I took EECS 280 and Math 203 at the same time fall semester 1997. I already had lots of programming experience so really enjoyed EECS 280 and didn't find it especially difficult. Discrete math, on the other hand... I ended up taking again in spring 1998!
In the last podcast Brian said that in contrast to Mattison, Borges never has and never will admit fault when a game goes poorly. I was pleased to see Brian proved ever-so-slightly wrong in this press conference.
I'm ashamed to admit that I know this, but there was an episode years ago where in the locker room you could clearly see a sign that said "Those who stay will be champions." There's definitely a Michigan fan or two on the crew.
After 15 years in southeast MI (including 4 in Ann Arbor, woo!) I've spent the last 6 years living in Champaign. I make the trip back to the Detroit suburbs a couple times a year. The 94-80-57 route is much faster unless you'll hit Chicago at rush hour. Then they're about equal. There's exactly one toll stop, which will set you back a whopping $0.80, I think. Go that way. Really.
in which Not A Blue Fan lectured us on the virtues of having a Real AD as opposed to a pizza salesmen. It's safe to conclude at this point that the pizza salesman handled the NCAA better, right?
Loved that game. Thought it was pretty selfless of Hart to risk his non-fumbler rep, deliberately coughing it up a couple times to keep it close and exciting. Always looking out for the fans, that kid. ;)
I don't know about that. I live in Champaign. I don't know anybody who would say they "like" him.
There does seem to be a consensus that he's the best recruiting Illinois has had, possibly ever, but that he's a terrible game coach. Hence the new coordinators this year, and the improvement.
I didn't particularly care about the thread itself. I just wanted to point out the strangeness of a moderator deleting a thread that Brian saw fit to front-page.
But I now see it was actually deleted because it was a repeat. So never mind. :)
I had a terrible fake taken away there while trying to impress two girls from Markley. I paid $60 for it, and it never worked. What an idiot I was. Anyway, I was horrified and never went back to see if I'd made the wall of shame.
Indeed. Let's not forget we were -4 in turnover margin. The fact that we never went down by more than a score, despite that, means the defense played way beyond expectations. Those two RB wheel routes were painful, but beyond those, at least there was a defender in position most of the time. Unlike last week.
An average defense next year is like the best case scenario. I'd be friggin ecstatic if we pulled that off. If we can field an average B10 defense in 2012, for Denard's senior year, it could be a special year.
Excellent, excellent analogy. I've been an ardent defender, but I'm now out of the Rodriguez camp. This far into year three, and we still can't make a crappy B10 team look like a crappy B10 team? It's just not going to get better. I expect we'll get shredded again next week, win or lose a tossup against another terrible team in Purdue, depending on who has the ball last, then lose out. Brandon's going way out on a limb if he keeps Rodriguez after that.
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I'm ashamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
You're a little late
I'm already torn.
What I don't get is the blitzing of Kovacs off the corner. Blitzing the weak side is what gives Iowa the numbers stalemate as Kovacs is toast anytime he's challenged by a blocker of any sort. The weak side blitz works when they actually run to the strong size as Kovacs is in unblocked and makes one of those diving ankle grabbers on the TB.
This is just a wild guess, but probably when Gerg dialed up the blitz, he didn't actually know what play Iowa had called.
I haven't read this yet, but the title makes me think only one thing: rejoicing in the loss of our chief rival more than we care about our own wins is a serious Spartyism. Let's not.
I think the the people who hang out here during the offseason are hardcore fans who are more knowledgeable about football and the state of the roster. When the season starts, there's an influx of more casual fans who mostly just know We Are Michigan. They don't know that on paper, 8-4 would be a good regular season finish for this team. Those people become the huge majority of posters during the season. So you get the meltdown we see after every loss. It's not that people forget the realistic preseason expectations, it's that there's a huge group of people who didn't have reasonable preseason expectations showing up.

In the immortal words of Rod Tidwell:
You are hanging on by a very thin thread, my man. And I dig that about you!!

Bagging on Sparty when we haven't beat them in 4 years is weak.
Contrived bagging on Sparty, like this, is even worse.

If the student section doesn't do a chant involving the name Tom when they come to town next year, I'm going to be super disappointed.
You've spoiled us with regularly scheduled podcasts this season. Now I can't go a week without a fix!
I couldn't agree more. We FINALLY made a bad B1G team look bad, as opposed to narrowly winning on the game's last drive. Or, you know, losing.
If I meet a genie and he gives me three wishes, I'm totally using one to get mgoblog off Drupal.
The general feed and direct download links are broken. Real versions:

I bet their AD's been calling three times a week since 2007. Brandon finally caved.
Oh my Omameh!
I couldn't help but remember this post

Somebody from Manhasset. F**k Garden City!
(I kid. I didn't actually downvote it.)
It's a little cheesy and stupid.
But it's less cheesy and stupid than, say, a stuffed animal being rubbed on your face after a big defensive play.
No suprise, really. I mean, the poor guy didn't even get his week to look like an All-American against our defense.
I guess on the plus side, despite our fantastic flameout, we'd go out as the winningest program of all time.

The left hand has apparently deleted the Brady Ugg Boots post.
There is apparently some disagreement about what constitutes a quality board post.
Wasn't Desmond beating the bare cupboard drum pretty hard in 2008? I really don't remember him being clearly outside the RR camp from the beginning.
You're looking for complexity and rationality where none is intended.
It's just saying he's a douche.

I won't be making room on the bandwagon for these people the next few years.

That's uncanny. That's EXACTLY what I said.
If he's more loyal to his friends than to Michigan Football, then buh-bye.
The thermometer is cool. I'd add another notch near the top:
"One more Vincent Smith carry between the tackles on 3rd and short."
Let's not forget the screens. Those were apparently still really surprising, the 8th or 9th time they dialed one up.
