05/03/2016 - 12:12pm Got mine too!

Glad to be a season ticket holder again for the first time since being a student 10 years ago; excited to make the trip from Chicago a few times this year and pass off other tickets to deserving M fans the weeks we can't make it!

05/26/2015 - 2:43pm All about context?

Since Hibbitts has been reported by everyone to be a Preferred Walk-on, seems like this scenario is "You're a walk-on and may have the opportunity for a scholarship any year that one is left over from the scholarship players.  This year it's very likely we will have one for you."

The negative way would be "You're a scholarship player!" then two years later... "No you're not any more."

05/26/2015 - 1:07pm Hibbitts comment vindication!

I had the same thought about him when he committed, and now I feel smart. Yay me!

05/12/2015 - 5:16pm Think they kinda maybe offered Hibbitts a 1-yr scholarship?

Would be a reason not to have Max back; they'll give the scholarship to a walk-on, right? Maybe they offered it to Hibbitts for a year.

02/04/2015 - 2:32pm Cool story bro

I was at a high school district playoff game he was pitching his senior year.  Brighton was playing the team that knocked them out of the playoffs in football a few months earlier (Walled Lk Western I think).  Henson struck out the first 20 batters, the last dude bunted and he threw him out at first for the perfect game.  It was ridiculous.

01/04/2015 - 5:41pm Reggie Cleveland All-Star candidate?

Seems like it to me, whatcha think?

12/29/2014 - 4:36pm I like the creativity graph!

Really an interesting (and new to me) way to think about an individual's contributions.

Might be helpful to label the quadrants (e.g., top right = creates for teammates and himself; bottom left = doesn't assist but needs assists).

Also, I'm curious how you arrived at the scale? Would it be possible to make the middle (assist rate of 20, percent of FGs assisted) the national median?  Maybe you already did that or something similar...

06/27/2014 - 2:28pm Trunk Club

Custom suit. Pretty sweet.

06/05/2014 - 9:47am Player to be named later?

Was that a part of the Fargas transfer?

04/14/2014 - 12:46pm Wisely

There's a start-up called Wisely in Ann Arbor that is a super-interesting iphone/android app. The app uses payment data (credit/debit cards) to provide useful info about businesses to consumers.  For example, the app tells you how popular the place is (how many transactions), how loyal the customers are (how many repeat transactions), how much most people spend, etc.

It's sorta like Yelp except a better source of truth because it's data driven with actual payment info, so not weighed down by random anecdotes or just made-up reviews.

Highly recommend.

03/05/2014 - 9:37pm Daniel Horton

My freshman year (2002-03), team started 0-6 before a 13 game win streak including the best comeback I've ever seen in a game against the Badgers. Maize Rage was pretty sparse then but proud to say I was in it!

02/27/2014 - 2:50pm Holy Cross

Also a non-bad RPI effect (RPI 134 and Kenpom 147).  These are the types of teams I wish we'd schedule non-conference - bad enough to beat by 22 but good enough to have a decent W/L and challenge for a conference title (projected 13-5 in Patriot League, 1 game back from 1st)

01/20/2014 - 12:18pm WTKA posts podcasts

12/06/2013 - 12:48pm Committed 2/4/10!

per 24/7 - almost 4 years ago!

12/04/2013 - 5:43pm Learning curve

One of the major differences between last year and this year is that last year we were close to our ceiling right outta the gate.  This year with a freshman PG and former role players stepping into key roles (or trying to?) there should be a lot more improvement over the course of the year.  I think. and hope.

06/21/2013 - 4:16pm I concur

We've gone to Mullett Lake near Cheboygan for the past 15 years or so and it's fantastic up there

06/21/2013 - 4:15pm Also heading to London...

haven't been so don't really have an answer for you... but I'm going to London in September and am hoping to go to a Premier League game.

Any recommendations on which London area team would be the best to see? Looks like Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham, and Crystal Palace are home that weekend.  I'm a casual soccer fan so I don't have a dog in the fight, mostly interested in experiencing a cool atmosphere...

Thanks!

05/28/2013 - 1:20pm I had the same question re: Bain

I first think of Bain & Co, he works at Bain Capital.  Either way, darn impressive.

05/24/2013 - 3:00pm New DE?

He's going to need to pack on about 100 lbs before challenging for playing time...

05/12/2013 - 7:45pm Are the Thome's related to Jim Thome?

Mostly a shot in the dark, but I know he spend lots of years in Cleveland... just curious?

05/09/2013 - 7:08pm No gerund jokes?

In the post? I'm surprised. I think Channing needs a gerund related nickname.

05/03/2013 - 4:17pm Glyph - App that tells you what's best for you based on habits

There's a Detroit-based (soon to be Ann Arbor-based) startup that built an app and website that peruses your spending history and tells you what card would be best for you.

Beyond that, every time you're about to make a payment, it will tell you which of your pre-entered credit cards will maximize your rewards.

Disclosure... a good friend is one of the co-founders. But seriously, I highly recommend, and so have Fortune, Tech Crunch, etc.

04/05/2013 - 4:32pm Return to center...

that's a great line.  But let's hope we don't read it next week.

02/17/2013 - 5:10pm 3 year starter CB

In the late 90s if memory serves. He's from and coaches at Bolingbrook IL. 35-40 ish miles outside chicago.

02/12/2013 - 11:10pm Hardaway

I seem to remember a game... last week that he carried against a pretty good team...

02/12/2013 - 11:09pm I second

Been a rough week and a half

02/12/2013 - 11:07pm Better days ahead

Great thing about basketball is that you get to play em twice

02/06/2013 - 3:32pm Any refs out there? - when a shot goes up...

Re: the Ravenel goaltend... when a shot goes up, what do the refs look at?  I think the priority is to watch what's going on under the basket rather than actually watching the ball and the hoop.

That being said, there are 3 of them in college, is one of them (maybe the one in the backcourt?) supposed to watch the hoop while the other two focus on contact between players?

01/29/2013 - 12:50pm Opponent's Center?

This is really cool, great work.

I wonder if Morgan is more frequently going up against an opponent's top center while McGary might be playing against a backup more often.  Could be a part of the difference - i.e., Morgan is 'less better' than the top center and McGary is 'more better' than the backups?

01/18/2013 - 2:33pm What if Denard knew?

WHAT IF DENARD THREW ALL THOSE INTERCEPTIONS TO MAKE SURE MANTI BECAME EXTRA FAMOUS BECAUSE HE KNEW THE TRUTH AND WANTED IT TO BE EXPOSED

01/11/2013 - 8:24pm Love these posts

Keep em coming!

I know little about football Xs and Os and learn a ton from this blog/comments. I know more about hoops and love the opportunity to chime in a little here!

01/11/2013 - 4:47pm Setting up the screen

Part of the reason #15 (guarding Burke) fights over the screen well is that Burks didn't do enough to set it up.  In a perfect world, Burke & McGary should rub shoulders when Burke passes the screen, not allowing any room for the defender to fight through.  It's basically impossible to get this to happen, but there are a few feet between Burke & McGary when Burke goes around the screen.  If Burke takes another dribble toward the hoop before he dribbles left around the screen, #15 will have a harder time fighting over McGary.

Setting up the screen falls more to Burke than the screener because the screener can't be moving as long (or else it's a foul).  So the dribbler needs to be work toward the hoop (in this case) before taking a sharp angle past the shoulder of the screener to optimize the chances for the dribbler to get a shot off.

That being said, Burke getting a shot off is only one option - on this play, Burke seems to be thinking #1 look for Stauskas's cut and #2 wait for the re-screen.

Just my two cents, I love how the offense has many layers and Burke et al work through them and find great shots.

12/22/2012 - 12:13pm Can we coin a new term...

09/18/2012 - 7:10pm The Diag - Gamewatch in Chicago

Anyone watched a game there? I just moved to the neighborhood and am planning on checking it out Saturday. Good place? Advice on how early to get there? Thanks.

06/08/2012 - 2:07pm At this point their should just be a standing warrant...

02/04/2012 - 2:58pm Other hotbeds?

I don't know much about HS softball, but am curious what the other two hotbeds of softball talent are (with SoCal being one).

Anyone know?

02/03/2012 - 10:58am Darboh, Chesson & Braden

Darboh and Chesson because of their incredible stories.

Braden because he was first (I think?)

01/11/2012 - 10:58am U-M vs CMU 2 games prior to that...

that was my freshman year, when I was one of what seemed like 12 season-ticket holders.  The low point to me was the game vs Central Mich that made us 0-5.  Chris Kaman had 30 pts and 21 rbs and their PF had 28 and 9.

That freshman class (Horton, Brown, Abram, Hunter) may never have quite met expectations but I think really moved the program along from a super low point...

10/24/2011 - 11:32am Good for EMU - Bowl-watch?

How crazy would that be if EMU makes a bowl??  Still work to do, but they play Buffalo and Kent St who each have 6 losses...
