Seriously. Who gives a crap if Urban gets hired by OSU? So what? Have we gotten so bad that they define our reaction to events? Holy shit guys. Lighten up.

I guess Hoke was ready for THIS stage but Dantonio not ready for OSU stage even though Dantonio has proven himself more as a B1G coach than Hoke? Come on now..

09/24/2011 - 9:18pm posted from iPhone

Like 4-0 means anything. If I recall the 2007 team that spanked Florida in a bowl game started 2-2 and had a very nice season. What matters is the B1G. Until we see them through October these games frankly don't mean much.

09/05/2011 - 11:58am posted from iPhone

Yes but when your Big Ten Co-Champ (MSU) gets owned by a down Alabama team in a bowl it speaks volume about where the talent level of each conference is at. They can boast all they want when our Big Ten Champs can stand the heat in Bowl Games. Even Wisconsin couldn't handle TCU. Let's be real about where we are talent-wise between the two conferences.

06/06/2011 - 12:51pm Disagree. LeBron has taken

Disagree. LeBron has taken over previous games in these series, particularly against Chicago and Boston. To look at one game and make an assumption that LeBron is no longer relevant in these kind of situations sounds like this is more of an anti-LeBron comment by Greg D than a legitimate question. If Greg has watched the entire Heat playoff series, he would understand why LeBron answered that way. In fact, duriong the Chicago series, Wade was all but absent and LeBron or Bosh stepped up.

01/23/2011 - 8:37pm Thanks. I would of thought

Thanks. I would of thought that if plenty of 3 stars make it into NFL then you probably wouldnt get a significant correlation in the relationship cause the variance would be too dispersed across the spectrum of 3, 4, and 5 stars. If there is a significant correlation, particularly over time, then the rankings make sense. It's just that the anecdotal responses illustrating successes of 3 stars (Mike Hart, AJ Hawk, etc) make it seem most are diamonds in the rough. Obviously, player development, position change, and other factors impact success of any given player. Was just curious.

01/21/2011 - 2:31pm Definitely appreciate the

Definitely appreciate the analysis. Thanks for doing this. It confirmed some thoughts i had about some of the defensive backs. I really liked Avery and Johnson. I think they have the mentality already that Hoke and Mattison are looking for - aggressive. Add to that Cam Gordon, Demens, and Vinopal.

The timid ones to me were Rogers, Floyd, and Christian. Floyd was ok but not convincing at corner, atleast not through the Big Ten schedule. Rogers was just, well, Rogers. The poor kid went into tackles expecting to be crushed (not the right mentality to have as a defensive back). And Christian, well he didnt take advantage of any opportunities when made available.

So i have a feeling Hoke and Mattison will love Avery, Carvin Johnson, Cam Gordon, Demens, and even Vinopal. Again, this is just referring to DBs/Hybrid guys that were on the field last year.

01/20/2011 - 3:53pm I rather have a Brian who is

I rather have a Brian who is transparent in his thought process as to why he reaches a particular conclusion - which makes it easier for everyone to evaluate and debate - than someone who has a "gut feeling" about that same conclusion but cant back it up with any supporting evidence. For me the process is just as important as the outcome.

Not just tackling, but tickling will be a nonissue as well.

But Brady could/would of driven him away if he would of said the wrong things - like, Denard, we plan to run a strict Pro-style offense. We hope you can adapt, thanks.
So I think the argument is half right. While Denard may be primarily staying for other factors, he could have been driven away by the new coaching staff. For the latter, I give credit to coach Hoke.

I'd say that just as it was obvious to many on this board that RR would likely not be retained after this past season, I'd say it was also very likely that DB wanted Harbaugh and Miles before coming to Hoke.

Why would DB say it was not acceptable to pay Michigan coaches middle of the pack salary only to hire a coach that will likely make less than RR did? Those kind of statements are made when you have certain people in mind you want to go after.

I am fine with Hoke but this report confirms my suspicions about how this process went down. What DB has been good at is spinning the heck out of this decision to make it look like this was the #1 option all along.

Funny thing with is argument is that it's being singularly applied. Somehow people just "know" what Hoke will produce because of his previous record (47-50) and connections to Carr. Yet when that argument was applied to RR - that because of how well he had done at WVU he would do well at UM - it didn't work out so well did it?

Point is, many intervening variables will impact expected outcomes (injuries, luck, coaching, recruiting etc). It boggles my mind the level of assertions being leveled at what Hoke will or will not accomplish as a UM coach.

Thank you very much. We appreciate it.

01/14/2011 - 7:07pm Agree. I think its a bit too

Agree. I think its a bit too early for Coach Hoke (or any other coach taking over a new program) to get into specifics on day 3. In terms of priorities I would think assembling his coaching staff is 1st with recruiting tied or a close second (presuming some recruits are waiting on position coaches to be announced and see where they would fit in their scheme). What formations or how he will use a current player is fluff at this point - and the majority of what I have heard on that issue has been to placate those who feared Denard leaving, including Denard himself.

01/04/2011 - 11:16am nothing about what i have

nothing about what i have seen the last 3 years would lead me to describe our coach as - fantastic...except for how he handled the Mealer situation. But on the field, far from it.

01/04/2011 - 9:27am Funny folks are harping on

Funny folks are harping on Harbaugh. I do recall when the RR hire was made, and how it unfolded, that quite a few folks (including myself) were displeased with how he handled that situation. Back then i was thinking - how can a guy who grew up in that state, went to that school, and coached it to national prominence just leave like that? How would i feel if a Michigan alumn would have done that to us? I can understand the guy leaving for a better job, but how he did it? To me that was just wrong, plain wrong. How could you not even address your coaches, your team, and handle the situation with dignity?

So we can start pointing fingers about what Harbaugh has done, but our coach did not necessarily behaved very ethically to me as he started his tenure at Michigan. And this has nothing to do with NCAA violations or the like. I am simply talking about how he handled his departure from his home state and beloved school. Some dont want to bring that back up cause he is one of ours now - but the fact remains he was tactless and irresponsible. Sorry but people tend to forget that he stepped in a lot of shit making his way to Ann Arbor.

12/12/2010 - 10:36pm posted from iPhone

I misspoke. My apologies; my thoughts were along the lines of most first round NFL picks. Early in this decade Miami had four first-rounders in 2001, five in 2002, four in 2003 and an N.F.L.-record six in 2004. They may be in a lull at this moment but all it will take is good coaching for this team to come right back up. To say Miami is a stepping stone to PSU is laughable - unless, as I said previously, the individual is doing it for personal reasons or ties to the university.

12/12/2010 - 9:07pm posted from iPhone

Well, Tom Lemming named Al Golden recruiter of the year in 2009. Lemming on UM's hire: "The Hurricanes hit a home run"

12/12/2010 - 9:00pm posted from iPhone

I am from Miami and have followed the Canes as long as I can remember and I have to disagree with your assessment. A good coach in the talent-rich South Florida area is more likely to win championships than any or most coaches at PSU. Coaches rarely leave Miami, they get fired.

Now, whether Golden leaves for PSU for personal reasons or because of ties to the university that is a different thing. But the likelihood of winning championships are more likely in Miami than PSU, hands down. It's still the university that has sent the most players to the NFL in the nation.

12/03/2010 - 2:53pm If people would be sick of

If people would be sick of just the whole CC discussion in general then you would expect to see both pro-RR and anti-RR comments on this issue to be negged to death. That's not what's happening--hence supporting the OPs statement.

The one issue i have seen regarding this topic is that those who are bashing individuals who have come to the conclusion that RR might not be the right fit here are lumping them all into one basket. Some have hated RR indeed since day 1, others came to the conclusion he was not a good fit after year 1, others arrived at it after this season ended (myself included). My reasons are purely performance based. For others, they may be more emotional (not a Michigan Man, what's this hick from WV doing coaching here, you name it).

This goes to what the OP is saying - everyone is just resolving to name calling when there have been three years for people to analyze and make their own judgments about the future of this team. Some continue to stick by him and think he will take us where we need to go--that's great. It doesnt make contrary opinions less credible. They are just opinions after all.

12/01/2010 - 9:43pm I brought in those specific

I brought in those specific portions because it was the first time that he has publicly stated he was unhappy with how the season ended. The other stuff is well known already. I didnt "cut and paste" parts of the story for any other reason. The interesting thing on MGoboard lately is that opinions of those who think RR is done and will likely be let go are somehow deemed inferior (and continuously negged) to those who think he will stay, even though, they are both just opinions. Its becoming a more intolerant place to come and share opinions among fans of the same football team.

12/01/2010 - 8:49pm posted from iPhone

Well, he is on the short list for the Miami job, per the Miami Hurricane twitter feed. He may or may not be interested, but there is a lot of smoke indicating Harbaugh is looking at his options.

11/30/2010 - 11:23pm that's fine, but i think we

that's fine, but i think we can infer from those statements that this season did not meet his expectations. Now the question is what will he attribute this lack of performance to? Also, the second quote makes it clear that RR's job security is under evaluation as a result of such expectations not being met. He has not reached your conclusion, so far.

11/30/2010 - 11:01pm My impression is that this is

My impression is that this is not enough for Dave Brandon based on what he recently told Chengelis http://detnews.com/article/20101129/SPORTS0201/11290383/U-M-athletic-director-not-happy-with-season--but-won’t-rush-decision#ixzz16pQzZy3q

This has been his most open interview about his assessment of the season:

1) "I said when I got this job our expectations are very high," Brandon said. "We want to compete for championships, we want to be among the best, and we clearly did not do that this year. I'm not happy about that..."

2) "Had we performed better during the season, it wouldn't be an issue," Brandon told The Detroit News on Monday, referring to Rodriguez's job security. "People are concerned and they're unhappy with the way the season unfolded and particularly the way the season closed, and I understand that.

3) "No true Michigan fan is happy with where we ended up in the Big Ten and how the season unfolded, particularly the end." Brandon, said he includes himself among U-M fans unhappy with the season.

11/30/2010 - 9:58pm This is a new development.

This is a new development. Sounds like its close http://miami.rivals.com/

11/29/2010 - 10:24am That's quite interesting. No

That's quite interesting. No trying to inspire any conspiracy theories here but this gives AD Brandon and JH an alibi if they so desired to discuss the future of Michigan's football program and JH's interest in being a part of that future. Can things get any more weird?
