07/30/2013 - 12:19am Word

Spoken like a true father who has cried thinking about waking up in time for work in 4 hours why cradling the cutest thing in the world.

07/30/2013 - 12:18am AWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

07/01/2013 - 5:08am Aaaah man....

Even the death of one fire fighter is too many.

05/28/2013 - 12:04am Great analysis!

Tom Osborne had only one worry about joining the Big Ten, and that was not being able to recruit Texas as well. Unfortunately, they really need to get a dynamite coach who can recruit and coach.

05/26/2013 - 10:30pm Yep

Rutgers has a pretty decent chance at being good in the B1G. In terms of pure talent, they're better than, or at least close to, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa, Northwestern and Illinois. Very good recruiting in-state and closeby in New York and  Maryland, plus the B1G powers of Ohio and Michigan are a significant distance away.

Until now, the Big East was simply not an option for most top New Jersey recruits. Now they're in the B1G, and have the money to pay coaches and rennovate.

Hey, if South Carolina can do it with world beaters just next door, sure it's not impossible for Rutgers. I hate to say it, but if they had a coach like Dantoni who would lock down the borders, they would be pretty good.

05/24/2013 - 4:29am Well

I think we have to take more factors into comparison.

1) Part of the draw of going to a school in your conference are that there are away games to your home state. With Texas being such a large state, it probably matters less to a Texas recruit that ATM is in the SEC. In fact, with all the Texas schools in the B12, they are still very attractive.

Contrast that with New Jersey and Maryland, which are small. A game over there is probably within driving distance for most parents in those states, New York, and Northern Virginia, which is pretty nice.

2) Most of the SEC is already in prime recruiting territory. Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana already pump out a huge number of blue chips, and neighbor other talent rich states like North Carolina and Virginia. Of course they'll target more Texas and Missouri recruits, but probably only the top tier guys, which doesn't put much of a dent in your numbers.

The B1G, however, has a lot less in-state talent. Basically, we need New Jersey and Maryland recruits more than the SEC needs Texas and Missouri recruits.

3) Why not include Texas A&M in your equation? Obviously they are part of the SEC. If more talent in Jersey and Maryland go to Rutgers and Maryland instead of another conference, that means a stronger B1G.

.

.

I agree that the expansions recruiting impact to the SEC hasn't been huge, but think it'll be a lot bigger for B1G teams.

05/16/2013 - 1:06pm Good one

" Can do the worm, so will probably get the safety role on the victory formation."

Good one

05/15/2013 - 7:54pm Not really

They have a crap ton of in-state talent, with no major powers within short driving distances.

05/03/2013 - 11:14pm also

Football is soso but they play hard and their coach is hard to dislike

04/28/2013 - 9:35pm Well

Yeah but everyone in every country agrees that they have the worst politicians. Saying 'your state has the most moronic dumb politicians' is different from northerners saying 'like how people from Texas cheat' or some chinese dude joking 'like how Americans are fat and dumb'

04/28/2013 - 9:22pm Shrug

Feel free to get out

04/28/2013 - 1:29am Nice

You manage to insult Texans and women, which I think your mom was, in one sentence. Guess you aren't interested in being a Michigan Man.

04/28/2013 - 1:28am Well

If your kids went to college somewhere and people there were joking that Michiganers like him were dumb lazy unioned leechers living in slums, I hope they can laugh it off.

04/23/2013 - 1:55am Probably

FSU probably explored other options, but decided that staying in the ACC was a better situation, even if very slightly. Once that decision was made, having a full strength ACC was in their best interest, IMO.

04/19/2013 - 3:48pm Would like him but...

If he's transfering for more playing time, WVU which just graduated Smith would probably be more appealing.

04/16/2013 - 2:55am Well

When you are a 5 star athlete living in Alabama, in fact, when you live in a town called Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and has committed to Alabama, most coaches don't want to waste their time.

That being said, come on up north!

04/02/2013 - 9:00pm Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelll

He's kind of excited right now, but he's already a junior age wise and his stock is rising.

Given how hard it is for big guys to go through their careers without ankle or knee injuries, I wouldn't be surprised if he changes his mind after the dust settles. Selfishly I want him back, but you gotta do what you gotta do, and i wouldn't blame him.

04/02/2013 - 8:54pm Eh

He's already a junior age wise, so I wouldn't blame him for changing his mind after the dust settles. Athletic, rebounding, runs the floor type of big men are at a premium. You gotta do what you gotta do though selfishly I want him back.

04/02/2013 - 8:52pm The sacrifice

The Final Four Gods required a bloody sacrifice in ACL's and exitings in other major sports.

04/01/2013 - 2:22pm Front page

That kind of 'so happy its hard to breathe' joy is hard to come by, congrats!!!

03/12/2013 - 12:42am According

According to ACC fans, ND joining in full is a matter of time. Good luck to them.

03/12/2013 - 12:41am Yeah

Now that the Big East a Catholic basketball conference, the 3 football schools that have been there the longest(UConn, Cincinatti, South Florida) probably just want to get the most exit money possible. I mean, UConn basketball has to recruit kids to the American 12 conference now.

03/01/2013 - 12:07am Good for him

Almost 60 million dollars for 3 years, including the signing bonus. Not bad!

02/23/2013 - 5:00am Weird

Guess I went there because I was accepted and didn't know the full extent of just how many loans I would have to take out eventually. Those 4 years went by in a haze of highs, lows, great friends, numbing loneliness, studying, much procrastination, craziness, insanity, and dead boring all rolled into one.

7 years later, when I walk pass certain streets in California, I can close my eyes and feel myself walking past the Chem building.

02/22/2013 - 12:56am "They didn't even win a National Championship"

Christ, quit acting all so high and mighty, like a National Championship is all that matters. What Chris did is nothing to be proud of, but everyone makes bad choices.

Its widely believed he took the money after his last Michigan ball game, and before the draft. He didn't do drugs, booze and drive, assault someone, shave points, but took us fair and square to 2 final fours. Not to mention the other 4 guys did nothing wrong.

Michigan benefited enormously from the Fab 5 back then, and is even now. Any 'black hole' the program has gone through has way much more to do with coaching than the sanctions.

02/06/2013 - 4:33pm My poor attempt to follow the

My poor attempt to follow the masterpiece:

4:10 pm: For the 97th time Lane checks to make sure the fax machine is working. It is. He opens the USC rivals page... only to discover another 5 star has decommited and is going to Idaho. He slowly stands up, hands shaking. Filled with a rage he cannot control, Lane marches down the hall  to scream at his recruiting coordinator. He opens the door, ready to scream.... and his dads empty office stares back at him.

02/02/2013 - 2:17am Also

As a high profile public employee representing the University, they are held under higher standards. Cheating on your pregnant wife is a really low thing to do.

02/02/2013 - 2:14am Uh

Cheating on a pregnant wife is none of our business, but shouldn't be labeled 'bossing' either.

01/31/2013 - 6:58pm Well

It's correct in the same way as a certain n word refers to black people, wetbacks refer to latinos, and cu** can refer to a woman.

01/29/2013 - 6:05pm Well

Apparently a male stripper was among the folks who gave the players this deer antler spray.

No wonder 'Bama won, Their players were taking illegal animal spray from male strippers while the other team was mourning fake dead girlfrends.

01/17/2013 - 6:33pm Yeah

Yeah who knows maybe Treadwell's fake too.

01/17/2013 - 3:31am All

All I know is that this probably brightens up Brian, and every Michigan fans day after the bad weekend.

01/16/2013 - 4:28pm One thing

One thing that Delaney probably wishes he could redo is the ownership of the B1G. Fox has 51%. If we were to own 100%, the B1G would probably always be the richest conference.

01/16/2013 - 4:25pm They

They would have if those states were close by. Who wouldn't want the financial benefits of two rich and populous states, not to mention talent rich?

01/15/2013 - 5:00pm Assuming

This sounds like a ploy to get UNLV admitted to the Pac 12, though I'm not sure if the Pac 12 would allow that ever.

And isn't that huge screen and ugly track money sinks? Don't they need those areas for premier seating and club suites? How else are they going to get people to pay for a stadium with a decent at best football team?

01/15/2013 - 4:55pm Vincent

Vincent Smith handled it a lot better than I would have. Respect.

01/08/2013 - 7:39pm Yay

67 more top 5 cuts to go before signing day 2014!

Seriously though, pretty nice start.

01/03/2013 - 7:26pm Taken

Taken from the NW live game thread about Trey

"The problem isn't that he's better than any NU player tonight, it's that he's better than any NU player ever."

12/24/2012 - 4:33pm Fun

Half my picks got injured, but I rode Stafford, Eric Decker, and the waiver wire was kind to me with Cecil Shorts, Danario Alexander, Bryce Brown, and Knowshon Moreno.

Won the regular season, but lost to the 5th seed. She needed 21 points from Chris Johnson, and the dude breaks a 97 yard td run. Take it away and he got like 5 points.

12/15/2012 - 10:21pm Anyone

Anyone know who the DE that beat Dawson at the end of the 2012 Sound Mind Sound Body Dawson 1on1 video is? Just curious, looked pretty fast.

12/07/2012 - 5:47pm Damn

Need another paper bag... Title [email protected]#[email protected]#???? The Amaker 10 game conference losing streak seems like yesterday and probably made me allergic to mbb for a good 5 years...

12/05/2012 - 12:51am Or rather

He knows how hard it is to win at Wisconsin. Not to mention he'll forever be compared with Alvarez and even Bielema. He wouldn't be able to get guys like Dorian Johnson in his backyard there either.

12/04/2012 - 6:30pm well

2012 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, only losses were to Kentucky and #18 Northern Illinois(in 2 OT), and beat everyone else including Rutgers. Jim Tressel Wide Receivers coach from 2004-2010

Pretty good hire imo.

12/04/2012 - 6:15pm Don't think it'll be Chryst.

Chryst has MUCH better local talent to work with at Pitt, and doesn't have to fly everywhere to recruit. The ACC is easier to win, and Penn State should be down just enough for him to grab a few recruits(Dorian Johnson), win, and move on to a better program. Even better if BOB leaves or Hackenburg decommits.

That said, if Wisky offers him 3 million a year, who knows?

12/04/2012 - 5:59pm Ahhh

Didn't think about the age. Well that's still a good 10 years or so. Or, only 10 years left for Dantonio to win something. The personality can coach though haha.

11/22/2012 - 6:02am Yeah

There was a NYT article about college fans in New York, and Rutgers had more fans than the next 3 combined. Maryland is right next to DC, and you're completely mistaken if you think it's not Maryland dominated. New Jersey and Maryland also has more high school talent by far than Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska, and Wisconsin so they will probably not be bottom feeders.

I'll also make this short: I'd rather trust Delaney and his judgement than someone who has his facts wrong.

11/21/2012 - 9:58pm Yes

Yes, but they will forever be second fiddle to Penn State in Pennsylvania, Ohio in Ohio, and Michigan in Michigan. At least New Jersey and Maryland has good enough talent... but no in-state rival.

Without built in in-state talent it's hard to consistantly compete. Hence the rotating doors of Pitt coaches. Can you imagine Dantonio with the talent of New Jersey or Maryland?

11/21/2012 - 9:47pm Football

Football takes a bit longer, but basketball can recover a lot faster. Look at Minnesota paying Tubby Smith almost 2 million.

11/21/2012 - 9:45pm Since

Since Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, or other schools will visit NY every 2 years if not every 3~4 years, I have a feeling those games will sell out with local opponent fans no matter what.
