Surely people can't be

Surely people can't be trusted to make decisions, about their own health no less, by themselves.  We must legislate, litigate, and limit.  18-22 year old males certainly have no capacity to make informed decisions, based on the very obvious benefits and costs, about their own lives.  Thank God 17-18 year olds can't make decisions like choosing their elected representatives or facing possible death and/or injury by joining the military.

"I also think that the rules

"I also think that the rules need to be changed so that there is no reward for using excessive force in a hit.  I would require an interval between passes being caught and tackling the receiver, and rule that a hit can't cause an incompletion.  I would also remove fumbles from the rule book, giving the ball back to the team whose player who dropped the ball at the point of having dropped it."

You can't possibly be serious.  That is flag football.  I agree with you on the pads/helmet issue, but why even play the game if you can't play defense?  The scores would 70-63 on a regular basis.  Jesus, if this is what the game comes to at some point, just kill it and create a new sport.  This is like boxing banning punching.

Well it's great you came from

Well it's great you came from  a state with a good state university system.  Most people can't get an Ivy-League level education in their home state (just throwing that out there for people who haven't lived elsewhere).  Why do you think there are so many New Yorkers?  Obviously you can still get an education... but it's more understandable as a Cornell (or SUNY) v. Michigan issue than a UVa v. Michigan issue for many.

Isn't the amount of funding

Isn't the amount of funding UM gets from the state pretty much nil?  I don't have the stat, nor could I find it in a second, but I thought it was like 3-5%.  It's not like Michiganders tax dollars are supporting the school... it's federal funding and tuition (which keeps rising EVERY YEAR).  Perhaps they should address the 5% yearly increases in tuition... with no noticeable benefits.  Is the education at UM 25% better than it was 10 years ago?

Yes!  It looks really sweet.

Yes!  It looks really sweet.  Kind of like Wings, but with feathers.

So edgy, man.  So brave.

Definitely should have gone

Definitely should have gone with that one that looked like a head dress!  With the feathers on the crown of the helmet.  Those would've really popped on tv.  Or a blown up Redskins-style face that takes up the entire side of the helmet.  I like the zig-zag look, haven't seen it before.

Four exclamation points?!

Four exclamation points?!  Either you've had a lot of caffeine or you're very excited to know of another MGoBlogger in Kansas.

Try walking a day in his shoes.  You can't even understand how hard it is to take online classes, go to practice to play a game for a few hours a day, before heading back to your all-expenses paid life with a supermodel girlfriend.

Camo would be sweet with

Camo would be sweet with those matte helmets.  I think it would be hard to pull off in Maize and Blue though.  I hope we decide to use camo, I'd definitely get a jersey and recruits would love the novelty.  I'm thinking it could be Blue camo like the bad guys from GI Joe.

But honestly, this is an RCMB post.  "ZOMG look at this guy get horned in the ballz, bros!"

Was he also about to get into

Was he also about to get into a black Mercedes C-Class?  Yup, that's a real "student-athlete" there for you.

He may be refering to when

He may be refering to when Ypsilanti came to town a year or two ago for St. Pattys day.  Just my guess.

Has Michigan done the same

Has Michigan done the same thing recently?  Honestly, if it has happened I'd like to know, but I don't remember anyone recently being suspended for just the offseason.  Look at Hagerup, he's out for a year right?  And that was just weed.  I'm willing to bet Henderson has moved on to something a little stronger.

And geez man, the snarky comments are a real downer on what is supposed to be a fun place to discuss sports.

Ugh... I know no politics no

*Damn it, wrote a long response that doesn't directly refute your point now that I saw that they did get a warrant.  Still... you trust the government, a lot.  Surprising after these past few weeks, I would've thought people would be more skeptical.

The government isn't spending

The government isn't spending $2 billion on the new 1.5 million sq. ft Utah Data Center . for nothing... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Data_Center.

The data center is alleged to be able to process "all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Internet searches, as well as all sorts of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital 'pocket litter'.

What happened to GhostofYost?

What happened to GhostofYost?  It sounds a lot better than... Ferbert (which sounds like some sort of sick sex act).

Boston fans booing.  Typical

Boston fans booing.  Typical poor sports as usual.  Probably one of the bottom 2-3 sports cities in the US in terms of their fans.  Bunch of obnoxious drunks who can barely speak intelligible English with those potatoes in their mouths.

Geez, Rich Rod was really

Geez, Rich Rod was really good at picking those kickers, huh?  I guess they don't count as offensive players?

Gotta trust Hoke and Co.  Until they screw up, I can't question their allocation of scholarships.

All I can say is:
LOL @

All I can say is:

LOL @ Boston.  That has to be one of the worst collapses in sports history.  Not only letting the opponent tie it up, but then letting them score again less than 1/2 a minute later?  It's the hockey version of Buckner.  Good, Boston sports fans are the absolute worst.

I think his new book is

I think his new book is coming out soon. I think it's called "Fourth and Long" or something to that effect, about the issues surrounding college football.  Could be a good read, but I honestly might have trouble reading a 300+ page book if his theory is the same superficial storyline that the media usually follows when discussing college football.  However, I think Bacon is smart enough to get off the beaten path.

Actually, that would be a great question for the board if I can thread jack for a minute.

What topic (Michigan related) would you like to see covered in the next book (by Bacon or anyone for that matter)?

"Three and Out" stressed me

"Three and Out" stressed me out when I was reading it.  It's kind of a heart breaker even though you know the story.

I think Penn State is going

I think Penn State is going to have some trouble recruiting with Rutgers and Maryland in the mix, along with Michigan establishing a pipeline to VA.  Used to be, if kids of the East Coast wanted to play football in the Big Ten, PSU was the obvious choice.  Plus, it's only about 2.5-3 hours from NJ, 2 hours from Maryland, 3 from Virginia... pretty much the perfect distance to go away to college.  Plus, now that Pitt is in a more established conference, they could start to make some waves (yes, I know it is a perenial underachieving oddball).  If they could take a few more Western Pennsylvania recruits than they usually do (they always seem to get a few high 4 star Pittsburgh kids), Penn State could be in trouble.
