01/07/2018 - 9:00pm Well, it's one thing to want

Well, it's one thing to want to play football and it's another thing to focus on academics.  I think it's weird that he didn't end up with many offers.  That's all.  My post was not intended to invoke an argument.  Time to drink.

01/04/2018 - 3:28pm Holy shit you guys are

Holy shit you guys are cancer.  I complimented the dude.  I'm saying, it's weird that top programs reached out to him and he ignored them because he just didn't want to run a 40 for them.  I wonder how hard he will work at a top academic institution like Michigan if he is self indulgent.  We aren't Ole Miss and academics are important here, as Harbaugh showed by not playing Kareem Walker at all his first year due to academics.  It doesn't matter how good he is if he never goes to class.

People like you two make this board a shitty place to discuss our team.

01/04/2018 - 3:24pm So nobody cared that Rashan

So nobody cared that Rashan Gary had a 3.8 in hs? Academics do matter, which is why we didn't get the safety and receiver from Ole Miss.

You are the only troll here.  Go back to your pathetic life

01/04/2018 - 1:45pm Are we sure he's not just self indulgent?

Clearly sounds like he can play.  Hopefully he will be OK academically.  Not sure if this was covered in the hello post

Jim Harbaugh's offense has never been good here at Michigan.  Never.  It never will be either.  I'm starting to think that the garbage QB play is not because our players suck. It's that our scheme sucks.  Fire Drevno.  Make Jim Harbaugh change his offense or he can leave for the NFL. Neg away, I don't give a fuck.   I'm tired of naive people thinking this is all OK.

10/02/2017 - 1:38pm True, would be Peters

I live right next to the stadium and play with my dog at the same park that a current team member plays with his dog.  I talk to him often.

I asked about the qb situation not too long ago (before Purdue).  He said that in practice, Speight was hands down our best qb, with O'Korn, Peters, and McCaffrey following in that order.  He disputed reports that Peters had fallen below McCaffrey.  I also asked why Peters wasn't playing since he looked to be our most talented qb.  He said that Peters wasn't as mentally ready as Speight or O'Korn.

Take it for whatever it's worth; with this information combined with the fact that McCaffrey needs to gain serious weight before he will see reliable playing time, I would be willing to bet that Peters would get the nod.

I didn't like sling because I thought it was glitchy. I have YouTube TV and it's great. The UI is wayyyyy better than sling and I get all the ESPN channels, regular broadcast, fox sports, BTN, etc. The only thing i noticed I don't have is NFL Network.

If Clemson can win it all then we should be in a good position

08/25/2017 - 10:54am Ohio State is in the same

Ohio State is in the same boat; they're in the chilly midwest and have a historically strong program.  Also, one could argue that the state of Ohio is a dump and not a desitnation for many reasons.  I would be willing to bet that an M program with B1G rings would be similar to OSU's recruiting over the last few years.  JH might need to win a national championship before he recruits as well as Meyer did this year, though.

I take it at night maybe an hour or two before I go to sleep.  I find that I have an overall sense of improved well being, even the next day when it has worn off.  It also makes it easy to fall asleep, which really helps with insomnia.

Weed affects everyone differently.  Furthermore, some strains are better for certain ailments than others.  If you live in Michigan, you won't be able to get a mmj recommendation for depression.  That will make it more difficult to find a strain that your lady friend likes.

There's little risk to trying it out.  I've been using it nearly every night for over a year and I found that it's easier to stop using than the coffee I drink every morning.  The real risk is getting caught for possession.

01/04/2017 - 5:46pm I got a BS in mechanical

I got a BS in mechanical engeering and am currently pursuring a PhD in electrical engineering at UM.  My undergrad was at U. Arizona, where the astronomy/astrophysics programs are highly regarded.  If he is interested in these programs, then he should really check out Arizona.  Tuition is reasonable for out of state students and the weather is amazing.

That being said, astrophysics is entirely math.  If he likes math, then he should do fine.  I highly recommend taking calc I in highshool, and perhaps even taking it again freshman year.  I did this and it was extremely beneficial.  Even if he is great at math, he should expect to have to work hard regardless.  I believe astronomy is not as heavy in math but I would double check that.

You should make it very clear to him that astrophysicists/astronomers work almost exclusively in academia.  If he gets an undergrad degree in either, it will be worth zilch until he goes to grad school for a PhD, and even then, academia is outrageously competitive and he will not be guaranteed a job.

06/23/2016 - 11:30am That's an interesting idea.

That's an interesting idea. Mars is in the sun's habitable zone, and its size is somewhat similar to earth's. There is proven to be water there. I'm honestly waiting for the day that we stumble across fossils on Mars that prove that it was Earth 1.0

Venus has a runaway greenhouse effect going on, is really close to the sun, and is much smaller than earth. I don't suspect there was ever life there. But who knows

06/22/2016 - 11:44pm The Fermi Paradox essentially

The Fermi Paradox essentially says that the possibility of life is so high that it's safe to assume that it either does exist now or did exist at some time (the universe is OLD, man). I'm using the FP to argue that it very likely does exist, and it's not fishy that we haven't discovered other life yet. I don't claim a specific reason why we haven't found them yet, because there are many. With that in mind, the FP does not contradict superpredator or the Zoo hypothesis, though I personally don't think they're likely to be true. I'm unfamiliar with Young Sol, and google did not return any results.

Certainly, the idea that we are alone is NOT absurd. It's just very, very unlikely

06/22/2016 - 11:15pm The fact that life exists

The fact that life exists here on earth is proof that it is possible for life to exist elsewhere.

There has to be life in other parts of our galaxy, let alone the universe. No, it isn't shocking that we haven't made contact with any of them, because we are only now even able to image the specific exoplanets that could have life, let alone communicate with sentient beings who could possibly inhabit them. We only began making radio waves within the last 200 years. By now they are only ~15% of the way to the closest known exoplanet that could possibly harbor life. Even if it did reach the planet by now (which it hasn't) and there is intelligent life there, what if they haven't discovered telecommunications?

There are a thousand ways to explain why we don't know of any other life by now. If you aren't familiar with the Fermi Paradox, I've attached a link that explains it quite well. Enrico Fermi was a famous scientist who came up with the Fermi Level, which is an extremely important measure in semiconductor physics and other physics that involve charged particles. He deduced that for every grain of sand on earth, there are about 100 earth like planets in the observable universe. The article lists plausible reasons as to why we haven't found any yet. Read if you're interested.
