There's a "war" going on, but it's simple to help out

We have a massively multi-player "war"-like game going on, and a lot of us are defending Michigan's honor against other university teams.  In true Michigan fashion, one of us, the OP, came up with a great way to coordinate and marshall our troops in the game, a dedicated server.  All other teams were left behind, but have since resorted to dirty tricks to try to infiltrate us, and also to pin the blame for their deviousness on us.  So we are trying now to beat back both the psychological warfare and the actual "warfare," the latter of which consists of a coordinated, but single, press of a button each day.  So it's simple to do your part to help our cause!

Use the old site

I had the same problem.  You should use: https://old.reddit.com/r/CFB/

Then go to the right and "select flair."  Make Michigan your primary flair.

Joining Up

Came out of lurking just to play this. Also joined Reddit...no flairs showing up in the pop-up box on r/cfb to select, however.  What am I missing?

My sympathies

Both Pakistan cricket and Michigan State sports have not been doing so well lately.  Good WC game though, hope you watched it!

To clarify

since I don't think that Pakistan's being given enough credit --- yes, Pakistan winning would have been a slight upset, and a shocking one to Indians because of the home advantage, but Pakistan was not that much of an underdog.  They are, and have historically been, a very good team.  Certainly the excitement and import of an India-Pakistan meeting is all that FrankMurphy said and more, but an upset was certainly possible.

Not on the scale of cricket

Not on the scale of cricket --- that's why there is an Indian Premier League that all other internationals play in.  But hockey (not the ice kind) and tennis are also quite popular, and I know schools play basketball, volleyball and baseball too.  Believe it or not, there are larger television audiences for chess matches and trivia/quiz contests than these other minor sports.  At least, this was true when I grew up near India in the early 90s --- I guess thanks to Anand for the former, and Cadbury's Bournevita Quiz contest for schools for the latter.

Yeah, I forgot about racing

Yeah, I forgot about racing in my reply below.

Funding

Or lack thereof, to be accurate.  Up until a few years ago, and especially before the run up to the Commonwealth games, very little money was directed into furthering sports.  The New York Times had a number of great articles on the topic about a year ago.  There are more pressing matters in India, frankly, and what little money went to sports ended up funneled into people's pockets.  But things have changed: there is a lot more awareness, money, training from international coaches and organizations, and new facilities, which may make India more competitive in sports other than cricket.

Wooo! It's over.

Sri Lanka here we come!

Can we get a game thread for that too?

Have to agree

But it's not over yet!  They can stil prove us wrong.

Sitting in the crowd?

Kind of dangerous no?  Given the Nehru/Gandhi family history?  At an India-Pakistan game and a potential India-Sri Lanka match up coming up?

The metal detectors in that country are essentially just for show.

Was an Azhar fan growing

Was an Azhar fan growing up...somehow never felt the same with Dhoni, but I'm coming round.  Slowly, I admit.

Nehra!

I take it all back.  Great over!  And a wicket!

Afridi's gone!

Collapse imminent!

I think he was being a

I think he was being a gentleman.  If he celebrated though, even if it was wrong, I think the TV umpire would have agreed and given it...can't tell either way.

Actually, most all of India

Actually, most all of India is shut down right now, watching the match.  I was there during the earlier group matches and everything is at a standstill when India plays.

And you can bet anything you like that even in the poorest of the poor areas, there is a crowd gathered around a single, small, flickering tv screen.  India is really a single sport nation.

Patel strikes!

Wooo!

Shared rooting interests

Seem to be plenty of India fans (yes!) but I wonder if there are any Pakistan supporters here? Awfully quiet from the other side.

One Day Internationals too!

ODIs have enough contained excitement for our short attention spans too, but yes 20/20s are as exciting, short, and very very similar to the punch delivered in hockey and football games.

Avoid a South Africa repeat

Well, as long as Nehra doesn't give away the game again, things are looking good.  So far.

*fingers crossed*

And as I type this, Harbhajan comes through!

Indian Catholic here, but I

Indian Catholic here, but I cheer for Michigan.  My degrees are from Michigan, not Notre Dame.  In any case, I don't think that the spheres of religion and sports should intersect.

07 Camry Owner

I financed and took possession of a four-cylinder 07 Camry exactly three years ago today.  For me, it came down to choosing between the Malibu and the Camry.  The pick-up for this version of the Camry is definitely slower than other cars I have driven.  However, I was offered the car, with moonroof, for about $500 above invoice price at Rinke Toyota in Detroit, because they were making space for the 08 models.  You might want to see if you can get a deal like that now.  At the time, resale value for a Toyota was much higher than for Ford and GM, a factor which helped the decision too.  For the record, my Camry was built in Kentucky.

I'm sure that

Brian could cook up quite a storm too.  But yes, Tripp did provide some food for thought.

I think he's afraid

of adding a little spice to his life.
