Teams Stats (rookie showcase)||
Not listed on their individual page stats for some reason; these from team stats page:
Jabrill: 8 kick returns for total of 161 yds; 19 punt returns, 6.3 yds average
Jehu: 1 kick return for 20 yds, 2 special teams tackles
Amara: ? - Seahawks site doesn't list complete special teams stats*, but a "number-of-snaps" report per game: This week Amara was in for 40% of WR snaps (up from 17% the week before) and 33% of special teams snaps. *Though they list kick return yardage by player, they only give a total team yardage for punt returns.
|11/10/2017 - 9:26pm||Yeah, it's real exciting to hear M making a goal||
when the camera is over the head of our lonely goalie on the other side of the rink.
|11/06/2017 - 11:53am||I was formerly a Giants fan||
But that's because I didn't pay any attention to the NFL before I got to NYC, and the Giants always seemed to have at least one M player on the roster. Amani Toomer was there then, so I had valid rooting interests. None on the roster now, which I guess is good timing for me beause so many other teams have M players to pay attention to.
However rooting for the Cowboys is still abhorrent. Was so troubled when they drafted some of my favorite players, because I still have to root for my guys. Fortunately Chesson was playing for the Chiefs, so rooting for him seemed to balance things.
