From a distance this would seem to be symbolic of the divide you guys are struggling with:

What about RichRod?? What did he do?? Well, in the words of this coach(Top notch program, OK Red conference) He(Rod) blew in, made a 30 minute "profanity laden" speech and didnt even shake a hand on his way out. No networking, no time for any of the Michigan high school coaches at all

vs

He said Coach Rod was there for roughly an hour before the event, mingling and talking with the coaches. Rich even went as far as to apologize that he would be leaving right after his speech due to some prior obligations (I believe he was watching his son in a sporting event

Clearly no one who coaches at this level would be so stupid as to intentionally alienate their prime source of talent. If both posters perceptions are correct this is simply an example of a man trying to balance his work life and family life. (I have missed many hockey games and many business dinners myself)

The problem coach Rodriguez faces is a stunningly hostile percentage of the fan base. Some of this is rational, much of it is irrational. Much of it would be solved by winning, some of it will NEVER go away.

Presuming that Rodriguez is retained he needs to be cognizant of this divide, and act accordingly. As an example in a case like the one above he should close his speech by mentioning he was choosing to leave early to attend his son's sporting event.

Nice Win Good luck against Wiscy...and Purdue for that matter.
I was at this game I agree with loosekanen...he's not high enough in the air. That was one of the most athletic, and demoralizing things I've ever seen in person. Good luck against UCONN today.
Study the variability... Hat's point about returning eight starters is right on! It would be interesting to look at the performance of this unit in different games and bounce those numbers against some admittedly subjective rating of how the game would stack up from an "emotional psych up" perspective. As a Spartan I'm familiar with this phenomenon, (albeit seemingly less so under Dantonio). Hat's point related to "bragging about your occupation" might be relevant if "Forgive me for I am an engineer" could be remotely construed as bragging...
Ok...even I thought this was funny! The "are they going to watch 300 again?" line is outstanding! I’d take offence at the “beer swilling harlots” line…but having enjoyed my fair share during college it would seem hypocritical. I went to MSU 20 years ago though...is there still that high correlation between SAT scores and coed gross body weight?
AMEN!!! College football fans everywhere should read this. I'm not a big fan of Bill Maher, but how about this? "New rule, if you could do it better you're entitled to comment." No doubt there will be people who think "Even I could have thrown that pass"...to them I say try it in front of 100K screaming fans, on a real field, behind a wall of 6'6" offensive linemen, with real big ten linebackers looking to tear your head off, into one of 10 different pass coverage schemes you've seen that day. If you really think you could do it better, wipe the chip dip off your shirt, get up off the couch, jog down to the stadium and walk on.
