The jock strap was bought by HBO’s John Oliver and donated to the last Blockbuster Video store in Alaska... a s gag to help Blockbuster drum up business.

I like the comment that said: "I didn't know Cobra Kai had an online MBA program."
|03/06/2018 - 9:24pm||Good Movie||
I like the Big Lebowski. But for my money, my favorite Cohen Bros. movies are Miller’s Crossing and Raising Arizona.
Miller’s Crossing gets no mention for how excellent it really is.
|12/31/2017 - 1:22pm||Bama scheduling||
I won’t blame them for FSU bottoming out this year. But, they typically play the minimal schedule they need to while still getting in championship discussion. That usually means a bye before LSU and an FCS team before Auburn. Most years they’ll play one decent non-conference opponent but rarely will they ever play two. So, they basically play a three game schedule to get to the SEC championship and national championship playoffs...and they almost always have an extra week to prepare for any marginally competitive game. The only exceptions depend on whether another team in their division or a cross-division is better than usual.
It may be smart but it does make me less interested in licking their boots. They are a great program but they are a great program that does not seek to stretch themselves if it might reduce their chance at a playoff berth.
|12/31/2017 - 1:05pm||Through 2021||
The four year thing makes sense, but I guess it takes us through 2021 because they remain on our ‘20 and ‘21 schedules too...which means the four years begins next year?
|12/31/2017 - 11:58am||Question?||
Why is it we play Wisconsin in ‘16, ‘17, ‘18 and ‘19 but play other teams in the West Division like once in eight years (eg, Purdue)?
I don’t really care that it makes our schedule harder, but I have family who went to Purdue and Indiana and like the family rivalry thing. So I am honestly curious about how it works and don’t have any sense of how often we should be playing teams besides Wisconsin.
|11/07/2017 - 4:54pm||Completely Agree||
I am sure that I am perceiving the incidence of private small-plane crashes to be higher than it actually is...but I feel like there have been several celebrity deaths due to small/private plane crashes. John Denver, JFK Jr., Halladay, Troy Gentry, Payne Stewart...I am sure others.
Owning and/or flying my own plane just seems like something I would screw up.
Either way, the loss of Halladay is tragic.
|09/09/2017 - 11:32am||Corroboration||
I think the point here is that the police report provides corroboration of other accounts that (1) Paterno knew of earlier allegations, (2) Paterno's own words confirmed it in a report McQuery gave (before he knew that Paterno would claim McQuery's report was the first he ever heard of it), and (3) it supports other third party accounts that Paterno was aware before 2001.
Paterno was not only only morally bankrupt for failing to report...turns out he was a self-serving liar who used his previously sterling reputation to cover up his own tacit complicity.
|06/14/2017 - 7:37pm||Michael Hedges||
Kinda classified as new age...but could do amazing things with a guitar and even had his own unique two-handed picking technique.
Hedges was amazing to see live. Died tragically in a car accident in 1997.
|03/23/2017 - 12:02pm||It's all good||
For my part, I was not looking to antagonize you.
Kiffin can be a scumbag. And he may be in the right here. Both can be true. On that I suspect we can agree.
My guess is that Kiffin told him he'd give him a job, but the guy was required to go through the HR process by the university. HR made him submit a background check. He submits his info. He moves to South Florida. He fails background check. He is not allowed to start work.
If he moved before everything cleared, then that was his choice. He knew he had a conviction and if he disclosed it on his HR application, he could have asked if it would prohibit his hiring.
Also, there are some states who have laws that prohibit public employers (like universities) from asking conviction information until the later stages of the hiring process. Not sure if Florida is one of those. That law allows folks with past convictions to get further in the hiring process and get hired more often because the employer considers the merits of the applicant rather than screens them out at the start. The downside is that sometimes people move before the conviction info is discovered. It is what it is.
|03/22/2017 - 11:24pm||Contingent Job Offers||
It's very common to offer someone a job and include in the offer letter that the offer is contingent up passing a background check.

Yes. And I'd rather be services orally than by hand. But it doesn't mean that the latter is unwelcome or should be diminished by stating that I had a greater, unconnected preference.

|12/16/2016 - 12:29pm||Totally Agree||
We've hired coaches of elite recruits. It has an impact. People the kids feel comfortable with end up in the program with the top recruit. Family members probably support having a coach who helped get the kid to that point at their university. It's permissible and impactful.
We probably don't need to escalte the bagman comments or comparing it to Treadwell. We got beat for this recruit. We wish him well and move on to the next.
|12/05/2016 - 11:41am||And Mike Riley||
Former Oregon State and current Nebraska coach Mike Riley.
So, Harbaugh, Rich Rod, Riley and Anderson...that's like four active coaches who have coached in both the BIG and Pac 12.

So, I have been thinking Jon Snow is slated to lead an army of wildings and other possible loyalists south...perhaps to unite the north in a defense against the white walkers or even to King's Landing (join forces with Dany? Tyrion holds Jon in high regard so he might advise such an alliance).
The oath of the Night's Watch says that "my watch shall not end until my death." He has died so he should be free to lead an army anywhere he sees fit...

Dear high school coaches. UM is no longer able to host a satellite camp for your student athletes. If you band with other high school coaches put on a camp in your area and invite me to attend, I will be happy to serve as a volunteer. JMFH.
|02/24/2016 - 7:57pm||True, but...||
All of that may be true. But, he also may want to work a UM to be closer to his son during his remaining time as a UM player. Then, when Henry is done, Biff can go back to Baltimore (if that is what he wants) or move up the ladder, as you say.
|02/17/2016 - 3:18pm||Natural Fill||
It is possible to use natural fill rather than the crumb rubber on turf fields. If the studies' suggest any cancer problems, it may be possible to install or maintain existing fields without the crumb rubber tires being used as the fill. Of course, the natural fill is more expensive.
|12/30/2015 - 6:11pm||Now you are being a tool.||
Are you really arguing that he should be forced out?
He committed to being a student and player at Michigan. Starter or bench player, we should allow every kid who commits to the program an opportunity to earn their degree. I would be very disappointed if we became a program that pulled scholarships before that happened or forced kids out because they did not develop into starters.
Maybe that would harm our ability to compete with Alabama, but I don't give a damn.
|12/01/2015 - 9:32pm||What is our best win?||
Our best win is BYU? NW? We beat the teams we were supposed to beat. But none of the three best teams we played.
|11/30/2015 - 7:40am||Four years||
I also don't have a problem with any school committing to four years with a coach, but I was one of the folks that thought Rich Rod should have been given a fourth year. I certainly have no problem with Purdue giving a fourth year to their current coach over the MAC flavor of the month (when they just attempted that path with Hazell).
|11/22/2015 - 2:28pm||What stunt?||
Anyone know the stunt to which he is referring?
|10/06/2015 - 7:31pm||At the time...||
I would say Drew Henson was over-appreciated when he was splitting games with Brady. Carr invested a lot in keeping him away from baseball only to have him leave to play baseball--at the expense of playing time for a senior Tom Brady.
Henson was good when he played a full season as a starter but, to paraphrase Things to Do in Denver When Your Dead, his reputation far exceeded his skills (mammy-rammer).
|08/25/2015 - 2:04pm||The dumbest thing about this...||
Setting aside the many good reasons we want it played every year, this is a dumb idea for even the most jaded branding/marketing wanker.
One of the main reasons that Ohio State and Michigan stay relevant when their performance is lacking is The Game. Even if Michigan blows, they will still register on the national stage toward the end of the season precisely because The Game is played every single year, without fail. The same will be true when OSU has a down year or period. You start skipping a few years here or there and people will care less (ala UM vs. ND).
Even a branding schmo should be able to see that it would hurt the brand.

Kelvin Benjamin ran a 4.61. Hard to keep pitching Funchess as a Benjamin type WR when he runs a full tenth of a second slower.
Will be interesting to see if he starts to market himself as a TE again to try and get back in the first round.

I think this would stop if he submitted an ADA request for accommodation to his employer asking to be excluded from the media sessions due to a social anxiety disorder.
|01/25/2015 - 12:15am||I agree||
He said plenty of positive things about UM. Many of you seem like you want to hate him and are just hearing the things that support your point of view.
And he said a lot of positive things during the last several years when UM has done well. He seems over the Amaker thing and has genuine appreciation for Coach Belein.
|01/06/2015 - 12:09am||Agreed!||
I could not remember his name, but this is the guy from the Haloscan days that I was trying to remember. He was a regular and valued poster who suddenly announced his retirement from the site (no anger, no big causal event)...and then actually never came back that I saw. Seemed like a good dude.
|12/30/2014 - 7:23pm||In the context of this||
In the context of this article, it's a fair comment. He moved from USD, to Stanford, to SF, to Umich without staying put too long. I read this less as a comment that JH really wants to be in the NFL and more as a suggestion that JH has been a bit of a nomad as a coach. I hope he stays a long time, but this comment by the Bee was a reasonable one--not another feeding of the NFL centric trolls.
|12/30/2014 - 7:04pm||Good natured piece. I||
Good natured piece. I enjoyed that one and expect some of the kookiness that Harbaugh will bring. It's part of the total package.
|11/22/2014 - 9:56am||Vandy||
I am not sure whether things have changed, but in the 1990s Vandy had a reputation for turning away the top recruits it could get due to very high academic standards--including eventual Kentucky star and Nashvillian Ron Mercer. I think they also had no athletic director or had some similar alternative structure that de-emphasized athletics.

|04/10/2014 - 9:59am||But is it sourced?||
Sure it's his job. But if the people in question are denying it, it makes you wonder whether he has an actual source or is contorting a safe assumption into an actual decision without getting anything from a legitimate source.
|03/16/2014 - 3:24pm||UVA and UM swap||
It seems to me the committee can give the 1 seed to UM if we win (with UVA as the 2 in the East) and give UVA the 1 seed if we lose (and us the 2 seed in the East), allowing the committee to keep the rest of the bracket the same.
|03/15/2014 - 7:56pm||Nitty report||
Lunardi's nitty report has us at #3 overall jumping both Nova and Wichita State.

|03/10/2014 - 5:30pm||One of the more interesting things about the finale||
Personally, I thought one of the more itneresting features of the finale was MM's breakdown at the end, when he was discussing his near death experience.
This was a character as steeped in nihilism as I can remember on television. References to death being the end, with no promise of afterlife and a stark opposition to religion and its promises of an afterlife or salvation. Even in the last episode, he refers to people as "sencient meat"--to which WH responds, "What's scented meat?".
Then, during his near-death experience, he feels a connected to his late daughter and father and emerges from that experience with the conclusion that in the battle between light and dark--that light is winning (since there was only dark in the beginning).
Whether one believes in afterlife, etc., does not matter to me. But, I thought that change represented a dramatic shift in the character forged by his experience in the case. Either way, I thought it pretty interesting from a character development standpoint.
|01/20/2014 - 8:12pm||FERPA||
FERPA is generally interpreted very broadly. Almost all records created by a university about a student are treated as FERPA protected. There are some specific exceptions created by regulation and statute, but most docs don't fit in them so most are protected.
|01/07/2014 - 2:17pm||Franklin seems a risky pick for PSU||
Franklin is a good coach with a bright future. But there is an ongoing rape investigation at Vandy involving football players. In all likelihood, Franklin will emerge free from any legitimate criticism or stain. But, it's not closed yet.
If you were PSU, would you want to risk hiring him only to find out in a few months that he knew, said or did something that reflected badly on him? Seems like an unnecessary risk when there are other good candidates unconnected to any similar investigation.
Seemingly hits too close to home for PSU at this point.
|12/29/2013 - 3:39pm||Sportcenter led with UFC||
I actually went to the BWW Bowl last night. We took our young kids so we left early enough to get home by 11 pm AZ time and we happened to catch the start of the evening SportCenter. There were four bowl games yesterday and some top ten basketball match ups. ESPN led SportCenter with the UFC fight.
I think that says a lot about where UFC has come from and where it's headed. It's a demographics and advertising revenue thing and it does very well at that thing.
|12/09/2013 - 5:19pm||Disagree||
I used to love watching a huge slate of overlapping bowl games on NYD. I feel like they now go out I their way now to make sure the games don't conflict. NYD needs more games moved back into NYD, not less.
