|05/17/2018 - 12:07pm||Rotations aren't matched||
While this is theoretically true, rainouts and schedule differences mean pitching matchups are mostly random. The one data point, I have actually contradicts my point for Verlander, but still shows better data.
As it randomizes further into the season, you only face a fellow #1 on 1/5 of your starts.
|04/25/2018 - 12:17pm||Seattle Stuff||
I'm sure there is somebody that lives there that can tell you better than me, but the family was just there for a couple of weeks over Labor Day.
Olympic was the highlight. As people above have said, you get to see all sorts of different ecosystems in one park. It is a long drive out of Seattle though, so unless you want to rush, you might want to stay in/near the park for a night to give you at least 2 days.
I really liked Rainier, but we did it after Olympic. That was a day trip from Seattle. The downside was, after seeing all the different ecosystems, Rainier's only real focus is just the mountain, so you spend a day circling your way up from the bottom. But, lot's of nice short hikes that the kids could hammer out.
Not a national park, but we did some whale watching. Drive out of town to get on the boat, don't board in Seattle or most of your trip is spent boating out to where the whales are. So start from Port Angeles, Anacortes, or San Juan Islands.
|10/02/2017 - 12:10pm||Curious about homecomings||
Is this King of the Sophomores really a thing? Did other people have homecomings where there was a king and queen for each class? I ask because my high school had 1 king and 1 queen from the senior class with a "court" of 4 other guys and 4 other girls who were the runners-up.

|09/21/2017 - 3:34pm||Salary ROI is what should matter||
That would put UM at #3. To me, that overall ROI doesn't make any sense. Why would you average Salary with overall ranking? That is offsetting salary with prestige. Who cares! If you look at overall ROI with all universities there are things that don't make sense.
Colorado School of Mines and the Air Force Academy have the 3rd and 4th highest salary return on investment but are 34th and 44th in Overal ROI. What could be so wrong with those schools that you absurdly recoup your costs but they get ranked 25% of the way down?
|09/19/2017 - 4:06pm||Soft Shell Helmet||
Sort of like this?
I was always wondering if they could make them like F1 or Indy cars where above a certain threshold, they just explode apart to distribute the forces.
|07/30/2017 - 11:11pm||Englischer Garten||
The park actually has a real name that is not "the Chinese Tower and Beer Garden". It is called Englischer Garten. The tower and beer garden are just inside it.
|05/22/2017 - 4:54pm||AFL Suspensions Don't Mean What You Think They Mean||
Arena Football league suspensions are like a reserve list. So, either Gallon doesn't want to play with them or he is staying in Japan or getting in shape or whatever. It means DC gets to keep his rights but he isn't using a roster spot while he figures out his plan.
|05/15/2017 - 4:25pm||Horrible Stuff||
Why is MDen the best in the business? Because they carry the best of all time Nike Gear.
And, agreeing with everyone above, undisputed retailers are a horrible thing.
|05/05/2017 - 12:09pm||Perfect Mile - Seconded||
I will second the perfect mile and it is somewhat topical given the current Nike Breaking2 project going on right now.
Bill Simmons' Book of Basketball wasn't horrible. Biased and funny in all the ways you would expect.
|01/10/2017 - 10:53am||No Way!||
I don't think that was clearly the strategy at all. On the replay they show from roughly Watson's position, it looks more like the Alabama cornerbacks bump wasn't allowing the receiver to get to his position to set the pick. So, he just dove/fell forward to make hiimself as big as possible to try and get a pick.
It was clear on the PI that the Alabama corner grabbed to avoid the touchdown, but on the final play it didn't look like Alabama was grabbing on purpose or the slot guy would have been grabbed, too.

38-13 Michigan I win

I've watched zero seconds. On the other hand, I've watched hundreds of innings.
|08/09/2016 - 11:32am||Not really, based on your discussion points||
If you are worrying about wasted money that could be better used to better society or other people instead of upping my sneaker game, then the same argument could be used for time. Why are you wasting your time entertaining yourself on a sports blog when it could be use to helping other people or bettering the situation?
OTOH, you are spending your time on the sports blog trying to talk us into spending our money better, so that could be construed as charitable use of your time.
|08/09/2016 - 11:27am||Technology isn't quite there yet||
I'm sure it's being worked on, but it isn't quite there yet. I'm assuming cameras won't work becuase you can't always see the ball.
You would either need something buried in the goal line or on each sideline. If on each sideline, you could be 80 feet away from what you are trying to measure to the mm.
The real issue is where does the sensor go. If it is suspended in the middle of the ball, you would then have to know the exact ball orientation to know if it crossed the goal-line depending on if the ball is crossing side first or tip first.
tldr: One day we will be there, but you are stuck looking at cameras until technology catches up.
|07/08/2016 - 2:04pm||Walking||
Walking is overrated. I've found a couple of ways around it. It just sits at my desk and pokemon are randomly appearing. So far, I also just carry it in my pocket when walking places. The phone vibrates when a pokemon gets to close and I capture it. Don't need to walk around looking at the screen.
|07/08/2016 - 1:31pm||Really?||
It's not a neg bang for books. It's a neg bang for your assertion that reading a book on a kindle is worse than reading a physical printed book? Have you ever tried one? It has it's flaws but may be superior in every way except feel and smell.
|06/24/2016 - 3:13pm||First 2 Rounds includes round 1||
There is a lot of double counting in this chart. First two rounds includes round 1 picks, so UM has had 9 2nd round picks, not 33. Then, you can take into account that there used to be more rounds and that is where the total comes from.

|12/16/2015 - 2:42pm||Saw that too||
I noticed that, too. Then I thought that a last-minute trip to Orlando on New Year's is probably expensive. Then football tickets, steak dinners, sight-seeing, etc. Sounds all expensive
|11/23/2015 - 11:35am||Interim?||
What sort of orangements have they made for the rest of the season?
|11/09/2015 - 11:34pm||Seconded||
I also don't know why they don't make the headgear mandatory for all youth. Just like adding cages and mouth guards in other sports. Fewer concussions in every sport the better

|11/02/2015 - 4:08pm||Holding on Goal Line Plays||
I just noticed on the first/last GIF that Maurice Hurst is getting the crap held out of him. Next time I become a football coach, I'm going to mention to refs to make sure and watch for holding on goal line/short yardage plays and see if I can't get myself a nice 10 yard cushion.

|05/24/2015 - 8:42pm||Club or Varsity?||
I can say that I had no idea that we were talking club and not NCAA. I appreciated the clarification of it being club and was confused at the lack of Ivies in the results box. So, I don't think (as was stated) that ak47 was trying to reduce their accomplishments, merely trying to educate and clarify to us other peons.
|05/22/2015 - 1:00pm||NBA||
Those NBA contracts at the bottom of the list are brutal. Kobe is semi-understandable, but Amar'e and Joe Johnson is absolutely ridculous.
|04/15/2015 - 4:21pm||Salsa||
You may be able to get something semi-similar. At least in Michigan (and I assume nation-wide), Garden Fresh makes the Margaritaville salsas. So, if your local establisment carries Maragaritaville, you might get a pseudo-fix

|10/30/2014 - 2:41pm||No good way to make it sound crazy, but...||
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to make the story sound crazy, but I think it was awesome. Sadly, it doesn't really involve drinking or passing or any other fun circumstance. It also probably can't ever be repeated, so that is cool.
Way back in the day, I was working for the athletic department doing maintenance and custodial stuff at Crisler and the Stadium. I worked my way up the peon rungs and was given a master key (that unlocked everything) to make it easier for me to do my job and to get started in the morning/lock up at night.
Anyway, I arranged for my housemates and I to challenge a group of friends to a basketball game. We went to Crisler at 11:00 one night, shut the curtains to the tunnel/concourse and turned on the lights. We preceded to play first to 100 with breaks at every first to multiple of 25. Couple of hours later, and my squad had lost by two due to a couple of missed layups by yours truly. there is photographic evidence, that I won't share as to not incriminate the others.
|07/10/2014 - 10:43pm||Exactly||
7 months older than your twins and he is going to be a junior.
|06/13/2014 - 11:43am||Broadcast Rights||
Since the NCAA isn't selling broadcast rights (only access to the building), then I guess they won't mind when my friends and I shoot the game on our phones (multiple angles, replay from about every seat in the house) and put them out there for people to see.
|03/10/2014 - 3:16pm||Hmmm?||
Ziggy Ansah kills people?
I know LaMarr Woodley does, but since he doesn't have a current employer...
|03/06/2014 - 10:54am||My Username||
My name on this here blog is a nod to my two favorite Michigan basketball players of my "adult" years of watching basketball. "Adult" signifying 15 and older so that I was old enough to actually figure out what was going on.
Jimmy King (#24) - My favorite of the 5 due to his athleticism. Think GRIII.
Maceo Baston - Coincided with my time in Ann Arbor. Had "length" before it was a buzzword. I loved watching him swoop over people for dunks/blocks/boards
|02/12/2014 - 9:25am||Ugh!||
Stupid Hayley Wickenheiser! Old people shouldn't be allowed in the Olympics.
Come on USA!
|01/27/2014 - 3:44pm||You Are Both Correct||
While I agree that sports are a lot of hard work and to be very good involves extra exertion on the part of the athlete, aren't they correct that the people with "good genes" have a leg up on the rest of the people.
I can practice and practice and become a much better ball-handler and shooter, but I'm not going to get any taller and not quick enough to compete. And, if an athlete ends up at a school with fewer athetes, they can skate by and still be the best. It won't pan out that they make it to the next level or the level after that, but they can definitely use their athletic skills to their advantage without working for a little while.
|01/10/2014 - 9:00am||I think it is the 2014 meme||
Just look how awesome 2014 is! We are good at basketball! Hooray!
|01/05/2014 - 11:02pm||1995 Purdue||
As a bunch of people above, the 1995 Purdue 5-0, freezling, sleety horrible game. As I recall, it was parent's weekend, so nobody showed up due to the weather. I shouldn't have went, but I had a man crush on Mike Alstott and wanted to see him play. Instead I got to watch the punters, sloppy fields, and my fingers freeze.
|01/03/2014 - 10:05am||Best Players?||
In what world isn't Stauskas the best player on the team? He isn't the best athlete, but he is a better basketball player than GRIII. I'd also give him a nod over McGary, but I am glad for all three of them.
|12/11/2013 - 1:22pm||Flag Football||
I hadn't read any of the information that you linked to, but I was going to mention that flag football would be the way to go. Then you don't need any equipment aside from a ball and some flags. Hooray, everyone can play!
The problem with that is I could see ultimate becoming a better international fit than even 7-on-7 flag football.
|03/20/2013 - 1:15pm||Transcend Sports Fandom?||
I guess you had to be there. Ace, I forgive you and Jack, as you obviously didn't know better and could be excused as Bulls fans. For Gail to don the Bulls jersey is just wrong.
Admittedly, I have a jaded view of the Jordan years, as I was a Pistons fan. Becuase of that, I would never wear a Bulls sweatshirt. This would be like one of us, a couple of years ago, wearing RGIII jerseys to a bowl game. Greatness should not transcend fandom!
I did enjoy the rest of the article, though.
|12/20/2012 - 1:25pm||I wonder...||
Without doing any research, whatsoever, I wonder if the reason the "academic" schools rank highest because they still value the educational value of the non-revenue sports.
As the old saw goes, "You can't compete in the director's cup unless you have a lot of different sports in your athletic department."
|08/27/2012 - 10:46pm||Justification (probably not true, but...)||
I know it is probably not the real reason, but the reason given is a solid one: "The song has come up on the list in recent years because it happens to be played in so many other professional and collegiate venues and has no real origination here at Penn State."
We should follow the same reasoning with Zombie Nation, Seven Nation Army, etc. Don't let friends steal songs from other campuses.
|06/07/2011 - 8:58am||At Least It Was Fair||
On the plus side, at least they were fair this time. On some of the other 10 best, they made sure to give each school one and only one place (campus traditions, best fans, etc.). It gives them some credibility to give some schools multiple awardees.
As far as Woodley v. Graham goes, I feel that the legend of Woodley has outstripped the reality. Graham was at least as good and did it on a team where he was the only weapon so had to deal with more attention. So, I would keep Graham before Woodley, but would probably put them back to back.
|05/09/2011 - 3:18pm||Wolf?||
My only question, is why the wolf? Is that a google images error by Orson, or is that a Barwis reference?
