I have to ask, who other than computer programmers cared about the old site looking dated? Internet fads come and go. I must be in the minority, but ever since I first saw a site with this layout a year or two ago I have hated it. “Old” sites were more intuitive to use and were laid out in a manner that made sense: chronologically. I am not complaining about mgoblog, as the content is still second to none (and I’m an addict), but just about this newest trend.

04/17/2018 - 4:50pm It is hard for a coach to

It is hard for a coach to call a good game when he has no faith in his QB. That severely limits the playbook and prevents the coach from taking advantage of opportunities that would be availble with a competent QB. People really underestimate the impact of the poor QB play last year. On one hand, it is up to the coaches to get the QBs up to par. On the other, the only two QBs on the roster recruited from high school by the current staff were a RS Frosh and a true Frosh. Yes, other programs have had successful youg QBs, but I would guess that those programs are notable exceptions, rather than the rule.

For clarity's sake, maybe state who thee_Matty_D (or any other twitter handle) is when posting in the future. Many of us do not have the twitter handles of the members of the staff memorized. Yes, I was able to find out that it is Matt Dudek, Michigan's Direcotr of Recruiting, using Google, but why not just say that in the post?

Per the Illini fans I know: Self is a great recruiter but terrible coach; and Weber is a great coach but terrible recruiter. That is why Weber was able to do so much more with the talent Self accumulated at Illinois than Self ever did or could have.

03/31/2018 - 12:41pm The “down in front” bs

The “down in front” bs happened to me the first game of my freshman year at a football game because I was assigned a seat not in the student section. Given that it was my first game at the Big House and I was just trying to be a supportive fan during the worst loss in Michigan history, it really soured my initial experience with going to football games. I really do think that the “down in front” types are bad for the fan base and for the teams. There is a reason Michigan doesn’t have a home field advantage like the OSUs, PSUs, and Alabamas of the world. If someone said down in front at a game in Bryant Denny, they’d be heckled out of the stadium

03/25/2018 - 10:29am He just lost a close game in

He just lost a close game in the Elite 8. I have no problem with him being upset. I doubt there are many people who would be able to put on a fake smile just after losing such a big game, and he’s probably more competitive than most, given his profession. Would Beilein have handled it better? Absolutely. But Beilein is a truly rare person, and that plus his coaching ability are why we are such a lucky fan base.

03/23/2018 - 3:20pm Giant walking trees from The

Giant walking trees from The Lord of the Rings. Also, The Lord of the Rings was published in the 50s, so age is no excuse! Not being a nerd may be, but I wouldn’t know about that.

03/23/2018 - 12:44am Given the way Michigan

Given the way Michigan handled A&M’s full court press, FSU’s press slightly scares me. However, I also have complete faith in Beilein to get that figured out

03/19/2018 - 4:17pm He looks like every Indiana

He looks like every Indiana player under Bobby Knight: sallow skin and sunken eyes. Plus the fact that he’s apparently a good shooter? Perfect fit.

03/18/2018 - 12:55pm Houston was playing pretty

Houston was playing pretty good D, but Michigan also airballed 2-3 wide open threes. Also, every time a Michigan guard drove they got to the rim. Once it became apparent the three shot wasn’t there, and that the refs were calling a foul every time a guy drove the lane on both sides, the strategy should have (and did, by the end) changed.

03/16/2018 - 12:29pm Watching the Houston game

Watching the Houston game last night put my mind at ease. SDSU was getting good looks on nearly every possession, but simply couldn’t convert. Sure, Michigan could lay another egg offensively, but that seems unlikely given the past two months. Plus, a team centered around one guy offensively just does not scare me that much, provided that one guy isn’t a world beater like D Rose was in college, something Gray is not.

03/14/2018 - 12:29pm On the other hand, Kugler

On the other hand, Kugler could be a guy who is technically sound and knows what to do in the film room, but simply makes mistakes or missed things in games. Could still be a great coach with that flaw as a player.

03/02/2018 - 12:05pm Not sure why, but this thread

Not sure why, but this thread raised a question in my head that I’m hoping someone here can answer. Do college and NBA players get custom made shoes? I’m talking more about fit than design. Seems like they could do 3-D modeling of each player’s foot to make shoes that perfectly fit the player’s foot length, width, and arch. Is this something that is done?

02/27/2018 - 2:04pm As someone who believes that

As someone who believes that Title IX is a concern, I feel it is necessary to rebut he bad faith claim. The claims that the money will simply go to athletes rather than facilities flies in the face of past realities. Fact is, over a hundred wrestling programs have been cut since the 1979 guidance on proportionality under Title IX was issued. This is despite the fact that high school wrestling has been growing. Just as with the proportionality requirements, where schools cut programs rather than expanding, spending more money on the athletes in the revenue sports will simply lead to a cutting of the non-revenue, “unimportant” sports. I fully believe that athletes should be able to make money, just not directly from the schools. Let them get money from boosters or advertisements, whatever. I just think people devalue the impact of these sorts of proposals on non revenue sports because, out of sight, out of mind. This is certainly a position that ignores capitalism, given that there is little market for these sports, but if determinations about university matters should be purely based on capitalistic aims, then three quarters of the majors at Michigan should be cut as well.

Breathe deeply, count to ten, and leave the room. If you engages and start yelling, you are part of the problem

12/21/2017 - 9:46pm What do you mean by adjust to

What do you mean by adjust to the players they have? Given that they consistently got players open against OSU, seems like they did pretty well, scheme-wise. There is no scheme that can win against a good defense without a functional QB and receivers who can come down with the ball. All they can do is get guys open for reasonably easy throws, which they did. Seems like a success to me.

Also, I know the consensus is to blame the QB play last year, but seriously think and try to remember the last time a UM receiver bailed out the QB by making a tough catch the way other teams’ receivers consistently do against UM? Hemingway is the last I can remember. Darboh’s drop against Iowa last year is a great example of that. He catches that ball, game over, Michigan wins. It was certainly a tough catch to make, but teams that make the championship have receivers that make those catches. The hope is that last year’s class of receivers will start to make those catches.

12/20/2017 - 9:20pm Just because Alabama is the

Just because Alabama is the best football program in the country right now does not mean they aren’t also paying their players. Having attended both, I can tell you that the players at Alabama all drive nice, new cars. No premier Alabama player would need to drive an Uber like Hurst. Every Alabama fan I have met is proud that they pay their players, and will tell you that Michigan does too, because everyone does. They simply have a different mindset about it than do Michigan fans.

12/18/2017 - 10:11pm Michigan has no time for

Michigan has no time for projects? So, you have already given up on Peters and McCaffrey? Based on your post, you seem to be suggesting that we will need a true freshman to start next year, which is absurd.

12/17/2017 - 12:45am Can we ban using "Modest

Can we ban using "Modest Proposal" to make serious suggestions? I came into this thread assuming it was gonig to be a collection of funny and absurd proposals, given the title. There are a lot of ways to ask for suggestions for minor improvements to the site; "Modest Proposal" should not be one.

12/14/2017 - 8:48am Divided

The vote is on whether the internet is a utility under the communications act of 1934, not simply “net neutrality.” If the internet is not a utility, as defined within that act, then the FCC does not have the authority to regulate it in ways such as net neutrality. The two sides are therefore talking past one another about different things, as usual. Basically, the pro net neutrality side is ignoring the other, outdated regulatory structures within that act, which may (will?) be enforced upon internet companies in the future. Those against net neutrality are ignoring the fact that net neutrality alone is likely a positive thing, and are instead focused on the barriers to innovation that may be put up in the future. As always, it is more complicated than either side will admit. I personally wonder if the debate would be different if Congress had passed a stand-alone law concerning net neutrality, rather than the FCC making a regulatory decision to define the internet within the 1934 act.

Seriously, even if he's worse than OKorn, at least Peters will be getting experience for next year. Not like this level of play will beat any of the good teams on the schedule

09/25/2017 - 2:03am I really think the biggest

I really think the biggest difference between Gary and Clowney is the other guys on that team. South Carolina didn't have anyone at Hurst, Bush, or Winovich's levels. All they had was Clowney. That meant that there was no one to steal Clowney's stats, but is also why that defense was nowhere near as good as this one.

09/19/2017 - 5:24pm Response to your points, in

Response to your points, in no particular order:

First, Air Force did less with less, given that they scored fewer point and lost. Second, you can't send tight ends out on routes if they have to stay in to help the line block. Not sure what you want the coaches to do there when the options are let Speight get killed or send a tight end into a route. Third, Isaac has been good, better than the RBs on most other Big Ten teams. Fourth, QBs not named Brady or Rodgers lose composure when they are constantly getting pressured, it happens. Last, Air Force has a bunch of disciplined third and fourth year players out there, as opposed to first and second year players. Even if limited athletically, those extra years are important when it comes to technique and learning the system.

In conclusion, don't boo the players, support them as they work to get better.

09/16/2017 - 11:13pm You'd think short routes to

You'd think short routes to massive TEs would be the ideal for a team that doesn't trust its QB.

09/12/2017 - 4:57pm When Tuman was playing

When Tuman was playing though, were DBs allowed to push an airborne player out of bounds to prevent a completion like they can now though? Obviously, the ability to push airborne receivers out makes that tactic more difficult. I know they changed the rule in te NFL in the last 10 years, but am not sure about the college rules back then.
