The spirit of the penalty is to prevent exactly that type of dangerous hit. He may have touched with the shoulder first but his intent, complete with launch, was to destroy the receiver. Nobody would have questioned the refs judgment had the call stood. Are you trying to protect kids or just teach them how to hit dangerously with more nuance?

Why bother with the rule if you aren't going to use it as a tool to take the emphasis off head hunting and improve safety?

09/30/2018 - 10:07am Do you hear yourself? Good…

Do you hear yourself? Good coaches losing on the road intentionally waste a play running for 1 or fewer yards (leaving themselves in 2nd & 9 or 3rd & 6) between 6 and 8 times a game to set up a 20 yard run sometime in the future?

Where does this belief stem from that you have to run crappy plays to set up good ones? I didn't realize this was the secret sauce Alabama and OSU were using all these years. This kind of logic says Jim took the loss at ND to preserve his "good" plays. He was saving the old "7 plays, 7 yards, then sting em for 20" to bail the team out on the road at NW.

Pain is just mental? Some people really do think they're special. Your anecdote about a quad injury is just that. Treating pain as some mental obstacle is a poor prescription for health.

08/12/2018 - 7:56am If the 2016 schedule was…

If the 2016 schedule was more difficult in retrospect, that means the 2018 schedule is subject to change as well. It is highly doubtful that when the year is done there will still be five top 12 teams on our schedule.

Personally, I think ND takes a big step back, and MSU is capped at ten wins (they should have been an eight or nine win team last year). I think Michigan, OSU, and Wisconsin inflict a lot of losses on the other teams

Fine. He's a safety that plays every down at the line of scrimmage and makes a really good linebacker. This whole line of reasoning is academic at best and disingenuous at worst.

Wow. You took a break from listening to Hawthorne Heights in your basement to post THIS take?

While it has never been more difficult to win this conference I can still say with confidence that the worst years in UofM football history are behind us. Live in the past and fear defeat or embrace the challenge and believe in the team.

25% of military forces in country in vietnam we're draftees. Boomers sure make it sound like everyone they knew served their country against their will and died for a cause they didn't support. They then imposed their own bogus war on younger generations. May the circle be unbroken.

Nice argument. You do realize it was a baby boomer that created a new cold war in the "war on terrorism" that has involved millenial and X generations in continuous combat for almost 20 years, right? You do realize the social, political, and economic cost will be paid by? You guessed it.

I desperately want the app back. I'm sorry to say that my friends and I all report fewer visits since the app went the way of the dodo. It was just too convenient. Monetize it however you have too with ads or whatever... Just bring it back.

I don't mean to poopoo the hard work done with getting 3.0 off the ground but in fairness I never complained about the site because I used the app almost exclusively.

You're probably not offended because your race has never hurt you. That's okay and it's a good thing. People come up with chips on their shoulders about almost anything from living up to standards set by older siblings or being too short. In every case we just try to respect people's sensitivities, and almost nobody is sensitive about being white. The standards are different for everyone, that's just the way it is.

Also, I don't believe fighting was allowed in other sports when they were still segregated and it was only white people. The problem here is that assholes and common folk alike are biased and one's perception of any activity will be influenced by race or ethnicity. In hockey, fighting isn't even really "allowed" but I don't expect anyone to know that when nobody even knows what hockey cleats look like.

Good on you for the link and plug. Great site. Good article ;)

12/14/2017 - 3:25pm Apple is not a

Apple is not a telecommunication service and is not regulated under title II of the Communication Act. Whether or not they should be able to dictate which carriers suport their devices is open to debate, but it certainly has nothing to do with net neutrality.

Cherry picking revolutionary devices that made it big despite lack of NN rules being in place is stupid because that device only exists because of good regulation. If it weren't for NN principles, the internet might not exist as it is today as telecos would have faught against hooking modems to phone lines just like they did carterfone, hush-a-phone, and eventually answering machines and fax machines.

Go suck an egg and take your stupid articles with you.

12/14/2017 - 2:49pm Your post and argument are so

Your post and argument are so incoherent I can't figure out what you're trying to say. If NN laws were in place apple would not have been able to engage in what you think is anticompetetive behavior, but NN wasn't the law of the land so therefor regulations are bad because they weren't in place?

12/14/2017 - 11:59am You did confuse it. You are talking about

You did confuse it. You are talking about information services and content creators. Broadband internet access services are different and should be treated differently. Comcast can argue they are an information service all they want, but people don't get internet from them to obtain a free @comcast.rape email address. They need to be regulated like the telecos

12/14/2017 - 11:03am No new sources of internet? You rube, what are you

No new sources of internet? You rube, what are you even talking about? It's clear you know absolutely nothing about the internet. The proliferation of the internet was possible thanks to modems on your phone line (using your connection however you want)... the exact kind of innovation big companies tried to shut out time and time again. Net Neutrality is protecting innovation, not the other way around.

12/14/2017 - 10:44am More to the point, do you think you should be able

More to the point, do you think you should be able to hook an answering machine or modem to your phone line or should the telephone company be allowed to decide?

"I work in Telecom". Nice appeal to authority, but your analogies are terrible and I don't think you know anything about the issue. The internet today is a telecommunication service and should be regulated as such. The end.

This "bullets in the chamber" thing is starting to irritate me. Brian says it all the time and I ignore it because it really doesn't matter and I get the point. But if we're all going to start saying it, can we switch to "bullets in the magazine"? I'll even settle for clip as that is not technically incorrect... I don't know if football players are kept in clips or magazines.

Good point. I think that the play count is critical information to have before we start making inferences. In general, all of the numbers are way lower than I would have expected.
