Maybe Bob Sapolsky and Sam Harris, among others, are right and he doesn't have free will to choose not to drink and drive and I don't have free will to not post this.

Just finished Meacham's…

Just finished Meacham's Jackson bio. Have read a few of his and am always disappointed. Enjoy his commentary in Ken Burns' documentaries, but just don't love his writing choices.

This. Harbaugh did exactly…

This. Harbaugh did exactly what the players want to do...win a national title, raise your profile and then head to the NFL. It's actually a selling point if presented correctly.

I'll take Jamarcus Russell's…

I'll take Jamarcus Russell's college career for Orji.

This site has been the…

This site has been the single greatest joy in my ~35 years as a sports fan. Thank you.

I don't watch rooting for my…

I don't watch rooting for my team to not lose the most compared to another team. I root for them to win more than the other team.

The Cowboys also made bad…

The Cowboys also made bad plays which contributed to what would have likely been their 22-21 loss. Lamb fumbled going into the endzone. So what?

If the Lions' opponents sometimes had to play through the ref's bullshit and win in spite of them, then you have a fair point. If you've watched the Lions over the past 30 years, you know that it's about 10:1 in favor of the opponent getting the benefit of a controversial call at the end of the game.

With such a relatively small…

With such a relatively small sample, and without knowing the individual plays that go into the pass defense stats, is it THAT much of a dropoff even in year 2? Was he consistently worse game to game? Did he have one bad matchup? Did he biff one more play?

Perhaps poster meant "U.S…

Perhaps poster meant "U.S. policy regarding tactical nuclear weapon use" - since Kissinger had a large impact on the policy.

Under the sportsmanship…

Under the sportsmanship clause, you are penalizing the INSTITUTION, not the head coach, remember?

Why stay in a marriage when…

Why stay in a marriage when you know your family hates you?

Illegal sign stealing…

Illegal sign stealing jeopardizes player safety. Other schools are stealing signs but legally, so that doesn't jeopardize player safety. Ummm...

Loch Dogg came down to speak…

Loch Dogg came down to speak to my MBA class in 2013 or 14. I showed him my Michigan wallet and he was delighted, as this was proof of the brand being king, right? But when I told him I was a big MGoBlog reader, he let out an audible "ugggggh" and his shoulders sank. Then he told me they just wouldn't get off his back over there. Good times.

Had bacterial endocarditis…

Had bacterial endocarditis which necessitated an open-heart mechanical aortic valve replacement while I was in business school. Ended up having some complications and now have a pacemaker. But was back in school (gingerly) within 6 weeks.

Maybe I'm not understanding…

Maybe I'm not understanding your point, but unless when one of these guys gets injured the entire line is replace by the second string, wouldn't there be more line cohesion by having both tackles have time to gel with the other starters?

Great, now I won't be able…

Great, now I won't be able to get JCS out of my head for a week!

Has anyone done an analysis…

Has anyone done an analysis of how effective benching someone because of fouls is, really? When you bench a guy, you're essentially hoping to preserve a possible good matchup later in the game. Hoping. In exchange, you are often guaranteeing a bad matchup NOW. Which then frequently makes later moot. This isn't specifically about Reed in this game, just a general thought. I know we talk about auto-bench, etc. But could someone point me to some data on this? Feels like this should be headed more in the direction of going for it on 4th down. Not always, but more often than is tradition.

Life is comprised of…

Life is comprised of tradeoffs. You get two wins against Ohio State and two Big Ten titles and a return to national relevancy. And you get the flirtations with the NFL and the general weirdness.

We previously had Brady Hoke and the less winning and some concerning issues. And RichRod, who definitely seemed to bring out things that killed the image of Michigan with the reported lack of support from within the Michigan "family" almost immediately.

Ohio State had Tressel and those problems, and Urban, a great coach with no character. Penn State had JoePa and we found out what was really going on there and now they have Frames and he's a psycho/weirdo who asks for coaches' wives' IG pages before hiring them.

Adults are complicated, and throwing in the towel on a relationship because it isn't perfect and elements of it piss you off is childish, in my opinion.

You're right. We should wait…

You're right. We should wait for the 2023 pre-season polls to come out, then cancel the season and immediately start the playoffs with the top 4 ranked teams.

I was in undergrad at the…

I was in undergrad at the time and I think two of the first 3 weeks of the semester were canceled due to hurricanes. My car was trapped in the garage for a few days as the garage door was crinkled by the wind.

I thought that was Richie Hebner.

Is it at all possible that…

Is it at all possible that our AD had a liaison with a fraulein back in the day who named the child after him and whose best friend was named Beate? This would explain so much...

You're right, the Yankees…

You're right, the Yankees would have to actually win a playoff series against the Tigers for there to be a rivalry!

Isn't winning a lot of titles supposed to make you happy, btw?

Upset because the Yanks have…

Upset because the Yanks have never beaten the Tigers in a playoff series, or that the Tigers have the longest postseason winning streak against the Yankees of any team in history, and will continue the next time they meet in the playoffs?

"It’s a good offseason if:…

"It’s a good offseason if: Vincent Gray steps back when the competition steps up, and becomes an extra coach who brings the young guys up to speed quickly."

It's Monday morning and I can barely figure out how to use the internet, but what was this supposed to mean?

Actually, Harbs knew the refs would screw us on the TDs, but it's harder to do so with FGs, so he played the percentages there.

I'm only half referring to you.

It may not be a "good"…

It may not be a "good" season...but it may be a "better than expected" season, which is the line in his post that you quoted.

I heard NHL.TV is going away, and the only way to get that content is with ESPN+, so I'll be doing that if true.

I'm spending far too much…

I'm spending far too much thinking about how combining the first two letters of his first and last names and the last two letters of his first and last names gives you the same name. GReg EGan. Is this a common thing and I am just now seeing it?

Well, the whole team could…

Well, the whole team could transfer, and it wouldn't come as a huge surprise, so...

Played Demetrius a few years…

Played Demetrius a few years ago in a lovely outdoor courtyard with a local Shakes company, where I shared the stage with a rabid Michigan fan who was sadly dating an OSU fan.

I believe this was the go for two to beat OSU year and we were rehearsing at a private school where Tripp Welborne was the AD. Spoke with him right after and he did NOT appreciate that defensive performance...can only imagine what he must think of the more recent vintages.

I have a terrifying feeling that having mgoblog cause me to worriedly visit WebMD to see if I have testicular cancer will not be the nadir of my Michigan fandom.

USF. Go Bulls! Got my BA and MBA there. Up and coming research institution (Moffitt Cancer Center is on campus). Moved down here in time for their inaugural football game in 1997, where they won 80-3. Marlon Mack is my most recent favorite Bull.

Very sorry to hear about…

Very sorry to hear about your mom. Unmoored is exactly the word I've been using. Can't stress enough how helpful it is to hear other people's experiences, especially since I lived with my mom and have not seen any family since she passed in May, as they live back in Michigan.

Thank you for putting it…

Thank you for putting it that way. I never considered that viewpoint. I definitely loved my mom, and reading this board has been a godsend in keeping busy trying to not dwell on things. SOme really great people here.
