Goalies in general are weird voodoo magic. A freshman in theory could be lights out or they could take awhile to develop into anything from "fine" to a literal brick wall. Hard to tell, but I'd put more faith in an upperclassman starting and being more consistent than a freshman until proven otherwise.
Edit: to answer your question, yeah I guess it's a bit like QB on a football team but with higher stakes if you're wrong because you can't cover up a bad goalie that well like you can a bad system QB.
Made an account to comment. Having driven this for years on gameday it's never that bad. Sometimes can be faster getting into town if you drive through Jackson but the difference really isn't that noticeable. Definitely takes sub 2.5 hours. Will be on the same path as you, I will be waving! Go blue!

The bark on this looks phenomenal too, and it's hard to argue with some good ol fashioned S&P. Trying this next time I throw a butt on for sure.
