|06/22/2018 - 10:45am||I think a better way to look…||
I think a better way to look at this is average player rating. 2018 for instance we had a 3 star player that was 0.8391 in his player rating. We also had a 3 star player who was 0.8891. One of these players wasn't ranked in the top 1000 and one was in the top 400. All three stars are not alike. The high three star player was also only a few spots away from a fourth star.
So if you look over the last five years in average player rating, Clemson has an average of 0.9070 while Michigan has an average of 0.8961. Clemson shut out Ohio State with these players. I think looking at stars only doesn't give you the complete picture of talent. The range of only looking at stars is too great to make a concise analysis of talent.
|06/21/2018 - 10:18am||If you look back over the…||
If you look back over the last five years of recruiting and take the average player ranking from 24/7, Michigan is recruiting very closely with Clemson. The average for Michigan is 0.8960 and the average for Clemson is 0.9076. I seem to remember Clemson held Ohio State scoreless a couple years ago in the playoffs.
I think by looking at the average player rating gives a better picture that an arbitrary cutoff of stars. We hear people say low four star, average three star, etc. With that said, I'd like to see us at an average of 0.9200 or so. That is the level Alabama and Ohio State are at.

Beating a dead horse??
I would strongly disagree with this. This isn't a dead horse because this just happened. Just think about the message his statement sends from his recently released email.
The first victim to come forward is probably getting kickbacks from other attorneys by manipulating other victims.
Maybe you didn't read that part? Maybe you did. If you didn't read anything about this then you are being willfully ignorant. If you did read about it then I find your comment disgusting. Engler's statement is exactly what causes the culture of abuse that occurred there to over 300 women.

Did you send me this message from MGoBlog 4.0? I'm just curious if you like spending time in our dimension here.
|06/15/2018 - 1:15pm||If he truly is digging in…||
If he truly is digging in while simultaneously praising himself, then I really am astonished. There were "reasons" Engler was chosen, most of which had to do with keeping the status quo in tact. There was an article in the Lansing State Journal on June 14th. In the article they talked extensively about how he came to be selected as interim president.
"I am appalled that the Board would consider John Engler as a temporary leader for our university. I hope that you will choose someone more suited to lead us compassionately through these challenging times," an email to trustees from an alumnus whose name MSU redacted before releasing the records.
Peter Secchia, a prominent MSU donor and former ambassador to Italy, mentioned his recommendation for interim president in an email to Head Football Coach Mark Dantonio, which Secchia also copied to Beekman.
"What about John Engler as Interim President," Secchia wrote. "He's certainly strong enough."
I guess I shouldn't be shocked that the reason he was hired was pretty much because he's "strong enough." They weren't looking for a path to fixing their problems, they were looking for an asshole large enough to keep them in place.
|06/15/2018 - 8:34am||I saw that as well, where…||
I saw that as well, where Brian talked about the last version being 3.0. But this version is 3.0? Is this just an interdimensional illusion? Do you think that MGoBlog 4.0 can see us now or are we really MGoBlog 4.0 people?

I'm not sure that qualifies as an unpopular opinion.

I don't understand why you are really concerned over the viper spot. The viper spot is filled by someone 6'-0" to 6'-2" tall and around 205 lbs. I can think of quite a few human beings who seem to fit that mold in the 2018 class. We should be fine.
|06/06/2018 - 11:08pm||I think the context is…||
I think the context is pretty clear. You contributed nothing to the new website but are perfectly capable of bitching about it. I think most people can stand criticism, the folks who run this site have offered an open channel to improvements, but what you are doing is just bitching.

This is what I’ve seen as well. Viewing on Safari and Chrome.
|06/06/2018 - 8:52pm||You’re just a bundle of joy…||
You’re just a bundle of joy. I think a lot of the issues are that some folks aren’t as tech savvy as they think they are. I’ve read quite a few folks don’t even know how to clear their cache. Some folks are still seeing the geocities fake page as a result. But go on, just blame the people who did all the work on the improvements for your own incompetence. Seems par for the course in this day and age.

|03/30/2018 - 2:58pm||Agree EGD||
Some of his comments about college athletics are common talking points on this blog. I find from reading the article, he’d agree with much of what people argue here. I think the spirit of his article is to remind people that with a student athlete, the student should come first. We know that isn’t always the case. Since his article was about the joy and exuberance that Loyola basketball has brought to the students, he didn’t go into a ton of detail about who “big time college programs” are. That wasn’t the point of his article, just a point of student athlete advocacy he felt he could make. Again, we make the same exact points here.

MSU has to love drawing Duke in their region. Izzo and his shiny 1-11 record versus Duke has to give them warm fuzzies.
North Carolina looks poised for a National Title run. Would love to play spoiler. I have no idea who I’d pick for the Final Four and may only do a bracket based on my rooting interests. I know this is bad, but when I’ve done one like that before it makes watching the games more fun because I can cheer for who I want.

When Glen died, and they split the primary group up into completely different settlements, that is when it started becoming really muddy to wade through. I’ve watched it all and this season has really started to make me think - “Should I just stop recording each episode?”
At points I’ve wondered why they don’t just cut their losses and drive off to a location away from the Savior domain. This would leave Negan in place for a possible later date and would put the core group back in place. I think the Negan/Savior thing has run its course and it’s time to just move on. Either kill him or get away from him. Just too many subplots going on right now to keep it interesting.
|03/05/2018 - 2:17pm||I think the key point to this||
I think the key point to this team, and ties in with your post, is that Michigan has so much depth. Even in the terrible Iowa game officiated so poorly, Michigan found a way to win with their three best players on the bench for half the game. In years past, this would have almost certainly spelled death. Each piece of Michigan’s roster brings a unique skill set to the court, and Beilein has figured out how and when to use them. They are an incredibly fun team to watch.
|03/04/2018 - 6:55pm||Very impressive game. They||
Very impressive game. They are having so much fun and it is enjoyable to watch. The announcers were fawning all over the defensive performance of Michigan. These four tournament games are ones to remember!
|03/03/2018 - 11:55pm||I’d guess a five seed based||
I’d guess a five seed based on today. If we wound up a four seed it doesn’t really change our bracket that much. As a five we’d play the four in the round of 32. As a four we’d play the five in the round of 32. I doubt we get to a three seed which is the only thing that would shift our bracket enough to be interesting. I really doubt we end up a six seed which would have the same effect as being a three seed. At this point, I’m just enjoying watching them play.

Get MAAR and Wagner back for the second half. Unless Iowa can keep shooting 55% from two and three, we should be fine. Less Matthews and more MAAR, Wagner, and Robinson please. Start hitting threes please.

It has not been purged from the national media -
This was posted about 7:00 PM EST. This will not go away as quietly as certain folks at MSU would hope. Engler threw coals on the fire by calling out ESPN specifically. While true the local media will likely bury this - MSU just picked a fight with a company that doesn't have a whole lot on their plate right now as far as broadcasting. Good luck with that.

The suites also have carved prime rib or carved turkey sandwiches. They run about $11. There’s also a weekly special depending on opponent. When they played Colorado for instance, they served bison burgers. Wisconsin was a brat burger with sauerkraut and cheese.

I do care though. I wouldn’t click on the thread if I didn’t. It’s just the moody narrative that gets old. There are some really great players that we signed to this class and nutpunch as a descriptor is pretty shitty.
We were 19th in national rankings, brought in the top rated quarterback from 2016 as a transfer, and filled some positions with some electric players. 2019 recruiting is off to a phenomenal start. There’s no need for sorrow right now.

Joe Milton will win two National Championships, the Heisman twice, 8 Super Bowls, 14 NFL MVP awards, and will be the first player to enter the Hall of Fame while also still actively playing.
Am I doing this right?
|02/07/2018 - 6:51pm||My god, read the front page||
My god, read the front page post about recruiting. This was not a great haul overall, but in the context of situational pieces I think we will have a few pleasant surprises. When you take 60 players over a two year span, it tends to make you less attractive to recruits. We’ll be fine. The world has not ended.

Honestly, Ohio State’s assistant coaching staff is easy to poach. Schiano was the highest paid assistant coach at $700k. Kevin Wilson was next at $650k. Hell, Larry Johnson is only making $475k.
|01/31/2018 - 3:30pm||Great post. At the heart of||
Great post. At the heart of all this and what needs to be brought to light, is that hiding behind institutional walls and insulating people from real justice, keeps victims in the dark and scared. This has been occurring across the country and is not just limited to East Lansing. Bringing hard facts about simple information requests is certainly a good start to peeling back the layers of an onion, an onion that seems to protect itself from outside intervention by the same methods that allowed it to become an unregulated onion.
|01/31/2018 - 3:29am||A home loss to Minnesota||
A home loss to Minnesota would have a worse effect than our win over Alabama A&M. Just win the remaining games we’re supposed to and we’re fine.

What you just stated is much closer to the truth. I think there have been some good posts in this thread that help me understand the other portions figured in. Hopefully others can benefit from the information as well. I know you follow seeding pretty close, so your input is always appreciated.
|01/31/2018 - 2:44am||I didn't neg you but what||
I didn't neg you but what you're saying simply isn't true. RPI, ESPN BPI, Kenpom, and Sagarin ratings are all used in comparison to the resume. While it is true that RPI is not the sole determining factor, it is used in part of their formula. It also gives you an in season barometer for where your team stands. It seems to work in regards to what has been posted per computer projections so far. It just makes for interesting banter with 7 games left to play.
|01/31/2018 - 12:59am||Other than Ohio State at||
Other than Ohio State at home, there really aren't any more resume building wins left. I would also guess that because the presumptive calculations are that tight, we are who we are. Everyone else is pretty much the same. This far into the season I would guess the computers have more than enough data to cause so little variation. It was interesting to mess around with though.
|01/31/2018 - 12:53am||I would agree. Many of the||
I would agree. Many of the scenarios I ran for two losses had Michigan around the 28-32 range depending on opponent. Most of what I ran didn't look bad for one of the losses being at Maryland - since the computers have us as a 1.5 point underdog. FWIW - Michigan is favored in all remaining games except for that one. It would sure be nice to only drop one remaining game though. That would most definately put us in the 6 seed range.
