|10/01/2016 - 1:10pm||Hope to see you again on Saturday||
If you had a good time, maybe you can leave a review at:
|09/24/2016 - 12:00am||email me at mavloet at gmail||
OT but want to share:
The Red Wing pottery Company that made the original LBJ agreed to produce the jugs for the Kickstarter campaign. Just after the campaign ended, they announced they were closing. My email and phone calls went unanswered. Months later came the announcement that a buyer for the company was found but that they would close down production of large pottery pieces. I spoke with the new owner and explained the KS situation and he said he'd like to help but was embroiled in a copyright infringement lawsuit that only wrapped up this spring. Now the company is up for sale again and it looks like jug production will not resume. It kills me that I'm unlikely to see the jugs made and I'm embarrased that I didn't keep you and a few others better informed but I always thought I was nearing a resolution. I'd be happy, at this point, to refund your contribution. Email me for more info.
|09/23/2016 - 10:38pm||All season long||
The Charity Beer Garden and Slows food truck are there for the entire home season.
The series started slowly and quietly -- not much publicity -- but we're hoping to see MLive show up with a photographer this weekend. Before the Wisconsin game next week there may actually be a segment on WXYZ-Detroit.
Stop by any home game Saturday this (and probably next) season.
|09/23/2016 - 10:04pm||Closest [legal] beer [sales] to the Big House...||
...but I'm up for some photos. Let's see 'em!
Just please don't try to leave the Beer Garden holding a beer, okay? It would suck to lose the special event license that allows the Cancer Support Community to make this possible.
|09/23/2016 - 9:33pm||'zat like bathtub gin?||
Let's try that again...
CLOSEST beer, not closet beer. My bad
|09/21/2016 - 9:28pm||See you Saturday!||
See you Saturday!
|09/21/2016 - 5:16pm||Thanks for the tip||
Thanks, but it looks like they may be out of business (as you said). Much appreciated though!
|09/21/2016 - 4:40pm||See you there||
Make sure you say hi (ask for Martin). Always good to meet the MGoCrowd!
|09/21/2016 - 4:38pm||Or you could||
Or you could just buy another.
|09/21/2016 - 12:29pm||Two lines||
'Chunks and 'Stamos: Yes, two lines.
Slows has the food truck set up for food and bottled water. The charity has the bar set up separately to dispense beer. The beer garden is the only State-approved special event license granted in A2 on game day and it comes with some hoops to jump through but it's a great opportunity for fans and the non-profit org. The $6 drink ticket covers all the different beer options so it's simple and fast (and, yes, goes to a good cause). It also helps cover the cost of bathrooms, trash pickup, cable, etc.
Cash is good but credit cards are accepted too.
I hope you stop in and enjoy yourselves!
|09/21/2016 - 12:12pm||Glad to hear the feedback||
Slows and the charity wanted to take small steps at the beginning to make sure the experience was a good one for both fan and vendor. There was little publicity until everyone got into a rythm and even the menu was controlled to meet demand without overpreparing.
As the crowds grow, so will the food options I imagine. Tell the staff (one or both of the Perrone brothers are there each game day) that you'd like to see a few more menu items. Bring your friends so they see that there are customers to justify the extra output.
As for where to sit and watch the game, better signage is required to let people know that the warehouse (open to the back of the property) can seat 50-75 people easily.
Glad you enjoyed the beer. There were a few new brews available last Saturday. Stop in and try them out this week!
|09/21/2016 - 9:49am||Congrats to your wife||
Glad to hear she's doing well. I'm also a member of the survivors' spouse/partner club. It's one of the reasons this particular charity is the beneficiary of these efforts.
I was also at the '07 Oregon game (on-field photographer). Strange thing is, I have no memory of the first two weeks of that season. My doctor says I may be repressing traumatic memories of the first two home games.
|09/21/2016 - 9:40am||Marching Band and signage||
Yeah, the crowd thins out a bit after the Michigan Marching Band leads everyone into the stadium. Approaching kickoff, ticket holders are on their way in and everyone else (eating, drinking, or without tickets) is in the warehouse beer garden watching the pre-game.
We've also learned over the past three weeks that better (higher) signage is required. Everything hung at or below eye over is blocked by the throngs of people on the street.
DOES ANYONE HERE HAVE CONNECTIONS INSIDE A BANNER/SIGN-MAKING COMPANY? Maybe someone willing to offer a charitable discount on a large (we're talking 10x20 foot) outdoor banner to hang on the building on football Saturdays?
|09/21/2016 - 1:23am||What a year that was!.||
...and I especially like your lead-off photo (it's one of mine)! I was a photographer for the team that year (and '96 and '98) and had the pleasure of photographing Red, in a rare smiling moment, while hugging Billy Muckalt.
|09/20/2016 - 11:39pm||Yup, Slows food truck||
Yup, Slows is trucking it into A2. I tried to convince them to open an Ann Arbor location. Still working on that...
|09/20/2016 - 11:39pm||I'd share a photo of the setup but...||
I'd share a photo of the game day setup so you know what to look for but I can't figure out how to attach a photo.
|09/20/2016 - 11:28pm||Then, by all means,||
Then, by all means, concentrate your efforts on the beer!
|09/20/2016 - 11:01pm||Full disclosure||
Full disclosure: I am a sponsor of the charity event so my interest is not just in who knows about the place and who has been there. I'd like to spread the word to raise awareness and, yes, more money for the charity. That only happens if more people drink their beer, something I know this crowd can get behind.
Hope to see you there on Saturday.
|09/19/2016 - 2:28pm||It IS awesome!||
It's the former Purchase Radio Supply building at 327 E. Hoover. Google Maps and streetview here.
There's a fence around the property (required for beer service) but the Slows truck is hard to miss. It's west of the RR tracks, kitty-corner from Revelli Hall. Last year, Campus Den was selling shirts, etc. on the site.
The warehouse is at the back of the property, grab some food and drink and sit down inside to watch the early/late/pre-game!
Cash and credit cards acepted. To buy beer, you have to show ID and buy a drink ticket ($6/pint).
|09/19/2016 - 12:43am||Beer & Slows BarBQ for Charity (Closest beer to the Big House!)||
Anybody discovered this one yet?
Slows Bar BQ is parking their food truck at the railroad tracks at E Hoover Ave, adjacent to Elbel Field. There's a warehouse in the back serving as the home for a charity beer garden with ten taps serving up craft brews, covered seating for 60+, and two large big screens with games on all day.
It's just one block from the Big House.
Open to the public.
Family friendly--kids welcome, even a corn hole game out back.
The Michigan Marching Band lead fans into the stadium (pre-game) and out again (post-game).
Oh, yeah...and bathrooms!
Beer and BBQ for charity. What's not to like?
|03/29/2016 - 10:04am||I just bought some tickets...||
I just bought some tickets and didn't see a ticket limit. Seats range from $55 (endzone) to $210 (mid-field lowers) to $235 (club).
|11/26/2014 - 1:38pm||Yeah, but...||
Yeah, but isn't not doing anything an decision in itself? We need to determine a course of action and start taking real steps. Simply watching a wounded animal doesn't absolve you of responsibility for it's suffering.
Or, to put it in cinematic terms, "Get busy living or get busy dying."
Which one is the AD really doing?
|06/15/2014 - 12:51am||Congrats!!||
Hey, that's awesome!
Good news for others of us...I got a great new job AND can spend more time with my family. Friday the 13th is a great day in my family, too. My grandfather, father, and I were all born on the 13th. It was a good day!
|06/05/2014 - 9:32am||Hmmm. I spend most of my time||
Hmmm. I spend most of my time consumed by job and family with little time to read much farther than MGoBlog. I get the feeling that a good review from BR is tantamount to getting a gold medal...from your Mom. Safe to assume it's not worth much?
Still, I'd rather see a game here than most anywhere else.
|06/05/2014 - 9:26am||Amen.||
|06/05/2014 - 9:03am||I completely agree!||
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't knocking our status because the Big Ten did us a disservice in scheduling the new conference alignment. Just the opposite. I agree that we're a kick-ass place to be for any college football experience (welcome, Slippery Rock!).
Just check out the commitment in my home remodeling projects...
|06/05/2014 - 8:56am||Ann Arbor
Other B1G schools at #14 (Wisconsin) and #25 (Iowa).
|12/04/2013 - 4:50pm||That would be the Hoover||
That would be the Hoover Steel Ball Company, founded in Ann Arbor in 1913.
True, it's a very useful location and it's especially nice that it has all the industrial amenities that suit Plant Ops, then and now. Big question is whether or not the undoubtedly crucial operations could be based a little farther from the center of campus and the space more efficiently utilized--by Athletics or some other campus unit.
It IS ironic that AEC would have to approve the move.
|12/04/2013 - 3:52pm||Speaking of bus rides...||
Speaking of bus rides, might the University bus student fans to and from cetral campus to an (extended) South Campus for athletic events (or student-athletes to/from practice)?
Crisler and The Big House are an easy walk. Soccer, less so. Lacrosse and a new track facility, if they sit 1.7 miles south of the Diag (thank you Google Earth), could be a tough draw without transportation.
|12/04/2013 - 3:34pm||I could put a nice plaque on||
I could put a nice plaque on each leather seat with donor names.
...or a collection of miniature bronze busts of "those who stay..." at MGoPatio. You could be the first!
|12/04/2013 - 3:26pm||I would LOOOOOVE to get a hot tub.||
So...outdoor hot tub, snow on the ground, maybe for the NHL Winter Classic?
Do I hear Kickstarter calling?
|10/09/2013 - 11:39am||Check out Big Jon and the||
Check out Big Jon and the team captains with the Little Brown Jug courtesy of the Michigan Photo Store.
Watching Jon get ready to hand off the jug one last time was something special.
|09/18/2013 - 3:13pm||Still strong on MGoBlog support||
With 49 hours to go, the project is at 98% and only needs $66 to reach the goal. It would be nice to hit the mark and keep going, but right now I want to thank the MGoBlog community for your support. A hefty 42.25% of the pledges came from you guys. That's incredible.
I really hope to see everyone back at MGoPatio in the near future. I'm talking with Brian and Seth about setting a new date. Stay tuned.
|09/17/2013 - 4:33pm||It says it quickly...
It says it quickly...
A $4 pledge gets your name on the thank-you card for Jon Falk. On the KS page, you'll see the silhouette of The Jug made up of lines of text. The text is the names of all the backers (plus some of Jon's colleagues, etc.). You'll also have access to a PDF file of the thank-you graphic so you can see where your name appeared.
This backer level is the simple "thank-you" level common in Kickstarter campaigns. The $4 goes towards the costs of Jon's tailgate reception. AND...if I can get the MGoBlog community to step up and knock this one out, I'll host another tailgate at my place for said community. You can call the four bucks a contribution to the MGoBeer fund.
|09/17/2013 - 4:03pm||MGoBlog readers have posted||
MGoBlog readers have posted 19 pledges for a cool grand in backing. That's 42% of the total project backing. The project is now at 83% overall. You guys rock! I hope someone does step up and get the replica. It'd be great to get a phot of you, your Little Brown Jug, and Jil and Jon at the reception.
Spread the word and maybe more people will get in on the action, even at $4. That's the cost of a Big Mac. It's a bargain when you consider what Jon has done for the team.
|09/14/2013 - 10:30pm||"it's a small arena and u||
"it's a small arena and u have the same number of students."
It actually sounds like your solution is to cut student seating at the Big House to make it easier to fill the student sections... No?
|09/13/2013 - 1:33pm||Of course I want to see it||
Of course I want to see it funded too, but I'll make sure the Jug can happen one way or the other. Just keep in touch.
|09/11/2013 - 10:44am||You guys are awesome!||
Thanks to those who made the jump to Kickstarter page and joined the effort. A surge yesterday got us to 30% funding with 48% coming straight from the MGoBlog page.
If you know a die-hard Michigan fan (and who of us doesn't) maybe you'll share the link and encourage someone to just put their name on the card.
|09/10/2013 - 5:47pm||Too cool!||
|09/10/2013 - 5:44pm||Sweet! You've got a shot at||
Sweet! You've got a shot at it now. Just make sure that shelf is big enough. The full-size replica is a big 'in and weighs about 25 pounds.
|09/10/2013 - 4:31pm||The one-gallon and two-gallon||
The one-gallon and two-gallon commemorative jugs are hand-made collectibles, but are also fully functional and won't have any 110 year old surprises inside them. Drink what you'd like from them (two gallons is a LOT of beer)!
|09/10/2013 - 4:27pm||I love the enthusiasm, but||
I love the enthusiasm, but should point out that the Red Wing jugs being produced for the project are unpainted. They feature the original glaze and RW logo, just as the LBJ did when it was purchased in 1903. Should you desire, you can paint it to matc on your own.
The full-on replica will take longer for Jil to paint. Delivery is planned following the football season. That said, we sould have a very nice replica of The Jug at Jon's event. Get on the guest list and have your photo taken with the next-best-thing.
|09/10/2013 - 4:06pm||I almost forgot...||
I could edit the original post, but on the off chance you decided not to read that far...
I'm collecting a few incentives from generous football alumni and others in the Michigan Football community that I will offer outsde of Kickstarter to anyone that can lend a helpful hand in giving this project a push. I'm looking at signed balls, jerseys, boks, etc. for help in getting the word out or srumming up support. If you're interested, please contact me through the MGoPatio Facebook page.
Details to come as soon as they're solid. Thanks again.
|09/06/2013 - 11:49pm||Thanks to everyone for making it out tonight!||
It was a great night. Thanks to everyone that made it out here tonight, particularly the returning players. I hope everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks to the whole MGoBlog team for making things easy. I hope to more events here in the future.
Let's make the predictions come true and give ND a real reason to run away from this series.
LET"S GO BLUE!

|03/30/2013 - 2:15am||It's good for us that he||
It's good for us that he didn't get ejected. Johnson was the one who missed the front end of the one-and-one, failed to get across the time line, and passed up the layup to kick it out to the reserve guard that missed the game-winner.
Serves him right.
