06/13/2018 - 5:30pm People who don't spent much…

People who don't spent much time outside of downtown/midtown would have that assessment.

Don't disagree with any of the statistics, but Detroit blows for two reasons for the average citizen like me: High property and automobile insurance rates.  City income tax sucks as well.

When I moved back to Detroit in 2010, I almost had a heart attack when my rates jumped.

06/13/2018 - 5:13pm Now I'm looking forward to…

Now I'm looking forward to the WC.

06/13/2018 - 11:15am He'd also say the FCS…

He'd also say the FCS schools down south are better than most MAC schools.

06/13/2018 - 10:19am I doubt Miggy can be bought…

I doubt Miggy can be bought out considering how much money is on the table.  The best they could hope is to trade him, when healthy, and eat 75% of the contract.

Also, Stewart won't be in Detroit until next year at the earliest.  It makes fiscal sense not to start his MLB service clock until they're sure he's ready.

06/13/2018 - 10:15am That's how I felt about…

That's how I felt about Miggy after he came back from the DL.

06/13/2018 - 10:13am Sucks for Miggy, but this is…

Sucks for Miggy, but this is good for the Tigers.  Hicks can play every day so Avila knows if he's the real deal or not.

Plus, they need all the help they can get to drop in the awful AL Central.  It's best for them long-term to get another top 5 pick in the draft next season.

Let's have a real rebuild, and not whatever the heck the Red Wings are doing.

06/06/2018 - 10:33am Yeah, but his kids will…

Yeah, but his kids will probably be in the League by then.

06/04/2018 - 12:04am This is not happening for three reasons

1. There are so many bad contracts that he would be stuck with this crew of misfits for at least a couple seasons.  No way they can compete with Boston and Philly with so much money tied into Griffin, Drummond and Jackson.

2. This team can't do any of the things Beilein likes.  They can't space the floor properly with Griffin and Drummond on the court at the same time.  Reggie Jackson can't shoot the 3.

3. Gores is one of the worst owners in professional sports.  He shows up drunk to games and makes an ass of himself.  He only comes to handful of games.  Oh, and look at how he botched the GM and head coaching search.  Hire a GM, then let the GM pick his coach.  Don't do it in reverse or concurrently.

If Beilein leaves, I'll be surprised because he usually makes smart, well thought out decisions.  Plus Beilein shouldn't be in the same conversation as Gores.

05/31/2018 - 4:06pm Preseason hype doesn't matter for UM-ND

They still draw the most eyeballs for a regular season game.  I don't think Auburn/Washington is going to move the needle too much, even though it's a great cross-sectional game.

05/31/2018 - 1:05am We still don't have a GM

Who would agree to coach when they have to win immediately to satisfy the GM that didn't hire them?  I'd love Juwan to coach here, but the Pistons are owned by the only idiot alive that could make the Lions look like a sound, functional organization.

05/30/2018 - 8:45pm I'm kicking myself

I looked at purchasing a house that sits off a fairway in 2008.  It was $43K and needed about $50K in renovations to restore it back to its former glory.  Time to make some friends with my almost neighbors.

05/30/2018 - 7:02pm MLS does have a job

I'm pretty sure I've read that she's still getting paid by MSU to hold some position.

Either way, I don't feel sorry for rich people who have to cancel their travel plans, especially when it relates to testifying about how you went to sleep while a monster was preying on innocent girls.

So it makes sense that an @sshole would hire an @sshole lawyer to represent them.

05/30/2018 - 12:56pm Unless Houston Nutt makes a guest appearance

I think I'll pass.  I'll take Nutt's lawyer actually.  Then we'll probably get some good stuff.

05/30/2018 - 12:52pm double post

05/30/2018 - 12:52pm We don't make the Final Four without him

Say what you will about his regular season performance, but he looked like a 2nd round NBA draft pick in the tournament.

True, he doesn't deserve deity status.  But he is still a 2-year player in Beilein's system, which we all know is hard on freshmen.

05/30/2018 - 12:46pm I'd take him over the guy the Pistons draft...

...in the 1st round this year.

05/30/2018 - 10:02am He didn't make it because he couldn't shoot

Sound familiar?

05/28/2018 - 3:34pm A guy in my church was at Iwo Jima

He was so quiet and humble that we didn't know it until his funeral two years ago.  Great gentleman.

05/28/2018 - 10:09am 1992 Rose Bowl

If we would've won that game, we split the national title with Miami.

05/27/2018 - 11:01pm NBA's always been a superstar first league

That's why it was refreshing to see the Pistons win in '04.  The basketball may have been ugly at times, but that will probably be the first champ without a surefire HOFer in decades.

05/25/2018 - 2:30pm Enjoy that baby boy energy

I have five kids and they're all awesome.  But man, the boys are a bit more active.  Here's just a minor list of what my youngest boy (currently 2 yrs old) has done:

1. Ran the hot water in an upstair bathroom while the family was asleep.  Water overflowed and ruined the ceiling and burned out a sensor in the water heater.

2. Threw the cap to a jar down the toilet, which of course got stuck somewhere in between the first/second floor.

3. Ripped a hole in a pool yesterday that I just blew up two days ago.

4. Ate a glob of vaseline last night.

With all of that...and more...I wouldn't trade my kids for anything in the world.

Enjoy your son, record as many milestones as possible, and remember to laugh, even when he pelts your car with rocks...yep, my baby boy did that this week also.

Congrats!!!

05/25/2018 - 2:16pm "The Ford family stepped in"

Famous last words.

Seriously though, this city/metropolitan area needs to let one of these rejections (Amazon, Army, MLS) wake them up.  Detroit is not a city that is going to win any of these bids without giving these companies exactly what they want.  Improve the schools, cut the city tax and get at minimum a late-20th century transit and maybe they can start to win some of these companies/organizations over.

05/25/2018 - 12:58pm Kid Rock...

...is that you?

05/24/2018 - 2:55pm If he takes that job...

...he's running because he knew all those guys on the team were littering and kept them on the roster.  That's the only reason why he would pass over better previous coaching opportunities to coach a dead end team at the end of his career.

05/24/2018 - 2:51pm Hiring a coach before a GM is a bad move

Unless Jeff Bower will be the GM (shudders to think about it), it's hard to think that another GM would be willing to work here and have a new coach forced upon him.

05/23/2018 - 3:25pm Not much if you're Jake Fromm

Just sayin'

05/22/2018 - 11:39pm 1990 season was full of gambles

That 1990 season was full of gambles.  People forget that Moeller went for two up 20-10 against Iowa and failed.  Of course we lost by a point.

At OSU, John Cooper gambled on 4th and 1 in the closing minutes instead of playing for the tie, which of course failed and we kicked a game winning FG as time expired.

05/18/2018 - 10:00am You think that's bad

I have a friend in Canada who told me some of their tax dollars go to support the royal family.  I assume that's true for the other commonwealths (Australia, Jamaica, etc).  They literally do nothing of value.  The most impressive "Royal" of my lifetime was Diana and she did all her philanthropic work after she divorced them.

I guarantee that whenever the Queen dies, there will be a lot of commonwealth nations that will cut their ties to the monarchy.  Just Raback it.

05/17/2018 - 10:38am OSU purely for the atmosphere

Granted, I've only been there a couple times for The Game, so I don't know what it's like when they play Bowling Green.

LSU at night is second.  It's weird how different that place is at night.  It's a more genteel crowd at 3:30.

05/16/2018 - 7:40pm Watched the CBC version also

Bob Cole nailed the call in his own way.  Bruce Martyn (Wings radion PBP) was pretty good.  The clip on ESPN.com right now plays his call of the shot.

05/16/2018 - 7:34pm Historical side-note

The last helmetless player in NHL history (Craig MacTavish) played in the game. He retired the following season, but you see his helmetless head about 5-10 seconds before the video ends.  He played only one playoff game after this one.

05/16/2018 - 7:28pm I was a total homer as a kid

Hated Gretzky and Jordan.  Wings couldn't get past Gretzky in the conference finals and Jordan was the Pistons chief rival in the late 80s/very early 90s.

If the Lions were any good, I would've hated Walter Payton.

05/16/2018 - 9:54am I'll enjoy it while it lasts

I think they will regress once Boston, Houston and LA show up on the schedule.

Some people forgot was that we traded for Fulmer, Boyd and Norris for good reason.  Norris will hopefully figure things out in Toledo, because he has the potential.  Boyd is realizing his potential and Fulmer, despite a few rough outings, has been as advertised.  In fact, if Fulmer's last two starts were just average for him, the Tigers might have a couple more wins.  Throw Liriano in there and you have a decent starting rotation.

My fear is that we hang around the division lead at the trade deadline and become buyers instead of sellers.  We still need to build up our farm system full of position players.

05/14/2018 - 12:07pm Not surprised

I expect the states to makes it legal so they can get more tax revenue.

Now, I can drive to downtown Detroit, instead of flying to Vegas for the first day of March Madness.

05/11/2018 - 11:29pm Cam's not much bigger

They're both practically the same height and Cam has 20-25lbs on Milton.  Joe's not done growing either.

Joe is more of a dropback QB, but I'd settle for Speight-level escapability.

05/11/2018 - 11:25pm Shane had two years of coaching under Harbaugh

I would say he received proper coaching and still couldn't get the #1 job.  I'm giddy to see how Joe will look after two years of Harbaugh's coaching.

05/09/2018 - 2:21pm Tanking in the NFL makes tons of sense

No lottery and the Patriots, Steelers and Ravens are aging.

But they resumed being the butt of all jokes after the draft.  Drafts like this year's is what will keep them mired in mediocrity.

05/04/2018 - 8:36pm The statue faces Northeast

It's been that way since 1945.

05/04/2018 - 10:37am So this is how the negbang thread gets started

So this is how the negbang thread gets started

05/04/2018 - 10:19am It'd be nice to land a couple 5 stars

What we've done was amazing, but we needed two miracle shots (Kansas in '14 and Houston this year) to make the Final Four.  I'd love to see Beilein get a couple guys that can get him a #1 seed and go on a tournament run like Villanova this year so he can get a ring.

05/01/2018 - 9:00pm I see more RichRod 1st year than Hoke 1st year

I don't see how Herm's CEO-style coaching approach is going to work.

04/30/2018 - 3:29pm +1 for pee on wall

I'm sure there's a more eloquent way of saying that, but this was close to perfect.

04/30/2018 - 2:07pm 3 Rose Bowls

3 Rose Bowls - 1991 (1990 season), 1998 (1997) and 2007 (2006)

Favorite Memory: Going bonkers when I saw the refs running off the field after time ran out on Wazzu.

Will I go to next Rose Bowl: Yes.

Love another non-Big House stadium more than Rose Bowl: No.  There's not a close second behind the Rose Bowl, though I can live without the traffic before/after games.  It's like AA gameday traffic x1000.

04/27/2018 - 10:47pm Glover Quin is 32

He'll probably finish his contact and that will be it.  I wonder what that says about Diggs and Killebrew though.

The Lions were awful vs. the run after Ngata was out.  Unless they think Hurst will be available as a FA, I don't see another Day 1 starter at DL remaining.

04/27/2018 - 7:45pm I hate that they play that game on Monday night

And I really hate it's on cable.  The NFL should play their Wild-Card games at 1PM/4PM on Saturday, and the CFP title game could be at 8PM.  I guess that would be much of a good thing.

04/27/2018 - 7:38pm They could have at least softened the tone

The wordplay was harsh, but fortunately they didn't waste a lot of time talking about that era of Lions football.  They could have mentioned that he was one of the best color commentators before the Lions hired him.

04/27/2018 - 7:32pm I'm concerned about LB more than S

If they switch to a 3-4, I just don't know if they have LB depth behind Davis and the FA's they signed this offseason.  I don't know where guys project, but I'd love Mo Hurst and/or Shaq Griffin.

04/27/2018 - 6:53pm Sam's Club member, Costco drinker

Their Kirkland vodka is good (and comes in a nice big jug).

Also, you don't need a Costco membership to buy alcohol from them (at least in Michigan).

04/27/2018 - 5:51pm But will it tide us over?

I refuse to watch any practice highlights or hype videos because it will cause me to lose sleep, ignore my wife and five kids, and play NCAA 14 nonstop until we tee it up in South Bend.

There will be an article today or tomorrow that will speculate that it's title or bust for Harbaugh because he'll have the best roster on campus in over a decade, maybe two decades.  I will refuse to read this article because it will be pure speculation, yet probably true.

04/27/2018 - 5:40pm Can't remember the last bad weekend in Michigan sports

The hoops and hockey losses were on weekdays.  I hope we can continue this trend for the rest of the year.
