Some of it is luck too. Karlsson shot 23% this season, which is just insane and (most likely) isn't sustainable.
For reference, guys like Malkin, Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid, Kane have never had a season where they shot over 20%. Even Gretzky "only" had 6 seasons with a shooting % higher than 20%.

I'm on mobile, so I can't give a good link, but Chris Solari on Twitter says:
MSU signed 3 players from the program since 2008. Michigan has 4 players in that time; others at WMU, NMU, GVSU & Calvin College. Every Big Ten school, national power VB programs and small colleges also have recruited players from the Illinois club team.

|01/08/2018 - 10:47pm||So I definitely think that||
So I definitely think that JD's initial point is a bit ridiculous. Hockey being a majority white sport isn't *the* reason there's fighting allowed in hockey, as some of the commentators here have been all to point out.
However, I think some people here are being very ostrich-like* with regards to racial bias and media coverage.
There's definitely a racial bias in the way we look at black and white athletes and aggression. An NBA player cheapshots someone, he's labeled a thug. Todd Bertuzzi breaks a guys next, and he maintains another 10 years in the NHL.
Another example is that both the NBA and NHL have had incidents where players entered the stands and engaged physically with fans.
In the NBA, it's the Malice at the Palace, and players involved received suspensions of season-ending, 30, 15, 6, 5, and 1 game for 4 players. Some of the players were even charged with assault and battery. Newspapers writing retrospectives about it have headlines like "An Oral History of the Scariest Moment in NBA History"
In the NHL, it's just the shoe incident, and the players involved received suspensions of 8, 6, and 6 games. No assault/battery charges, and when the New York Times writes about it 30 years later, you get the headline, "Over the Glass, and Into Hockey Lore". Hell Mike Milbury has gotten a GM position, and has been a mainstay TV analyst for almost a decade now.
*yes I know that's just a myth

Here's an article about it. But basically in 1959 the PA announcer at MIchigan Stadium was announcing scores from around the country. It's a funny school name, so he included it, people laughed/cheered, and they've done it since then.

|11/27/2017 - 9:53am||Eh, to be honest, there's||
Eh, to be honest, there's really not that much evidence against Schiano/Bradley. Just to reference some dates, Schiano was at PSU from 90-95, while McQueary coached there from 2004-2011 (played from 94-97).
McQueary's testimony is that around 2001 after telling Paterno what he saw, he then discussed the situation with Tom Bradley. Bradley then told McQueary that another assistant had told Bradley that he the assistant had seen something in the early 90's. That assistant was Schiano.
Both Bradley and Schiano denied it (which, duh), and criminal charges were never filed against them because of the double hearsay.
So for OSU (and formerly UCLA, with Bradley), you can make the argument that both men are innocent, and they're just coordinators on their second chances.
But for Tennessee, which has already had problems with player discipline (it was called the Fulmer Cup for a reason), and sexual assault (Peyton Manning, Butch Jones calling a player a traitor for helping a sexual assault victim, and a Title 9 lawsuit), hiring a .500 football coach with that much baggage is just silly
|11/27/2017 - 9:41am||Lol he had 1 good year at||
Lol he had 1 good year at Rutgers, 2006, where he went 11-2 and finished 2nd in the Big East. That's it, that was the only year where Rutgers was ranked, they were never close to being a top-25 program.
He never won a conference title, and only had 3 years where he finished in the top half of the conference.
He's not a good coach
|11/27/2017 - 9:37am||That's been the biggest||
That's been the biggest surprise for me as well, is seeing a lot of national media members pushing so hard for Schiano.
Yes, he made Rutgers into a somewhat competitive program, and went to 6 bowls, which is better than anything they've done before, or after he left. But he did that in the Old Big East, playing teams like Cincinnati, South Florida, Pitt, Syracuse, and Connecticut on a year to year basis. And even then, his Rutgers career was only 68-67, and his best conference finish was 2nd place.

They didn't really blow us off the field with Cardale. They were only up 28-21 when Barrett went down, and Cardale led them on 1 scoring drive that was mostly Elliott carrying the offense.
Then Bosa had a strip sack on Gardner that was returned for a TD, and by then there was like 2 minutes left in the game
|11/22/2017 - 9:28am||Eh. Tate actually played in||
Eh. Tate actually played in the Illinois game though. Barrett went out the first play of the 4th quarter with OSU up 28-21, then Cardale came in and threw 3 passes for 7 yards and rushed twice for 18 yards
|11/17/2017 - 9:42am||You know that panic attacks||
You know that panic attacks are a serious condition right? It's not just some, "oh my gosh, I'm so stressed and panicking right now" thing
When you're having a panic attack, it can be almost impossible to move, and extremely hard to breath, your speech can slur, it can almost feel like a heart attack. Service dogs can be trained to recognize the early signs of an attack and can help by not letting it get to that extreme end point, it's not just strapping a vest on a random dog and calling it a day.
But sure, you know best, because you've been around the block before, am I right?
|10/24/2017 - 10:07am||All of the initial Athletic||
All of the initial Athletic "sites" were pro-sports focused. They started off in the Bay Area, then expanded to Chicago and Toronto, and then have expanded out to their current cities today. So it makes sense to call their site "Minnesota", since there's not a single (current) pro-team there that goes by Minneapolis.
It's only been in the last months that they expanded to the college teams
|10/24/2017 - 9:53am||I think the "built-in||
I think the "built-in audience" is all the people online who claim to only want print sources/articles instead of videos. As far as I know, The Athletic is mostly print, and has any videos/podcasts cleary marked.
Whether or not they reach that audience remains to be seen
|10/24/2017 - 9:45am||You're right, it makes||
You're right, it makes absolutely no sense to name their site "Minnesota".
I mean, c'mon, we all know the teams are called the Minneapolis Vikings, Minneapolis Twins, Minneapolis WIld, and Minneapolis Timberwolves...

|10/10/2017 - 6:24pm||I dunno, Harbaugh doesn't||
I dunno, Harbaugh doesn't have the hardware, but I feel like Swinney is the perfect comparison, and what having/trusting the right guy can do.
Dabo was an interim in 2008, and then a full time coach in 2009. From 2009-2015, things weren't perfect for Clemson; while they were piling up 10 win seasons, their record against rivals (South Carolina, GT, and FSU) was terrible. They went 1-5 against USCe, 3-4 against GT, and 2-4 against FSU. I mean, Clemsoning was a term for a reason
But Dabo stayed the course, made some coaching adjustments (firing 1 coordinator, and replacing another who got an HC gig), and now these past 2.5 years, they've lost 2 games total, gone to the playoffs twice, and won a NC last year.

Regarding drunk people, they're going to get hammered if it's either 12pm or 8pm. There's always going to be that 1 person in every section who didn't control themselves, but yesterday wasn't too bad.

More research is definitely needed, and revealing the methods for diagnosing/pulling concussed players would be nice transparency, but personally I have no problems erring on the side of caution over what ultimately amounts to just a game
