|07/16/2018 - 10:50pm||If you go and look at…||
If you go and look at different websites - SI.com, USA Today, etc. - they all mostly look like this format. Banner with drop down menus, tiles to click for content, and ads splattered throughout. This site is different because they don't offer one minute thirty second videos spewing the content of the articles. I prefer this. The function of the website is a bit concerning, but the visually appealing part of it is least concerning.
I remember for a time we lost the ability to upvote or downvote in 2.0. It was addressed eventually, but the site didn't die because of it. If I had to guess based on years past, we are about to be bombed with more content than we know what to do with. We are about 6 weeks away from the start of the season and if I have to read content with a white background, cannot edit my posts to the board, and don't get points for my random internet comments, then so be it. I don't come here for those things. I think given time the functionality of the site will improve.

I've had luck finding some podcasts and YouTube videos of discussions - not debates - of different viewpoints. It really puts ideas in light and context and doesn't involve shouting or name calling. I think podcasts and YouTube are pretty good media for the sharing of ideas - you just have to find them. TV and Facebook I find to be not good because the discussion becomes to tiny and limited/unlimited by the constraints of those media. TV is constrained by time and Facebook is not constrained enough for me, but that's just my experience. MGoBlog is also not a place I look for discussions of this nature.

|07/11/2018 - 11:07pm||The political door was…||
The political door was slightly opened when Brian started posting his political views on the front page. I did not care for it, but it is his blog so he can do as he pleases. Brian is basically using his platform to advance his political views, some of which are for the betterment of the community he lives in. This isn't entirely bad. If you don't like it or have no skin in the game then just skip reading it. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has not bothered to read his political posts.
As per the board - political talk typically devolves into a shitshow of name calling and worthless discussion. It has no place here. If I want to read political discourse, I have many options for that.

"I'll admit to just skimming, as I am at work and don't want to waste a bunch of time deep-diving into fringe lawsuits by an aggrieved guy who should have been on the bench with his 5th foul."
I feel exactly the same way. He should have been on the bench. He also fully admits to wearing his ring and not wanting to take it off. That's fine and all, but when people see Louisville as a name and a brand, they see Pitino, they see hookers. Completely not his fault if he didn't participate in the hookers part of it, but you kind of deserve it for choosing of your own free will to play for a scumbag asshole like Pitino.
|07/10/2018 - 10:38pm||I'm going out on a limb here…||
I'm going out on a limb here and saying James Hudson. He was ranked as the 109th best player in 2017. He was the #2 player in Ohio. However, this was as a DT so nobody is going to expect much from him preseason at OT.
At 6'5" with long arms, quick feet, and Ed Warinner on staff - I think we have found our solution at one of the tackle positions. It may take a few games in, but I bet he replaces one of the statues that are currently projected as starters.
|07/08/2018 - 10:05pm||ThadMattasagoblin -
Do you realize that in the last two years we are 151-150 in points scored versus Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan State? I don't think we are that far off from competing for a Big 10 title. The talent and the coaching are there. This year will be a landmark year. Mark me down for 11 wins.
|07/07/2018 - 10:27pm||If you look closer at his…||
If you look closer at his profile, he’s a top 500 prospect to 24/7. He’s only about 0.02 points away from being a four star. As per size, he’s 6’ 3” tall, 215 lbs, and is heading into his junior season. There is a high likelihood he grows in size and develops further given his family tree. As we’ve seen with some recruits, giving them attention early makes a big difference. We’ve seen some recruits claim that Michigan waited too long to show interest so they won’t even consider them.
TLDR: he’s an interesting prospect at this point. I’m not depressed at all by this offer.
|06/24/2018 - 6:46pm||I think the offense will be…||
I think the offense will be top 20 this year. It will be a functional pass game spearheaded by a two headed attack in the run game. I’m going to say 11-1 with Higdon first to 1k rushing yards. Evans punches 1k rushing yards three games later. The Big 10 is about to get a wake up call from Michigan.
When the ‘ol season is done, it’s gonna be Michigan again. Michigan.

|06/22/2018 - 10:45am||I think a better way to look…||
I think a better way to look at this is average player rating. 2018 for instance we had a 3 star player that was 0.8391 in his player rating. We also had a 3 star player who was 0.8891. One of these players wasn't ranked in the top 1000 and one was in the top 400. All three stars are not alike. The high three star player was also only a few spots away from a fourth star.
So if you look over the last five years in average player rating, Clemson has an average of 0.9070 while Michigan has an average of 0.8961. Clemson shut out Ohio State with these players. I think looking at stars only doesn't give you the complete picture of talent. The range of only looking at stars is too great to make a concise analysis of talent.
|06/21/2018 - 10:18am||If you look back over the…||
If you look back over the last five years of recruiting and take the average player ranking from 24/7, Michigan is recruiting very closely with Clemson. The average for Michigan is 0.8960 and the average for Clemson is 0.9076. I seem to remember Clemson held Ohio State scoreless a couple years ago in the playoffs.
I think by looking at the average player rating gives a better picture that an arbitrary cutoff of stars. We hear people say low four star, average three star, etc. With that said, I'd like to see us at an average of 0.9200 or so. That is the level Alabama and Ohio State are at.

Beating a dead horse??
I would strongly disagree with this. This isn't a dead horse because this just happened. Just think about the message his statement sends from his recently released email.
The first victim to come forward is probably getting kickbacks from other attorneys by manipulating other victims.
Maybe you didn't read that part? Maybe you did. If you didn't read anything about this then you are being willfully ignorant. If you did read about it then I find your comment disgusting. Engler's statement is exactly what causes the culture of abuse that occurred there to over 300 women.

|06/15/2018 - 1:15pm||If he truly is digging in…||
If he truly is digging in while simultaneously praising himself, then I really am astonished. There were "reasons" Engler was chosen, most of which had to do with keeping the status quo in tact. There was an article in the Lansing State Journal on June 14th. In the article they talked extensively about how he came to be selected as interim president.
"I am appalled that the Board would consider John Engler as a temporary leader for our university. I hope that you will choose someone more suited to lead us compassionately through these challenging times," an email to trustees from an alumnus whose name MSU redacted before releasing the records.
Peter Secchia, a prominent MSU donor and former ambassador to Italy, mentioned his recommendation for interim president in an email to Head Football Coach Mark Dantonio, which Secchia also copied to Beekman.
"What about John Engler as Interim President," Secchia wrote. "He's certainly strong enough."
I guess I shouldn't be shocked that the reason he was hired was pretty much because he's "strong enough." They weren't looking for a path to fixing their problems, they were looking for an asshole large enough to keep them in place.

You’re just a bundle of joy. I think a lot of the issues are that some folks aren’t as tech savvy as they think they are. I’ve read quite a few folks don’t even know how to clear their cache. Some folks are still seeing the geocities fake page as a result. But go on, just blame the people who did all the work on the improvements for your own incompetence. Seems par for the course in this day and age.

|03/30/2018 - 2:58pm||Agree EGD||
Some of his comments about college athletics are common talking points on this blog. I find from reading the article, he’d agree with much of what people argue here. I think the spirit of his article is to remind people that with a student athlete, the student should come first. We know that isn’t always the case. Since his article was about the joy and exuberance that Loyola basketball has brought to the students, he didn’t go into a ton of detail about who “big time college programs” are. That wasn’t the point of his article, just a point of student athlete advocacy he felt he could make. Again, we make the same exact points here.

When Glen died, and they split the primary group up into completely different settlements, that is when it started becoming really muddy to wade through. I’ve watched it all and this season has really started to make me think - “Should I just stop recording each episode?”
At points I’ve wondered why they don’t just cut their losses and drive off to a location away from the Savior domain. This would leave Negan in place for a possible later date and would put the core group back in place. I think the Negan/Savior thing has run its course and it’s time to just move on. Either kill him or get away from him. Just too many subplots going on right now to keep it interesting.
|03/05/2018 - 2:17pm||I think the key point to this||
I think the key point to this team, and ties in with your post, is that Michigan has so much depth. Even in the terrible Iowa game officiated so poorly, Michigan found a way to win with their three best players on the bench for half the game. In years past, this would have almost certainly spelled death. Each piece of Michigan’s roster brings a unique skill set to the court, and Beilein has figured out how and when to use them. They are an incredibly fun team to watch.

I’d guess a five seed based on today. If we wound up a four seed it doesn’t really change our bracket that much. As a five we’d play the four in the round of 32. As a four we’d play the five in the round of 32. I doubt we get to a three seed which is the only thing that would shift our bracket enough to be interesting. I really doubt we end up a six seed which would have the same effect as being a three seed. At this point, I’m just enjoying watching them play.
