|07/23/2018 - 7:39am||The hype videos are…||
The hype videos are generally superb, but more to this point, I've actually already written the "OT Season Is Ending" post for next month out of fear about what that transition on this site is going to look like. Obviously, it wasn't an absolute prohibition, but as I like to say, more a "narrowing of scope" of such posts, but as the board is constructed right now, keeping track is going to be a bit harder.
|07/22/2018 - 6:23pm||...and of course, Lytle's…||
...and of course, Lytle's hometown of Fremont, Ohio would eventually also give us someone we will undoubtedly run into in the "There Are..." posts as we get into the week before the first game.
You all know who, of course.
|07/22/2018 - 6:18pm||"Do they still charge…||
"Do they still charge ridiculous money to use the valet lot at the Chicago Marriott?"
I have other questions, but I feel that this is a good lead so that the people at Media Days are aware.
|07/21/2018 - 11:40pm||To be fair, it's really…||
To be fair, it's really either Montreal / Calgary or "The Phantom Menace" on TNT - you're probably better off just going with the CFL and not getting upset with Jar Jar Binks all over again.
|07/21/2018 - 3:27pm||I would definitely take a…||
I would definitely take a walk around downtown as well as campus - they have changed rather a lot in those 30 years, to say the least, especially with all the new high rises going in.
Check out some of the restaurants - there are some great ones that you'll only find here.
As someone mentioned, check out a Metropark if you want a little break from the city - Hudson Mills, Kensington, Lower Huron, and a few others are about 30 minutes from Ann Arbor.
Definitely a homage to athletic campus as it is August - pick up a practice and take a stroll down by the stadium.
|07/21/2018 - 11:18am||Watching that video now...
Watching that video now...
I know that at one point, Taylor was homeless and living on the streets in Detroit, but I've also seen interviews with him talking about turning it around in the 1990s, even getting his Ed.D. I believe he's a director for the Salvation Army in SE Michigan now.
|07/20/2018 - 8:40pm||Ah, we've reached peak July…||
Ah, we've reached peak July....
I can't wait until someone at some blog out there ranks the restrooms at Big Ten venues. Give it a week, folks.
|07/20/2018 - 3:14pm||This format makes tracking…||
This format makes tracking down the burner account - "Ghost Of (you name here)" and the like - a little more difficult, to say the least.
|07/20/2018 - 2:45pm||Like a couple other people,…||
Like a couple other people, I don't remember this name ever coming up on any Michigan list, but then so many names come up when we talk recruiting that it is nearly impossible to keep track.
In any case, there has to be more than slow response on the part of UCLA here. I would be intrigued to hear the entire story.
|07/20/2018 - 11:04am||Today is the precursor to a…||
Today is the precursor to a long weekend in Traverse City, so I am simply trying to skate through until 4 PM so I can go home and pack for that. Productivity? Well, I will accomplish a few things, I am sure.
|07/19/2018 - 9:48pm||My experience as a kid on…||
My experience as a kid on Mavis Beacon Teach Typing prevents me from being successful doing any significant typing on a phone, but I haven't had too many problems at least reading the site on Chrome on Android. I simply wait until I can get to a desktop / laptop to post, which works for me because it gives me time to mull over my usually raw first takes.
|07/19/2018 - 4:50pm||ESPN has finally mastered …||
ESPN has finally mastered "reduce, reuse, recycle". If you reduce your staff until no one of quality is left, reuse the same tired concepts and recycle the narratives, you just might get to a point where the only person watching your network is the person out there who enjoys Stephen A. Smith.
|07/19/2018 - 1:40pm||Oh, work has done plenty to…||
Oh, work has done plenty to keep me busy - it is pretty crazy around these parts at this time of the year in my particular field.
There's also simply enjoying the seven months of bad sledding. Actually, I don't miss the cold, considering how f*cking cold it managed to get right around New Year's and how buried in snow we managed to get here in Michigan for six weeks after that.
I do, however, miss the seasonable fall temps and the football that comes with it.
|07/19/2018 - 1:37pm||There is probably only one…||
There is probably only one way to find out, but I highly doubt that any of us have sufficient access to Schembechler Hall to show up with psychologist to help with the dream interpretation part of the interview.
|07/19/2018 - 10:23am||You know, he's not the first…||
You know, he's not the first person to either construct or rehash some sort of "football / might of the USA" analogy, but every time someone does this, admittedly my eyes tend to roll because to me the actual strength is in being able to comfortably produce the amount of reality TV that we do in the vain hope that the world will somehow believe it is real. That's fortitude.
|07/18/2018 - 5:46pm||3:30 and evening games also…||
3:30 and evening games also work better for me because I have a family, oddly enough, and especially if I am going by myself because then I've had the day with them at least. I am also not a morning person, so it is a real drag to get to a noon game, and for noon games, the only thing I want is coffee. Later on in the day, I am all on board with full-on tailgating.
|07/18/2018 - 2:41pm||The best perk of out-of…||
The best perk of out-of-season and studentless Ann Arbor is the ability to at least find some parking quite honestly.
Zingerman's is up there though. It's a bit pricey, but it is a part of the Ann Arbor experience that those who haven't had it yet should have.
That last sentence is peak offseason too.
|07/18/2018 - 2:38pm||It seems like a rolling…||
It seems like a rolling contract means that he'll be the coach here until he retires for good, I would think, and I cannot think of a better scenario for Michigan basketball right now.
|07/18/2018 - 12:27pm||Well, go for the Rutgers…||
Well, go for the Rutgers game, but stay a bit because you're within earshot of New York City. That second part makes it worth the trip honestly.
|07/17/2018 - 6:37pm||I actually have been on here…||
I actually have been on here less frequently and I am a mod, but to be fair, the real indicator will be next month when we start getting camp news. If that goes as slowly as it is right now - and July is a slow sports month anyway save for baseball - that will be very interesting indeed.
|07/17/2018 - 9:44am||I only named a car that I…||
I only named a car that I owned once, and it was mainly in jest because after so many years of owning it, I thought that it probably deserved a name.
I had a 1998 Prizm from 1997 to early 2011 (13 years, 4 months approximately) and I eventually began to call it One Sick Car, mainly because of its greenish hue.
|07/16/2018 - 9:12pm||It was freezing outside at…||
It was freezing outside at the time, but I did a victory lap around the backyard, much to the dismay of the pets and the chagrin of my family.
|07/16/2018 - 5:08pm||I don't know how you fire…||
I don't know how you fire David Beaty. He actually took the job at Kansas, after all, and that's a brave and selfless act unto itself.
|07/16/2018 - 5:06pm||Did anyone say quinoa yet?…||
Did anyone say quinoa yet? That's on my list.
- Filet Mignon
|07/16/2018 - 10:27am||“What people misunderstood –…||
“What people misunderstood – it’s not impossible, but it’s really hard,” Rosen said. “I get tagged [on social media] every three months with articles about some athlete graduating in a really hard major – I should be getting tagged every day. Schools should find a way to help every kid succeed in their chosen major."
He's not wrong here certainly. We should be hearing a lot more stories like this but we don't, and that's one of the things that makes this proposal very interesting to me.
|07/15/2018 - 7:51pm||White Castle isn't great,…||
White Castle isn't great, but it has a utilitarian purpose. On the rare occasions that I've been hungover to the point of being more or less useless, sliders are rather good at alleviating that situation inside a matter of hours. Going there just for the hell of it? No, I won't do that.
|07/15/2018 - 12:47pm||Well, happy birthday!
Well, happy birthday!
I actually just celebrated the 20th anniversary of 21 just this past Monday.
|07/15/2018 - 9:09am||Oh, if only the mods had the…||
Oh, if only the mods had the capability to actually fix things on the site....
I have some ideas, if that day ever comes.
|07/14/2018 - 5:48pm||(No subject)|
|07/14/2018 - 3:08pm||I was supposed to stop by a…||
I was supposed to stop by a reception after the 2004 MSU game. I managed to get there just as they were cleaning up, and already on the way to drunk. No need for the open bar.
That's what people get for scheduling special events during football season - you get late, not entirely sober me.
|07/14/2018 - 12:18pm||I mean, you would think MDOT…||
I mean, you would think MDOT is ultimately responsible for the upkeep of their own right-of-way, but here in Wayne County, the county seems to do most of it, even employing people with a public service component to their court sentences to skewer trash along I-94. On the M-roads, I think many of those are in the state's ROW but maintained locally. The relationship when it comes to maintenance on area roads seems multi-layered, to say the least.
|07/14/2018 - 9:34am||Oktoberfest in Frankenmuth…||
Oktoberfest in Frankenmuth is definitely a cool trip if you can make it.
I would include a trip to one of the Metroparks like Lake Erie or Hudson Mills as well, in addition to many of the places folks have already mentioned here.
|07/13/2018 - 10:41pm||Some good selections, to be…||
Some good selections, to be sure.
I feel like Dr. Bob Hartley needs to be on this list, and perhaps Lou Grant.
|07/13/2018 - 7:54pm||I have actually made lunch…||
I have actually made lunch for contractors before (I am a fairly decent chef), especially if they are doing good work, and I have given guys beer after a job is complete, but I cannot recall actually tipping.
|07/13/2018 - 7:46pm||Traverse City Rye Whiskey…||
Traverse City Rye Whiskey. Quite smooth, and after the week I've had, much needed.
|07/13/2018 - 11:48am||Pretty sure that all the…||
Pretty sure that all the points that all of us would have collected in the last couple weeks are forever lost in the pocket of the blog's "other pants", so crediting of points will be strictly on a "what are you willing to do for them" basis.
|07/13/2018 - 8:26am||The big question for…||
The big question for Franklin moving forward is whether his attack will not skip a beat sans Moorhead, who’s now the head coach at Mississippi State.
I am kind of intrigued to see if this is the case too. Moorehead's offense was....something.
|07/12/2018 - 5:05pm||You know, I was in Berrien…||
You know, I was in Berrien County over the weekend a couple weeks ago. I had no idea I was in an outpost of OSU fandom. If anything, I would have guessed Notre Dame - the Cracker Barrel in Stevensville was full of ND gear and the liquor store that I stopped at on the way to had ND flags hung inside it.
|07/12/2018 - 3:58pm||To be fair, the cat urine…||
To be fair, the cat urine thing only came into being when we ran out of bleach for the waterboarding equipment one day, and the problem has since been corrected - by the health department in Bolivia, of course. Apparently, expired milk or GTFO.
|07/12/2018 - 2:37pm||I have to think hockey and…||
I have to think hockey and basketball carried quite a bit of the weight here, which makes me wonder how much higher it could have been with a more impressive football season. We will never know, but even at that, being in the top five on such a list really is not bad at all.
|07/11/2018 - 10:36pm||One of the problems with the…||
One of the problems with the current setup is that punitive point loss is not yet possible, at least in the screens I can access, and really, the only remedy for overtly political posts is the same remedy I've always attempted - delete subthreads, or if needed, the post itself.
As always, I encourage people to contact me via Twitter. I am still adjusting to now having to actually read all threads (since the upvote / downvote ratio is no longer a thing) rather than skim a statistically significant sample.
|07/11/2018 - 7:10pm||Hell, if you're Alabama, you…||
Hell, if you're Alabama, you can be a Top 100 recruit and still get grayshirted in the last week of August. It is all simply part of the process.
|07/11/2018 - 5:24pm||You know, I heard that part…||
You know, I heard that part and thought to myself, "You never want to call an injury timely at the risk of sounding brutally insensitive, BUT...."
|07/11/2018 - 5:19pm||Former Indiana University…||
Former Indiana University quarterback Zander Diamont tweeted Monday that one of his coaches at Indiana once called Adolf Hitler a "great leader."
Others might disagree, but if you're going to go this route to motivate others, or indeed at all, you've heard all that you need to hear from that person and they do not need to speak ever again.

I remember their slogan - "Just Do It....But Not In The Cup Because It's Not Airtight And That's Just Gross Anyway"
|07/10/2018 - 2:18pm||After his performance in…||
After his performance in Vegas, I was hoping he would get a contract and it turns out that he did, as he should have quite frankly.
Good luck to him.

Harbaugh drives Dodge Demon on Big House turf
This was covered yesterday, although these days, you can blink and a thread is gone from the first page of listings.
|07/10/2018 - 1:08pm||Strangely enough, I would…||
Strangely enough, I would think Dan Leach could be an interesting replacement as well, but as a couple people have alluded to, he does have a shtick that he might need to tone down to make the broadcast work. It would sound very un-Leach-like then, but he does have a decent voice for it, I agree.
|07/10/2018 - 10:58am||....or indeed behind the…||
....or indeed behind the false wall in Al Capone's vault. Geraldo simply was not sufficiently observant, you see.
|07/09/2018 - 3:37pm||I've always thought that we…||
I've always thought that we did our best to show Michigan State that maybe Bobby Williams was it and was worth keeping, and really, even in 2002, we showed MSU fans that despite fantastic and overwhelming performances from B.J. Askew and John Navarre, the Spartans simply refused to be completely shut out. You would think it would mean more to them.
