So, you do virtue signalling, too? You're well-rounded.
Also, this should "asplode" anyone's ironometer: "People will defend anything they have a personal attachment to."
|06/14/2018 - 8:36am||Your data on 3-star…||
Your data on 3-star prospects (Samuelson, Runyan, and Ulizio) is very limited. Ulizio is the only one that can be counted against the current staff.
I think it's too early to conclude anything about Spanellis. Early returns are at least decent. The '17 guys haven't even seen the field.
|06/13/2018 - 2:14pm||Unless they run out of money…||
Unless they run out of money for their bagmen (or whatever they're called in the ACC) they should be fine.
|06/10/2018 - 12:27pm||OP: I wouldn't sacrifice any…||OP: I wouldn't sacrifice any priceless fun of the you'll-only-be-18-once variety, but if you can spare some time, sure. It may mean that you you'll be able to do "something else" (like, say, attend a concert at the music school) some night when you're at UMich.|

I was going to write "Oh, dear. Someone will need to hold Maizenbluey." Too late, obviously, as Bluey is the OP.
|06/04/2018 - 11:14am||"height with shoes"||
Matt D: You seem pretty sharp. Is your line of work filled with people who can't do math at a 3rd-grade level? (I don't know why else we'd see two heights for every player.)
|06/02/2018 - 10:41am||MUST GET||
"The coaches need to show that they can close the deal on an in-State kid at a position of high need."
DPJ says hi. Ambry, too. Should I list others?
|06/01/2018 - 1:46pm||BG||
No kidding. I think he was much better than, say, Steele (a very good player who had an NFL career).
|05/31/2018 - 8:41pm||1992||
I think they beat Kansas and UNC (along with Kentucky, the Final Four teams that year) in consecutive games in Hawaii.
Should've won the championship that year ... sigh.
|05/31/2018 - 8:46am||-2||
No offense, but I find fault with your reasoning.
I doubt that UMich ever intentionally "went away from Ohio." It doesn't take a genius to acknowledge the strong recruiting pull of Tressel and Meyer. Here's the important question: In the years where there weren't many Ohio players in the class, did the ones from other states (including Michigan) perform well? You seem to think there's something special about Ohio players. Who cares where they live?
Also, MSU got strong for a variety of reasons. They're elite (like it or not) at some combination of player development and identification of talent at the HS level. On this point, you seem to think that 3-star Ohioans specifically are special *and* that Michigan could've tipped the scales in the rivalry if only they'd taken *those* players instead of (say) someone from Wisconsin / Indiana. It's implied that "keeping them away from MSU" would've kept Sparty from unearthing talent in some other geographic area.
|05/31/2018 - 6:19am||prediction||
Same as OP (9-3) but losing to (puke) Sparty instead of Wisconsin .....
|05/28/2018 - 10:40am||many of the same players||
Many of the same players?! For starters, Florida's entire D-line was drafted that year. I don't think it's reasonable to compare the two teams.
|05/28/2018 - 9:47am||2006||
"And we WOULD have beaten Florida."
Wow. I think it's much more likely that Florida would've beaten us as badly as they beat OSU.
As usual, I can't believe the amount of tears that are shed for the 2006 team. It had significant holes on defense and a slightly better-than-average offensive line. No way was it on a national-championship level.
|05/28/2018 - 9:43am||1993||
Exactly. Pass the ball to Rose, who finds (I guess) Pelinka free in the corner for a game-winning three. Any number of other scenarios (three-point play by Howard) would've been find.
Also, I couldn't stand how much the writers were in love with Dean Smith.
|05/28/2018 - 8:37am||2002||
Excellent choice IMO.
|05/27/2018 - 7:27am||story||
Farnn, make sure you read phil610's post carefully. /s
For all: This post is a great example of what happens when someone gets their news (and views) wholly from TV.
For the record, I'd still pick Jordan over James.
|05/23/2018 - 10:43pm||political ads||
Are they still featuring "concerned woman" and "wise grandpa?"
|05/23/2018 - 12:36pm||rankings||
Brace your collective selves for lots of whining about how Harbaugh has failed to *lock down the state*.
|05/21/2018 - 6:29pm||new arena||
I saw them play (and get crushed by) Villanova this year. The new arena is nice and way more city-accessible than Rosemont.
|05/21/2018 - 6:11am||Swenson||
Nice piece, EoT. I didn't get this, though:
"... staff’s disastrous decision to pass on Eric Swensen ..."
Disastrous? Sure, he'd at least be another guy to throw out there at tackle. But .....
Everyone knows it's hard to project with O-line types, but it's far from clear that Erik Swenson is going to be a star (or even a starter) at Oklahoma. According to this, he is running with the second team going into his redshirt sophomore year:
I think I'm interpreting it correctly. They mention another guy as the starting left tackle.
|05/20/2018 - 6:10pm||dye, skin||
If you have the (young-looking) skin for it, I think dye jobs are OK. If everyone can tell, though (as is the case with Les), I think it's worse than grey/white.
Myself? I prefer to let nature take its course. (Yes, avatar checks out.)
|05/19/2018 - 8:04pm||don't think so||
I've never been a fan of the "Coach _____ doesn't understand the importance of _____ rivalry" crowd (or some variant, like the ones that talk about emphasis). I'm sorry to see Woodson in that group of people.
|05/17/2018 - 8:31pm||for the unpopular opinion thread||
I cringe every time I hear the "The Team, The Team, The Team" clip in the stadium. I think it's been overplayed.
|05/10/2018 - 2:29pm||Josh||
I like (not really) how the Metellus drop has been blown out of proportion. Michigan could've gone three-and-out right after that. We'll never know.
|05/10/2018 - 2:26pm||line||
I know. There's this crazy idea (where all of the Late Lloyd era o-linemen were about as good as Jake Long) that the offensive line was great during the Andy Moeller years.
|05/10/2018 - 11:50am||name||
Funny. I know him as The Idiot.
I've given Mr. Rogers way more downvotes than upvotes (and there have been a few of those) on this site.
|05/10/2018 - 11:38am||baby||
I see that a popular LeBron narrative has worked its magic on you. :)
Player comparison? Too apples-and-oranges for my taste. I'd take Jordan, though.
|05/08/2018 - 10:26pm||decision point||
Is there anything interesting (restaurants / culture / sports) in the town? If so, go see it.
If not, stay inside and read or watch something you have queued up on Netflix / whatever.
If the town is boring there's no point in trying too hard to find something interesting.
|05/06/2018 - 10:04pm||Chicago||
I'm in a similar urban environment and I have a subset of your doomsday set-up. Know of any good online resources for that type of thing (city survivalism)?
|05/06/2018 - 7:01pm||RichRod||
It's a funny thing to be defending the disgraced RichRod, but the OP wrote: "... UM hasn't struggled this much in-state since the Rich Rod tenure."
RichRod got good players from Michigan every year. (Put '08 aside, as it was a hybrid Carr/RichRod class).
'09: Will Campbell, Cam Gordon (Sparty did very well in state that year, but Michigan got arguably better players outside the state.)
'10: Devin Gardner (This was another good year by Sparty, but at least two of their Top Ten state recruits -- Joe Boisture and Nick Hill -- didn't amount to much in the end.)
'11: Brennen Beyer (Not an impact player ultimately, but a Top Ten recruit that year along with Justice Hayes and Delonte Hollowell ... Hoke would later get Raymon Taylor.) Sparty got only three that year.
|05/06/2018 - 5:31pm||Ball Four||
I'll second (or third) "Ball Four."
It will seem quaintly dated, but I understand it was a bombshell when it was released.
You'll get only Jim Bouton's views on everything, of course, but I often found myself taking his side.
|05/06/2018 - 9:46am||team sport||
You know it's not five LeBrons vs. five Jordans, right?
You know it's a team sport, right?
You know that the supporting cast matters ... right?
|05/05/2018 - 9:14am||'roids||
They're bad, yes.
Remember that the pitchers were taking them, too.
|05/04/2018 - 8:39pm||Gladwell||
I've heard far worse ideas, but I can't take Gladwell seriously. He's a hack who writes for Sparty-level people (or worse).
|05/04/2018 - 12:28pm||Duke||
Laettner made the shot ... then we all had to watch a #$&@ing replay of it for the next twenty-some years because the NCAA's focus groups apparently loved it.
|05/03/2018 - 1:19pm||hypocrisy||
You know the National Football League has long been preparing to go tobacco (industry) in a few years when they'll be at risk of being sued out of existence.
They probably had a couple of in-house actuary monkeys give them a frightening number on Hurst. Then, they used nods and winks to get the info to their sundry meat puppets for propagation.
|05/03/2018 - 6:27am||WSU||
Last I knew (quite some time ago) WSU had a decent reputation as a med school (mid-range, at least, and not a bad option for Michigan residents ... much better than MSU, anyway).
Wasn't DMC found to be re-using surgical instruments without following proper sterilization procedures, etc.? It sounded bad.
|05/02/2018 - 11:24am||south||
As long as an enemy tribe is involved, southerners will be all for it. Throw in some firearms and you've got a winner for sure.
|05/01/2018 - 11:17am||UTL||
Fair enough. The office is a less hostile environment than the stadium.
I was at both UTL games and one ND game in the Lloyd era. Again, I thought their fans were a good bunch in the aggregate. I'm sure I'd see worse in South Bend, just as Michigan's townie crew is worse than its "travel team."
|04/30/2018 - 10:26pm||ND||
I've noted this here before and it's odd.
ND is my least favorite football school. Most fans ND fans I meet, though (socially / professionally / both) are very nice people. They remind me of the refined Michigan fans.
For some reason I never meet the bad ND fans. I'm sure they exist.

|04/26/2018 - 3:03pm||cheatin'||
That's my main complaint with the OP. Coaching ability (something Coach K clearly has) aside, Beilein shouldn't be classed with cheaters (K, Self, Calipari, et al.).
|04/25/2018 - 3:08pm||comparison||
It's darkly flattering that their AD put UM on the same plane with OSU.
|04/21/2018 - 5:24pm||echoes||
If all goes well (for UM's ranking), it will be a repeat of 2006, when UM whupped an overrated team and spent the season way up in the polls. Of course reality intruded at the end of the season, but if they'd been truly elite they would've been well-positioned. (Better than being underrated and too far down in the polls ...)
|04/21/2018 - 2:48pm||offensive||
Any MGoBlog poster who says the offensive line has sucked "since Lloyd left" needs to read this until they know it cold:
|04/20/2018 - 10:45pm||!=||
You know that Warren never played a down in the NFL and that Morris played in the NBA for parts of four separate seasons and has career earnings north of $3M, right? They don't belong in the same sentence.
