08/09/2010 - 4:53pm I remember I went to to a

I remember I went to to a game in high school where my friend (who is 6-5) was playing against Vignier.  My friend goes up for a short jumper, Vignier comes from across the lane and swats into like the 5th row of the high school gym.  Good times.

As for me, probably a pickup game at the CCRB against people I didn't recognize, but my athleticism generally banished me to Court 3 (where I could actually hold my own against the scrubs).

06/30/2010 - 3:53pm I think this was a great

I think this was a great accomplishment for all Seths out there...since that includes me, I will take partial credit whenever I can.  Even if I had absolutely nothing to do with it and lack the ability to even write something resembling it.

06/09/2010 - 10:13pm I am excited because Rutgers,

I am excited because Rutgers, Syracuse, and Maryland are all reasonable driving distance from me, so I could potentially be looking at four live Michigan games a year (those three plus my annual pilgrimage to Ann Arbor).  So, that's the reason for my excitement.  From a big picture standpoint, I'm with you.

11/13/2009 - 10:19pm Call me crazy, I actually

Call me crazy, I actually love every Holtz segment on ESPN. I love that I have to spend 15 minutes first figuring out what he said, and then another 15 minutes figuring out what the hell it means. Then a half hour later, I finally get to laughing at it.

I think my favorite was when he said ND would beat USC because they believed they could win. After all, that's as good a reason as any, right?

10/23/2009 - 10:01am 2006 OSU game is the obvious

2006 OSU game is the obvious choice, but since I haven't seen it yet, I will go with the 1999 game against Illinois, where we blew something like a 27-7 lead, and lost 35-29, a week after losing to State. Just a painful painful loss on a team that ended up finishing #6 in the BCS with a win over Alabama in the Orange Bowl. While I doubt we would have jumped Va Tech for the title game, our strength of schedule was outstanding that year (MSU, Wisconsin, and Penn State all finished in the top 10 of the BCS), and potentially could have put a 1-loss Michigan team in the title game against FSU.

Too many caps clicking on that link...my eyes hurt. Damn you, Dex. Or better yet, DAMN YOU DEX!!!!!

08/19/2009 - 1:54pm I have definitely heard this

I have definitely heard this story before. We probably know some of the same people. Either that, or he yelled that at a lot of girls and a lot of girls answered him that way. I'm guessing it's the latter.

Not my story, but my buddy claims he had a Spanish class with Victor Hobson and Cato June. One day the teacher was calling on Hobson, and June apparently says "Senora [pronounced with a hard n]. Vic ain't programmed to speak." Then I guess the teacher called on someone else.

I always cracked up at that story.

07/22/2009 - 7:58pm Yeah, that one is a

Yeah, that one is a no-brainer for me. My brother was a senior and I had just received my acceptance letter about two weeks before the Rose Bowl. My dad getting handed two free tickets about 15 minutes before kickoff for him and my mom. That was an amazing day.

Don't you mean e-drape?

06/10/2009 - 2:02pm What about Global GUTS?

What about Global GUTS? Would you incorporate elements of that? Maybe drape yourself with a flag for a victory lap when you win?

04/29/2009 - 11:21am Do intramural sports

Do intramural sports count?

If so, I am totally a former Michigan athlete.

03/20/2009 - 12:43am Brian, you have had a lot of

Brian, you have had a lot of great posts over the years. There was a diary about your best posts of all time. I think this has to take its place among the list of legendary posts. It may lack the eloquence of other posts, but it just sums up everything I, and probably many others, just spent the last 3 hours saying (in between shots and beers, and yes, even glasses of champagne): Michigan basketball is relevant again.

03/12/2009 - 3:45pm Henson threw about 50 passes

Henson threw about 50 passes his freshman year (mostly in garbage time), so I'm not sure that's how we should be judging him.

03/11/2009 - 11:09am Hungry Howie's tastes like

Hungry Howie's tastes like ass, and Dominos doesn't? I know Dominos started in Michigan and all, but that doesn't make it good.

03/09/2009 - 10:18pm White on white is okay as

White on white is okay as long as Kurt Russell remembers to wear his white shoes.

02/27/2009 - 11:55am If it's the same as when I

If it's the same as when I started ('98), they'll send you something in a few months and you just fill it out (well, and pay of course) and get tickets.

02/27/2009 - 11:22am Wait, are you saying that

Wait, are you saying that taking it to a mechanic is having no idea of how to perform routine car maintenance? Oh well, I guess I'm in your boat then.

02/20/2009 - 12:10pm Actually not at all, but it

Actually not at all, but it got the crowd temporarily fired up, what with his "Go forth boldly and beat the Buckeyes" shtick. Then Johnny Sears gave up about 8 touchdowns and the game became close again.

02/20/2009 - 11:58am 2006 vs. Ball State can't be

2006 vs. Ball State can't be on this list, if only because it featured Patrick Stewart at halftime. That elevates an otherwise awful game out of the "worst" category.

02/20/2009 - 10:58am Good topic

Best that I can think of:

1) 1999 vs. Notre Dame: We won 26-22, first game of the season. I think Notre Dame ended the game on our 25 yard line or somewhere near there.

2) 2002 vs. Penn State: 27-24 Overtime win. First OT game at Michigan, I believe.

3) 2003 vs. Notre Dame: 38-0, largely on the list because we were standing next to two Notre Dame guys that were talking so much crap before the game and even more so after ND recovered a fumble on the first offensive possession.

Best Michigan games I've been to though have not been in Ann Arbor: 1998 (1997 season) Rose Bowl and 2000 (1999 season) Orange Bowl.

Worst that I can think of:

1) 1999 vs. Illinois: Lost 35-29, blew a HUGE lead. Win that game, and there's a distinct possibility we play for a title in '99.

2) 2001 vs. OSU: Ugh. I still don't even want to talk about it.

3) 2005 vs. OSU: See #2.

02/19/2009 - 5:10pm C'mon

Message board retirement posts are the best. Don't tell me you're not getting a little choked up that someone who you've only had indirect contact with will never have indirect contact with you again. Brings a tear to my eye, and I hardly ever post on the board.

02/05/2009 - 1:46pm Well, shouldn't he adapt?

Well, shouldn't he adapt? After all, the spread IS dead.

01/26/2009 - 1:41pm Really?

What happened in 1999? I was at that game, and the only problem we had with the fans was that some guy in the row ahead of us was farting the whole game. It was awful. Other than that, they left my buddies and I alone.

01/23/2009 - 4:25pm It's a good idea, but what if

It's a good idea, but what if it's the 1 out of 3 times that it doesn't work?

01/11/2009 - 4:10pm There are, but there's the

There are, but there's the nostalgia component that no New York eatery can capture.

I could go for a Jimmy Johns right now...someone needs to open one in NYC immediately.

12/29/2008 - 4:39pm Who gets to be the brilliant

Who gets to be the brilliant defensive coordinator who figured out the other team was telegraphing its plays in the bowl game?

Am I the only one with the Coach theme song in his head now?

12/29/2008 - 1:50pm Does anyone still remember

Does anyone still remember their temporary password. I was definitely handed my uniquename and a temporary password at orientation in the summer of 1998. Somehow, over 10 years have gone by, and I can still remember the temporary password: beschwatlaky4

12/24/2008 - 1:11pm App. State, and it's not even

App. State, and it's not even close, I'd say. What were our expectations when we lost to Toledo? I mean, it was disappointing and nauseating, but it's not like anyone was really expecting much out of this team this year.

App. State, we were #5, and people were talking about us as a contender for the MNC...Henne, Hart, and Long in their last hurrah- yeah, this isn't even close in my mind.

12/22/2008 - 12:53pm Speaking of linebackers

Speaking of linebackers coaches, back when I lived in Melrose Place my junior year, there was a homeless dude who lived in the alley who used to talk about being the linebackers coach, and how he was "taking them to Pasadena." He didn't imply that the rest of the team was going. I think his name was Moose. I recognized him walking down East U. shirtless about 4 years later yelling and screaming, but he didn't wink at me or say anything of substance. True story.

11/17/2008 - 8:10pm The two souvenir mugs of hot

The two souvenir mugs of hot chocolate was really the only thing that got me through. I think I finally thawed out Saturday night at about 10 pm. I was always jealous of my brother who got to go to the 5-0 Purdue game, now I have something that can compare.

But yeah, living in NYC these days, I only get to go to one game a year, so there was no way in hell I was leaving.

11/04/2008 - 12:35pm That's nothing, consider

That's nothing, consider yourself lucky.  THREE hour wait at my polling place in NYC.  Just a giant clusterfuck all around.

Are you inviting all of the Manhattan posters to a party where we can watch on the BTN in the comfort of your home?

10/27/2008 - 5:48pm "So long as Michigan

"So long as Michigan football success tries to build upon the spread system,
it will fail.  We're not a weak culture that's never known success.
Until our team is made the foundation on which to build the new
offense, we'll go nowhere but down.  Every week."

I don't follow.  Because Michigan has been successful in the past, the spread system will not work at Michigan?  I've never been an ace at reading comprehension, but that's what I'm getting from this.

10/27/2008 - 4:17pm Yeah, I really cannot see us

Yeah, I really cannot see us winning this one at their place.  That being said, if we lose the next three and then somehow come back with a win at OSU, that will make me happier with a 3-9 season than I could ever possibly imagine.

10/26/2008 - 8:44pm Curious

Is there anywhere that has stats for 40+ yard plays this year from all the teams in college football?  I'm curious where we would rank in that kind of stat.  Also how that compares to previous Michigan teams.

10/23/2008 - 12:54pm Those who stay will drink

Those who stay will drink chocolate milk.  BARWIS!

No way, it can't be 10.  I started Fall 1998, and I feel like I remember it at least through junior year, but maybe I'm way off.

Really?  Referencing The Bagel Factory dates you?  Damn, have we really been out of school that long?  That depresses me.

He seems to be pretty solid at the hand signals from the sidelines.  So, he's got that going for him.

10/18/2008 - 9:24pm Which crap NYC UM bar did you

Which crap NYC UM bar did you go to? I gave up after suffering through some of the comments at Blondie's last week. With Time Warner apparently reaching an agreement with BTN, I doubt I'll ever go back to one for a game.
