Could any of this just be

Could any of this just be part of the recruiting game...? Based on the MSU guys offered they seem pretty solid, but when you think about it we are recruiting a lot of the same 2014 kids. By offering a couple guys you know you are not Likly to get you may build bridges with coaches and now MSU staff may need to spend more time doubling back on recruiting their own guys which means less focus they can place on the 2014 head to heads...And that may be all achieved by sending out offers you know you won't be taken up on...

Or maybe they really do want these kids, just a thought that there may be some other motivations with some offers.

Magnus....or anyone

Magnus....or anyone else...Just a point of clarification…. Mainly for my own understanding… someone tell me where I am wrong..

But I don’t think the policy is based on letting people off the hook or punishing

My understanding of the policy was that if recruits took visits they were no longer considered committed to Michigan and vs. versa…. This would result in Michigan recruiting to fill their spot, and COULD result in that position being filled by someone else.

If Michigan searches and doesn’t find a suitable replacement, I don’t see what in the policy, as I understood it, from Michigan prevent accepting his committee again, If both parties look around and choose to recommit to each other; that is to say based on the recruting policy as i understand it.

I understand why you don’t want wondering eyes, and I always thought that there could be a potential recommitment based on the policy…. Obviously the dynamic in each situation will be unique, and bridges may have ben burned.... i just dont think the recruiting policy as described by Hoke would prohiabite it....trust is a fickle thing....and  i understand if its gone to the coaches its gone, but i think that is the reason we wont see him back, not the recruiting policy.

342 rushing yards on the day for Michigan.

Love it!!

Love it!!

I think it has a better ring

I think it has a better ring if you take the 'AL' out of the shirt so its just  gorgeous borges.

**Edit -  beaten to the punch on the suggestion, but awesome none the less.

38-17. and for good measure

38-17. and for good measure Pursa doesnt make it through the game.

low total yardage becuase NW doesnt move the ball

Not trying the thread jack,

Not trying the thread jack, but on the other michigan recruit front -  I believe Banner and Payton were scheduled to take official visits to Oklahoma, anyone hear anything as to how those visits went?

i also agree, defense wins

i also agree, defense wins championships; however, you have to scores points to win - otherwise the best you can hope for is the longest game in history that ends in a 0-0 tie after everyone goes home.

Denard cant be the quarterback forever.... he will eventually graduate.... unless he uses his dilithium power to turn back time like superman did.

I agree with everything you

I agree with everything you said, however; barring an absolute disater Hoke will not be fired in less than three years. It would be an unlikely scenerio that would result in him firing his brother quickly.

I think this is a unique situation - one  that would provide some security for a DB position coach.  No matter the product after the first year, we should see improvment (maybe jjust becuase of player development / maturing).  However, Hoke will get at least three years at head coach.... if he can convince his brother to come over, i have a hard time believing that he would quickly get the axe, just my opninion.

Your example is well taken,

Your example is well taken, but a brand new staff is likley going to have at least three years of job security. Position coaches will almost certainly be garenteed more than one year, becuase they can blame the old staff for their current deficencies.

They are recruiting like 300

They are recruiting like 300 DBs becuase G, Mattison is a disciple  of Mo and Carr, once Michigan gets a decent lead, time for the prevent. While in the past this drove me crazy, i have come to realize they won a shit ton of games that way.

Maybe with denard and co. on offence they plan to being ahead alot, thus running alot of prevent with 5 or 6 dbs at a time, and they want enough to rotate them and keep them fresh.

I really hope we land this

I really hope we land this kid beucase i think he could be really good.  But hopefully the guys from last year make some improvments so he doesnt have to play right away and just get tossed into the fray (that didnt work well last year).  Hopefully he can come into a d-fence with a little more depth and stability where he can learn and develope (and make his mistakes on the practice field) as so we dont suffer through them on saterdays.

I was geeked about Cullen last year, hoping he could come in and make an immediate impact.... However as we learned there is a little talent and speed difference between HS and college (i am still bullish on CC - just wish he and the other two Frosh CBs werent thrown to the wolves)

I cant read the tweet

I cant read the tweet (protected). However, i think it has to be a good sign that the backdrop is the Michigan Block M

For better or worse, it is

For better or worse, it is probably safe to assume the days of recruiting 8 million tiny slot ninjas has likley come to an end.

Maybe more importantly how does he feel about dreads?

His statment might be partial truth to it

This maybe be true due to him telling partial truths....  see the possible examples below:

DB: Hello JH, You interestest in coaching at Michigan?

JH: Nay, i am staying in Cali.

DB: How about the weather out here, gotta go!

DB: Whats up Mad hatter, you want to be the next coach at michigan?

LM: I dont think so.

DB: Did you really do Moe's wife?

There is the distint possibility he gauged wheather eah would take the job, and didnt officially offer the job.... knowing that they would not acept, thus he can claim Hoke was the only one offered.  Not lying but not the full truth either.

Tom, sorry for the confusion

Tom, sorry for the confusion about you reporting the prior Dee news rather than just passing along the Orlando Sentinel's report.  Any thoughts on the most recent rumor mongering from the Alabama site?

I didnt participate in the

I didnt participate in the last melt down.... so i fill i can add at least 10 freakout posts in this thread!

I hope Tom is right, but if

I hope Tom is right, but if you click the link within the Alabama forum, Dee's school does list him as a verbal to Bama.... Hopefully this is incorrect, or was it was drafted during the brief but terrifying decommit / recommit time frame - when the popular sentiment was that he was going to Bama….. However, withFlorida’s coaching situation (and ours) and Ha-Ha in his ear you never know….

Hopefully the Bama fans are just using the internets for rumor mongering and don’t have inside information.

Michgan made money, really?

This seems to make sense, look at the tradition.  Did i buy less tickets or Michigan junk because they had a couple losing seasons.... no, was i disappointed... sure.   As long as the ship can be fully 'righted' all will be will.  Considering what they make from season tickets, the BTN, and merchandising, i would find it hard to believe that, the juggernaut that is Michigan football would lose money.

Hope he stays blue through all this

The very selfish part of me hope that he stays with Michigan through this very though part of his life.  Certainly with the death of his father, additional family obligations may come up which result in him needing to stay closer to home.  I have to say i am more excited by him than any other recruit we have committed, and that is saying a lot considering,  i think dee will be awesome, in this system; and beyer will be like Roh 2.0.

Despite my comments above and desperately wanting a savvy d back to come to Michigan hopefully he does right by his family, can take care of business and still come to ann arbor.

Like so many others have echoed, may our thoughts and preys go out to him and his family.

its good to see so many good

its good to see so many good defensive players on the list, we need to start actaully landing them.  I remember this time last year we were starting to talk about Depriest (now committed to Alabama).  We need to start landing these top defensive prosects.

Fully agreed, i have a BSBA

Fully agreed, i have a BSBA from a MAC school, and enjoyed the hell out the experience.  It didnt reduced my love for michigan.  Go to school and make the best of yourself, they also have masters programs if  you dont get in the first time around.

Can we have like 4 do

Can we have like 4 do overs?!?!?!  We could make that so much less painful.

Rable Rable Rable..... bench

Rable Rable Rable..... bench him after one bad game!! every player has an off game now and then.  Should OSU have benches pryor at Illinious should Alabama have benched McElroy? our problem is that bad offensive performance = a loss due to our defenses inability to stop anyone.

Saw it, and agree with # 1& 2

Saw it, and agree with # 1& 2 but not 3.  How is that any less fundamental to building a team today than it has been in the past.  In fact one could argue, that many of our defensive issues are caused by players that chose not to observe #3. Kelvin could cower when things get down and transfer or he could stand his ground and defend the program.

I still believe in the ‘those that stay’ statement even though I may be a minority.

Of course he is going to

Of course he is going to support the program, he is a player currently playing for us.  Can you imagine if he didnt.  Thats being part of THE TEAM.

Those who stay will become Champions!

Yeah, this is not so much a

Yeah, this is not so much a match-up i am looking forward too.  Lewan has all the potential in the world, but is young and inexperienced and will be going up against one of the absolute best.  I am fearful of him getting beat if we drop into a straight dropback passing mode.  However, i supppose thats how you get better, by playing against the best.

An interesting read, nice

An interesting read, nice post.  Hopefully after saterday, they will need to RE build their D line, after they are ground into the turf by the o line, and denard rushes for 200 on them.

Thanks for the response that

Thanks for the response that actually answers the question and ends the rest of us from speculating.

My weekend was brightened up

My weekend was brightened up ever so slightly by the losses of USC and Florida, but not by much.

Maybe they can be convinced

Maybe they can be convinced by x ray evidence.  A broken leg is a clear cut injury, unlike something like a sever concussion.  I am not downplaying the seriousness of something like a concussion but how do you determine how long someone is out, or when it is safe to play again… it gets a little vague.  With a broken bone it’s a little different.

Especially when it occurs in

Especially when it occurs in just the 2nd game of the season

Your level of optimism is

Your level of optimism is legendary, I prey you are right.

Its nice to see players that

Its nice to see players that have success, in part because of their time at Michigan, giving back to a great cause. I don’t know if this kind of thing is as prevalent at other schools, but is always nice to hear about people giving back.

I have to agree, the response

I have to agree, the response post Sparty loss on Saturday was taken fairly well.  But lets not pat ourselves on the back to much, remember the post Illinois fallout from last year anyone?

Lets just hope we never find ourselves in that position again.  Denard please resume 200/200 (rushing/ passing) performances again ASAP.

Good to hear about a good

Good to hear about a good solid smart kid, at a real position of need.  Gotta love the recruits that you know once they are committed they are:

1. Really committed; and

2. Are going to Qualify

Agreed, i think that we could

Agreed, i think that we could really use him on the hardwood this year.  Our team is going to be young and could have used his leadership, not to mention his contribution on the score board.

Over the last several years,

Over the last several years, we have lost some football recruits to UNC,  and i have always wondered what the hell?!?!  This isnt basketball people, and this was occuring as their record wasnt so great either.  Now, if some of these  kids eleceted to not go to UNC there is no certainty they would have picked michigan, but it makes you wonder how they landed so much talent, in such a short period of time, after not being good for some time.  Makes you wonder if the kids going their were aware of the benefits they could receive.

I am pretty sure that is

I am pretty sure that is correct, i dont think the BSC standings are computed or released until week 8.  i think the initial poster is refferencing what one person's opinion of the computer would say if it was ranking as of today

This is real bad news, not so

This is real bad news, not so much just because he is a good wide out, but because of his blocking skills.  My own personal opinion why denard had a tough time getting things going on the ground was due to subpar blocking by the wide outs (compared to what they have done so far this year) we will see if the UFR agrees with that.  Now losing Odoms, our best blocking wide out, in my opinion, this problem may be exacerbated.  Let’s hope the wide outs can stay on the Iowa corners and safety's for the few seconds it takes for denard to blow by them.

I listened to part of the

I listened to part of the press conference, and like many have mentioned it was him just fielding some softball questions, but what do you want him to say after he just lost (decisively) to Sparty again.  While i think Sparty is much better than most have given them credit for, he then has to host Iowa next week, another physical big ten team with a game managing offensive.   There are a lot of similarities between State and Iowa, and the team will be in for another good test.   I thought going in that we had a good chance of losing one of the two games, just because they were against physical teams that rich rod has had zero success with.  As long as we get Denard back on track, all will be well.  Its just unfortunate that we have to follow the Sparty lose against another very good and very experienced team.

The computer predictions are

The computer predictions are interesting, i cant believe that we only have a 1% better chance of beeting Purdue than Wisconsin.  That simply cant be right.

I think state is a better team than most gave them credit for going into last week.  And we could have one that game minus all the mistakes, further proof we can hang with anyone. but to win thise games we have have to play mistake free football on the offensive side of the ball, becuase the offense gets little assistance from the D.

He had one bad game... he

He had one bad game... he wont be held in check like we was the last game on a regular basis.  Plus unlike so many of the other offensive hieman contenders he doesnt have a defense that will bail him out if he makes a bad play.

Its good to see so many

Its good to see so many highly rated defensive players left on the board that we have a realistic chance with.  If we can just get the D back to playing at an 'average level' while denard is still on campus look out.

Trade for Obi now

Can we trade him for Obi right now? he can come get an early jump on college and Obi can go finish out his high school career and maybe actaully make a few plays, everyone wins!

its hard to imagine a worse

its hard to imagine a worse middle linebacker than obi, but i guess it is possible that a middle linebacker could make zero tackles, rather than 2 every game right?  I just cant imagine that no one has seriously challenged him for playing time.  What about Jake Ryan, sure he is a small freshmen MLB, but what do we have to lose by playing him, we get no production from the MLB spot.

now if only USC can find a

now if only USC can find a away to lose the rest of their games.

If your me, will will spend

If your me, will will spend this week trying not to murder your wife that has a masters from MSU, and will be chanting go state all week.  Nevermind that she doesnt know anything about football or care about state winning except win it comes at the expense of Michigan.
