That has been the narrative to excuse boy child raping, girl child raping, wife beating etc.... all across the Big Ten. While funny on surface, the Izzo taking bullets meme exists for all the wrong reasons.

"all but one player who gets significant snaps was in the composite Top 250 out of high school"

Would it be okay if Gary has his entire "Donkey Kong Suh year" on Saturday?
|11/20/2018 - 7:19pm||I'm leaning the field goal,…||
I'm leaning the field goal, solely based on the likelihood of OSU fumbling the ball at the one, or being stopped short, and still being awarded a TD by the BiG officiating crew - while it has been done before, harder to job a team on a kick!

For us old folks languishing in BPONE, this isn't good news, we lived through the Earle Bruce moment. Grrrrrrrrr
|11/18/2018 - 5:35pm||Thanks - and this week,…||
Thanks - and this week, especially for including the red zone series.
To my old eyes, it was not play calling or scheme. Patterson missed just a little bit... perhaps his least accurate day as a Wolverine - which would still be the most accurate day we've seen for much of the prior decade. Also think some of those runs are just that little bit different if JBB is in there instead of Stueber having his first start. Think Stueber is going to be a good one.
|11/18/2018 - 4:18pm||Would like to see them keep…||
Would like to see them keep kick off, but work to limit its impact and return frequency. Rule:
Fair catch in field of play - ball at 30.
Kick reaches end zone - ball at 20.
|11/18/2018 - 11:24am||Though I didn't have a name…||
Though I didn't have a name for it, I have been in the BPONE of negative expectations ever since a guy behind me in the stands blurted out "he can't do it again, can he?" as that second, damn, kickoff landed in Rocket Ismail's hands, decades ago.
I reserve the right to cling to my BPONE until Metellus is returning a pick six to put UM up by 21 with about 3 minutes left on Saturday..... oh wait, that is a positive thought, must not have that, must not have that....
|11/18/2018 - 11:11am||Sure, 10 - 1 against UM's…||
Sure, 10 - 1 against UM's slate might impress some, but keep perspective, Kentucky beat Middle TN by 11 and there there are two ACC teams with seven wins. UM will be lucky to stay in the top ten this week!!!

Struggling to understand the numbers. Guess the December signing period will clear a bit of that up.
|11/17/2018 - 8:48pm||Agree, this is really my…||
Agree, this is really my only strong quibble with the offensive decision making. Couple places I'd have rather seen a pass attempt in the red zone but... eh. Maybe didn't block quite as well as they have been in the red zone. Given JBB being out it will be interesting to see the UFR on Stueber.
|11/17/2018 - 9:01am||That is a poor slate for…||
That is a poor slate for November. Would be worth checking on Georgia Tech if they weren't opposite the Michigan game - could it be one of those years that option attack is running crisply enough to give Georgia fits next weekend?
|11/17/2018 - 8:57am||I think the teams that have…||
I think the teams that have a good chance to make an impact on Michigan's prospects are Syracuse and Oklahoma State. I think your supposition that stronger records for MSU/PSU/OSU and Northwestern is somewhat correct - but regardless of their records I don't see the committee bias for the SEC and ACC going away.

well, here's to hoping that if he does, there are still a full five games ahead in a Michigan uniform.

Here's to that being your score prediction for the Big Ten Championship Game!!

After reading both UFRs I don't feel too bad about even the bad things: top running back who has been excellent when needed most had the mental letdown at Rutgers - probably means some rest and an excellent two weeks ahead. Back up safety blows a few plays in a Blue was going to win regardless situation - he'll be better for it in the coming weeks and next year.
|11/14/2018 - 7:31pm||I've come to expect these…||
I've come to expect these sort of halves from young Beilein teams in the early season and I don't get upset by them... I'm not sure how to react when UM is the team on that end of the score...
|11/07/2018 - 5:54pm||To your point on transfers,…||
To your point on transfers, dismissals - fans pointing fingers at other programs is just silly. It is an optics problem for the entire sport. Brian's 25 per year (no addition, no subtraction, no exception), each gets up to the five years thereafter is a perfect solution. It would really clean things up, make life better for everyone.
|11/04/2018 - 2:50pm||Hmmm, given the…||
Hmmm, given the possibilities UM has with some other top targets, I'm a little baffled by the numbers on this class.
|10/27/2018 - 8:37am||If you had told me we'd…||
If you had told me we'd start the season without Black and Solomon and Gary playing hurt and ultimately missing Wisconsin and MSU...then the performance to this point indicates some young guys exceeding expectations. Thankfully!
As to Patterson - to all intents and purposes, given the much more sophisticated offense, he is a first year starter. The things he is missing, throws he is hesitating to make in the red zone, are very typical of a first year starter. Season is at the point where the good ones usually start to break through on just those things... so fingers crossed. I think they are going to need some of those throws over the next four (ideally five) weeks.
Hudson has been quiet but I think he is performing within the system. Have a feeling a big day is needed from him in this next one.
Agree, very strongly, on Metellus. In a world sorely lacking in justice, I look forward to the fourth quarter pick six he is going to get to seal the game in Columbus!

Seems like there are hints of Dwumfour coming on as well - would really be something if they can make up for lack of Hurst with so much depth as to wear down opposing guards.
|09/18/2018 - 8:26pm||This - and the add in the…||
This - and the add in the sidebar guarantees I can meet my dream girl. All on the same day!
I wonder if she'll stick with me after she realizes I'd dump her to get M commits from Harrison, Cine and Ford (or really, even just one of them).
|09/04/2018 - 7:47pm||I, for one, am superstitious…||
I, for one, am superstitious enough to believe that this languishing of the program is completely tied to the 'can't activate that brand' quote. It is holding us back. Change the quote now so JH can activate his brand starting this Saturday. Desperate times call for desperate measures so unless Brian has an all-pro left tackle in his pocket - he must change that quote!!!
|09/02/2018 - 12:10pm||This is good discussion…||
This is good discussion. While the Hawkins misjudge/misplay is a killer, that is just going to happen some.
In the light of morning there are two plays that bother me:
The second and goal from the three that resulted in a sack. The line was getting some push on the interior on that drive - and that play suits their defensive strengths while playing to our weaknesses. If you are going to throw there it has to be a one option fade/slant route. Should of run the damn ball.
The second half defensive call against 3rd and 18. Giving up that first down costs so much momentum and time. Sometimes you have to dial it back, show a little zone, focus on contain. There were five year olds watching their first football game that knew ND was going to run qb draw there.
|01/13/2018 - 7:25pm||Missing Free Throws||
cost them 1 or 2 more games than you project, but if the growth pattern continues they could earn consideration for a 4/5 line and look to be a tough out in the tournament.
|12/03/2016 - 9:40am||I too am bitter about how it||
I too am bitter about how it ended - but sometimes it is just as much about bounces and breaks. Please double check - but for a team that valued the ball (11 to) and generated so much pressure, to be only +6 in turnovers makes me think a couple better bounces completely changes the season. You can't control the errant ducks by the opponents in both losses that always seemed a step away from giving M the needed jolt. I also think, maybe Iowa doesn't happen if they get an earlier road test.

that old poster on a few of the boards, Scout/Rivals maybe, who claimed to stock up and hide in a bomb shelter for the recruiting home stretch each year.
Do you eat crow and call the Swensons?

was very excited to have this guy in the class.
|01/04/2016 - 6:25pm||SEC fans seem to really hate Urban||
I don't know all that Meyer did when at Florida, but he seems to be despised by SEC fans like no other. Before last year's semi - had a diehard Volunteer fan (keep in mind those folks are loyalists with a "never forgive Charles Woodson therefore root for OSU" hate of Michigan): "only thing on earth that has ever made me root for Michigan and Alabama is Urban Meyer".
|01/01/2016 - 7:48pm||The OL play was confirmation||
of an aspect of coaching we expected from this regime - it takes time, and they clearly used bowl practices well.
But I think the backs (Smith especially) did a much better job of hitting the right spot today and that is something many of us have speculated is almost impossible to coach.
Also, not sure how they have done it, but the improvement in catching the ball that Chesson has made over the course of this year is notable. Another thing very difficult to coach up - but in combination with his speed, that he is now catching the ball much more fluidly makes him so dangerous.
|01/01/2016 - 3:24pm||It is the third quarter and||
the color guy is talking like the game is over. That is nuts, need our guys to keep at it.
|01/01/2016 - 2:40pm||Three thoughts at the half:||
1. Confirmation that UM has a staff that can coach the running game.
2. Whatever Chesson has been doing to improve his "hands" from the start of the season, he should patent and bottle.
3. Excellent linebacking and experience at quarterback are, likely, the deficiences we rue next season. If we don't find ourselves wishing for those two things... ...lookout...
|01/01/2016 - 1:57pm||absurd officiating||
|12/17/2015 - 6:54am||Yeah||
I think your probably right on that, Jones has got it rolling in recruiting.
|12/05/2015 - 7:00am||But isn't that the kind of hire||
Maryland should make? If he turns out to be the next great head coach, they'll have him for 7 or 8 years before he heads to an elite program and they will win way beyond expectations. If not, they aren't any worse off.
For that matter, shouldn't Michigan have made that type of hire instead of Brady Hoke, if no top 10 options were available?
|11/29/2015 - 8:02am||Mizzou's first year AD||
was the AD at Houston for the Tom Herman hire.
|11/29/2015 - 7:58am||Durkin||
Contrary to the drunken aftermath from a terrible performance, UM benefits, greatly, from Durkin staying. Rising young coach, already very good. He also seems to be a very good recruiter and any wobble in the current defensive recruiting class is going to have a major impact two years from now. The depth chart is scary after next year without finishing this class in style.
So many coaching openings, however, that it seems plausible we lose him. It would be a set back for him to leave. If he does, I hope we can land Shafer or lure a top DC from elsewhere.
|11/25/2015 - 9:00pm||Lots of players||
and by that, I mean just how many players contribute on this team.
I figured, best case, we would see a team that exceeded expectations by a combination of vastly improved coaching and a thin roster avoiding injuries. Instead, it seems like a ton of guys have been developed to be contributors beyond expectations. Multiple fullbacks, tight ends, receivers, dl and dbs have all proven more capable than expectations. Add that to the two specialist and a number of freshman developing and grabbing some playing time by earning it, not out of necessity, and it is a neat team to watch.
|11/25/2015 - 8:48pm||Would like more years of Durkin, though||
upon his departure, a possible Scott Shafer return to Ann Arbor would be an intriguing storyline.
|11/25/2015 - 3:05pm||I shall feel cheated||
like watching Big Ten refereeing, if; after watching years go by with teams passing on Narduzzi for poor, retread coaching hires, M loses Durkin after year 1.
|11/01/2015 - 6:59pm||may be antiquated thinking but||
doesn't Foster deserve a shot at that job?
|11/01/2015 - 9:16am||I think the upset folks have||
is based off how terrific the defense had played up to this point. Those of us in the 7-5, 8 - 4 with a lucky bounce camp for pre-season predictions had been lifted into a world of feeling, utterly robbed, at not being 6 - 1.
This performance hurt because they played like our worst fears about this season, for much of it. The good to take from it is that this game is a certain loss under the previous regime. This team kept their heads and kept fighting despite mistakes and some really bad bounces.
Questions for the last four:
Which defense do we see? If they recover confidence and rack up sacks UM wins three of the four. If not....
Is the run game set or could they still improve? Grind out 200+ and any game can be won but our backs are...not good.
What do we see from the quarterback? I wouldn't mind getting lucky and having M get two or three (or four) performances above the current mean.
Hard to fathom a loss to Rutgers, but PSU and Indiana look to be difficult for this team. OSU...

|10/31/2015 - 8:41pm||miserable||
|10/31/2015 - 8:29pm||stunningly poor performance||
from the defense. Can't believe it. D-line has been absent...
|10/21/2015 - 8:48pm||If I'm just going back to watch||
I'll take the trip to PSU in '97.
If going back to influence, same day, different location - brief review with the refs at Mizzou about how to call it when a receiver kicks a ball - then out of the stadium and to the nearest place I can watch UM destroy PSU.
Yes, I do care more about other rivals, but there was an exquisite joy to the way that game played out and how, resoundingly, it announced Michigan was the best team in the nation.
