I think the fact that Michigan won, despite the horrendous play on defense can't be overlooked. I'm hard pressed to believe that looking back on the season, the IU game wont be the worst game the defense played.
Ohio State wont be nearly as run heavy and I fully expect the D to get at least one turnover. Peppers usually makes one or two impact plays on D and I didn't see that either (example of that IU Freshman catching that first down in the second half while Peppers covered him).
How big of an impact will vary greatly depending on recruit, but being aligned with the best is an absolute win. Oregon has definitely reaped the benefits of Nike. Compare that to Maryland, (headquarters of UA right down the road) and it's no contest. Brands matter. I am not making the argument Oregon is better than Maryland because Nike is better than Under Armor. I'm making the argument that if you asked a recruit who had nod visited either school which university is 'cooler' Oregon or Maryland, Oregon would win out.
Bottom line, it comes down to what makes Nike money. Nike knows Michigan is a cash cow and they will innovate and bring new things to Michigan because they know it will equal sales.
WIth all of the recent verbal committs and last year's verbals who eventually committed elsewhere over last year's season, does anyone have an attrition % of 3 -5 star who ended up elsewhere after previously giving the verbal committ?
