FWIW I worked two years as a bouncer at the V Bell.

Good times...

06/21/2018 - 10:17am Another piece of my Michigan…

Another piece of my Michigan college experience gone.  Kinda sad to be honest.

My memory of Moe's was they always had real nice stuff, it was expensive, but nice.  I worked across the street at the Bivoac but used to like to check out what M gear they had in stock.

My niece worked there for three years back in the mid 90's when she was in school so I always got the good stuff from here then (and with a nice employee discount).

Oh well...things change.

06/21/2018 - 12:04am As someone who generally…

As someone who generally defends maizen/bluey I must say that was really well stated Sten.

Excellent points all.

06/20/2018 - 7:07pm I do like that and yes, lack…

I do like that and yes, lack of attention to Ohio (and Michigan too FWIW) while we chased a pipe dream with satellite camps is biting is in the ass hard right now.

Recruiting is almost exclusively built on relationships and you can't build them in your backyard while your 1500 miles away in buttfuck Alabama trying to get rufus t bumwoody jr to come further north than he's ever seen on a map.  That's my #1 complaint.  Lack of attention to our traditional recruiting grounds has hurt us badly and burned out the coaching staff too I'll bet.

06/20/2018 - 6:18pm You really don't understand?…

You really don't understand?  This place HATES bad news and especially hates accurate and factual bad news.

So rather than discuss the problem (and news flash here guys-our recruiting IS a problem) the mob would rather attack the poster who  pointed it out.

It's pretty damn predictable

06/20/2018 - 11:08am Can you point me to the …

Can you point me to the "whine & complain" portion of my post?  I'm damned if I can find it and I've now looked several times.

My theory, not that anybody asked, is that the satellite camp concept backfired badly.  We werent able to pull the kids from down south like Harbaugh hoped, we wasted time we could've been working on developing relationships with kids closer to home and we burned out our coaching staff in the process.

06/20/2018 - 9:09am I agree with your take on…

I agree with your take on Peters.  I think he's getting unfairly criticized given the situation he was put in and think if he doesnt get injured against Wisconsin we probably beat OSU.

On the other hand I dont agree with you that this rating indicates all is well on the recruiting circuit for Michigan. Mock Maizen/Bluey if you will but he fact remains I dont think any of us envisioned a world in which year four of Harbaugh would yield such lackluster results recruiting-wise in-state and nationally.  Are you personally happy with having the 18th best class in the country?

More importantly - do you think Harbaugh is?   My guess is he's not happy with it....not at ALL happy.....which is why the staff got shaken up as it did.  If Harbaugh thought everything was ticketee-boo why make any changes?

06/19/2018 - 2:59pm No I didnt post it.  I sent…

No I didnt post it.  I sent it directly to Seth instead.  But because the edit feature no longer exists I couldnt add that essential nugget to my post that I forget to write.

Take your post, expand it by a ton of words that probably arent that necessary, toss in some personal life examples of change from your past that nobody but you probably cares about and you've got it.

06/19/2018 - 2:00pm Well put.  I actually…

Well put.  I actually created a fairly long diary post today talking about my movement from being an active poster to being a lurker, largely due to the site just not being fun anymore.  You absolutely nailed the reasons why it isnt IMO.

It's like they fixed a whole lot of stuff that wasnt broken and broke a whole lot of stuff that worked just fine.

06/19/2018 - 1:55pm I get man ass too and I'm at…

I get man ass too and I'm at work so even if I wanted to look at man ass I couldnt (and I dont.....NTTAWWT) but there he is in all his tighty-whitey man ass glory.   True that my opportunities to date Asian, Russian, Arab, what-have-you girls has ground to a halt but the presence of ass man sort of negates that win.

06/19/2018 - 12:37pm Curious as to the selection…

Curious as to the selection of Henne as your 5 star QB over Drew Henson & Ricky Leach. If based on lifetime achievement at Michigan I'll take Leach over Henne all day long.  If based on a single season I'll take Henson in 2000 even though injuries shortened his season to 8 games over any single year Henne put up.

06/19/2018 - 9:55am As long as there's no…

As long as there's no fucking Dutch guys in the line we'll be just fine.

Those assholes ruin EVERYTHING.

Note: I would post the GIF from Austin Powers here about the Dutch but this new and improved website wants me to download it first to my work computer instead of just copying and pasting like we used to with old, crappy website.  And I really dont want to do that so you'll just have to imagine it right here.  Picture Mike Meyers, dressed up all in gold and sitting in a gold chair saying "there's only two things I cant stand in the world......"

06/16/2018 - 10:20am You captured my feelings…

You captured my feelings exactly.  What was once easy is now hard and I've got a lot more to do in life than fight with the layout of a message board to understand where things are.

It's been said before but I think it bears repeating-new MgoBlog was designed for better consumption of front page posts and is way, way worse for the board.  Which is where I used to spend 99% of my time.

God help the game day thread posters.  With this much engineered white space comments will be impossible to respond to with any accuracy.

06/13/2018 - 3:22pm A tough road just got a…

A tough road just got a whole lot tougher for him.  The timing of this could not possibly be worse - hope he recovers fully and I really hope he's made plans for a career that doesnt involve basketball cause my guess is, he's going to need it.

06/13/2018 - 12:52pm You think so?  Based on the…

You think so?  Based on the comments in this thread and others I see it more like a Maize & Blue/Waffle House debate.

06/13/2018 - 12:46pm I get that.  This is our…

I get that.  This is our world now, like it or not, and I agree - some of the things I listed are probably bug/fixes but due to the almost complete lack of communication I dont know if they are or not.  Here is my "best guess" (and I'm adding to my list user preferences not being saved)

1. Too much white space - design

2. Diaries improperly placed - design

3. Far too much scrolling required to read comments -design

4. Banner is too large - design

5. Cannot edit posts - bug/fix

6. Cannot up or down vote original posts - bug/fix

7. Cannot identify who created threads - bug/fix

8. Only 7 board thread identified on main page as opposed to 14 in old layout - design

9. Posting GIFs requires downloading to computer instead of cut/paste - design

10. Posting video also requires additional step of downloading first instead of imbedding code - design

11. After posting comment you are taken back to the original post and have to scroll back down to find place of comment instead of being placed back at where you started - bug/fix

12. No phone ap - design

13. No ability to create a subject line unique to the post - design

14. Spellcheck not enabled - bug fix

15. User preferences not saved - bug fix

My issue is only 6 of the issues I've raised can legitimately be claimed as bug/fixes.  The other nine were by DESIGN so highly, highly unlikely they will be changed in the near future if at all.

06/13/2018 - 12:27pm So what portions of the new…

So what portions of the new site do you like better?  Here are the negatives as I see them so far for the new version:

1. Too much white space

2. Diaries improperly placed

3. Far too much scrolling required to read comments

4. Banner is too large

5. Cannot edit posts

6. Cannot up or down vote original posts

7. Cannot identify who created threads

8. Only 7 board thread identified on main page as opposed to 14 in old layout

9. Posting GIFs requires downloading to computer instead of cut/paste

10. Posting video also requires additional step of downloading first instead of imbedding code

11. After posting comment you are taken back to the original post and have to scroll back down to find place of comment instead of being placed back at where you started

12. No phone ap

13. No ability to create a subject line unique to the post

14. Spellcheck not enabled

Those are just the ones that come quickly to mind.  I left off the log-in issues as those seem to have been resolved.   What are the positives, from a user perspective, I'm missing?  Maybe if you're able to present a corresponding list of all the good things this new site offers that I'm missing I'll feel differently about it.

06/13/2018 - 12:18pm True.

But you might find a…

But you might find a different dealer.

06/13/2018 - 12:07pm Really?  So you honestly…

Really?  So you honestly prefer being shown content that was posted as recently as one week ago and as old as two months ago on every visit?  And you like having to scroll past the old, static content to try and find the new stuff?

Not me.

06/13/2018 - 12:04pm Actually that raises a very…

Actually that raises a very good point.  For those posters who were active back during the first transition how was that received?  Did the move from 1.0 to 2.0 cause the same negative feedback initially or did people like it?  If the feedback was like it is now I get why Brian/Seth and the team would want to just ride out the storm until we get used to things.

But damn I am hard pressed to find ONE thing I like better about this version.  I mean not even one thing I think is superior and usually in conversions as big as this one here are several you can point to right off the bat, even if the site itself has issues.

My other question is "who were the beta testers?"  I would like to know if they gave positive feedback to the changes or what exactly did they see.

06/13/2018 - 11:55am Co-signed.

One positive…

One positive though that's happened through the transition is I've gotten a chance to meet a lot of the lurkers on the site.  People who havent posted much, if anything, for years, are now coming out in droves to voice their opinion on all these wonderful "improvements".

06/13/2018 - 11:42am If Michigan get's the #1…

If Michigan get's the #1 recruit with Beilein in charge Ed Martin will roll over in his grave.

Love coach B, may he live for all eternity, but the program he runs (one without bagman and other shenanigans) isnt set up to capture the "one and done" players at all.

And that's A-OK with me.

06/13/2018 - 11:37am Old

But then again I'm old…

But then again I'm old so probably not a breaking news story here

06/13/2018 - 10:50am Bingo.  The canary in the…

Bingo.  The canary in the coal mine is the raw number of comments on any given thread which is way, WAY down.  That can only mean one of two things IMO

1. As a group we have suddenly decided to become lurkers en masse.  Instead of posting comments we've all decided, simultaniously to stop posting.

2. It's really become hard to engage in a conversation now so most people are just going "fuck it" and are spending less time here.

FWIW something not mentioned, (and certainly not in the top 10 of problems) is the presence of a spell check technology that somehow lacks the ability to correct the error.  I've know, for example, I've misspelled "simultainously" cause it has a red line under it.  But i'll be damned if the site will tell me how to fix it.

That's just mean IMO.

06/13/2018 - 9:13am Maybe he wasnt paying close…

Maybe he wasnt paying close attention to our offseason and only has the OSU & South Carolina games fresh in his mind.  If so I get it.  He probably thought "Shit....even I could start for these guys"

06/12/2018 - 1:33pm Sort of same thing.  I…

Sort of same thing.  I created a user name WAY back in the day when I was just a lurker...say 2009ish, and when I do a password reset it brings that screen name back to life, not the one I've used for the past 9 years.

Still cant log on from phone.  Getting same error messages OP displayed.

Every morning I get locked out on my desktop with same error message but if I wait about an hour I can log in as normal with the password I've used for the past 9 years.  It doesnt work on the first entry but will work if I come back in an hour.  And I get the same "too may failed attempts....." pop up after one try at logging in.

Now granted I'm just a peddler by trade and not one of those ultra-brainy IT guys but it seems to me that any business model that makes it difficult for people to get into your "store" probably isnt the best idea.

06/12/2018 - 11:56am  I wish I knew how to embed…

I wish I knew how to embed pictures on this new and improved website.

06/12/2018 - 11:54am Depends on what you want…

Depends on what you want your game day experience to be.

1. If you want to sit with other Michigan fans buy the tickets through the university.  You'll pay face value and your seats wont be very good but you'll be surrounded by likeminded Wolverines for the afternoon.

2. If you want the best view of the game at the lowest cost buy your tickets through the secondary market.  Generally speaking Northwestern struggles to sell tickets so they are usually plenty available.  If you've got the stomach for it wait until the last minute to buy - ticket resellers start crashing prices about 2 hours before kickoff right up until gametime.  If you want the certainty of knowing you have a seat buy through Stubhub or another secondary ticket broker the week of the game.

Good luck and have fun!

06/12/2018 - 9:18am So pretty safe to say it's…

So pretty safe to say it's not quite "turned to gold" just yet?

06/11/2018 - 11:14pm Have you considered reaching…

Have you considered reaching out to local AA posters to have a meeting to get their feedback?.  I think you'd find it surprising.  Companies like mine have to pay a shit-ton of money to assemble a decent focus group but I'll bet you can pull one together in no time and with no cost.

I have to be honest, and this is going to sound harsher than I mean it to, but it  really seems like you guys have no idea what the end-user interface is like right now.  If somebody on the team hasnt done so already I would strongly suggest they create a user profile like one of us and see what it's like on this side.  It's pretty rough - especially when compared to how smoothly the old site worked (traffic surge outages notwithstanding) for us common folk.

06/11/2018 - 4:59pm Thanks-that's the one I had…

Thanks-that's the one I had picked out.  In the old world I used to know my way around gif & picture posting and could even embed a video or two.

Now?  I'm at new user-level knowledge and feel like I've accomplished something when I can log on successfully.

06/11/2018 - 4:55pm dont live… dont live anywhere near Ann Arbor now do you?

I vote you.

06/11/2018 - 4:42pm Without question.  But given…

Without question.  But given the complete dearth of communication up to this post from the MgoStaff to the great unwashed I figured something is better than nothing.

06/11/2018 - 4:34pm Unfortunately we no longer…

Unfortunately we no longer have the capability to edit posts so when I hit "reply" before finishing my thought I cant go back and fix it.

What I wanted to also say was thank you for trying to address issues with a post.  The silence has been deafening over here and you posting this is appreciated.  We just need a LOT more of these and covering different topics.

06/11/2018 - 4:30pm Seth:

I would humbly…

I would humbly suggest you take a look at the comments in XtraMelan's thread he posted Saturday asking for constructive criticism.  Between that thread and the one on the board right now on the Voting Question/Issue you'll see the majority of the acute issues people on this side of the great divide are having with the new site.

And to be very honest - this thread addressed none of them that I can see.

06/11/2018 - 2:51pm Ur right Mr. Glass Half-Full…

Ur right Mr. Glass Half-Full.  The lion lays down with the lamb, strange bedfellows and all that.

We are united indeed against a common foe.

And I agree with you 100% Bando on all counts.

Jesus there's a sentence you dont see me write everyday.  This thing really is a monster.

06/11/2018 - 2:32pm Same here as well.  Using…

Same here as well.  Using Chrome from my Galaxy 8 and desktop here at work.  For reasons unknown after waiting an hour or so it did accept my original password - the one it rejected initially and asked me to change.

06/11/2018 - 2:29pm Same here.  I figured it was…

Same here.  I figured it was just me they hated hence the insanely bad and disfunctional layout..   Now I know i'm not alone........

06/11/2018 - 2:26pm Same issue.   I have yet to…

Same issue.   I have yet to be able to successfully log on from my Galaxy 8 cause it says I havent entered my password correctly.  The password I'm entering incorrectly is the same password I've had here since 2010 and is my "go-to" password for any site I dont give two shits about being hacked cause the site doesnt store my CC #s or any personal information.

This morning I had the same experience on my desktop when I tried to log in.  After exactly ONE attempt I was told my IP was being shut down for attempting "too many log in attempts from this IP address" and I was instructed to change my password.  I tried that, (didnt work), but fortunately about an hour later my go to password DID work so I was able to get on.

Been through a ton of these web overhauls through the years and while they are ALWAYS disliked to some degree I do have to say I find it nothing short of amazing that MGoBlog has been completely silent on user feedback, punch lists for repairs or anything else related to the change for that matter.  Total radio silence.

I was fearful we'd be getting something like this when the joke page went up.  I think the powers that be and the team behind the redesign were laughing at us then and IMO they are laughing at us now.  Cause we dont understand how truly awesome this new site really is.

06/11/2018 - 1:07pm Sadly however my cool…

Sadly however my cool picture of a room full of people with an elephant in the room was removed.

You're looking LIVE at the MGoBlog writers meeting trying to decide what topic they should discuss next on the front page.

06/10/2018 - 10:19am That would be nice but I…

That would be nice but I dont think that's it.  I think that's referencing the "joke page" that went up during the transition to 3.0.

This is our new world.  But like you said (and I totally agree with you) this version has cured my MgoBlog addiction.  What was once a constant is now something I check once, maybe twice per day and feel little need to comment on cause what was once easy is now hard.

06/10/2018 - 10:14am Where to begin.....

Where to begin.....

First and foremost I realize two things:

1. I'm 58 so therefor NOT in the target demographic BC designed the site for

2. All changes of this magnitude are difficult for the end user.  I've been through multiple system "upgrades" like this at work so I'm well aware that it takes time for users to become comfortable again with a new layout and navigation.

That being said however I'm hard pressed to find even ONE thing I find superior in this version over the last.  I tried to respond to your comment on my phone but because I have an Android I cannot do so - since the change I've recieved an error message when logging in saying the password I've used for the past eight years is incorrect and I'm locked out for attempting too many log ins.  So I had to wait until I got my tablet to type this.

To find your comment I had to scroll down off the main page, select the board tab, select it again to bring up this thread which was now not one of the top 7, reselect "show 100 comments" (because that isnt saving on my tablet - I just get the first 50) then try and find the comment cause it's buried somewhere now near the back.  And because the icons are so small it was difficult to find you.

Based on the comments in this thread and more importantly the number of comments in general in any thread my guess is this transition is not being well recieved at ALL by the user community.  Even boring threads in the past would garner 50-60 replies, now it's 10-15 tops.  That right there is a clear indication that the traffic here has gone way down - I now my visits have plummeted from virtually constantly being on to only coming once or twice a day tops.  I could go on and on with "constructive criticism" cause there's a jillion things I dislike but most have already been posted.

I guess what makes me a bit sad is to follow your building analogy a bit further it's like the builder put the garage door on the roof, decided to not put any toilet fixtures in and painted the whole building a bright pink.  Then stood back and laughed at the occupants as we tried to make sense of what was constructed.   I had a bad feeling when the "joke page" went up that this wasnt going to be well recieved but that nobody in management really gave a shit because us sheeple are too stupid to realize how awesome it really is.

06/06/2018 - 3:05pm Old way.  But I really dont…

Old way.  But I really dont like the new layout at all so I'm probably not the guy to ask.  I'm guessing all you hep-cat youngsters are digging on all this fancy whatnot but man, I'm hard pressed to find anything about I can objectively say is "better" than the old one.

Help an old man out.  What's "better" about this one cause I am just not seeing it.

06/06/2018 - 3:01pm I dunno man.  The last…

I dunno man.  The last letter I saw written in comic sans didnt go over really good and will likely be the root cause of Lebron leaving the end of the year so I'm going with the font, not the dick in East Lansing.

Image removed.

06/06/2018 - 1:05pm Well that's interesting.  So…

Well that's interesting.  So basically somebody could post a VERY explosive comment and if they got 100 up votes and 100 down votes it would appear that nobody commented at all?

And what the hell.  Spell check works to tell me the word is screwed up but wont offer a substitute?  That's just mean.

06/06/2018 - 12:01pm Well put.   Generally…

Well put.   Generally speaking I find myself agreeing conceptually with many of the points Bluey/Maizen makes and in most threads start out defending his central thesis (i.e.: Michigan losing out on top-shelf in-state OL = not good).  But at some point I have to jump off the bus when the discussion points turn personal and the resultant shit-storm occurs.

06/06/2018 - 10:29am Let me make sure I…

Let me make sure I understand your extremely will thought out and articulated points:

1. I'm responsible for the kid who i've never met, spoken to or spoken about not choosing Michigan?

2. Me expressing concern over something not going as well as hoped equates to "shitting on the program"?

3. That it's posts on a random fan blog, not the coaching staff or the team's record that determines where a kid will spend his college years?

This is quite possibly the dumbest thing anyone will say to me this week.  And that's saying a lot given I live in Ohio.

06/06/2018 - 10:04am Why is somebody pointing out…

Why is somebody pointing out a problem considered a troll?  What did he say that wasnt true?  What concern that he expressed isnt a legitimate one?

It KILLS me that anybody saying literally anything is a problem is met with "he must be a troll", not "I wonder if what he's saying has merit or not."  Are you happy with our recruiting right now?  Do you look at last year and think "man...this is EXACTLY what I was hoping for with Harbaugh.  A slew of 3 star players and 22nd in the country recruiting baby...WOO....suck that Kentucky!"  I'll just bet it wasnt.

If you guys were on the Titanic you'd be probably have been pissed at the watchman cause he's nothing but an "iceberg troll".
