06/16/2018 - 9:35pm IMO, if you are good enough…

IMO, if you are good enough to win in the CFP, you don't need to be concerned about OOC games like ND.

If the goal is to just get to the CFP, then sure, schedule some easier teams. But the proof will come out eventually.

You're either good enough to win it all at which point your OOC difficulty doesn't matter, or you're not and the extra 1-2 wins is just superficial.

06/16/2018 - 10:57am Not sure this is doable in… Not sure this is doable in the extension...but is there a way to 1) pin the board/diaries (current size) to the far right side of the page regardless of window width and 2) default to like 15 board posts visiable and 3) have the main content/messaging text-wrap or scale dynamically with the remaining space on the left for whatever window size you choose? I also miss the avatars because I recognize those more than the user names. But I would trade a million avatars for getting rid of the visual atrocity that is 3.0

Agree wholeheartedly. I engaged with the site (both app and web) much more when the iOS HD app existed. I hate the current app so much I deleted it off my phone. And now visit the site much, much less frequently than I used to.
I would actually buy the HD app for like $20...that’s how bad current state is.

02/13/2018 - 6:22pm Yes. I'll pick up once

Yes. I'll pick up once findings can be published. At the very least, ESPN likely won't let it go because of MSU's resistance to share information and Engler throwing them under the bus in his statement which was arrogant in spite of everything that has happened.

ESPN already has it on their top national headlines and also categorized under NCAAM and NCAAF and their article hardly references sports. So, ESPN likely remains vindictive for the long haul.

I mean, I get it that it's a bad look...but does anyone really expect a company/person/institution to not prepare a defense in the face of a billion dollars worth of lawsuits?

This is totally expected.

02/08/2018 - 3:44pm Lol what a dumb article. Net

Lol what a dumb article. Net takeway is that program branding is highly correlated with winning recruits!

"Stadium size, uniforms, program prestige, coach prestige, coach persona, location, media exposure, fan sentiment, playing style, and academics are only a handful of the endless factors that play a role in an athlete’s decision.  The net sum of all these influences becomes the program’s brand."

So you're telling me if you do everything well you're more likely to get better recruits? No shit.

I'll have to update the regression and check the p-values and r-sqaured. Look for part 2 of my blog post to come out shortl. Probably as a link with no context on a sports blog.

I think I'm onto something here. I ran the analysis and you can get a better girlfriend if you're better looking, had more money, a nicer car, bigger house, better personality, more empathy, and cherished mother-daughter relationships.

I'm going to make sure the data checks out because this was unexpected, but I will report back once I do.

That said, I'm happy for him and he has been a great representative of Michigan.

Maybe that's the point. The analysts can look into opposing defenses (especially if they have experience on those teams in the past) and the breadth of offensive philosophies can inform how best to attack a particular opponent in a given week.

Just a guess on my part.

12/13/2017 - 9:07pm If you split the football

If you split the football revenue 50/50 with the players, every athletic department - including Michigan - would be under water. In fact, most ADs are already in the red without giving half of the largest revenue earner away. Michigan only had a $2.4M surplus on a $170M revenue.

The only way to stay in the black will be:

1. to take institutional money from academics -- hard sell because that means sacrificing the core nature of a university (learning) and taking from the vast majority of the students

2. get more money from boosters -- schools are presumably already maximizing donations, difficult to assume even more would come, but possible.

3. cut costs -- either not reinvest in shiny new training facilities, stadium expansions, etc. OR shut down non-profitable sports. Men/womens lacrosse, mens golf, womens field hockey...all of the sports that make a university's student body diverse.

Wouldn't he still be allowed in but just as an academic freshman in your scenario? Maybe the school offers only two more years of paid tuition? I feel like there are a lot of ways to still get him in the school if it wasn't the grades holding him up.

08/08/2017 - 4:44pm MBA's are not tough to get.

MBA's are not tough to get. Getting into top tier MBA programs is tough to get.

It's all about signalling your intellectual ability not necessarily what you learn in an MBA program. By design, a top tier MBA program still needs to hit mid-level basics of accounting, econ, operations, strategy, stats/modeling, and some electives. Intentially broader curriculum than a 400-level theory based course deep in your concentration at UM. Speaking from experience.

But, the standards to get into a top program are very difficult. Really high GPA in those solid undergrad programs, 720+ GMAT scores, etc.

The hardest part is getting in.

06/27/2017 - 2:55pm Yeah same. Made a comment

Yeah same. Made a comment below but how in the world do you suggest UT and not Vanderbilt? Vandy would pull more hockey fans than football and actually have a local recruiting base.

06/27/2017 - 2:51pm Fwiw, I believe Vandy is way

Fwiw, I believe Vandy is way more likely than UT to field a hockey team. Nashville prep schools  actually have strong hockey programs and would naturally feed kids to Vandy. Vandy also pulls way more of the student body from northern states than a school like UT. It's also more relevant to the Preds recent success. Knoxville is so far from Nashville that it would be like saying Western Michigan should field a ___________ because Chicago has a _________. It's, like, 3 hours away.

Vanderbilt just seems like a much more natural fit with B1G schools than a UT. I'm surprised to see some schools on there and Vanderbilt not mentioned. Would be curious as to why. They have space, rink access, feeder schools, and money.

06/23/2017 - 2:39pm Oh don't get me wrong -

Oh don't get me wrong - totally agree there's a Blackwell effect. The degree to which there is is debateable. There a big difference between HS players/coaches avoiding MSU and Blackwell himself actively poisoning and anti-recruiting for revenge.

06/23/2017 - 2:30pm Yeah. I mean, kids also

Yeah. I mean, kids also transfer right away after committing and that player would in theory have more than a light attraction after signing a LOI after all. So who knows. You said Blackwell was critical in his recruitment so I put him on par with position coach, etc.

I just struggle with the "speculating on the speculation" that Blackwell is poisoning MSU with recruits.  Mustapha could've just as easily said "eh, Wisconsin is on an upward trajectory and better academically. I'll go there."

Or maybe Blackwell was really selling the MSU kool aid and now that there's isn't a full court press, clearer minds prevail.

I just think it's silly to assert there's some backstabbing revenge plot. Mustapha could've just changed his mind. Or could've played his cards close and been really dwelling on this for months without telling anyone.

It's not as juicy of a plot but IMO just as - or more - likely.

06/23/2017 - 2:13pm Poisoning MSU? Leading

Poisoning MSU? Leading recruits away? I don't know... Person A recruits player. Person A not at that school anymore. Player goes to different school.

It happens all the time.
