1) Recruiting services don't rate "Vipers" separately and honestly probably don't fully understand what a viper is in Don Brown's system. Aside from a guy like Jabrill (#1 kid in the country), sites are understandably going to not reward a hybrid LB/ Safety kind of kid

2) Harbaugh prioritizes general athleticism and intelligence more than other coaches. He may be right or wrong, but that's his system and his belief system. Ranking sites don't necessarily care about this as much.

3) Don Brown and Harbaugh offered him after he camped at Michigan and he's in their top (maybe #1 prospect) for Vipers

4) "Recruiting stars matter" is based on the final star rating as of like March 2019. Let's see where this kid ends up.

06/21/2018 - 12:31pm Who the fuck cares? MSU…

Who the fuck cares? MSU means nothing outside the midwest for football. I work in finance in the NE and honestly know nobody that went to or cares about MSU.

Welcome home Berkley! Go Blue!

Exactly and as history has shown Hoke and RR were not the best at (among many, many things) recruiting.

Nobody. That's TVH buddy.

06/19/2018 - 12:50pm How can you account for the …

How can you account for the "Michigan Bump" (or I guess now, it's the "Alabama Bump") that recruits get once a big time program/ coach who's an "expert" really goes after a generic 3* kid?

I think everybody knows that final recruiting rankings matter, but the debate that always happens is when in the summer, Michigan gets a commitment from a generic 3* kid who turns into a NFL pick. Often times, the kid ends up a 4* or maybe a high 3* and then people do the analysis and say, see recruiting rankings matter!

06/19/2018 - 12:44pm What's the point of that?…

What's the point of that? MSU isn't going to hire a new President that will turn around and make actual changes and fire their 2 best coaches in school history.

Engler will just be replaced by a lesser known Engler 2.0

06/13/2018 - 12:26pm I don't know, but the MACC…

I don't know, but the MACC program used to be very competitive. I mean accounting itself is super easy, but it used to be graded on a curve and Ross kids are smart/ study hard. I don't think it would be a problem to have a B- average in accounting and still get a good job, it just won't be for the Big 4.

06/01/2018 - 8:00pm So assuming Quinn’s #’s are

So assuming Quinn’s #’s are correct, Beilein is making $1M less and the 3 top assistants are making $75 to $100k less on average compared to other top B1G programs.

Not being an academic, can Wards just rollout the money truck, without some sort of process/ business case? Maybe this is all part of that?

Also, here is some career advice for us all. Even if you love your job, you have nothing to lose (unless you are Doug Marrone) by interviewing for a “better” job. There is no downside.

06/01/2018 - 4:19pm Unless things have changed a

Unless things have changed a lot in ~10 years it used to be that incoming kids would swap with each other informally and sit with their fellow incoming friends/ halls (sometimes, RAs would take the whole hall, at least when we didn't suck).

The only issue in the student section used to be if a group (not singles) of freshmen tried to sneak into the "good" (read: senior) seats.

06/01/2018 - 4:16pm Damn it NBA!

Take Matthews instead and let us keep Beilein!

Arguably the worst thread in MGo history, and I’ve been around since 05. I’ll be here a lot less.

Some competitors with less awful threads (I’ll let the users google):
- “the edge Michigan football”
- GoBlieMochiganWolverine. EROC
- Chatsports Michigan

And I’d add the links on the sideboard.

05/22/2018 - 4:20pm I don't know anything about

I don't know anything about his recruitment, other than Sparty really wanted him. How hard did Michigan pursue?

05/18/2018 - 9:14am Blah, Blah, Blah...

4*, Harbs can't recruit like OSU. Kid isn't even top #250., blah, blah, blah...

I'm clearly joking, but am sadly expecting this to come up.

05/17/2018 - 3:03pm Cuba. It will get more

Cuba. It will get more touristy as time goes by (and you have kids and end up in Cancun).

05/16/2018 - 8:30am Just look at last year's top

Just look at last year's top 200 as of May and then the final 200. You will see a lot of movement and will see that kids who signed with the the big name schools shot up.

Michigan signed 11 3* last cycle, because other big time programs were not fighting for them, since those kids didn't have offer sheets like Turner.

05/16/2018 - 8:05am Every "study" done

Every "study" done correlating rrcruit rankings to success uses the rankings at the end of the signing period (and I think there is an adjustment after that as well). They are not using star rankings 9 months out (before the kid even plays their senior year).

What always happens is under the radar generic 3* guys get a 4th star when blue blood schools seriously pursue them. It's the Michigan, ND, OSU, Bama... bump. If Michigan signs a kid that has offers from Bama, OU, LSU, PSU, ND... he will get a 4th star when all is said and done (if the kid doesn't get a 4th star, then the other schools were not seriously pursuing). If the kid ends up signing with a MAC school, then he will keep the 3*.

Final recruiting rankings generally mean more likelyhood for success, but not the rankings as of 9 months out.

05/16/2018 - 7:38am Did you miss the part where

Did you miss the part where the OP laid out a list of Turner's offers? I know some are uncommittable/ he's a backup plan but that's incredibly impressive. This is either a case where the kid is being dinged because of some numbers at a camp or he will end up a 4*, when all is said and done.

05/10/2018 - 8:50pm Call the school at Michigan

Call the school at Michigan that your wife wants to eventually get a masters from and ask them about admission requirements and transfer credits.

I’d be surprised if they took any/ more than very few transfer credits for a Masters program.

05/10/2018 - 10:39am They helped Michigan in a

They helped Michigan in a couple of ways, but Harbaugh's primary goal was to help kids get exposure to colleges to play football at the next level. However, there are a number of benefits for Harbaugh (and his coaches) and to a lesser extent Michigan:

1) Publicity: Prior to Harbaugh's hire, Michigan was on a major downward trend (Hoke & RR)

2) Networking with HS and smaller college coaches (helps with Harbaugh or his friends hiring up-and-comming coaches

3) Finding diamonds in the rough (for Harbaugh's team or a friend)

4) Goodwill

5) I think he was really hoping to go into teams like Bama's, PSU's... backyard and win over their feeder school coaches to at least give Michigan a chance.

05/10/2018 - 9:06am It’s early, but as of now

It’s early, but as of now Michigan’s 2019 recruiting class is ranked... horribly at 8 (while OSU is #9).

OP, Why do you believe recruiting suffered?

What about renewals? Without knowing that, can’t the simple explanation be that those who want tickets have them?

Also,
2017: Michigan sucks because they make you donate so much for tickets.
2018: LOL, nobody wants to see them anyway.

05/08/2018 - 1:22pm He didn't play much football,

He didn't play much football, so why not play school?

05/06/2018 - 6:15pm The question/ analysis that

The question/ analysis that needs to be done is if Michigan is getting better players (overall or for their system) as compared to the in-state kids going to MSU.

05/03/2018 - 11:47am With the rest of the talent

With the rest of the talent on Offense (Shea, talented WRs, good RBs, depth at TE) we should be able to put up a lot of points with just an average OL.

It looks more and more likre Brian's assessment that the switch to Frey really confused the young OL players and magnified average QB play and poor WR play.
