Major tournament with Tiger making his first real move on the leaderboard in over a decade and three comments.

If anybody in MGoManagement needed proof for just how user unfriendly the new site is for posting on the side board here it is.

Just our fucking luck. The ONE thing not lost in the transition to Mgo3.0 is the relentless pursuit of the having the shittiest shit-post prior to the end of OT season.

If WD is an honorary old man I must be an honorary dead man.

I wasnt referring to our chances of winning (although my memory of our night game performance is different than yours obviously....Iowa (cough, cough), Penn State (cough, cough), Notre Dame.....

I was referring to the prospect of 75,000 or so wacked-out, drunken jugallos vs advances in western civilization.

The long-awaited release of Draftegeddon.

Well if this doesnt calm down the rabble-rousers here, nothing will.

07/18/2018 - 9:18am Lot to unpack here so I…

Lot to unpack here so I think I'll just tackle your points one-by-one:

1. The ONLY person in blog management talking is Seth.  God love him for trying but Brian has been completely silent to date on any of the issues.  I've been part of bad rollouts like this before (unfortunately) and the key to keeping people even somewhat happy during the transition is over-communicating what the hell is going on.  That hasnt happened at all IMO so we're left to wonder what they consider problematic and when things will get fixed.

2. I dont ever remember even making one comment on the need for a new site so I'm not sure how or where you got the idea I was at the forefront of the revolution.  My only complaint was back in the 2013-14 era when voting got eliminated and chaos reigned.  Other than that I dont think I've ever made a comment one way or the other on the site itself.  I may have needled them about the slow roll-out (as did many others) but as far as asking for a new site - not me.

3. The "unwelcomed" feeling has to do with what I perceive as a conscience effort to reduce side board activity which is where I basically live.  This new site was all about making the front page better and little, if any, thought seemed to have been given to the side board posts.  Heck they even made the comment that the vast majority of visitors never comment at all so it sure seems to me that MgoBlog 3.0 was designed for that group - not me and the others here on the board.

4. The political stuff doesnt bother me at all.  Brian's site - Brian's rules.  I just dont bother reading it cause I know which side of the aisle he and the rest of MgoManagement fall on and I dont share their world view.

07/18/2018 - 8:45am Sorry you feel that way.  If…

Sorry you feel that way.  If it makes you feel any better I can vote and I too feel like an "unwanted outsider" just like you.  The almost complete dearth of any communication from the leadership on what's going on (except for Seth) when it's painfully obvious people do not like this at all makes me think Huel has convinced MGoLeadership that us sheeple are just too unrefined to realize how great this new site is and too patient cause we're all going to come to LOVE IT.

07/17/2018 - 10:34pm Very well put and I must…

Very well put and I must confess it definitely captures where I'm with the new site.

As someone else stated earlier in this thread I really don't feel welcomed anymore.

07/17/2018 - 7:38pm Way, way, way less.

But if…

Way, way, way less.

But if the changes Seth posted today in the sticky thread actually happen (I told him they should bump those to front page) that will prolly change as well.

They are fixing most of the issues we are having.  It's good news!

07/17/2018 - 4:27pm FWIW we are in the same boat…

FWIW we are in the same boat blog-wise.  And I took the step about 30 minutes ago of emailing and URGING Seth to bump this update to the front page.  If they actually do get the stuff fixed as he outlined they will address about 90% of the stuff people on this side of the void hate about the site right now.  This update, if accurate, is very, very good news.

And only us hard-core optimists are reading these sticky updates - the vast majority of the board doesnt even seem to know it exists.

07/17/2018 - 3:02pm The more things change, the…

The more things change, the more things stay about exactly the same.  Let's take a look at Michigan's basketball attendance averages and national ranking through the years

78-81 (my four years - no NCAA tourny invites)

  • 78-7th,   13,496
  • 79-7th,   14,865
  • 80-20th, 10,960
  • 81-19th, 11,658

Now let's look at the Frieder glory days.  Ranked #1 several times, lots of fun to watch this team play

  • 85-19th, 11,769
  • 86-13th, 13,609
  • 87-16th, 12,241
  • 88-18th, 13,801
  • 89-19th, 12,838

Now lastly lets look at the heyday of the Fab 5.  We certainly MUST'VE packed the gym to watch those guys play no?

  • 1992 - 24th, 12,396
  • 1993 - 18th, 13,734
  • 1994 - 29th, 12,166

We've been talking about this since before I enrolled and will likely be talking about it when you guys are also mgrowold like me.  But at the end of the day we operate in a pretty tight window of attendance (high of 14,865 by sophomore year and low of 10,960 my junior year) and usually in the high teen, low 20's ranked nationally.

07/17/2018 - 2:36pm Penn State - Unbelievable…

Penn State - Unbelievable instances of sexual abuse and subsequent cover-up

Michigan State - Thought it couldnt get any worse

Ohio State - "Hold my beer"

"The lawsuit also alleges that Ohio State University has had possession of the naked photos for almost four years and "no action has been taken."

During a meet in August 2014 in Knoxville, Tenn., the girl's teammate informed the head coach of the Ohio State Diving Club about the abuse, the lawsuit alleges. The girl, who had just turned 17, was sent home. Bohonyi stayed.

“The Ohio State University has no interest in hurting their brand," Little said in the interview. "This is part of a massive problem at Ohio State that’s not just isolated to Dr. Strauss."

Several former Ohio State wrestlers said Richard Stauss, a team doctor who committed suicide in 2005, abused them during medical treatments going back to the 1970s."

Hope you boys like triple option football.

Exactly right OP.  And when that lazy ass dude gets done setting up that new channel for us with those sweet big-game videos we've been missing they need to make us a fucking sandwich.

MgoBlog allowed me one "told you so" on this subject.  Interestingly my cat just posted the comment above by stepping on my computer and due to the lack of editing functionality the only way i could "fix" it was to respond to my own post.

I mean who could've seen something like this coming?  Totally shocking bit of news given that we all agreed that the guy would surely fire both Dantonio & Izzo immediately due to their horrible transgressions.

07/16/2018 - 5:24pm In fairness to the goats…

In fairness to the goats though have you ever seen a company make shitty food look so insanely delicious?  I swear to God they could make me want to buy a turd burger with the way they do their video work.

07/16/2018 - 4:17pm Remember the good old days…

Remember the good old days when we used to talk about football, basketball, hockey and when WD was fully engaged, the non-revenue sports played at Michigan?

Pepperidge Farms remembers.

07/16/2018 - 4:02pm That's very good news that I…

That's very good news that I had not heard before now.  But yes, a bit odd they not only have to "figure out" how to change the background color and even odder, to me anyways, that nobody thought the cavernous amount of white space was a problem prior to release.

07/16/2018 - 3:44pm Other end of the age…

Other end of the age spectrum but share your hopeful optimism.  What's more than a bit concerning, though, is communication, at least regarding the bug-fixes, has stopped.  Go look at the sticky page on the subject and you'll see that there is nothing new posted on the following:

1. Unable to edit

2. Cant up or down vote thread creators

3. Cant post video or gifs without uploading to computer

4. Preferences not saved

5. Not returned to position in thread when making comment - instead deposited at end of thread and have to work way back to where you were

6. Front page "continue reading" puts user back at beginning of article and not where post ended

7. Points may or may not be working anymore

8. Some users still cant vote for reasons unknown

To me though the bigger issue is the layout itself - WAY too much white space in post and way too much real estate given to the top banner which makes it really hard to have a discussion cause you cant see the post above or below what you are typing and that's not going to get fixed - that was done by design.

07/16/2018 - 3:03pm FWIW I just checked my…

FWIW I just checked my Galaxy 8 to see what was displayed.

Tile #1 is "Friday recruiting changes the deal".  Posted Friday, July 13th at 3:41pm.  Picture only.

Once I scroll down past that nice picture then I see there is a new post up " USA 2022: Attackers" but unless I scrolled down past the Friday post I'd never know it was there. This is now displaying the full text so I needed to scroll way to the "read more" button but when I click through I'm shown the full article again (not just the unread portion) and am placed at the top of the article I presumably just read 8 paragraphs of.

Then under that is a tile again on "Maximizing Jon Teske's offense" with most of the article displayed.

If somebody can explain why a three day old post is shown in the #1 position and not the post created less than an hour ago I'd love to hear the rationale.  Cause until you posted this thread I had no idea something new was up on the front page of the site.

07/16/2018 - 2:25pm OP I eagerly await your…

OP I eagerly await your creation of a thread on "GOAT of GOAT".  Certainly there's room for discussion on what is the greatest, great of all time no?

But hey - mad props for you for trying to keep a conversation alive in here.

07/15/2018 - 10:09am The definition of defame …

The definition of defame (which the new site won't allow me to copy and past anymore) is "to damage the GOOD reputation of someone or something.  To libel or slander "

I think you're safe here.

07/12/2018 - 11:50am Based on the voting when…

Based on the voting when somebody complains about the site, the lack of comments in virtually all posts (save this one) and the few threads being created it would certainly appear I'm not alone in disliking the new site young man.

07/12/2018 - 9:56am Not since Cavs lost.

Not since Cavs lost.

Since MGoBlog decided the board denizens had little to no value economically to the site so they created one that would actively discourage conversation.

I've moved from active poster, to lurker to infrequent visitor.

07/11/2018 - 3:22pm Imagine a GIF of George from…

Imagine a GIF of George from Sienfield sitting at a desk talking to his boss.  In that GIF George is saying "Is that wrong?  Was I not suppose to do that?" over and over while his boss shakes his head in disgust.

Seeing as our new and improved MGoBlog doesnt easily accomidate GIFs that's the best I can offer.  But you guys have active imaginations and probably have already seen the GIF before so it's practically the same thing.

07/10/2018 - 5:12am Really Stephen-many are…

Really Stephen-many are being worked on"?

Go to the Sticky thread and show me which ones I mentioned in my Howard Beal-ish rant are prioritized for a fix.  Cause I see exactly one-editing-as being identified for repair-someday.  It's not high on the list and to my aging eyes nothing else i mentioned is seen as a problem needing to be fixed.

Look at the comments around my post and the voting.  Maybe the vast majority of visitors here think this new site is wonderful but the people like you and me who used to post regularly hate it.  And we're way beyond "it's just now you're going to LOVE it" phase.  Way past.

Its ass.

07/09/2018 - 5:39pm Coke went "backwards" cause…

Coke went "backwards" cause as dumb as new coke was it would've been even dumber to stay with a recipe their customers disliked.

Smart companies go backwards all the time.

07/09/2018 - 4:36pm And now that I re-read your…

And now that I re-read your comment I realize that you never claimed that the front page was better, just more important.  So if I had the ability to edit (which I dont) I'd fix that so my response to your comment made sense.  But because I dont have that functionality anymore I've got to create an entirely new post to clarify the error in my response instead of just fixing the error I made.

Once was was easy (embedding video, GIFs, editing comments, having a discussion with somebody, etc) is now fucking virtually impossible.

07/09/2018 - 4:33pm But is the front page …

But is the front page "better"?  Graphics seem better but the tile layout makes zero sense to me.  I just opened up the site on my phone (my normal viewing vehicle when not at work) and I get "MgoPodcast", then the post from Ace on Basketbullets then back to the MgoPodcast.  How on earth is that "better"?

I can see no possible benefit or presenting to the user the same tile link identically twice and sometimes I'll get something much older first, then something newer, than finally the newest front page post buried under two or three older posts.  How is that "better"?

07/09/2018 - 3:58pm God this new site is ASS.  …

God this new site is ASS.   Nobody (with one or two exceptions) can figure out how to embed anything and if you want to post a GIF you've got to download the fucking thing to your computer first.  We cant edit posts, cant vote on new threads, cant see but one or two comments max thanks to the volumous amount of white space and yes I know volumous is apparently spelled wrong but the stupid fucking spell check they used doesnt fix the just tells you it's spelled wrong.  How fucking stupid is that?

Comments on anything have been reduced to single digits in some cases meaning virtually all conversations have been stopped.  The last post to get over a 100 responses was about a week ago and that was on TV shows.  Shit, used to be you could get over 100 talking about kitchen cabinets - now you're lucky to get 25 in a World Cup thread.

The front page shows me posts from a week ago on my phone and and I have to scroll down to try and figure out if anything actually new has been posted.  To get to the Board I have to make four clicks and then I only see a handful of what's new cause the first tour or five listed are sticky's.  And if i do post anything (and these days I'm tranistioning from active poster to lurker to infrequent visitor) I can dropped on the last page of a the post and have to figure out where I left off.  My preferences dont hold so everytime I come here I have to tell this stupid version of MGoBlog that yes, I'd like to look at more than 50 posts please and yes, i'd like to sort them oldest to newest please.

Took Coca-Cola about three months to figure out back in the 80's that people HATED New Coke and they flipped back to their original recipe.  Just based on the number of comments alone (or lack thereof I've got to believe that new coke was more loved than this version of the web site is right now.

07/09/2018 - 12:46pm Neither running nor hiding…

Neither running nor hiding here.  I simply HATE this MGoBlog 3.0 and everything about it.  I've been thinking about the design this morning and have come to the conclusion that the objective was to shut down the board discussions without actually coming out and saying so cause most of the stuff people have been complaining about were done on purpose, not "bug fixes".

Look at the number of comments on any given post nowdays.  In the past you could start a thread on countertops and get 100 responses.  Now?  Start a thread on virtually anything and you're lucky to get 25 comments which basically kills any legitimate discourse on all issues.

So back to your comment.  I am pleased we have landed these recruits.  I would be more pleased if they ranked higher as a group but if these are the players Harbaugh and company be it.

07/02/2018 - 8:02am Except he's not saying it's…

Except he's not saying it's a good thing.  He said he's glad to not have to deal with the drama every year which I understand and agree with.

When Lebron came back to Cleveland he did so with a 1 year contract and a pledge to sign a longer-term deal that he never did.  Which meant every year we had to wonder will he stay or go cause even his 2 year deals had a player option.

Sad he's gone.  Appreciate 2016 and the finals runs.  Not mad this time around cause he delivered on the promise of a championship.

Wish he would've stayed.

06/30/2018 - 6:26pm Dude-i am me and have one…

Dude-i am me and have one and only one screen name and have used it for the past 9 years.

I know the thought that two or more people might share a dissenting opinion to yours is probably beyond your ability to process but trust me-that's where we are.

06/29/2018 - 9:48am No kidding.  I know I want…

No kidding.  I know I want to debate somebody but I have no fucking idea who and I can't tell if we're going to argue about recruiting or talking cars Tuesday.

Btw the ban comment, who ever made it, was funny.

Also btw, the new site blows

06/29/2018 - 7:31am Let's face it.  We're all…

Let's face it.  We're all being the kid in 4th grade who tried to convince the class (and more importantly themselves) that their mom's Dodge Caravan was actually WAY cooler than the Vette the dad of some other kid in class drove.

Didn't work then-wont work now.

06/28/2018 - 9:51am Thank you.  I miss her very…

Thank you.  I miss her very much - she was the nicest person I've ever met.

06/27/2018 - 10:50pm I actually started at CCF…

I actually started at CCF and then got referred to James.  They have one of the world's most accomplished surgeon/researcher on Carcinoid cancer there and the James Center is one of the world's four medical facilities that specializes in it's treatment.

Carcinoid cancer is nicknamed "the slow motion" cancer cause it metastizes at an insanely slow rate (that's the good news) but because it's asymtomatic it's usually misdiagnosed as irratiable bowl syndrome until it's too late.  The mortality rate for those diagnosed with Carcinoid cancer is near 90% because it's usually stage four before the patient even realizes they are sick.

As rare as my cancer is (less than 1 out of 300,000 people get it) I was caught a break in that the turmor grew in my intestine thereby causing pain when it blocked by poop.  95% or more people get it on their liver or their appendix where the only symptom is "flushing" and lower GI issues most commonly associated with IBS.  So I was both unlucky in getting it and lucky in getting it where it grew so they were able to remove it before it did too much damage.  The bad news is the cancer did spread to my lymph nodes before it was diagnosed - the good news is it hasnt reappeared since my treatment back in 2008.

Cant stand their football team.  Couldnt live without their cancer center.

Oh....and one other thing.  My sister passed away from an "undiagnosed" cancer (could never find the source) two years ago.  She lived in Dexter and was treated at University of Michigan.

06/27/2018 - 2:54pm I agree.  How DARE he take a…

I agree.  How DARE he take a job at OSU and not sit unemployed hoping we'll offer him something.  He has his nerve.

By the way....if that pisses you off the fact that I got treated (successfully) for Carcinoid Cancer at the James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State ought to really get me on your shit list.

06/27/2018 - 1:31pm The World Cup used to be my…

The World Cup used to be my one and only time to really get engaged in watching soccer.  I must confess I would watch nervously when the US was in it and definitely got into the sport, at least for this brief window of time every four years.

But with us not playing it's very hard for me to give two shits about the outcomes.  It's like the dark years from 1999 through 2009 when Michigan didnt make the NCAA tourny.   I'm sure there was great basketball being played it's just I couldnt get excited to watch it cause my team wasnt playing.

06/27/2018 - 9:44am Exactly the same here.  I…

Exactly the same here.  I sent Seth an email telling him I was basically transitioning from active poster to lurker cause the new site just wasnt very much fun anymore.   Like you my site traffic has crashed from virtually constant at work and sometimes at home to sometimes at work and never at home.

The new site may be awesome for MgoManagement but it definitely sucks balls for the great unwashed like us.  And it's killing the side board traffic and posts.

06/26/2018 - 7:22pm What he said.

What he said.

06/26/2018 - 4:50pm Not really.   What they…

Not really.   What they confused is where Dwan Mathis originally committed thinking it was us, not them.

BTW - am I the only one who hates the fact that threads now only have links and not pictures they way they used to when we had the old, crappy website instead of this awesome new one?

06/26/2018 - 2:46pm I'll bet you're one of those…

I'll bet you're one of those guys who looks at a woman and thinks "her boobs are too big".

06/26/2018 - 12:21pm He forgot to mention that on…

He forgot to mention that on top of all that Greg has a twinkling smile, ripped abs and an ass to die for.

06/26/2018 - 12:08pm Close but to me more like…

Close but to me more like the arguement between "flat earthers" and the scientific community.  One side has mounds and mounds of statistical evidence to back up the claim that ratings matter.

The other side has anecdotal, one-off examples of why rating dont matter.

I also disagree that both sides are entrenched.  The dirty secret (hiding in plain sight IMO) is that even those who claim "ratings dont matter" are very quick to point out Michigan is now 2nd in the B1G in recruiting and in the top 10 nationally.   Why would that matter if ratings dont matter?

Let Michigan sign a 5 star recruit and then count how many "but ratings dont matter" posts get made.

06/26/2018 - 11:59am 1. I was a volunteer

1. I was a volunteer

2. There were no recruiting rankings to follow back then

3. I left because the recruiting coordinator at the time, Bob Chmiel left Michigan to go to Notre Dame.  Chmiel was a friend of the family and the new recruiting coordinator had their own people he wanted to use.

Look I get that some people, in the face of overwhelming statistical evidence to the contrary, want to believe that star ratings dont matter.  Some people believe the earth is flat too.
