This is one of the many reasons I don’t like the playoff. The other bowls no don’t count - as was inevitable.

I can’t say I’ll be watching this game.

I’m not going to wet my pants in sadness until he actually picks another school. Well, I’m not going to wet my pants in sadness because of this recruitment until he actually picks another school.

12/12/2018 - 10:18am Boo.

Boo.

I strongly believe that he will play football somewhere.

My suggestion: expel Penn State, Rutgers, Nebraska, and Maryland from the conference.  Then decide the champion as we did before those teams entered the Big Ten.

12/05/2018 - 1:24pm I absolutely do not want a…

I absolutely do not want a structure that would allow Michigan and Ohio State to play in back-to-back weeks (and, yes, I realize we had this with "Leaders" and "Legends").  It would cheapen the Game.  And, as would have happened this year, it would lead to a season in which one or both of the teams knew going into the Game that they were slotted for a championship game rematch.  Do you rest your players in the Game when you know there is a rematch a week later?  I assume not, but I don't even want that kind of thing on the table.

Good point.  The buyout clause may make what I said largely irrelevant.

12/04/2018 - 11:48am Wow, that's a lot of…

Wow, that's a lot of confidence in the guy if true.  I understand that he's considered a coach with a bright future, but that seems like an unnecessarily long contract.

12/03/2018 - 5:09pm The question of who the…

The question of who the national champion is just doesn't interest me that much if Michigan isn't involved.  Even then, beating OSU and winning the Big Ten is more important.  The national championship is inherently somewhat absurd.

As trite as it may sound, I can't come up with a better description of Coach Beilien's program than to say that his teams are a joy to watch.  It's nice to recruit players who are outstanding from the get-go (future Chris Webbers are welcome).  But it's even more fun to see players blossom year after year.  At this point, I'm wiling to go out on a limb and say that John Beilein is a pretty decent basketball coach and that Michigan should keep him.

You are a trusted friend and agent, WH. As a fellow believer in jinxes, I thank you.

Deep thought: I like the way Michigan blows everyone out.

11/30/2018 - 3:45pm John Beilein does not…

John Beilein does not autograph pieces of paper and sports items.  He autographs your soul, and you are a better person for it.

11/28/2018 - 6:11pm I just don’t buy the…

I just don’t buy the emphasis-as-cause story much. Alabama, who presumably doesn’t focus on OSU at all, will likely beat the Buckeyes if they meet in the playoff. And that will be because they have better players and better coaches.

OSU has been putting more talented teams on the field against Michigan since at least 2008. And, other than 2011, they’ve had the better of the coaching match-up (in a purely amoral, wins and losses sense) every year since 2008. That’s the simplest and most likely explanation for the disparity in the rivalry by far.

11/27/2018 - 5:08pm No

In the season that Desmond Howard won the Heisman, Michigan played at Boston College and then hosted Notre Dame and Florida State. Michigan won the conference that year.

Ohio State won on Saturday because they had better coaches and better players. I love our coaches and players and wouldn’t want to trade, but the explanation for the loss really is this simple. There is no easy way forward.

11/26/2018 - 1:27pm Your very last point is what…

Your very last point is what stands out to me.  Harbaugh & Co. don't seem to do a great job of putting themselves in the other staff's shoes and anticipating what they will do in response to what Michigan generally does.

Another thought: Don Brown no doubt has pants that know more about football than I do.  But even I could see going into the Game that Haskins, OSU's short passing game, and OSU's use of crossing routes was going to fit very well (for the Buckeyes) with what Michigan usually does on defense.  I know you can't simply become a different unit in a week, but I was frustrated to see that Michigan seemed to do on defense exactly what one would have expected from watching them all year.  OSU's offense was the most talented unit Michigan faced all year, and Meyer is a truly great coach.  That wasn't going to work.

11/26/2018 - 1:05pm I appreciate the fact that…

I appreciate the fact that you managed to write this.  I'm just...done.  I don't want to watch the Game anymore.  It now exists in that particularly bad place where unpleasant meets boring.  The frustration is matched only by the predictability.

I'm not done being a Michigan fan, to be sure.  But I plan on skipping the game next year and - to the extent that I can - even entertaining the idea of Michigan beating OSU.  It all just becomes silly at some point.

11/26/2018 - 12:37pm He has always seemed like a…

He has always seemed like a classy young man and a credit to the university. I’ve enjoyed rooting for him. I hope he makes tens of millions of dollars and has a great life.

He should also sit out the bowl. Remember Jake Butt. And a bowl is just a consolation prize when you lose to OSU. Take care of yourself, Mr. Gary!

11/25/2018 - 8:45am Michigan will probably never…

Michigan will probably never beat Urban Meyer. The Game is a farce. The Beatles wrote a lot of annoying songs. Smart phones have probably caused a net loss to our society. The NFL is largely atrocious. We are now a country that celebrates ignorance. And China owns all of our giant pandas.

11/24/2018 - 9:33pm There is no great season…

There is no great season without beating OSU.

11/24/2018 - 6:56pm I’m done watching this game…

I’m done watching this game. I’m not interested in being Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. It’s like watching a Civil War reenactment. It represents a once great contest whose result is now just a formality.

Harbaugh is a very good coach and the best fit for Michigan. But Meyer is a great coach, and Michigan will be lucky to beat him one out of every eight tries.

There is no point in watching further. Seriously, spare yourselves.

Nice win!

I really like the fact that this team doesn’t need any one guy to score a lot in order to succeed.

11/16/2018 - 7:47pm He is familiar with the…

He is familiar with the conference. He coached at Oklahoma State before LSU. I never want him as Michigan’s HC, but football is more fun with him in it.

You take your jinx and you get the hell out of here, Kirk Herbstreit!

Brazdeikis reminds me a little of Jalen Rose - a guy with sort of an old man game who just finds ways to score and who has enormous self-confidence.

I can’t say I expected that. Holy smokes!

11/12/2018 - 10:16pm Oh shit. That sucks.

That is really unfortunate. He was starting to establish himself as the lead player on that team.

I won't believe he's coming to AA until he shows up at my door, makes me a sandwich, and tells me so himself.

Thanks, man. I appreciate having your level headed perspective on the board. I hope your visit to AA wasn’t a total bust.

He built Stanford on three star guys, a few two star guys, and a few four star guys.

Also, I still can't believe Hudson was a three star.  Did no one at the recruiting services watch his clips?

We have every reason to believe in Gary.

He has become a damn good player.  Is he the best Michigan RB since Hart?  I'm not sure who else you'd argue for other than maybe Toussaint or Minor.

10/23/2018 - 10:36am The expectation of many (but…

The expectation of many (but certainly not all) OSU fans is that they should win the national championship every year.  My memory is that you could find people talking about firing Tressel after each one of his rare losses.  I'm not surprised they're reacting this way right now.  OSU is one of those programs that would win every game if only their gosh darn coaches didn't get in the way.

The above having been said, Gene Smith - think what you will of him - is not that dumb.  I can't believe the OSU athletic department is anywhere close to wanting Meyer gone.

10/22/2018 - 8:16pm Jeez, that seems rash.

Jeez, that seems rash.

Beat OSU. Between the two, the playoff finishes ninth.

10/22/2018 - 5:53pm A friendly and happy correct…

A friendly and happy correction: he is 8-4 against Michigan.  Coach Carr's win against him in 2007 is often left out of the conversation.

10/22/2018 - 5:30pm People wanting to push him…

People wanting to push him out need to give up.  He's presiding over the second best stretch in program history.  He's not very old.  He still has a winning record against Michigan.  He's not going anywhere barring some giant scandal or a health issue.

10/22/2018 - 12:09pm Meyer has a cyst in his head…

Meyer has a cyst in his head that (I think) causes recurring headaches.  I’m no fan of his, but he may be suffering for reasons that have nothing to do with his character.

This has no effect on the committee’s rankings - at least not officially. Neither does the AP poll.

This could be very entertaining if it were coming from some other former foreign leader. But this person needs to focus elsewhere. Reading a history of Europe during WWII might be a good choice.
