I followed Nick Baumgartner over when he left mLive last year.I'm sure he was inspired by MGoBlog to raise his game; and he always has. All the yohos responsible for practice-gate are long gone, as far as I can tell. I still only read the sports section. The only place I've learned anything about the endowment bs is from you fine folk, as the Freep has kept their sports section (of the website, at least), endowment-free.

It's A LOT easier to do. Stay off the internet, tell friends not to text you about it, or just don't look at your texts.
I live in KC, so most people who see me in block M gear assume I'm a Mizzou fan.(though I usually don't take chances if there's a game being recorded).
Once had to accompany my wife to a work function of hers, and recorded both the Detroit Tigers' playoff game and a Michigan night game. Watched M first, and set a box in front of the TV, positioned so I couldn't see the crawl with the Tigers' score.
|01/24/2018 - 10:55am||Re: Larry Nasser||
A movie called "The Tale" screened at the last Sundance. It's about a woman facing suppressed memories of sexual abuse when she was 13, and it stars Laura Dern. The audience was described as "shellshocked." And it hasn't found a distributor, likely because almost no one would want to see it. But it couldn't be more timely or, I'm afraid, timeless.
|01/04/2018 - 10:14pm||They will have a great defense.||
They will have a great defense. They were top 10 this year by any measure, with 10-ish starters returning.
A competent QB is possible. An improved receiver corps is inevitable. The O line is questionable, of course. But 10-2 in the regular season is very do-able. (9-3 is more likely.)
|12/30/2017 - 12:53am||PAC-12||
OP noted that the B1G is benefiting by not being in the CoFoPo, and is thus slotted against easier teams. Well, the PAC-12 is not in the playoffs either.

Rage - Zach + B Real + Chuck D + DJ Lord. I'll see them on Labor Day in KC. As a Rage/Cypress fan, have you got your tix?
|07/24/2016 - 9:36pm||Rage||
Rage Against the Machine: Eponymous/Evil Empire/The Battle of Los Angeles. Renegades is great, too. Have tix for Prophets of Rage show on Labor Day in KC. They MUST record new stuff with Chuck D and B Real.
|07/24/2016 - 12:07am||Queen?||
I went through this whole thread and saw no mention of Queen. But A Day at the Races, while almost great, faltered slightly in the line of Sheer Heart Attack/A Night at the Opera/Races/News of The World/Jazz.
Pick any three of Zeppelin II through Presence and the biggest argument would be intra-Zep.
I upvoted everyone I saw who said Pink Floyd, though I think Meddle was just below the stratospheric heights they reached on the next four (including my favorite, Animals).
B-Nut-Go-Blue neailed it with his three Radiohead albums. I have to mention Rubber Soul/Revolver/Sgt. Pepper (although I bet others did). Aerosmith: Get Your Wings/Toys in the Attic/Rocks (their masterpiece). Yes: The Yes Album/Fragile/Close to the Edge (then went off the rails for a bit with the unwieldy Topographic). Arcade Fire: eponymous/Funeral/Neon Bible (skipped the live album with Bowie). Kraftwerk: Trans-Europe Express/The Man-Machine/Computer World/Electric Cafe.
I have to stop. +1 to thread originator.
|07/23/2016 - 11:25pm||Slightly OT...||
This thread made me think of how author John Irving hated Robin Wiliams as T.S. Garp in George Roy Hill's adaptation of The World According to Garp, then changed his mind (not very long afterwards) and said he was quite good.
Ebert changed his mind on several movies he disliked at first, also, including Unforgiven and Blade Runner...
|06/26/2016 - 11:08am||The Word||
Before The Family Band recorded anything, Robert Randolph was "discovered" in a church choir band by the North Mississippi All Stars and John Medeski of Medeski, Martin & Wood. Their first album is pure awesome. I saw RR&TFB; and he is so much fun to listen to and watch. But I'd LOVE to see The Word.

Her self-titled album, released in 2014 (but newer to me).
Also REALLY looking forward to Prophets of Rage, especially if they release new material.

Nor in the Dream Country. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is signed on to produce: it's in active development at New Line.
In a Reddit AMA, J G-L said,
"I think a big screen adaptation is a better idea and here's why. If you did the episodic version, I think it could very well end up as a not-as-good-version of what is already brilliant in the comics. But by reworking the material into a big movie, Gaiman's brilliant characters and ideas get to take shape in a way they never have before.
Also, I think Sandman deserves to look absolutely mind-blowingly awesome, just on a visual level, and as cinematic as some TV shows are becoming these days, they still can't compete with big movies visually, just because they can't afford to."

That was my first UM/UM game, too, as a senior also in the student section, watching Foggie waterbug around on that 31 yard gain at the end. Can't complain much about that year overall, though.
*I'd go to about one game a year for some years after I graduated, and somehow managed to be at Kordell's Hail Mary, Desmond being tackled in the endzone by MSU, and the 22-22 tie with Illinois the year after we socked them 20-0 in Champaign.
|08/24/2013 - 12:51pm||Establishing Tendencies||
The 2nd down struggles remind me of the 2nd half flailings in the Ohio game, in which Borges apparently ran some plays in order to set up other plays which he never got the chance to run because the Buckeys were stymying M. The problems with 2nd down plays in the red zone may be related to attempts to display tendencies that, perhaps, cause defenses to make errors on subsequent downs.
|01/07/2013 - 8:31pm||The Rutgers Terrapins Factor||
It's hard to know what our schedule will look like by the time Rutgers and Maryland arrive in 2014. I expect the home/away year-to-year "swing" will be revised, certainly.
|12/30/2012 - 11:10pm||Outrebounded||

|11/19/2012 - 5:35pm||Re: 70% of giving||
There's a spike in charitable giving overall in Nov and Dec, because people want the tax advantage before year-end. I'm sure DB includes that period in his numbers, even though the causation is likely not mostly due to football.

"This year's MAC is probably tougher than this year's Big Ten," he says in passing.
Really? FEI has six Big Ten teams rated higher than the MAC's highest rated team (NIU). And only Illinois is ranked worse than #92; six MAC teams are lower than that. Purdue is better than half their conference at #92. Average Big Ten rating: 42. Average MAC rating = 82.
I'm not going to look at any other rating systems for further substantiation. The Big Ten is down this year. But it's easily better than the MAC.

|08/27/2012 - 2:25am||I'm skeptical about Will and the D-line||
But I'm crossing my fingers. Campbell might still surprise. He never had to play much until now, with Martin tearing up the middle. And these coaches are as good as it gets. If Michigan wins Saturday, a big reason will be the Interior D-line was competent. And if Campbell plays 80% as sell as MM did last year, he'll be a 1st rounder, because he's a prototypical lineman, body-wise.

|08/10/2012 - 1:39pm||Leverage||
It's great to hear about BWC's leadership and how he's coaching up the freshmen. But I sure hope he's not part of the problem in getting leverage at the line of scrimmage. Man, I really want to hear Hoke or GM say that Will, specifically, is keeping his pad level low.
I'll bet Brandon's ears perked up when he heard Hoke has seen a "marketable (sic) improvement" in Denard.
|07/23/2012 - 6:19pm||Scholarship Limits||
It seems odd to me that the NCAA would reduce the number of schollies in 2013-14 because a student transfers to that school in 2012-13. I can understand holding the overall limit to 85. In fact, the NCAA hasn't yet sorted out how they're going to address this issue.
It seems unfair to Michigan and to those PSU players who would like to transfer to Ann Arbor that there is virtually no room because they're being counted against the 2013 incoming class.
Maybe this was Indiana's master plan all along...
|07/14/2012 - 11:12pm||Re: The Players||
All the players should be allowed to leave the school and enroll elsewhere without sitting out a year. Unfortunately, most schools' rosters/scholarships are full at this point (I'm guessing). So this policy should remain in place after the 2012 season, as well, to give players time to reach such an important decision.

It's interesting (to me) that the most respected sites for rating longsnappers just so happen to be run by the same businesses that train longsnappers. Conflict of interest, anyone?
Methinks there should be an entirely impartial site devoted to longsnapper recruiting rankings, much like ESPN, that can dispassionately rank longnappers based on whether or not they're going to an SEC school.
And this Gabriel Miller is ranked #3 by both websites linked above, while Snappy Snapniewski is # 2 according to rubiolongsnapping.com and #14 according to the other one. (And Rubio's #1 guy, Cole Mazza, who's 'Bama-bound, was not even ranked on the OP's link.) Did Miller attend both organizations' camps equally, while Snappy ("The Snapper") Snapniewski completely ignored Kphl's Kicking?
I submit that ol' Snap is actually the #1 longsnapper in the nation; that's why Hoke offered him before the other schools started scrambling like dominoes. He (Snap) just didn't attend Rubio's camp as often as 'Bama's guy.
As always, follow the longsnapping money.
[Side-note: I just saw that there's a longsnapper named Robert Longwell. Someone needs to snap him up, quick.
|06/16/2012 - 3:50pm||We can still downvote...||
....the Mgouser who starts a thread, I believe.
I think I'll write a diary titled, "RR SUX Compared to Hoke," and, in the body, write, "I've calculated that, statistically, RR sux 11.4 times more than Ellerbee sucked. And Hoke's Michigan Man-o-meter is already equal to Lloyd Carr's, and rising."
Then I'll sit back and see what happens.
|06/12/2012 - 3:14pm||Mike,||
Greinke is going to be a free agent; and you want to trade away Castellanos to rent him for a few months? The Brewers would definitely make that trade straight up. I wouldn't.
|06/12/2012 - 12:26pm||If it happens...||
You have to believe that Ford's family is very much on board with the idea, and believe that he would be, also. It's possible that an impetus for the Legends patches was that this game against Air Force was on the schedule and Ford had served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy (and, for one year, was in Preflight School). You can't retire a jersey twice; so this will (hopefully) be an impressive way to remember and honor the President.
You may be fuming about this. But I am certain that the Ford family considers it to be a fitting tribute to their patriarch. And I'm guessing that Academic All-Big Ten senior Jordan Kovacs will be the individual to wear it proudly.
