High school kids are disallowed from smoking for a reason. What do you think that reason is? Possibly because they do not yet have the mental capacity to make a decision that will permanently fuck up their lungs for the remainder of their lives?
|04/30/2018 - 9:03pm||*duplicate||
|04/30/2018 - 9:02pm||If you would take it back,||
If you would take it back, you couldn't. Because your parents allowed you to make the decision, or decided for you. For those who would take it back and have parents who encouraged it, whether actively, or passively by watching college football / NFL all weekend long, they cannot. That's the point -- you're making the decision for someone who does not yet have the life experiences to make such a decision. Young people think they are invincible mainly because they are young. Only when one ages does one think, maybe I shouldn't have fucked up my brain since society seems to value brains in the 21st century and not brawns.
|04/30/2018 - 8:57pm||It is incorrect to assume||
It is incorrect to assume that none of the people you played with have no symptoms of CTE. This demonstrates your lack of knowledge of CTE generally. Moreover, you are an example of the kids I feel bad foor -- those with parents who have poor decision-making abilitiy.
Evidence is clear that football damages brains. I will not make that decision for my son. If he wants to play, he can play when he has left the household at 18, which this country thinks is too young to handle booze, but is plenty old enough to go to war and decide to fuck up your brain.
Moreover, anyone can spout off anecdotal evidence. I have a family member who died of CTE. He withered away for four years and died at 64.

This post and many others during, and since, this past 2017 season remind me of how markets behave. People sell when the market is down and buy when the market is hot, when they should be doing exactly the opposite. I am sure there are many behavioral studies to cite, but I just thought I'd add my two cents of sense.
Chill out, everybody. I'm buying the low and will be selling the high when I watch us win the Natty in '18.

Not a lawyer, but my understanding is that the regulations must be essential if the product is going to exist at all. So, regarding not paying players, can argue that this makes the product unique and therefore is essential for the product to exist. As far as schools not holding satellite camps in certain areas, I'm not sure that's even close to essential for college football to exist in its current form.

|11/07/2014 - 3:46pm||LOL.
What a fraud Bacon is.
What a fraud Bacon is. He tells everyone that Harbaugh won't come if DB is still here. Now, after he got what he wants, he tells everyone he would bet against Harbaugh coming here.
While your at it, Bacon, can you please write another book that has excerpts in it slamming our last football coach to win a National Championship? Thanks.
|11/04/2014 - 11:36am||This sounds fantastic to me.||
This sounds fantastic to me. But it misses the issue. Will those potential ADs be able to or willing to spend the money that landing Harbaugh requires? The type of money that DB proved he was willing to spend.

|11/04/2014 - 10:18am||It's looking likely that we||
It's looking likely that we will miss on this coaching hire. It's looking like people were bilked into believing Harbaugh wouldn't come if DB was here, when in fact DB was our best chance at landing Harbaugh.
That's what it looks like to me. Someone please rebut; I'd gladly welcome it.
|11/04/2014 - 10:15am||DB also paid coaches, which||
DB also paid coaches, which was not exactly a proclivity of previous Michigan ADs.
How many people will be happy that DB is gone if we end up with an AD that puts Michigan more "in line with academics" and therefore decides that paying a coach top dollar would send the wrong message? Plenty would be unhappy, as many were convinced that the reason we didn't have Harbaugh was because of DB.
Many were tricked by John Bacon and others into believing that DB being gone would give us a shot at Harbaugh. They are slowly starting to realize that DB was likely our best shot, as he was willing to spend money.
And, for the record, I wasn't thrilled with DB either. But I'd gladly take Chobani Under the Lights and Harbaugh than academic focused AD and __insert name here__.
|11/03/2014 - 9:11pm||Welp, this is what happens||
Welp, this is what happens when those who wanted DB gone for reasons other than the football team's performance convinced many Michigan fans that DB was responsible for not landing Harbaugh. Now, shortly after DB's resignation, Michigan fans begin to realize that odds are starting to look like the next AD won't be willing (or maybe able) to spend the type of money DB was willing to spend to get a coach like Harbaugh. Then, they realize, they got conned by people who said DB was the reason Harbaugh isn't coaching Michigan.
But John Bacon is happy.
|10/26/2014 - 10:58am||Yup. Thanks, Bacon, for||
Thanks, Bacon, for painting Lloyd Carr as one of the worst things that has happened to Michigan football.
|10/26/2014 - 10:54am||I'm not sure you understand||
I'm not sure you understand what Bacon is doing, so let me spell out the logic for you:
Jim H will answer the phone if any AD at Michigan calls about the head coaching position. If I could draw on a whiteboard, there would be a large circle with Michigan AD in it.
Jim H will answer the phone if a new AD calls him. If I could draw on a whiteboard, there would be a small circle that says new AD inside the larger circle that says Michigan AD.
If you can't see that this guy has no information outside of what everyone else has, then you are blind. The guy is being very careful with the statements he makes, so as to garner as much support as possible for axing DB.
People with just as much knowledge, if not more, have stated that the best chance at getting Jim H for next year requires keeping DB. And it makes sense, not only for timing reasons, but because one thing DB has shown is that he will actually spend money.
Everyone here wants to go back to the old way of Michigan football. No branding, etc. Well, guess what comes with branding? A lot of money to spend on a new football coach. And guess what, Schlissel may very likely love nothing more than for football to be an afterthought to academics. You could easily infer that, just like Bacon has inferred every piece of "inside knowledge" he spews.

Incorrect. He said won't come "from the current administration" not won't "come here under" the current administration. Do you understand the difference? If not, I can't help you.

Stop misquoting others to further your agenda! It does not display integrity that is expected of Michigan students/alumni.

We get it--you've heard a lot of things, including hearing things from Brian.
Stop saying "fact." "Brian alluded to the fact . . ." Guess what, it isn't fact. Stop acting like it is. It could be true that JH and DB don't get along. It could also be BS. Further, it could be used to spread ire against DB by those who want DB gone for other reasons besides his (in)ability to hire a competent head coach.

I won't be here to refute, as I am off to bed. I trust the mgocommunity will actually listen to the link(s) you eventually post to see that your quote misses the mark.
Also, please use "[" instead of "(" when you add language that did not come from the source quoted.
|10/21/2014 - 10:37pm||This contradicts a lot of||
This contradicts a lot of mgoblog groupthink. Many people, including myself, have pointed out mischaracterizations of Bacon's quotes as well as total misquotes of Webb regarding the Brandon/Harbaugh dynamic.
|10/21/2014 - 10:35pm||Agree. Also telling is the||
Agree. Also telling is the fact that Bacon did not speak out during stretchgate. Yes, stretchgate seemed to many, including me, like a jihad. But this doesn't hide the fact that the football program received its first ever sanctions. The fact that Bacon kept quiet then, and is now leading the charge, to me is very telling, given that Bacon basically had an all access pass during RR's tenure, and no press pass under Brandon's.
|10/21/2014 - 10:30pm||That is a mischarterization||
That is a mischarterization of what Bacon has said. Bacon has said that agents and others tell him that they don't think Brandon could bring in Harbaugh. Which is more damning of Brandon, I don't know. But let's at least stop mischarcterizing others' positions.
|10/21/2014 - 10:26pm||Thanks.
The gist is that it
The gist is that it would take too long to fire Brandon, bring in a new AD, and then hire a new football coach. So if we want a chance Harbaugh next season, we should want Brandon to remain AD at least through the football coach hiring process.
|10/21/2014 - 10:23pm||I agree that the jury is out||
I agree that the jury is out on whether DB can actually hire a competent football coach.
|10/21/2014 - 10:20pm||I agree that both are trying||

LOL! Exactly. Or he tells them something that doesn't jive with mgoblog groupthink.
|10/21/2014 - 10:11pm||I really don't think Jim||
I really don't think Jim would allow Dave to sit in on his film sessions. Jim is a pretty passionate man, so I would expect he would tell Dave to GTFO. And given that Dave is on the hot seat, I'm sure he would comply.
Additionally, JB has no problem whatsoever coaching with Dave as AD. It's not like big name coaches won't coach here because he is AD. We have two already doing so.
Real question is whether or not Dave could actually make the hire.
