Kick it into gear? Has he

Kick it into gear? All he's done so far is make things worse...i.e. torpedo Lucien. Maybe we don't want him out there. Q: How can he want Lucien for defense if he has no DC?

So then you agree we can fire

So then you agree we can fire this guy if he sucks next year?

That's mostly true, but I

That's mostly true, but I think we should judge his 2012 class by their performance as freshman.

Hoke needs to get to work on

Hoke needs to get to work on the DC position and locking up Lucien now....Someone needs to remind him that Golden Corral will be open all year.

So Michigan might be able to

So Michigan might be able to pull in a recruit in spite of their head coach? I don't like where this is going...it's like the anti snake oil. What happens next year when we don't have all these 3* SDSU recruits to poach?

right, but it sounds like

right, but it sounds like Lucien said he hasn't been contacted and the 2 UT guys said they have been.

Yea I agree. Also, I don't

Yea I agree. Also, I don't know why the OP said "If were getting a member of the Michigan Mafia such as Austin, Heater or Bedford, one would guess that we could have gotten them relatively quickly" ---wasn't that the reason we weren't getting Hoke as the coaching search stretched on and on?

He struck out on everyone who

He struck out on everyone who was worth extra money, so we went with the fat guy who used to coach here with the losing record.

"they know what corners you

"they know what corners you have to cut to do that, and they're not going to do it. "

are you serious?

What is

What is tiresome/ridiculous/cliched/void of analytical reason about the fact that the man has a career LOSING record in two below-average conferences? I think it speaks far more clearly than anything else ever could. Any argument that he is a top 20 or even top 50 coach in the country is simply pie-in-the-sky dreaming.

Given your willingness to

Given your willingness to massage statistics until they are almost meaningless (as with your glossing over Hoke's career 47/50 record) I'm curious if there was any coach in the country you wouldn't have found reason to fall in love with?

Look, those of us

Look, those of us disappointed and skeptical about the Hoke hire will remain so until some games are played. No one should delude themselves that a good press-conference or newspaper interview makes a good coach. I still say we made the equivalent of the Bill Stewart hire - someone the players love and who is committed to the school, but who just doesn't have the chops to be a BCS contender. Here's hoping our three star can turn into an all-american.

So where did Allen's

So where did Allen's brother-in-law's come from?

I think the primary "argument

I think the primary "argument against hoke" is that he has a losing record as a head coach. As has been stated before, we're all basically hoping he's a three star recruit who turns into an all-american. fingers crossed.

Honestly, this has been

Honestly, this has been covered ad nauseum...there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of the Hoke hire. That doesn't mean we hate him, its just legitimate fear given his past performance as a head coach. Read any number of the past posts/diaries etc. that cover this.

No, if he added more seats,

No, if he added more seats, it would totally eclipse whoever the coach is.

Let's hope they're easier to

Let's hope they're easier to win than MAC games

Hoke is truly not a San Diego

Hoke is truly not a San Diego State Man...wait...are we the only ones that do that?

FWIW, Pasqualoni is 141-76-1

FWIW, Pasqualoni is 141-76-1 as a head coach, with most of those coming in the big leagues.

well I guess we aren't the

well I guess we aren't the only ones with a prediliction towards uninspiring hires. (kidding) So I guess RR will be taking that year off.

Can't we just use the

Can't we just use the turpigskin one?

Yes. Compare how we responded

Yes. Compare how we responded to failure to how Texas responded to failure. They brought in all the newest up-and-coming coordinators to reinvigorate the program. What did we do? Try and travel back in time, even though that style of football was what caused us to lose perpetually to Ohio State in the first place.

Look, the point is this is a

Look, the point is this is a sports blog where people share their respective opinions. If there were only one acceptable opinion, this would be a pretty boring place.

Whether some people on this site express their doubts about Hoke will not affect his likelihood of success or failure here. I know everyone talks about how RR had no support early on in his tenure, but I don't think they're talking about the plebes on the blogs . They're talking about rich alums, former UM players, and the media. Hoke has already gotten a better reception than RR from all of these people. Whether some of us "little people" voice our own misgivings will have no affect whatsoever.

Oh right, tell me you really

Oh right, tell me you really don't believe the whole "I only looked at Hoke" bullsh*t. I mean we know he looked at Pinkel and Fitzgerald....so I guess he only looked at those 3, and conveniently overlooked Miles and Harbaugh?

There are plenty of reasons to beproud to be a UM alum, but being self-righteous and blind about who our coach is and is not is not one of them.

As a Bengals fan, I recognize

As a Bengals fan, I recognize the mindset that led to firing of RR and hiring of Hoke. Mike Brown treasures loyalty and deference above all else, and wants to think he is special and better than everybody else. The group of "Michigan Men" alums responsible for this faceplant, who apparently wield far more power than I ever knew before, have shown a startling similar attitude throughout this process and are in perfect company with DB the DB.

are we really going to try

are we really going to try and take swipes at LSU just because we couldn't poach their coach? Let's try and make an effort to not look like a scorned woman.

While there are certainly a

While there are certainly a lot of variables, that doesn't mean you throw the record out the window. After all, the noise should average out after a period of time (unless someone is just really unlucky). We can slice it lots of different ways, but the fact is that the guy has an overall LOSING record as a head coach. While people can get pumped up all they want by a press-conference, football games are won on the field. I, for one am afraid that we just hired our very own Bill Stewart-someone the players love and who talks a good game, but who just can't cut it as a head coach at this level.

The same reasons that

The same reasons that top-level head coaches were reluctant to come here will extend to coordinators (maybe even more so, since they are even more expendable). Thus we have a fairly uninspiring OC already.

I agree that coach Bill

I agree that coach Bill Stewart's, I'm sorry, Brady Hoke's love for the school is not going to make him a success here.

Look under the "appropriation" heading.

Well so much for "Brandon

Well so much for "Brandon wouldn't return to AA unless the deal was sealed." I hope he liked taking the night off last night! Not like he had anything better to do!

New perspective Well I actually have to give db credit...he built up the prospect of hoke so much that people are jumping for joy that we got miles
So did the OTL segment have

So did the OTL segment have no impact on your feelings about LM?

What is with all the

What is with all the excitement? I realize no one wants Hoke, but has everyone forgotten about Patterson and Gruden? RR should NOT have been fired in order to bring in Les Miles (even if he's not the absolute worst alternative).

If it is LM, this confirms that Brandon had NO plan going into this.

looks like we weren't as

looks like we weren't as lucky as that one guy who figured out the timing

I really hope we made a run

I really hope we made a run at Gruden and Patterson. LM was not worth firing RR over

do we know if he is a kidder?

do we know if he is a kidder? I have to believe they had pretty strict instructions (If they were informed)

haha, +1 (figuratively

haha, +1 (figuratively speaking)

Not trying to be snide, I just don't have an account.

I mean really, PINKEL?!

They must have a lock on

They must have a lock on Pelini

Has anyone posted on the fact

Has anyone posted on the fact that Pinkel declined be interviewed for the job? WTF ar ewe trying to interview Pinkel for? We are screwed.

That's the way I'm leaning,

That's the way I'm leaning, too. Now hopefully it wasn't in favor of choke...er...Hoke.

Haha, where's his PR guy? He

Haha, where's his PR guy? He would have told him: unless your signature is on the Michigan contract, just lie and say you'll be back, then later say that the circumstances changed.

I agree...or at least, I am

I agree...or at least, I am hoping that it is "out of respect" for Miles, before Brandon BLOWS EVERYONES' F*ing MINDS and hires Gruden (or Patterson, but preferably Gruden, or brings back RR)

"awesome...T-shirts!!!"

"awesome...T-shirts!!!"

Especially since DB is

Especially since DB is worried about UM's "brand" and appeal etc. etc. Hoke would not exactly be a marketing coup, except maybe to crabby former UM coaches.

If it's Hoke, there's no way

If it's Hoke, there's no way he is announced at the BBall game...too much of a risk that people would boo. It would have to be someone majore like Patterson or Gruden (even announcing Miles at the game might be risky).

I definitely have to disagree

I definitely have to disagree here. From the way things have gone down, after Harbaugh said no, it looks like someone else is Plan B, Miles is Plan C, and Hoke is Plan D. I think that Brandon has been stringing Miles along as he attempted to land Plan B. He wanted to keep Miles as a fall-back, so he slow played him...resulting in the bizzarre press-conference we saw today.

I think the fact that we're

I think the fact that we're not willing to draw any firm conclusions about the winged plane going where it does suggests its not really such an "obvious blunder" to be using it during the coaching search.

That sounds like something a

That sounds like something a coach would say who IS about to leave.

No "I" haven't been contacted...my agent has. And why say something as coy as "Why would I leave, I'm having so much fun here" when you could say "I'm not interested in Michigan, only LSU"
